    New to L5R card game here (been playing the RPG for years). I wanted to say thank you guys not just for the content of these videos, which is excellent, but also for the high production values you guys show. It's easy to throw something mediocre up on the internet, but you guys put work and polish into these videos, and it's hugely evident.

    One of the best pieces of deck building advice I've received is this. Continue to draw opening hands from your deck until you've burned through all the cards. For each hand you draw judge if it's worth keeping or mulligan it, placing each hand into it prospective pile and drawing again. If you have more mulligans then kept hands your deck needs tweaking. Since the mulligan rules in L5R let you draw individual cards instead of entire hands you could tweak this method by marking the cards you mulligan, maybe with a piece of paper in the card sleeve. If the marked cards are continually being passed over consider why that is and possibly replace them. I think this would work well for both the dynasty and conflict decks.

    This is an amazing video series. You guys are getting me back into excitement for this game! the community definitely comes off as super intense and competitive, but you're definitely showing a more low-key, casual, friendly way to approach the game, and that's pretty much all I'm interested in.

    Great update to the learning L5R series! :D I'm definitely going to do the slip of paper comparison trick! Previously I just marked what I wasn't using, but then still had issues trying to put something new into its place. A lot of this information is great, even if you don't play L5R. I'd love to see these sorts of videos for other games you cover, or how to get into a game that's long standing instead of brand new, like you mention at the end!

    Great stuff, cracking to have a deeper look at deck building.
    I'm really hoping you guys will do more videos regarding L5R. Be great to see a follow up to the Clan previews in a more Clan review format. Given how massive your choice of Clan can be, to see you guys really explore a given Clan would be great. Also the learning videos are so valuable, given how you guys have made mention of needing "10 games" to get a grip of the flow of this game.
    Also (spoilers for learning games) would be great to see if Steven could manage to get his revenge.... 🤓

    Thanks for this video, guys. I found it very helpful!
    I played a friendly 3 round tournament at my local game store last night. I played Lion and tried your splashing Crane idea. I still find it hard to keep track of all the moving parts and as a result often miss card triggers. For example, one of my two Scorpion opponents used the Water ring to bow one of my characters after he won a conflict, and I didn't realize until it was too late that I had Ready for Battle in hand! Argh.
    But, during my first conflict declaration in turn 1 of a game against Dragon, I did a convincing imitation of a player who knew what she was doing: I had the Honored General in play and 2 copies of Voice of Honor in hand. I was able to negate both Let Go and Miramoto's Fury and ended up breaking the province. Yay!
    However, my true colors as a novice player came through during the rest of the game and my opponent ended up winning the game handily. I am well on my way to losing the requisite 10 games of L5R! :D
    Also, I just watched the final match of L5R Worlds 2017 (Samuel Benies Lion vs John Urbanek Crane) and thought their decks were quite interesting. The Lion player had lots of events and attachments in his conflict deck but zero characters, and the Crane player had lots of characters and events in his conflict deck, but only 5 attachments. I guess that's one way to defend against the almost ubiquitous "Let Go" from Dragon -- limit the usefulness of the card by playing very few attachments.

      Amazing how many different approaches there are to these kinds of games. A true puzzle! So glad to hear this, Clare. Keep us updated!

    Just finished the list and whereas they were all good I wanted to say especially thanks for the deck-building videos. Play skills can transfer from other games but deck building skills not so easily and you gave strong, practical advice here, so brilliant, thanks again.

    Played my first game with Crane against Lion. It took us 4 hours, each breaking only two provinces XD But the game is awesome, and watching your videos helped out a lot when running through the first turns. I’m officially hooked to your stuff, so keep up the great job ^_^ Cheers from Spain!

    I think I have said this in every video I have watched, but the art in this game is just gorgeous. I don't know if I'll find players to play against where I live, but I consider getting a core set just so I can have the cards in my hand and admire the art for hours. It is sad and annoying that FFG has not released high res images of each art piece (unless I missed it). Thankfully I have you and your awesome videos showing them, so I can take a quick screenshot.

    Steward of Law prevents someone going from neutral to dishonored. It does not stop going from Honored to Neutral. Important to remember when using pride cards.

    Do you guys still play this game or have you stopped? I really enjoyed your three matches. And since new dynasty cycle is currently coming out, I was wondering if there is a chance for more of L5R on your channel? Cheers :)

      We haven't played much lately, mainly due to KeyForge and Marvel Champions. We will definitely keep an eye on the next cycle though! Cheers!

    What’s the rulings on covert? Could I do that in the middle of conflict to make an existing blocker unable to block?

    • @teamcovenant
      @teamcovenant  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It removes the ability for that character to be declared as a defender - so if they are ALREADY a defender, covert will not do anything. It has to happen before defenders are declared.

    Can you add fate to characters being brought out using cards like Charge or Cavalry Reserves?

    • @teamcovenant
      @teamcovenant  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can add Fate whenever you "play" cards. However, you cannot add Fate whenever you you "put cards into play". So no additional fate from Charge or Cavalry Reserves!

    Lion vs Unicorn, please..! :)
    I have a question:
    Each Shugenja character, has an "element" key word, however, their effects don't seem to be related to the ring of the given elements.
    What is the purpose of the element there? Does it have an effect on its own?

    • @teamcovenant
      @teamcovenant  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing on its own, but it will undoubtedly be referenced in the future!

    • @nuadai
      @nuadai 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Team Covenant, it would've been nice, if there was some rule like "If there is a shugenja character in the conflict under your control , and the ring is the same as the element of the shugenja, resolve the effect of the ring twice, if you win the conflict" :)

    • @teamcovenant

      Killer!

  • @david6975
    @david6975 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For a card like Captive Audience, if you have already done a military challenge, can you then initiate a political challenge when it comes back around to you and then switch that political challenge back to a military, even tho you've already done a military challenge?

    • @teamcovenant
      @teamcovenant  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you can switch it! The game only checks for "declaring" one of each type of conflict. What happens after that is irrelevant!

    • @david6975

    I still want to see them play a game and not do the "optimized" or "best" thing, but the fun "all out" thing. How crazy can a conflict get?

    • @teamcovenant
      @teamcovenant  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You may have gotten that already! Our learning games were pretty far from optimized! But to your point, conflicts can get ridiculous.
