    Hi, I just did Lofoten this August and I did Bodø to Vaeroy, and then Vaeroy to Moskenes and I still got charged for both legs when I checked the tolls for my rental vehicle. Vaeroy is totally worth the trip and hike up Håen though!

    Heisann. Vi bor i Sørfold, ca 135 km nord for Bodø, og ønsker å besøke Lofoten i sommer. Denne videoen var veldig nyttig når det gjelder fergeforbindelsen Bodø - Moskenes. Litt morsomt at den automatiske tekstingen oversatte Bodø til "Buddha" de fleste ganger, da. :)
    Uansett, tusen takk for en nyttig video, jeg satte stor pris på denne :)

    This information is wonderful, thank you for posting. We loved your recommendation to book a car at Rent a Car Moskenes. We are from the US and have called and spoken to Carl, asking how to book a car. He said to send an SMS with the details, we've done this via text to his phone and to their fb page and no response. I called again this morning, and he told me the same thing, so now I'm wondering if we need to request the car in Norwegian not English? Have you any recommendations or other information? Many thanks, Leslie & Laura

    We want to travel from Bodo to Moskenes on Jun 13, and directly from the ferry port take the bus to Reine. The rest of our journey will rely on public transportation ...
    While Travel Pass Nordland is activated immediately at the day of purchase.. then should we still pre-book passenger seats with the express boat? the booking site requires a reservation fee.. is that then covered by the Pass though?

    • @guidetonorway
      @guidetonorway  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi HsinLan! Thank you for your feedback. It seems like you are mixing the speed boat between Bodø and Svolvær and the ferry between Bodø and Moskenes. You want to take the ferry as a pedestrian and then you don’t need to pre book. Save yourself the money. Also, activate the travel pass before leaving the Wi-Fi of the ferry in Moskenes, if you don’t have mobile data, to maximise the ticket. So, absolutely no reason to pre book the ferry as a pedestrian. Hope this helps

      Thank you for watching. Not easy at all. I would highly encourage you to either rent a car with Rentacar Moskenes, or book accommodation in the nearby village of Sørvågen. Or, book the first night at Moskenes Camping in one of their accommodations and take the bus to your Å the following morning. Check Entur.no for bus schedules. You can of course walk to Å from Moskenes. But bring reflective vests (outside of the summer) since you will be walking about an hour on a narrow road without any pedestrian field. If you can’t make it work then you can of course contact us and we can try to sort you out if we have time.

    Very I formative video! In terms of renting a car, if I flew in from Bodo is it better to rent a car in Bodo or as you highlighted Moskenes? Obviously there’s a fee to bring a car on the ferry so that is saved if a vehicle is rented once we cross. But is that the only advantage? I’ll be there in June and need to reserve a rental car. Trying to assess whether to rent in Bodo or Moskenes, thanks!

    • @guidetonorway
      @guidetonorway  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Fran. Thanks for watching. Yes that’s the main advantage. Of course, being able to deliver your car in Moskenes, allows you to have the flexibility to deliver your car before the last day or two while hiking in Sørvågen, and it also allows you to fly out from Evenes, or even Tromsø without having to go back to Bodø. Also, as we mention in our video, we offer a discount code for you for Moskenes car rental in our Camping Map of Lofoten. Good luck planning your trip and feel free to subscribe for more information about Lofoten. Thank you

    I read on the rental t&c about cross-border/boundary rules whereby i may need to inform the car company about bringing my rental car on ferry/boats. Does it effect my insurance for the? Do i have to pay extra to the rental company or something? 😅

    Hello, thank you for you video., very helpful. I read somewhere that as a pedestrian, we are not guaranteed to have a place on the ferry if we don't book in advance. Is that right? Also, I don't want to rent a car while at Lofoten, is it possible and safe to walk from Moskenes to Reine? (I will have a backpack, not a suitcase). 4.9 km is not a big deal for me as long as there is a place for pedestrians to walk on.
    Oh, after re-watching, you specify there is not path for pedestrians. However, on google streets, there seems to be a path on the other side of road guards along the way, seems to be good enough.

    • @guidetonorway
      @guidetonorway  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes if you do not pre-book your ticket you are not guaranteed to have a spot. However, it was only once or twice during Covid, with a 50% capacity, that pedestrians were rejected. Now, during normal capacity, you do not have to worry about being declined a seat on the ferry, even in the most busy times.
      We mention that there are no sidewalks between Moskenes and Reine just so people don’t try to pull their trolleys with them along this path. The narrow walking space next to the road is not for trolleys. However, if you have a backpack you will be fine, and safe. You have to cross the road twice though, so be careful if you do this in darkness.

    • @guidetonorway
      @guidetonorway  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. Since pedestrians became free you now only pay for the vehicle. It might be a bit confusing since when you pre book your ticket online you can choose passengers and you then pay a pre booking fee for those people. But you do not need to pre book anybody. Just your vehicle. In theory you could imagine they could throw out your passengers and only let you, the driver, and the vehicle enter the ferry in case of a very full ferry. But that never happens.
      For more information on the ferry: guidetolofoten.com/ferry-bodo-moskenes/
      You can see puffins in the island of Røst until mid august. Or not directly on the island. You have to book a tour since they are out on some uninhabited islands. We just wrote an article on Røst that you are welcome to read: guidetolofoten.com/rost-island-a-journey-to-lofotens-edge/

      Hi! Those are different ferries/speed boats. The ferry goes between Bodø and Moskenes, sometimes via Røst and Værøy. The speedboat goes between Bodø and Svolvær. You were obviously aware of the existence of Hurtigruten, but only mentioned in the context of that the ferry and Hurtigruten were at the same terminal in Bodø.
    You failed to mention that Hurtigruten can take both people and a limited number of private cars to Stamsund and to Svolvær ....and that from any port (south or north of Lofoten) which is served by Hurtigruten. It is certainly not for free .....

      @@guidetonorway Your reaction stands out as weird so I don't know what kind of problem you have with reality and pure factual information..... I'm not overly impressed. It has certainly little with "guiding" to do what you present. Do you have some kind of issue with Hurtigruten......or what....??? Saying that Hurtigruten "doesn't add anything" is just ridiculous and straight out ignorant.... Try to take Lofoten (Stamsund and Svolvær) out of their sailing plan .....haha ....I think there will be some "noise" coming out of Lofoten.... You will for sure have some explaining to do .....
      Anyone can just google Hurtigruten and see for themselves that Hurigruten take both passengers and private cars (up to 45 cars) to any of the 34 ports along the coast, including Stamsund and Svolvær. Hurtigruten is the means of transport (way bigger and more comfortable ships) that can bring you from A to B even in bad weather ....when other ships/ferries must cancel their service and stay in port.... Hurtigruten has done their service along the coast for 130 years.....
      I say these things to inform anyone else than you .....since you obvious prefer to design reality as it suits you..... Let's see how long time it takes before you delete this comment....
