I wished more people talked about how awesome the art Jae Lee made for this game is. From child to adult. All the art he did for each character is perfection
What I really like about this game is that it's a snapshot of what the Marvel universe was like during that time (early to mid 2000s). Spider-Man was killing it with his movies, Daredevil, Elektra and the Fantastic Four were making their cinematic debuts, and you had to throw in a few X-Men for good measure, especially considering how popular their movies were. Anyways, I loved this game as a kid, we always used to throw Spidey vs. Venom matches with my brother. It showed me a darker side of the Marvel canon that I appreciate a lot today
The art style of this game really scream early to mid 2000s vibes, it has that gritty and visceral atmosphere that is unique only to that era, you won’t see a Marvel comic, game nor movie that feels like this in nowadays.
the imperfects need to return. you can put them in a marvel like injustice game as the main villains, maybe a new marvel ultimate alliance. these guys have alot of potential
Holy shit people actually remembered this? My favorite saying was Spider-Man when he won “You just got a web-slinging ass kicking” 11 year old me thought that was the coolest line to me
The edgy version of the character select screen was so cool to me that I still remember the feeling of how badass they seemed to me years later. Also I'm pretty sure I saw every finisher move multiple times as a kid cause I'm getting flashbacks when you show them
This game is the shit back then! I enjoyed playing the hell out of this game. I haven't played this game in a long time. Ever since my friend introduced me to emulation like I think around three years ago, I finally get to play this game once again and I am so happy about it. I've uploaded a lot content about this game on my channel. If you have a chance or whenever, you should check it out and see it for yourself.
I was obsessed with this game on the PSP when I was 12. Honestly made such a profound impact on my understanding of good/evil and the complexities of humane “superheroes”.
I cannot tell how much I absolutely loved this game in my childhood. Specially the concept arts from each character. Looked so cool and dark. And the music omg
Not a lot of people talk about it but the art and designs for the characters was something I have yet to see replicated in a marvel game since. The shading and the alternate posing when selecting a character was awesome as hell i’m honestly a huge fan of magnetos look in this game just so clean and the same goes for wolverine and the thing, like thing rocking jeans is such a cool look as simple as it is. as much as i like hugh jackman it’s refreshing seeing a wolverine that doesn’t copy and paste his look honestly reminds me of the ultimate marvel comics wolverine.
After all this time I just found out that Dr. Doom and Captain America were playable characters in the PSP version lol, this is childhood nostalgia right here!
I loved this game back then, me and my best friend loved to play this one to bits. Even the very forgotten and underrated X-Men Legend games on the Gamecub which we put so many hours in and we enjoyed every single second. He always picked Wolverine and I went with Magneto. Marvel Nemesis was unique and we are missing games with this kind of concept... gotta say that I also REALLY enjoyed Marvel: Midnight Suns alot. Those games always kinda under the radar because they are different. Marvel Nemesis had cool designs, great art, gameplay was solid and the characters you could pick were also neat. Can't believe that this game is gonna be 20 years old in 2 years or so. 20 years... man... I will turn 32 this year too, crazy.
X-men legends 1 and 2 aren’t talked about enough imo. But I loved this game as well and happy to hear someone enjoying it on gc when p2 dominated that era
I remember my first time playing this game, it was on a Xbox demo disc. You were only able to play as Spider-Man and Johnny Ohm. Of course I picked Spider-Man, but talk about my little teenage mind was blown when I heard Spider-Man say, “That’s what I call a Spider-Man web *ASS* kicking” 🤯🤯
I missed out on this gem, but I’m really impressed with how everything holds up till this day. They could easily put new graphics on and everything else wouldn’t seem so dated. The physics and stuff from the environment to the characters clothes are good too for the time
If you were an Wolverine fan back then, the psp was the place to go man.x men legends, marvel ultimate alliance 1 and 2,x men origins wolverine, marvel nemesis. Cant wait to see him in the ps5 game !
This game came at a time where Marvel was free from the Disney shit. New and unique things could exist and didn't to have tie into the movies. I love this darker aesthetic and I miss mid to late 2000s Marvel!
Marvel nemisis, imperfects is a comic from 2005, five years prior to this game. Dark aesthetic in marvel has always been a thing it depends what media you decided to indulge yourself in
Playing this on my Uncle's PS2, among other games, was one of the few good memories I've had with him. Good enough to make this an instant purchase when I discovered that it came on Gameboy and GameCube as well. And while I never learned how to do the finishers, I can quote all of Venom's lines to this day.
Hmm. Almost forgot of the imperfects, hmm, may have to consider them for my bull spider project, these guy’s had a heavy moment, even if the idea is simple with the powers, each of them with how they have them shows how heavy it can get.
I'm happy Ii'm not the only one who was creeped out by this great game as a kid. Only thing that marvel has done to creep me out since was Marvel Zombies.
I love this game. Way too many fond memories playing with my bro and cousins on weekends. I loved the dark and gritty tone, the character art (like in the select menu), and even the Imperfects origin trailers. Mechanics and graphics are pretty whack but dang do I wish they make a reboot or remake of this game someday. So much potential, and at least it'd be pretty unique compared to another MvC game.
This was my first introduction to how marvel characters being dark. It even had heroes do fatalities like Iron Man disintergrating your opponent with his unibeam and Wolverine repeatedly stabbing with his claws.
I really loved that game as a child, and it's mehcanics, sounds and visual style really got stuck in my brain for years. For some reason i think i never played the story mode, or at least don't remember. Probably i just didn't pay attention to it, but i clearly remember playing the fight mode.
I still own this game on XBOX. I remember preordering this game. I play it on occasion. The characters I usually play as: Marvel Characters: Spider-Man, Venom or Iron Man. Imperfects: The Wink, Hazmat or Paragon
I’m not surprised to hear that it marvel nemesis didn’t do well due to EA being EA, but I would love to see this style of game come back again but more polished with a different publisher. The grittiness and darker theme of marvel nemesis just made it so different from anything you’d seen at the time and since I believe marvel zombies might be debuting for the MCU, this darker but unique game would make sense to bring back. (Edit: the vanquishes of each character even speak to how much more serious this game was. No flashy upbeat happy like super moves, but straight up decimate your opponent almost cold heartedly. Just seeing someone as a jokester like spider man do his vanquish shows how much serious this game was, and let’s not forget wolverine literally shredding you to pieces)
I used to play this with my dad and sister we always had fun just fighting each other and taking turns in campaign for more unlockables. Wink was always my favorite character to use.
I think this is the first ever video i've encountered in TH-cam about someone acknowledging this one-of-a-kind, hidden gem of a Marvel game. Marvel Nemesis was one of the games that introduced me to superheroes, along with the first Lego Batman game. It had such a dark and unique concept, presenting us this unsettling universe filled with brand new anti-heroic characters called The Imperfects, and the rest of the beloved Marvel heroes we know. One of the things i dearly remember from this game is the artstyle for the characters. Seeing all these superheroes and antagonists contrasted in darkness and shadows, along with different poses and facial expressions, made them look so menacing and bad-ass to me. Another thing i love about this game is the original score music. It may sound basic and non-complex for today's standards of videogame soundtracks, but back then, it just felt like something else. That feeling of starting up the game, seeing the classic EA intro popping up along with the iconic Marvel intro, and then see those black bars opening the "Press Start" screen with Paragon and the Marvel Nemesis logo on the middle, to later open up with the main theme of the game, was quite an experience for me as a kid. To this day, i haven't seen anything similar to that. Then we come to the gameplay: i really loved the open fighting field movement, and all the interactivity that the surrounding objects on every stage allowed. Every stage had it's unique things, and all of them matched those dark vibes of the game in general. Now, the camera may be a big flaw on all this, but i've honestly always seen it as something different from many other games. The characters played really well, all with their unique sets of movements. Plus with the Rage power-up and those finishers, it was an awesome fighting experience, whether you played on your own, or, even better, with a second player. I still have memories of me playing this game with my brother and my cousin tons of times. I think my favourite character has always been Venom. I found him so hilarious to me, specially because of him sticking out his tongue all the time, and because of that i used to call him "Lenguarat", which i guess it would be a fake word made up from 'lengua', meaning 'tongue' in spanish. And speaking of characters, i think the voice acting in this game is pretty solid, even if some of the characters had some corny and cliché lines on the way. But the point is, every character had a unique voice, and all of them sound perfect to me; so much that i even memorized the intros and outros dialogues for each one of them. And another fact, this is also one of the games that made me interested in the english language when i was a kid, aside from watching films and listening to music on that language. But anyways, i really love to see another big fan of this game around here, and sharing your work to the world, letting them know and learn about, like you said, "the most unique Marvel game ever made". Have a good one!
I had this on gamecube growing up, I remember finding a way to unlock all the characters by doing multiplayer fighter over and over. Hazmat and The Wink were my mains and I remember stomping everyone except my cousin.
This video made me happy. Rise of the Imperfects was one of the first ps2 games I'd ever played. I was surprised when I discovered that when winning certain amount of 1v1 fights (against the CPU) you would unlock new characters and maps. Also Venom was my favorite, I was unbeatable. Good old days :)
God. The way you described that feeling of enjoying a game a lot as a kid and hating it as an adult is the same feeling I got play TMNT Smash Up this year after playing it for the first time a decade and a half ago.
Man I LOVED this game when it came out. Beat the game with everyone, got all the unlocks and had all the hope that they would make another one. Glad I was at the only one
I'm always so happy to see others appreciate this forgotten gem of a game too! This was a big part of my childhood for sure. Was never able to fully beat the story mode, and got held up at the Paragon levels but man it was so much fun to unleash in multiplayer
I remember breezing past this game so much…until those flying drones showed up, it was fucking ridiculous to how bad the lock on system was at the time for those things.
Man, I loved this game so much when I was a kid! I remember coming home one day and my dad had just bought it was playing it and watching the Wolverine vs Spider-Man match (or whatever it was) I thought it was actually a new live-action movie that he was watching. Looking at the graphics now, I don't know how I thought that, but my standards were lower back then I guess for visual quality, lol. I never got around to playing the story though, which was something I really wanted to do but wasn't good enough at games yet. And now, I don't have a PS2 anymore, so I don't know if I ever will. Regardless, I loved this game and was so happy to see this on my recommended videos. I hope they remaster the game at some point, though I doubt they will.
I still play this on my Xbox to this day. It's the best Marvel fighting game for me, I don't care what anyone says. Way ahead of its time for 2005. I was 8 back then when I got it, now here I am about to be 26 and still playing it
I wished more people talked about how awesome the art Jae Lee made for this game is. From child to adult. All the art he did for each character is perfection

And thrown in Iron Man, as teaser to what would change the superhero genre forever

the imperfects need to return. you can put them in a marvel like injustice game as the main villains, maybe a new marvel ultimate alliance. these guys have alot of potential
That would be awesome!! I’d buy that game.
EA owns the Imperfects, and since they no longer have the license nor the people who care, it's gonna be a hard thing to accomplish.

I did too! I was so young when I played this game, so my knowledge on Marvel was very small. I would love to see them again!

Regardless, I loved this game and was so happy to see this on my recommended videos. I hope they remaster the game at some point, though I doubt they will.
Before Injustice. There was Nemesis...
Although storyline of both Injustice and Nemesis were different, The atmosphere of this (Nemesis) game gave me Injustice vibes.
This is so something I would've loved playing as a lod
The Wink is probably my favourite character from this title and I wish she would come back for a future title.
Just realized they took some inspiration from Def Jam Fight For NY with the health bars and supers.
Man I really want them to remake this for current gen consoles. Hazmat and hoodwinked were so damn cool!
I still play this on my Xbox to this day. It's the best Marvel fighting game for me, I don't care what anyone says. Way ahead of its time for 2005. I was 8 back then when I got it, now here I am about to be 26 and still playing it

I remember this game; it was the best (non-Nintendo) thing I got to play on my GameCube, beat it twice, love it to this day.
