I am trying to get into Go fr srs because of the generalized strategic thinking it engenders. I love the game just because it's a great game, but the mental sharpness makes it truly worth the time. This video is exactly why I'm here. Not just on your channel, but on The Net, learning a game I can't play with my friends. Thank you; best Go vid I've seen anywhere.
Hi. I’m very new to Go and am fascinated. May I ask, where or how I can get the program you use? I like that it’s able to show/project the point count after a specific placement of a stone. Also… question 2. I’d like to practice with myself. Play both sides. Do you think this is doable in an honest way? As in, not giving more weight to one or the other? Haven’t tried. But will. Just curious about how you feel about this for practice. Thank you.
I think it's worth noting that the first variation you showed was gote, whereas the second was sente--so you're spending a move for that 10 point gain. (Or does the score estimator take this into account? I'm not sure.) I can imagine other endgame at this point that could be comparable (e.g. hane in the top right corner).
True! There's a fairly big followup at J9 where black can pull out their 2 stones, so you could maybe argue it could be sente, but the upper right is big also. But yeah absolutely, sente vs gote is a great additional point to consider!

From 17.5 to 7.5 is a five-point swing, not a ten-point swing. (Around 5:35.)
It may be called a ten-point drop, though.
Hi thanks for the vid. Hoping to see more from you anytime soon :)
Thanks as a five kye player this was quite instructive.

I often play too aggressive 😂 I should slow down and read more
