After going through all the comments here, I am slightly surprised that no one mentioned one of the last games which, unlike Chess, Go and Poker, has still not been conquered by computers - Contract Bridge. I have recently resumed playing Bridge (I learnt it as a kid) after playing Chess and Go for over two decades, and I find it insanely captivating. Would be interested to know your thoughts.
I think it's a cool idea, I love discovering new types of games! There are two games I found interesting to learn and refreshingly different: Arimaa and Riichi Mahjong
I think this is a great idea. You should think about solo "read and write" dice games. These are relatively inexpensive and involve math, logic, and strategy so I think you'd be good at them. Some to consider: (1) fleet dice; (2) metro x; (3) cartographers; (4) proving grounds; (5) roll player; (6) super skill pinball; (7) Ganz Schon. If you are going to do Poker, I'd like to see variations on the base game - perhaps a play through of strip poker ;-)
Very exciting to potentially see some poker related content! Me and my friends started playing regular games throughout the pandemic and it really helped us stay connected and keep sane. Fast forward to today and I'm still pretty bad but enjoy it a lot and play most weekends if I can. In terms of what would most interest me - while I mostly just play for fun, it would be nice to win a bit more often if I'm honest so tips and guides certainly appeal! Mostly though I think I'd really like to see some poker steams and let's plays, those would be excellent (and I'm sure I could learn a lot just seeing how you would play a certain scenario). Thanks and looking forward to seeing what the future holds!
oh that's awesome! Yes I'm by no means a great player, but I can hold my own and (if I'm playing well) be profitable in microstakes (0.10/0.25 NL). I def wanna put up some let's plays or 'things I learned' style videos for poker specifically.
I'm so excited for this new direction! I also love poker and have been curious about MTG since I was a kid. I think a lot of what makes your channel special works well under the umbrella of 'strategy games.' Looking forward to what's next from you : )
Since you like MTG, I suggest checking out Legends of Runeterra! It’s one of the hottest digital CCGs out there rn :D Then, there’s Gwent, which is a highly unique digital CCG in the market! :o
I love how magic is grouped with poker and go. Magic should be considered up there as a respectable strategy game! when AI takes over, magic will probably be the last game left. Excited to see more uploads from you, if that means switching between games to avoid getting burned out, go ahead.
What a lovely update 😄 I also am too curious to focus on one thing, and enjoy cycling through various interests, to avoid burning out on a single topic. Texas Hold'em Poker is a topic I would LOVE for you to do a learning series on. Can't wait to watch your new videos 😀🥳👍👍👍
As long as the content you make is driven by the satisfaction of engaging with whatever you feel like doing, thats most important. If I was a youtuber id be the most inconsistent uplodaer ever. My life revolves around trying new hobbies, coming back to previous ones..some i wish to continue to practice for life, some as a small side activity, or something i probably wont do again, but at least i can say i tried. Just keep being you, you're great at it! Poker and Magic are amazing games and offer a lot of potentially interesting video content to be made. Have you ever tried a Nonogram before? super fun type of puzzle you might like!
Excited to hear that your expanding your channel to other games! Of course you would be obsessed with some of the best games of all time, poker and MTG (in addition to Go). If you’re looking for other games to consider covering, I recommend COIN games (counter-insurgency), war games (such as Combat Commander Europe or Combat Commander Pacific), 18xx train games, Netrunner, Pax games (such as Pax Pamir 2e), Splotter Games (the Great Zimbabwe is currently up for preorder). There are so many. I’m looking forward to seeing what you put out next. Good luck!
I came here for the go videos, but the other games you mention are also interesting. Just a few days of go dabbling has helped me a lot in getting over a bit of chess burnout, so I can understand your situation a little. While I prefer perfect-information games like go and chess, imperfect and chance-inclusive games like poker and magic are also well worth playing. Thanks for all your great content and good luck in your gaming/life journey!
This is awesome!! I totally agree with you! My whole life I always wished I could just find one true love and focus on one amazing game, and get great at it. But my heart could never let that happen as it just gets interested in so many different things. Excited for you and the new content!! I have played TCGs on and off my whole life, but magic is the one I never got into! Perhaps you can inspire me. Do you okay MTG arena? That looks fun as well. My one suggestion (and no worries if this never catches your interest, lol) is Riichi Mahjong. It’s the Japanese mahjong style. Fun, competitive, high skill but also naturally, high luck as well. Really fun and there are some great resources these days to play :) cheers friend!!
Bold move, but pretty understandable. Also this is _your_ channel, "Your"Tube, so it's only fair to change themes when your interests shift! :) Interested for the future, even if I still hope that you end the Lessons in the fundamentals of go series (no pressure!! xD).
I get this so much. I love Go and started studying back in elementary school after reading Hikaru No Go. But, it's such a complex game that it can be disheartening and easy to burn out on. I always get burned out on Go and stop playing for months and months. I also love music and Go takes away a lot of time I could be spending on music. Too many interests and hobbies to become a master of any one thing. lol P.S. MTG is awesome! Haven't played in forever! Love the channel! Looking forward to more videos whether they are about Go or not. Really excited for the Magic the Gathering content! Always forget all the abilities, and having youtube videos to reference would be awesome!
Magic The Gatherung is awesome and I played it in the 1990s. However it is a Collectible Card Game, meaning people need to buy a lot of cards to build the best deck. Also any viewer will own different cards. (But still a great and wonderful game that I would love to watch videos about) An alternative though is LIVING Card Games (LCGs) where you can buy a base set or expansions, but you will know 100% which cards are in each box. This levels the playing field so the winning player is not always the person who spent the most money on booster packs. Android Netrunner and Star Wars the Card Game are both examples of successful LOGS, although I think the base sets are out of print. However LCGs are an interesting genre to at least be aware of. Thank you so much for your lovely and positive personality! Claus, Denmark
I'd love to learn Hanafuda better, tutorials online are always confusing. Maybe you could make an intro series for different games too like you did for Go beginners from 2016, focusing on a handful of essential skills. Those videos helped me get a grip on how to make good shapes and find mistakes before it was too late.
I do hope you could also cover the other old ancient games ( strategy or otherwise) , if as a gamer you don't explore you aren't a true gamer 😀.All the best.
Give Arkham Horror LCG a look maybe 👀, got into it this past year and I really really like it. I'm a newer subscriber that found your channel to study Go. Have been enjoying your content!
Jajajaja I feel the same. I wish I could play shogi, chess, xiangqi, as well as I like to play Go. There are plenty of nice games we also want to play. But in may case and with the amount of time we have to give to study, I better play Go. The others, yes I like them badly but I don't have time 😭😭😭 to study in a deep way as I study Go. Even korean I am learning just to follow the baduk tv broadcasts. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why limit yourself? Put out content you enjoy and people will watch. The only thing about poker is the vast difference of play from online play and live games. Keep at it! Huge support here!
MTG is a really good game, strategically and mentally. It;s important to branch out, and I'm excited to see where you go :3 and, as someone else on hrt, its really amazing the capacity for learning that opens up when you deal with a lot of the Dysphoria Demons; pre-hrt i had to focus on go, or art, or gaming... now, with normal female hormone levels, I can focus on all my hobbies!
I'll be honest it has been impossible for my friends to get me into Magic the couple of times I have joined in. I'm very keen to get your take on it though! Maybe you'll open up some perspectives I haven't appreciated. Have you ever played table top war games?
Haha! maybe I will! I think the thing a lot of folks who don't play MtG don't appreciate is how wildly different each format is. My personal favorite is drafting, where you open packs of cards and make a brand new deck on the fly! It's exciting, every deck is unique, and it's super strategic, even before you play your first game! I play a few tabletop games, I've played Scythe before which was a wild experience.
@@InSente You're right I've never heard of the different formats. That sounds like it adds a bit of healthy chaos - my friends seem to use these heavily curated decks which they've developed and studied over time against each other.
@@Taevec omg I'm so sorry I thought you were joking hahaha. My specialty is more turn based strategy games - the speedrunning world is...incredibly intimidating XD
You might like to check out board games like Transforming Mars or Gaia Project. Not specifically for your channel but just because i think you would like them. I'm like you. I love Go but I like to jump around a lot :)

DUNGEONS 👏 AND 👏 DRAGONS
Currently playing a lot of Netrunner- and funny enough playing it with the person who introduced me to Go and your channel!
Super hyped about this announcement!! Looking forward to seeing new stuff :D
I used to be obssessed with ancient board games. I'd love to see some coverage of something like Senet, Nine Men's Morris or Ur!
Very excited to see how this evolves !! Go Michaela go!
Hyped for poker videos! Good luck with the new direction for your channel. Excited to see how it all goes.
Oh my god I'm subscribed. I'm new to go but I love games of all types. I'm excited to see magic!!!
I think it's a cool idea, I love discovering new types of games! There are two games I found interesting to learn and refreshingly different: Arimaa and Riichi Mahjong
exciting!

I really want to understand poker. This is a good decision.
Honestly SAME lol I'm at that stage of learning where it's apparent how much I don't know and it's wild how deep the game is!
Here to recommend mahjong
“Might be due to my ADHD” big mood
