we should start a nonprofit dedicated to the correction of common misconceptions. I suggest starting by moving penguins to the north pole for an easy fix. It be no more evil goal than most nonprofits.
I did some deep analysis of the Penguin Attack out of the Reti, and actually, it turns out there actually is a countergambit against it by Black that maintains Black's advantage! It's the cool idea of h5, preventing White's g4, and after White's Pseudo-Benko-esque idea of b4 (expanding in the queenside), there is the crazy gambit g5, sacking a pawn for seemingly no reason. But as White will soon realize after taking the pawn, White's pieces find it very hard to even develop while Black's pieces easily find good squares and launch an offensive. Even if White manages to exchange queens, Black will have a very healthy pawn structure while White is extremely cramped. It's unnamed at the moment and has never been played before, so we might as well call that the Orca Countergambit and pave its theory.
There is a Wener Herzog voiceover of a penguin who separates from his group and waddles off away from the sea, to the mountains, to his inevitable doom. Perhaps this is what the penguin opening means, giving up life for the sake of breaking the claustrophobic meta
Feels like it was named by some hopelessly optimistic person. "What should we call this snowy desert hellscape?" "Well at least there's no bears! Maybe we call it anti-bear land?"
Penguins actually live latitude-wise anywhere on the southern hemisphere. In South America, they live as north as the equator on the Gallapagos islands. But your point remains true, or course, as polar bears only live in the Arctic.
Not polar bears, they’re at the north pole while penguins are at the south pole. Orcas, leopard seals, and infrequently some sharks are the natural predators of penguins, all of which hunt them from the water
Looks like something to play if you definitely don't want a draw. It will bring triumphant laurels or you carried out on your shield. Love your content😊
8:58 aaaw that's when he still did his holy gambit grail which he ditched in favor of being a Risk streamer. I really liked the idea of playing every gambit, maybe you could pick up where he left?
Polar bears and penguins never meet. Polar bears are exclusively northern hemisphere inhabitants, in radius of the North Pole Penguins are South Pole, mostly near and around Antartica, as well as far southern america, africa and new zealand. Only exception is the galapagos penguin, but thats as far North as they get ;)
they do dubious things with the rooks brandon jacobson sacrifices his rook on a3/a6 on move 2 and beat danya repeatedly (may not be legit since he got banned afterwards) tigran v petrosian enjoys sacrificing his rooks for minor pieces (this one is definitely legit) well maybe they do not move them 6 times in the opening and sacrifice it for two pieces, so eric rosen is a cut above

I beleive Leapord Seals and Killer Whales are the two biggest threats to penguins, or what we call penguins these days. Technically The Great Auk was the Penguin, what we call penguins today look very similair, so we started calling them, penguins.
You could think of pawn grabs in this opening as "gathering stones" -- something that penguins do to make nests with. There's a penguin fun fact for you. There is a popular belief that male penguins offer stones to females as a form of courtship, but the evidence on that is weak.
I'm the first to admit I have poor general knowledge, and I'm definitely not a penguin expert, but sometimes I'm thrown off by clearly clever people not knowing simple facts like where penguins/polar bears live, what they eat and are eaten by, and even that penguins are birds lol.
@@AuthorNathanJohnson Yeah, obviously, they made it up like "Rat Defense" too, or even something even more random. "Norwegian Rat," Im betting its called something lame like that
it's easier to find usable stock images of penguins for thumbnails as an AI generated one because it doesn't have a background on it or anything and is a clean image you can complain about AI in a lot of instances, but this seems like a sort of weird nitpicky one to me. Thumbnails aren't meant to be some insane, high effort thing, it's just supposed to grab your attention enough for you to click the video. Honestly this seems like exactly the kind of thing I'd want AI to be used for, all it does is save content creators time and it has no real negatives to it.
I am also considering withdrawing from TH-cam completely or from all channels that use AI. I'm slowly getting fed up with this attention-hungry zeitgeist.
@@SuperAmazingJared you know what else saves time? Hiring an artist to do it instead if you’re that lazy to not grab a stock photo of a cartoon penguin from google images. Or just do what he’s always done and have just a photo of his head and a chess board of the game. An ai thumbnail instantly makes me assume the creator is just lazy and doesn’t care about their work, simple.
@@Sonikman103 You know how copyright works, right? Photographs are the intellectual property of the author and you can't just grab one to use in your published work. It always fascinates me how grown people can have such poor general knowledge. And it goes to show that being good at a board game does nothing for actual logical thinking. What do penguins eat? Really? Kinda bird-like animals?
"Penguins are birdlike animals". I learn so much from this channel.
He even said they are "kinda" birdlike animals, so he wasn't even 100% sure of this statement, but still, very informative
😂😂😂 I think it's fair to say eric knows more about chess than penguins...
Safe to say based on some of these questions/comments that biology isn’t one of Eric’s fortes.
Penguins are birds, not birdlike

Tremendous comment
"What eats penguins?" Leopard seals. I mean haven't you watched happy feet?
The word 'arctic' comes from the Greek word 'arktos', meaning 'bear'.
Antarctic=anti-bear=no bears.
Underrated comment. Im gonna use this to a 3rd grader or just a rather slow adult
