    The moly is required for the slip yokes as they have squared profile splines. If they aren’t lubricated with moly they will bind.

    Different grease guns couplers are available and I use a swivel coupler for the U-joints zerks fittings and the yoke zerks fittings. They are smaller in size and easier to get into tight spaces.

    Hey Bob, picked up a low mileage 2014 this past weekend and I’ve been binging your videos every since. Just wanted to drop a thanks and appreciation for the vids. Here’s a possible idea for a new vid. I love the clean look of the doors in the later model GXs. I wanted to take the lower door moldings off my 2014, but couldn’t find anyone on the interwebs deleting their lower door trim. Looking at the Lexus diagrams it seems they drill the mounts into the door, but couldn’t tell 100%. Keep ‘em coming.

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re right. You should watch my video on taking the door panel off and peak at the inner mold line to get a glimpse. Those attachments do seem like a one time plug. Once removed they break off.

    • @jimmyv24
      @jimmyv24 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a 2016 and looked into it too. There are mounting clips/plugs in the door moulding. If you take them off there will be visible holes. Some guys and one of the official Lexus GXOR concepts vinyl wrapped over there holes. on my black GX I just vinyl wrapped all the trim satin black to give it a clean look.

    Awesome video, I think this is a very easy maintiance procedure to skip for someone who doesnt know what "relube the propeller shaft is" and putting that into image search google can get spicy, this is "required" on all Toyota 4x4s vehicles not just GXs , I beleive every 15k miles, to re-lube the propeller shaft.
    More importantly, you need to do that and change gear oil if you just came back from some mudding or forded through a stream/water deep enough where your drivetrain is submerged, don't wait till you hit your regular maintenance interval!!
    Don't buy the cheapest grease gun, trust me, it'll be a giant mess once it breaks. It's okay for grease to come out of the seals on the U joint zerks, you normally want to pump until you start seeing red or fresh grease start to come out. For the drive shafts, there won't be any grease coming out, there is huge debates on how many pumps. You can always call the dealer and ask the tech, 5-6 pumps is okay, I'm sure no mote than 10 won't cause any problems. We will see if the next video will be hydrolocked driveshaft or something involving a spouses dildo. I'm hoping for one of those personally!!

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey GXman, i actually did pump till grease seeped thru the seals. Can't see it because i switched from the red Mobil 1 grease to the gray Valvoline one. I like that your inputs are very in-depth. It helps out the rest of the community.

When I dropped off my car for free maintenance last week I asked to take a lead lexus mechanic for a ride. He acknowledged the thunp and asked to keep gx for another day. @bohan9957 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For the spider yokes, aren't you supposed to keep pumping until all of the old grease have been pushed out? And for the slip yoke, I thought you're not supposed to pump more than five times to prevent overfilling and hydro lock the slip joint.

    • @GXMAN16
      @GXMAN16 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep for the spider yokes, that's normally the procedure, you want to start seeing a hint of that red grease coming out. I have no idea how many pumps are needed for the drive shaft. Toyota doesn't specify, just says to lubricate the propeller shaft every 15k miles. So I'm sure it's fine, as long as you don't pump half a tube in there. I had no idea what a propeller shaft was when I had my first Toyota, so I doubt many people do it. You're also suppose to re torque the chassis bolts too or something like that, yet they don't specificify what the torque is or where those bolts are.

    • @bb5op585
      @bb5op585 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Amd from CarCareNut channel he is a Toyota master mechanic and I asked him the same question about the greasing of the propeller shaft. He said pump grease until you see the shaft move, as soon as it moves you can stop pumping. Spider joint zerk, pump until grease squeezes out then stop.

    Hey GXBob, thanks so much for guiding us through the entire process! I finally made it though I've never done it before.
    One quick question, I recently bought the 15GX used from TX. The car has been serviced at Lexus dealership till 20k miles ago. Now it has 58k miles. I guess it hasn't been lubricated for a long time. I'm pretty sure I injected the grease into the areas but couldn't see any seep out like you did. I put 3-4 pumps more into each but still found no grease seep out. I didn't go too crazy since I didn't want to screw up the seals.
    Any advice? Do you think I should pump more? Can I wait a few months or a few thousand miles and then redo the process?
    Thanks again!

    Hey Bob! Thanks for making all of your videos, they're extremely helpful.
    I just bought a 2016 GX, and am greasing it for the first time. Got through the rear drive shaft without issue, but I was unable to rotate the front one by hand to acccess the fittings. I had the front tires off the ground, and was in neutral. What am I missing?

      i would if i had oem foglights to begin with but thats not hard to do. I think i did a video on that for "turn signal to foglight conversion". Same concept.
