    The manufacturer should purchase the rights to put this video on DVD and include it with every purchase of an Instant Pot Ultra. Very professionally done and explains the use of the control panel settings very clearly and logically. I am a new user of the Instant Pot Ultra 80 and, so far, I have washed it, done the water test, and cooked a couple of batches of hard-boiled eggs. Everything is going well with your help. Thank you very much.

    Don't know how I lived without this for so long! I make dog food for 2 of our dogs th-cam.com/users/postUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg (we have 5!) and it is so much quicker in this. Love having the inner pot stainless so I can use my immersion blender right in it without worrying about scratching. It makes potatoes great and fast! Still working on the vegetables, first time came out great, second time I did different ones and they were a little too mushy. Just need to adjust the time. I highly recommend this pot!!!

    She does a great job with her presentation. I especially liked the way she visually showed us how to switch back and forth between the modes, i.e., changing it from steam to a different selection, for my purpose, the meat setting. She showed us what pressing the knob, turning the knob accomplishes. She demonstrated how to get out of my meat setting selection mode to the minutes mode so the user can override the IP Ultra preset, in my case, from 45 mins to longer if desired. Thank you!

    Thank you for such a detailed video. I was sitting here staring at my machine afraid to even do the water test, but watching your video has made me feel more confident. I grew up listening to stories about my grandma exploding a pressure cooker while cooking. That's why I never owned one until today.

      Janice, I actually was present when my mom's PC exploded and turmeric-stained curry was all over the walls and ceilings! That won't be happening with today's modern electric pressure cookers. The Instant Pot has so many safety features, you can rest easy. Thanks for your feedback!

      Paint the Kitchen Red, I did two different chicken dishes that day. One worked okay (need to put less water with my rice next time and cook longer) and the the other got me two “burn” messages. I finally threw it all in my crock pot overnight when I couldn’t get the slow cook settings where I wanted them. I will keep trying.

    • @PainttheKitchenRed
      @PainttheKitchenRed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jackiefierman be aware that many Instant Pot recipes you find may have been tested on older versions of the Instant Pot which didn't have the 'burn' error code. They weren't as sensitive :) So make sure you follow a recipe with comments. • @PainttheKitchenRed
      @PainttheKitchenRed  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@helenjoksimovic8953 - there will be no steam coming out when the pot has pressurized. Once cooking is complete, release steam by pressing the button or waiting until pressure drops on its own (10 to 30 minutes depending on quantity of food and liquid).

    Good that you showed how to remove and replace the sealing ring. Same on the float valve and anti block shield. All good to know. Good run through on different settings and first check by doing the water test. I’m sure this will be helpful for the brand newbies to IP, like me.
    I’m wondering if the pot (and lid) can be washed or at least started for cleaning, by adding a drop or two of dawn and then filling the pot to the max line and pressure cooking it. That’s how Vitamix blenders are cleaned. Just ad a drop of dawn, fill with hot water and let her rip! Just remove the picture and rinse. You’re done!

    • @PainttheKitchenRed
      @PainttheKitchenRed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for your comment. Glad to be of help! I wash the stainless steel inner pot and lid, including sealing ring in the dishwasher (lid parts in top rack only) For washing by hand, Barkeeper's Friend works really well to remove any stains in the stainless steel inner pot. I've pressure cooked lemon and water to get smells out, but pressure cooking would probably not work for messy food stains!

    Excellent video in quality, content, and style. I wish I would have found this last week when I bought my Ultra. I have done the water test, made easy peeling hard boiled eggs, chicken and rice, and two recipes for white rice. I’m trying to perfect the white rice process. I’ve used both the Pressure setting and the Rice setting for my rice trials. I like the Rice setting for the fluffiness of the rice but had a little build-up, sticking. The Pressure setting done for 4 minutes didn’t produce as fluffy as the Rice setting-but minimal liner build-up or sticking. Any comments on rice?
    I’m looking forward to more of your videos.

I think your experiments might teach me something because I haven't really strayed from what works for me :) For Basmati I use 6 minutes and Jasmine I use 4 minutes. I rinse the rice but you might want to try soaking - some people have luck soaking for 15 to 30 minutes. I would love to get your final results if you continue on your quest for perfect rice - all the best!

    I've been using a 3qt for years, and now I know how my new dial version works, thanks :) FYI, I don't believe you have to hold the start button, you just press it I strongly suspect (because the 3qt old one works this way) then wait a couple seconds. (Seems like it's waiting for you to make more changes to the current program.) Also I'm not fully clear on how the little speech bubble shaped valve knobs works, my old one doesn't even have that. I'll look around in some of your other videos.

      You don't have to hold down the start button - just press it. If I said that, I misspoke! That button you mentioned takes the place the steam release handle in your old model. Press it down to release pressure and flick it counter-clockwise to get it into 'sealing'.

    Thank you Nina!! I've had my Instant Pot since Christmas but I've been afraid to use it. Your easy to follow video helped me get over that fear to do the steam test. Tonight I'll be surprising my husband with an Instant Pot ribs dinner.

    Years ago, I blew up my pressure cooker. It just missed my toddler. I think that’s is why I also just stare at my instant pot ultra. Thank you for getting me motivated by making it simple. 😁

    Can you adjust the temperature on any of the individual settings?

    • @PainttheKitchenRed
      @PainttheKitchenRed  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You cannot adjust the temperature in pressure cooking functions - it's only high or low pressure. You can adjust temperature for Saute, Yogurt, and Ultra functions.

    Thanks for this helpful video! What happens if you don't press the quick release button?

    • @PainttheKitchenRed
      @PainttheKitchenRed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you don't do a quick release, the pressure will drop on its own. This is a natural pressure release (aka NPR or NR). This is best for meats, in particular.

    Thanks for your video! I was wondering whether it's possible to adjust the temperature of the instant pot so that it can be used in fermentation? Hopefully you can answer this... Many thanks in advance!

    • @PainttheKitchenRed
      @PainttheKitchenRed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome. The Ultra does allow you to set custom temperatures and pressure levels using the "ultra" setting. Hopefully that'll work for you.

    For a natural pressure release; I can just leave the IP alone and the pin will come down? I know for other models that’s the case, but since this model has a different mechanism, I’m not quite sure. I bought one and still get confused on what to do when the recipe calls for a natural release.

    • @PainttheKitchenRed
      @PainttheKitchenRed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jess, that's exactly right - you just wait for the float valve to go down and that time is dependent on the quantity of food in the Instant Pot. You can watch this video for some more info on releasing pressure: th-cam.com/video/sXmarvVGCRM/w-d-xo.html

    does the slow cooker function work like regular slow cookers how do you use the slow cooker function

    • @PainttheKitchenRed
      @PainttheKitchenRed  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the slow cooker setting is supposed to be like a traditional slow cooker. But the lowest setting is like 'warm' in a regular slow cooker.

    I loved your video it was so very helpful and so easy to understand thank you for making it. I have one question is there away I can set the time to cook or must I just pick the preset buttons only?

    • @fishlips4076021

      I got it just took me awhile, lol thanks again love your videos!

    • @PainttheKitchenRed
      @PainttheKitchenRed  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you can. Every preset can be changed, and the next time you use it, it will remember it. For example, suppose the preset for soup/stew is 30 minutes. You can press the button until the time is blinking and change the time to 20 minutes. Next time you press soup/stew it should default to 20 minutes. That being said, I almost always just press the pressure cook button and change the time to whatever time I need. I hope that answers your question.
