You have to go back to Episode 1 of the Third Season of the Sing Off. You will hear Scott say he found Kevin on the internet celloboxing on TH-cam. BTW, it was Scott who had the energy and drive to get the group together in the first place. Ari had other plans, was studying for the opera, which he still could do. I wish him well.

I doubt he actually did both at the same time, though possible. I figure more likely that he did each part separately in the recording studio, just like each individual member records their part individually in studio and it is then mixed.
Again, I could be completely wrong, but I think my assumption is probable.

I feel like someone needs to clarify this: yes, Avi did leave, but they aren't breaking up. Kirstin has told many interviewers that they're working on getting someone to take his spot. Also, they're all working on solo projects because they have different ideas that they want to express individually. Just because they're developing their own musical styles doesn't mean they're not going to continue on as PTX. It isn't the beginning of the end. It's just a lot of new things happening at once. Let's continue supporting them like we have for the past 6 years ❤

yes i can't stop crying, but i'm smiling through my tears because i'm so proud of them. by them i mean all five of them. i'm proud of kirstin, kevin, scott and mitch for pursuing their careers and continuing to do what they love, to live their dreams, but i'm also proud of avi for putting himself first and doing what's best for his mental health.
those five people changed my life and i'll forever be thankful.

Honestly? One of their best arrangements. so simple yet so beautiful especially with the added subtext of avi's departure
I actually wasn't a fan of the arrangement. I'd say 3/4 times they do a song it's my favorite version of it, between their insane singing talent and great arrangements they can challenge even legendary songs, but in this case I like Calum Scott's version better. This one almost seemed a little ...incongruous. Maybe I just don't like the addition of the cello *shrug*.

I've been a PTX fan from the very beginning! I don't watch a lot of TH-cam, but they are crazy talented and love their music.
I am so very proud of Pentatonix. I know it can't be easy for them to continue on through change but they are doing it with grace and professionalism. They are a family as well. Everyone please remember that this isn't an easy time for them and they are all still very young. This was an amazing cover that was heartbreakingly beautiful.

My assumption was nothing. Glad I was wrong. But it's not uncommon for PTX not to do anything for months (Well, they'd be busy, we just wouldn't notice it).
Well they've done songs with Kevin's Cello before so it's not like this is the first Non-acapella song they've done. It will probably return to acapella once they find Avi's replacement

This is a fantastic cover! And just to put my opinion here, I don't think that they should change their name, and I don't think that they HAVE to replace Avi. I wish Avi well with his new endeavor.

I think what hit me in this video is the fact that you can easily tell Kevin's bass part could of easily of been sung by Avi, hell when I first listened to this I did hear him.. I don't know what they plan on doing in the future, (Finding a new bass or sticking with the Cello), but whatever it is, it is clear nothing will make the same sound or feeling Avi gave to the group. The harmonies were beautiful but you can tell even in the small solo part for the Cello.. they wished Avi was the one singing. The future is going to be hard, for both us Pentaholics and them, let us all hope things turn out on top for them and they can still blow our minds. (Btw that was still an amazing cover it was so heartfelt
I really LOVE that Full "OWN" chord they did on 2:10 entering one after the other... Their voices matches sooo well, its insane.

I'm sad how negative some of these comments are. I know it's sad that Avi has left, but we accept that fact and be happy Pentatonix is continuing to produce music, which is what they love doing.

i don't think they are specifically negative, we still love this video and love them but everyone is just needs time to get over avi leaving. after all, this is thier first video they have posted without avi.

Priyanka Dayabhai Yes I understand that but before the video was public the comments from patreons were all so supportive and some of these comments are harsh and saying that they have lost all of the spark and they won't be successful without avi which I think it's a bit too harsh.

I remember listening to this the first time
, my heart just broke. Literal sobbing along as I'm listening.
Especially at 2:15. I remember saying that the cello felt like it was Avi. Listening to this again in 2020 , the feels are still there. But Matt has been such an amazing addition to the group, that it makes this song less painful to hear. We still do love Avi, and we're just happy that he's happy now.
So gorgeous. I like the use of cello to fill in the lows -- a great bridge between the amazingness of Avi and the introduction of whoever the new bass is. It's obvious that PTX is going to be a-ok. ❤️

Im so happy to see where they all have come since Avi left. It was sad, but now they are all living their best lives. Avi is making music that makes him happy and PTX is still thriving with Matt. I'll admit, Im 😊-Happy Now-😊

I don't know if I'm looking into this but I'm not sure people have realised the significance of this song in connection to Avi's hiatus.
When Robyn wrote this song it was about how she loved someone, but they were with someone else and despite being angry she was still so happy for them despite her own loneliness.
This is there way of telling Avi they still love him and that they wish he was still part of there group, but accept that he is making his own music and they still care.
We should do the same. We shouldn't be perpetually sad about Avi leaving, we should be so happy for him and what he is now accomplishing.
And anyway he's on hiatus so he should return #soon

I've come to expect nothing but fantastic music from Pentatonix, and this is no exception. Kevin's dual performance was excellent and the others are still marvelous. But do they still qualify as an acappella group if a musical instrument is used?
I'd say yes because the majority of their songs are acappella, and all of their originals are acapella. They only have a few songs with instruments... They contribute a lot to acapella so I would definitely say, yes, they are still considered an acapella group.
Josilyn Gatrell it's an ongoing debate although I think most people agree, myself included that they are definitely a cappella. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they've only used the cello on four songs since they started and their discography is quite extensive. Re-categorizing them because Kevin uses his crazy talent on a few songs would be immensely unfair in my opinion. Sorry for the tirade!!!

PTX released a video where the group and Avi said he would be leaving because he couldn't keep up with their schedule and he wanted more time with his friends and family.
jaznique mosley he had to leave the group. He felt like he was holding them back, and he could keep up with their super fast pace anymore. He wanted to be they for his family and friends. He did what was best for him, and his well being. That's very important. You wanna be a part of a group so much to the point where you damage yourself emotionally. It's not good. I'm sad to see him gone, but I hope he's doing much better now.
Using a cello in place of Avi's voice was a brilliant move. Avi's voice is so smooth and mellow, just like a cello.

Logan Affleck he doesn't harmonise he matches the Cello solo in that song harmony is when two different notes pitches are different but sound good together e.g. C and E played together sounds nice and is a harmony playing two C's at the same time on different instruments is called matching pitch
The cello adds an undercurrent of melancholy which this song deserves.
