I doubt he actually did both at the same time, though possible. I figure more likely that he did each part separately in the recording studio, just like each individual member records their part individually in studio and it is then mixed.
Again, I could be completely wrong, but I think my assumption is probable.

You have to go back to Episode 1 of the Third Season of the Sing Off. You will hear Scott say he found Kevin on the internet celloboxing on TH-cam. BTW, it was Scott who had the energy and drive to get the group together in the first place. Ari had other plans, was studying for the opera, which he still could do. I wish him well.

Honestly? One of their best arrangements. so simple yet so beautiful especially with the added subtext of avi's departure
I actually wasn't a fan of the arrangement. I'd say 3/4 times they do a song it's my favorite version of it, between their insane singing talent and great arrangements they can challenge even legendary songs, but in this case I like Calum Scott's version better. This one almost seemed a little ...incongruous. Maybe I just don't like the addition of the cello *shrug*.

, my heart just broke. Literal sobbing along as I'm listening.
Especially at 2:15. I remember saying that the cello felt like it was Avi. Listening to this again in 2020 , the feels are still there. But Matt has been such an amazing addition to the group, that it makes this song less painful to hear. We still do love Avi, and we're just happy that he's happy now.
I'm a new Pentaholic and this just shattered my heart to a million pieces. Seeing just the four of them sitting there, it looks... wrong. I couldn't help but wonder if Avi wouldn't be the one doing those low notes that Kevin is doing on the cello.

100% he would be. You can especially hear it in the low D-flat after "I just came to say goodbye". That feels like a textbook Avi moment where he hits his lowest note right at the emotional climax of the song

@emily- They are still acapella but Kevin is a cellist and they have to give him a chance to play it. It's not the first time that he has played it with them either. He plays it at live concerts.
This may be my favorite Pentatonix video. I find myself coming back to this one over and over. I love how Kevin plays Avi's part on the cello. I also love how it's a love song about being broken hearted and moving on just like the band was at this stage. Bravo guys.
What amazes me about these guys is the emotion that they put into every song they do! But I suppose that’s one of the reasons I love them.

Catarina Sena Going on tour meant spending lots of time away from his family. He hardly got to see them, and he was becoming super occupied so he decided to quit. They posted a video to Facebook I think, but someone else might have put it on TH-cam if you want the whole story.
I feel like someone needs to clarify this: yes, Avi did leave, but they aren't breaking up. Kirstin has told many interviewers that they're working on getting someone to take his spot. Also, they're all working on solo projects because they have different ideas that they want to express individually. Just because they're developing their own musical styles doesn't mean they're not going to continue on as PTX. It isn't the beginning of the end. It's just a lot of new things happening at once. Let's continue supporting them like we have for the past 6 years ❤

These guys took a beautiful song and made it their own. Love it. I'm not a music critic by any means but the fact that I just played this thing like 10 times in a row means they got at least one new fan. Ridiculous performance all around.

I think what hit me in this video is the fact that you can easily tell Kevin's bass part could of easily of been sung by Avi, hell when I first listened to this I did hear him.. I don't know what they plan on doing in the future, (Finding a new bass or sticking with the Cello), but whatever it is, it is clear nothing will make the same sound or feeling Avi gave to the group. The harmonies were beautiful but you can tell even in the small solo part for the Cello.. they wished Avi was the one singing. The future is going to be hard, for both us Pentaholics and them, let us all hope things turn out on top for them and they can still blow our minds. (Btw that was still an amazing cover it was so heartfelt

I do like matt....just for people like me (bass's who grew up with avi as one of our biggest inspirations) we miss him.
I'm glad that avi did go on to make his own music...I just miss him at times...I do LOVE matt tho! his voice is wonderful!

We will all miss Avi. PTX definately won't be the same, even with their new bass they're looking for. Avi was a huge piece of PTX. And he's still making great music with Avriel and the Sequoias. I can't wait to see both PTX and Avriel and the Sequoias someday in concert. #PTXFOREVER

I know it’s probably on purpose but in this vid they look so sad and I feel like it’s because Avi left and I already miss him so much. I respect his decisions but that does not mean that we won’t miss him I really loved him he might if even been my favorite person in the group he was just so genuine and sweet 😭❤️❤️
