Gears of War is back! It's been 3 years since Gears of War: Judgment came out, and the series was seemingly dead for the past couple of years. Judgment was a big disappointment as it felt rushed and done without inspiration. Microsoft bought the Gears of War of franchise of Epic Games soon after, and handed over the reins to The Coalition. I am happy to say that the game is return to form to the franchise. The campaign is fluid, cinematic and great fun. I love that the Gears of War humor is still intact here, and that it's self aware of the ridiculousness of it all. The gameplay is as fluid as it's ever been. The controls feel amazing. My only qualms with the story is that the ending felt a little abrupt to me. I like most of the new characters, but the three main characters (JD, Del, and Kait) are excellent. They're funny and likable. I like the mix of old and new by The Coalition, especially not overshadowing the new characters with fan favorites.
Gears of War 4 takes place 25 years after the Imulsion Countermeasure weapon destroyed all Imulsion on the planet Sera, taking the Locust and the Lambent with them as well. Unfortunately, this also knocked out the use of fossil fuels, forcing humanity to adapt new ways for survival. The countermeasure also brought the advent of "Windflares", powerful windstorms that form across the planet. Following the aftermath of the Lambent Epidemic, the reformed Coalition of Ordered Governments estimated that only hundreds of thousands of humans are left on Sera. To prevent the population from declining, walled-off cities were built to protect the citizens from the dangers outside. The COG also declared martial law, preventing any travel from outside of city walls. Some human survivors rejected the viewpoints of the COG and formed a group called the "Outsiders" that live outside of the COG jurisdiction, conducting raids on COG territory to gather resources

Hearing Marcus rage over his house getting destroyed during the whole chapter, will always be on of my most favorite gameplay moments in the Gears of War series
It's nothing compared to if you destroy all the tomatoes because Marcus goes ballistic ranting how they were Dom's tomato seeds and because J.D. (or rather the player) destroyed them the old Gear chews your hide out.
His house may be in ruined, but his tomatoes? COG went too far there!
Best line of the game: Shit, they're gonna mess up my fucking tomatoes!

Fun fact: in the book series, Marcus spent a lot of time growing tomatoes in the gardens while he served time in the Slab (prison).

well they are setting up a new triology but i gotta admit. it did feel like it ended to soon. still i think they'll do it better for the sequel
That was honestly my only gripe with the story. Don't get me wrong either, you do get a full on Gears campaign, not like Judgment, but I guess because there's so much that happened in the last 25 years, it feels like they could have put so much more. I"m guessing we're going to get some story DLC like Gears 3.
Yeah I agree, and what about Carmine? Was it Clayton Carmine who died in the Outsider camp? Or was it a different person with the same name and the developers were using it as a reference to the old GoW franchise?

To see the old COG versus the new COG was awesome. Seeing Marcus, Baird, Cole, Sam, and even Hoffman was unbelievable! Some members were missing, yes. But the story is getting better and better with each game. The Old COG is where it's at!!! R.I.P. Dominic Santiago, Anthony and Benjamin Carmine, Tai, Minh Young Kim and all the gears we lost along the way...

When you spend the first hour/2 hours of the game thinking to yourself "Hmmmmm... this game... something is missing..." and then Marcus' voice comes blasting through your headset and you just know right away. "Ah, so that's what it was!"

I think one thing I can appreciate in all of these GOW games, even 4 and 5, is that they all keep the same sound that plays when you finish a fight.
Really love how this game went all out on the subtle nonverbal expressions & gestures of each character, it really gives them all that much more realism & speaks to the audiences in a ways that words just can't express.

I always felt bad for how the locust got wiped out in the third game because one of the reasons they attached was because of the virus that forced them above ground before turning lambent. Am I alone on wanting to see some peaceful locust or something

Well I guess you can sympathize the Locust for it, but I think Queen Myrrah is pretty irredeemable and cruel in my eyes
Not just that, but let's not forget the Locust were made as a result of human experimentation. A race of beings who suffered nothing but injustice and when they retaliated, still lost.
Myrrah's original plan was peace with humanity if Adam Fenix killed the lambent. Unfortunately he wasn't an imulsion expert, he was a weapons expert so he took too long and RAAM helped push Myrrah into war with humanity so they could then flood the hollow and kill the lambent. Sad thing is, Eileen Fenix WAS an expert in imulsion and was the first to meet the locust and was killed. Had that not have happened, Myrrah would've made her deal with Eileen who probably could have saved them and prevented the whole war.

You can really see the toll Dom's death took on Marcus. Marcus farms tomatoes like Dom did in Gears 3, even getting pissed when they get destroyed (exactly like Dom). James' middle name is also in honour of Dom.
I remember playing gears 4 with my dad and I loved every second of it he's an og gears fan so he actually understood the storyline

Wow that twist at the end, kinda saw it coming more or less when i first saw the weird symbol in the pendant, it reminded me of the Locust and then the end comes and BAM! turns out it had the Locust crest in the back and Myrrah had a daughter that for some reason wasn't in Nexus or with the rest of the Horde, did Myrrah sent her daughter away to protect her? who was her father? did Myrrah had more feelings than just pure hatred? are they really impliying that the artifact belonged to Myrrah or it belonged to a human who found the artifact? maybe they're just impliying that so we get more excited? haha so many fucking questions damn! i wasn't expecting this reaction with this new game but holy damn, they nailed it, loved the new characters but hated that Marcus wasn't able to remain happy, bullshit on Anya's death, i wanna know so much.
I hope the multiplayer is an improved version of GoW3 and not that sorry excuse of a game called Judgment, AGH! just typing it makes me sick..... Thanks for the video guys!!!

If Myyrah had a daughter what if it was MARCUS HALF SISTER .Since she had MARCUS DAD and somehow had a child from him.This would be a bad ass plot in later games.
I felt the same way especially after Judgement .Microsoft did really good bringing in alot of OG Epic Devs to create the Coalition .This is exactly how you kept a series alive I wish they could have have done Halo 4 and 5 this good I mean I still like the new Halo ,but my god The Coalition came out swinging and it shows that they really respect the source material.Oh did you know that person who wrote the Gears books and extended universe books also wrote this story.
I'm assuming the reason she wasn't podded was because they wanted to make her the new queen, if they're implying that Myrrah was her mother.
I'm thinking Myrrah had a daughter as a failsafr plan so if something happened to her she knew the Locust or whatever would find her daughter to get a new queen. I doubt she had a loving union she must've manipulated a guy. Question is who is that?

When they got into the giant DeeBees towards the end, I squee'd with delight, because it reminds me of both the Brumak ride and Pacific Rim. Glorious, simply glorious.

Holy shit. This is a great start to a new trilogy. I loved this story and the new cast of characters. It was great seeing Marcus, Baird, Cole, and Sam again. Still looking badass as ever. If I had to rate the new team then it would have to be Del as #1, Kait as #2, and James as #3. They were all so good.
Things to note:
Kait and James are obviously going to get together and be a couple by the time this trilogy is over. Baird and Sam did get together it would seem unless I mistook that scene. I also have a feeling that one or some of the old crew are going to die sometime during the next two games. The Swarm is a hell of alot cooler then the Locust, more disgusting too. I can't wait to see what they do with them in terms of more enemy types. Also, Gears 2 final boss was shit just like how the final boss for Gears 4 was shit so hopefully they got the shit bosses out of the way and the next two final bosses will be good since Gears 1 and 3 boss fights were great. Interesting that Kait is the grand daughter of Myra, can't wait to see how that plays out since the Swarm are looking for a Queen to lead them just like how Myra led the Locust. Kait might be in danger in the later games. She can't die cuz James has to get all up in that.
I'd rate this game as a 9/10. The story was good, it was interesting to see how they'd try to explain how the Locust are back but in a different, nasty form. The characters were great, the interactions they had with each other felt real. The humor in Gears of War has always been funny and great, but I felt they may have gone a little bit overboard with the humor in Gears 4, thats a very minor complaint though.
I can't fucking WAIT for Gears 5 and 6 now. Consider me HYPED!!
Same this is game was awesome and can't wait for 5 and 6. I hope they show more of the Carmines as for there is still Clay (If he's not dead) and there is another brother. Even after finishing this video, I still don't know what happened to the Carmine that was seen in the beginning of the game.

They named each Carmine based on which letter matches up to the number the game is, Anthony, Ben, Clay were 1,2 and 3.
So these 3 Carmine's are D, E and F.

I know this, Gears is one of my favorite series, but it isn't stated anywhere that the Carmine in the village is D Carmine. In Gears 1-3 we knew their names right off the bat. Anthony, Benjamin, Clay. All they say is Carmine. They don't say anything else. So unless its stated/shown otherwise, that is not D Carmine.

So, after spending years killing the Locusts and finally destroying them in the last war between them and the Lambent, the dead come back as something worst. Only this time, the kids of the Old COG heroes like Marcus, Anya, Baird, Cole, and others are now fighting the good fight. Only real question is: Who will live and who will die? And why is Marcus and his crew back in the shit again lol?

I'm too old to be making comments like this but that chapter where you take out the plane and ride over it is FUCKING COOL. I hated that they were bringing GOW back but I actually like the direction they've taken it.

even in gears3 it shows that prescot made a palace for the cog elite until locudt to the place over

I always hope they would make a Gears prequel game based entirely on the pendulum wars, not just the little sample you play at the beginning of this game and a gears game based on aspho fields where it shows marcus in his youth I.E early to late 20s
