@@elcidleon6500 For sure, first the pendulum wars that lasted if I remember correctly like 90 years, then 6 months after the war ended E-Day happened and a good chunk of humanity was wiped out in just the first day and the COG had no choice but basically nuke their own world to save what they could and slug it out with the grubs for 15 years before saying fuck it and sinking their last city. Then the lambent show up and threatened to turn what's left of humanity and got through by the skin of their teeth. Yeah they had some 20 years to rebuild but the swarm show their ugly heads with the ability to turn humans into more swarm forcing humanity into another bloody war of attrition. Honestly if I had to live through all of that I would just laugh at the sheer absurdity of it all.

The thing with Dom, is that Gears was in the peak ofshare screen coop. From CoD to Halo, everyone were playing with buddies. So many of us started playing Dom instead of Marcus as a main character, since everytime we would play we would play him. When we found Maria and Dom plead Marcus to help him, it hit hard. We knew the only reason he was still standing was because of Marcus....but his sacrifice...it was like loosing a brother, loosing the main character for many players. Gears moving without him, left a void. And they kinda tried the same thing with JD and Dale. I think it was too soon. By the time we get into Dale as a character they off it.
Jup. Ever since Gears 1 I always chose to play as Dom, when my cousin and I did the campaigns on various difficulty. It was weird losing him in Gears 3 and I soon after left gaming behind until 2020.
This has been one of the most detailed GoW lore reading I’ve heard. Honestly even after all of this time to learn the prequel to all of it was a surprise to me. We all do but it be just another cod game in gears of War art with third point of view.... if they don't add 1 shot weapons. Then it be great it help slow down the combat just hiding in cover to fight but sadly I know combat fight won't be the main focus
As a short addon, it would be fine, it was nice in Gears 4 when you got a little snippit but gears is about fighting horrible beasties, I'd rather they kept away from generic bro dudes.
I started watching this because my husband is over the moon excited for Gears 6 & I wanted to understand the storyline so I can keep up with the new release. He has the Gears Logo tattooed on him & he lights up talking about it. Hasn’t loved another game the same since. I remember playing gears 1-3 with my brother, we either played co-op or took turns getting killed and it brought a few good memories; shocked when the carmines kept getting killed (I thought they just kept making more to just die), shocked when kim died, almost depressed when dom died, wondering what they did to make ty off himself (i didnt know at the time because we didnt have any comics). When gears 4-5 came out we didnt play co-op and he didnt have as much time for gaming so I finished it for him, letting him know when the cut scenes came so it would be paused till he got caught up, it was a really happy-sad time getting all these memories, thank you for getting into the lore of a game I know helped strengthen my bond with my brother.
I just got that in gears 5 when niles says "as someone once said to me nighty night" he is referring to Marcus in gears of war 2 when he shut niles down
I know this may be off topic @harry but ive been going through a tough time in life. This video gave me a huge sense of comfort as i was an avid gears fan and loved playing the games. Never stop doing what you do harry it helps in more ways then you know.

Finally some attention on the amazing GoW universe! Fun fact about Sera(not mentioned in video): Sera originally was only has 1 mega continent surrounded by a massive ocean with spotted islands around it. Later changing to a world map more similar to earth. It's theorized that Sera is larger than earth by a significant degree.

"This isn't about you, this is about me!" Never played 4 and 5, but now I understand why these two games are so reviled if the players have to deal with this type of character being one of the protagonists.
"reviled" might be a bit much but yeah "the new kids" are quite annoying. "Young MC hype and cool" syndrome while the old cast "are the old boomers"... Kind of in fashion these days, it's going to pass eventualy.
I liked Fahz, they really tried to make him look like an 'asshole' but most of the interactions made me think he was the sensible (cant really think of a better word) one that got treated like shit by the spoilt brat kids so he gives them grief anytime he has a chance
I see a lot of comments in here saying that gears 4 and 5 “fell off” or are just straight up not good games. They’re different, not bad games. I was 6 or 7 when I played gears 1 and I’ve been a fan of the entire series ever since. 4 and 5 included.
Tbh the only “bad” one is 5, and that’s because the story is quite frankly nonsense and the choice is extremely stupid and manipulative, and the skiff really just sucks Judgment is fine, definitely one of the weaker ones though My issue with 5s story pertains to it just being a reset, Marcus deserves some damn rest for once, and the Locust just straight up being back now kind of ruins the sacrifices made during the original trilogy. I also REALLY HATE the choice. The game has you spend the majority of your time with Del, building him up, so you like him and don’t want anything bad to happen to him. Except the other option is Marcus Fenix’s son, a character who is barely present in this game but was the PC in 4, the son of the icon of the series who is a man who has lost so much in his life (even if you didn’t read any novels or comics, you know he lost his father twice and Dom just by playing the games). So the choice is either dude you spent the whole game with and you like being around, or the generic protagonist character who you only care about because of his relationship to THE main character of the series. It’s cheap, and we all know it’s Del that’s canonically going to die, so I don’t get why they gave you a choice.

This is crazy gears of war is what got me into gaming although I started a bit late I won’t have been gaming for like four or five years but that spaned out between like 10 to 15 years I embarrassing. I had learned so much that I didn’t know a lot of small things about the game like the 26 hour day and so on I didn’t even take the time to notice that because I was just so hooked into the storyline and the gameplay.

You can tell Maria was happy to see Dom and to hear her struggling to Breathe and everything and then Dom dying in the next installment, Damn Also ironic to know that Jin made the COG into something Anya wanted to avoid, talk about a punch to her hero’s face

Most importantly, thanks for pausing commentary and showing full cutscenes of Dom meeting Maria (Gears 2) and visiting her grave (Gears 3). Those parts make Gears a human story, about loss (sadness), (resilience) carry on while they are no longer around, fragile nature of life (life is unpredictable and short) & life is precious (good times don’t last forever)

I’ve read the novels, comics, and of course played the games. This is a fantastic “CliffNotes” of the known story so far. Finally some attention on the amazing GoW universe! Fun fact about Sera(not mentioned in video): Sera originally was only has 1 mega continent surrounded by a massive ocean with spotted islands around it. Later changing to a world map more similar to earth. It's theorized that Sera is larger than earth by a significant degree.

Never played 4 and 5, but now I understand why these two games are so reviled if the players have to deal with this type of character being one of the protagonists.
"reviled" might be a bit much but yeah "the new kids" are quite annoying. "Young MC hype and cool" syndrome while the old cast "are the old boomers"... Kind of in fashion these days, it's going to pass eventualy.
I liked Fahz, they really tried to make him look like an 'asshole' but most of the interactions made me think he was the sensible (cant really think of a better word) one that got treated like shit by the spoilt brat kids so he gives them grief anytime he has a chance

dude i just found your channel and you dont understand i have been looking for this type of video for gears for literal years I love you.
I see a lot of comments in here saying that gears 4 and 5 “fell off” or are just straight up not good games. They’re different, not bad games. I was 6 or 7 when I played gears 1 and I’ve been a fan of the entire series ever since. 4 and 5 included.
Tbh the only “bad” one is 5, and that’s because the story is quite frankly nonsense and the choice is extremely stupid and manipulative, and the skiff really just sucks
Judgment is fine, definitely one of the weaker ones though
My issue with 5s story pertains to it just being a reset, Marcus deserves some damn rest for once, and the Locust just straight up being back now kind of ruins the sacrifices made during the original trilogy.
I also REALLY HATE the choice. The game has you spend the majority of your time with Del, building him up, so you like him and don’t want anything bad to happen to him. Except the other option is Marcus Fenix’s son, a character who is barely present in this game but was the PC in 4, the son of the icon of the series who is a man who has lost so much in his life (even if you didn’t read any novels or comics, you know he lost his father twice and Dom just by playing the games).
So the choice is either dude you spent the whole game with and you like being around, or the generic protagonist character who you only care about because of his relationship to THE main character of the series. It’s cheap, and we all know it’s Del that’s canonically going to die, so I don’t get why they gave you a choice.

This is crazy gears of war is what got me into gaming although I started a bit late I won’t have been gaming for like four or five years but that spaned out between like 10 to 15 years I embarrassing. I had learned so much that I didn’t know a lot of small things about the game like the 26 hour day and so on I didn’t even take the time to notice that because I was just so hooked into the storyline and the gameplay.
I don’t normally comment on videos but holy shit dude this is amazing, I always enjoy longer lore videos and this is excellent the amount of time and depth you go into is incredible. The page snippets of what’s being explained is chef kiss

Never knew the backstory of GOW…and ive been playing it since Gears 1. Amazing Lore. What broke me was Dom and Maria. You can tell Maria was happy to see Dom and to hear her struggling to Breathe and everything and then Dom dying in the next installment, Damn

Most importantly, thanks for pausing commentary and showing full cutscenes of Dom meeting Maria (Gears 2) and visiting her grave (Gears 3). Those parts make Gears a human story, about loss (sadness), (resilience) carry on while they are no longer around, fragile nature of life (life is unpredictable and short) & life is precious (good times don’t last forever)
Just absolutely mind boggling how much they went back and added after 1, 2 and 3 to show the build up just to the first game of finding Marcus in prison

This was my favorite game series of all time so I was hooked all 4 and a half hours. I still bust out my dusty 360 and play through the first three games every couple of years. It's making me have a good laugh now because I remember after Gears 3 came out one of my buddies said he didn't like the series because it was "just a bunch of meatheads shooting and blowing up shit with no discernible plot whatsoever." I think I'll send this video his way. 🤭

I’ve been a fan of the Gears of War franchise since E3 2005 when it was first announced. I was 25 when it finally released, and I was absolutely hooked.
I’ve read the novels, comics, and of course played the games. This is a fantastic “CliffNotes” of the known story so far. Having it all brought together in chronological order is absolutely incredible. Massive, massive thanks for putting this together, Gaming Henry!
