  • Choosing the right door when developing with the XR Interaction Toolkit can be a bit of a pain. Do you want a door that opens up when the player enters an area? Or do you want a door that the player can grab the handle and push open? I say! Why not both!?!
In this two-part tutorial series, I'll be teaching you how to make a Grab Interactable door but also how to animate that door once your player has reached a certain threshold.

Part 1: Grab Interactable Door: Step-by-step instructions on implementing a door that players can physically interact with by grabbing and pushing/pulling.
Part 2: Automatic Door Animation: How to fix the dreaded door flying around when you grab a handle and walk away and how to set up an automatic door that animates open when the player reaches a specific area, including setting up triggers and animations within Unity.

Awesome design thinking as usual, I was dealing with this yesterday, so perfect timing. I have always found the opening of doors a little janky, will try this method over the weekend. Keep up the awesome tutes mate :)

Part 2 I hope will resolve some of the jankiness. I may have overthought this while thing, but I think it feels better!

Great video, thanks! Say, would you happen to know how to open doors that have gas springs? Especially how to do the gas spring animation / functionality work properly?

I've never done one myself, but I'd probably just find a gas spring door and record it with my phone. Then just try to animate/code similar behavior from the video.
