  • "Discover Kyushu Express 36 plus 3" runs on different routes from Thursday to Monday, going around Kyushu. I tried the Friday route from Kagoshima-chuo to Miyazaki.
After arriving in Miyazaki, I took a brand new ferry to Kobe

That train stop moment melted my heart. How adorable and sweet of those people to welcome train riders on their break and serve food and drinks and even wave them goodbye and holding signs in the rain. What an amazing bunch of people. This video was great already but that part really elevated it for me.

They're doing it for money not out of kindness. They set up booths to sell stuff. This train is an economic bonus for a lot of these small communities.

For anyone who does not know Japanese numbers: 3 is pronounced “san” and 9 is pronounced “kyu”. So 39 can be read san-kyu which is similar to how a native Japanese speaker would say “thank you” (unless they have learned to pronounce the fricative th sound which is not used in Japanese.)

But they are so soothing and relaxing, like taking a sleeping pill before going to bed, which I do often, to enjoy them before such.
