"I already had dinner" is the most disappointing thing I've ever seen in an STJ video, but the news that you have a new food channel more than made up for it!
It looks like you are the only one on the ferry ! The ship looks good for 35 years old . I enjoyed the trip “in spirit” - thank you for sharing this interesting and somewhat relaxing adventure 😂👍💕
@@metrickarma- There's a good side and not so good side to that level of homogeneity. Having lived in Japan for many years, I have witnessed and experienced both. Japan and the Koreas are the most homogenous countries in the world. Racial politics can be complicated and nasty in these countries, where nationalism and ethnicity have at times gone hand in hand.
Actually, the 'jet engine' AC sounds kind of nice, depending on how noisy the ship is..sounds like it provides a lovely white noise if you were planning to sleep most of the time through the trip.
Agreed. A nice mini-retreat from the hectic pace of daily life. I really enjoyed the early-morning ferry dock footage. It’s soundtrack of gently lapping harbor waters is incredibly relaxing. 🌊
Nice ferry--it has a 'utilitarian' feel, rather than a luxury, cruise ship feeling, and it seems smaller. Neat that there was a traditional, Japanese style lounge (mats, no chairs). I like it.
I am always so grateful to be able to experience somewhere else from where I am sitting now thru your videos. It's always delightful. Thanks so much for this.
If the ship is not busy I still don't understand them not moving you for free to a nicer cabin. If it's empty that would be great customer service. Thank you once again for taking us along on your journeys and taking the time to describe everything for us.
Here in the Phils, our ferries are usually 40+ years old ferries from Japan. There'd be slight refurbishments here and there, like attaching seats/benches or bunk beds, removing rooms and so on. A lot of the signage on doors would be in Japanese. I've even gone on one where the toilet was a squat toilet. There'd also be big square or rectangular shaped rust spots randomly on the hallway floors, and I used to wonder what could've stood there for a long time that was that big. Probably the vending machines. A lot of these ferries smell really musty, especially the ones with old carpets, or smelled like cigarette smoke. It's different from company to company, a few care more than the others. Thanks to your channel, I could see what our ferries used to look like before. This one though, is the closest to the ones we have here. The other videos look too fancy 😆
@@cruxader27 yes. But a lot of those acquired during the 90's were built during the 60's and 70's (ex: maharlika dos/Cinco, millennium, etc.) and they still run to this day. When I was a kid, they used to break down all the time.
This was a very cool video! It would be great to see more of these older, less popular ferries. Some of the fancy cabins you've tried are almost like hotel rooms, this cabin really felt like a ship :) :)
Your videos are masterpieces of silent, reflective solitude. I have always hated traveling precisely because it is inevitably dehumanizing - crowded, noisy, unclean, and harsh. I have no idea how you arrange it, but your trips seem like heaven by comparison.
Love the videos, it would be cool to see you walking around Japan once you got off the ferry. Maybe that would be a cool second channel if you wanna keep this one just about travel :)
For 1987 that is really impeccable. Dedication to cleanliness and the attention to detail is as always, immaculate. They say cleanliness is closer to holiness.
Very relaxing voyage! Even though the ship didn't have many amenities it was quiet, clean, and got you to your destination without delay. That's a win in my book. Excited about your food channel! Hopefully one will be about curry around the country! 😊
Well done for getting a full video with interesting content from a deserted ferry with next to no facilities aboard!. The curry drink choice was brave btw!.
I’ll be on an overnight ferry in two weeks time and I’ve been used to ferries all my life, well I’m not dead yet but you get my meaning 😇, so they’re not a novelty for me but a means of travel I have to use to access another part of our country, I know that there’s millions of people who have never used ferries to travel and your posts give people an insight into how ferries operate and the sleeping arrangements for everyone,s particular budget, great post
That was a very good looking ship. Which I refuse to call old, as it is 2 years older than me... The air conditioning on that cabid did sound like a jet engine!! So loud!
if 35 is old - what am I 😂🤣 oh wait - I am old (62) - as much as I enjoy all “Solo’s” adventures - I find myself shaking my head after seeing that dining room and asking WHY 😂🤣
Another relaxing trip. Thank you. I've walked that tunnel under the Kanmon Strait, from Kyushu to Honshu (elevator lift at both ends feels like 'how deep is this') then stayed in a hostel overlooking the strait. Back then the bridge seemed more lit up at night, with so many ships passing through. Took the small day ferry from Hiroshima-Kure-Matsuyama, but the large overnight ferries look like a relaxing trip and bed for the night.
I am literally obsessed with watching these ferry rides! I've never had the itch to travel outside the US but these are making me want to go to Japan JUST to take a few of these ferry trips!
I prefer grapefruit chuhai, lemon is a bit to sour. I remember buying the grapefruit chuhai from a vending machine thinking it was lemonade. My friends like "you know that is alcohol?". I'm like "what?.. I got it from a vending machine".
Ah, Matsuyama. That was one of the destinations I had planned to go as a tourist back in July 2020, before the borders slammed shut. I was planning on the non-forgotten ferry though; the regular high-speed ferry from Hiroshima. I probably won't get there this year... But I'll aim for 2023. Only three years late. But better late than never!
This ferry is about as old as some of the Washington state ferries. It looks well cared for. I’m not sure how I missed this video, but I found it at a good time. I’m recovering from a medical incident, so this is something good to watch and relax with. Thank you for taking us all on your trips!
Yes! I am so excited about the food channel. I would love to see local landmarks as well, but I am sure you are already busy enough. I so enjoy your channel. Maybe one day, I can visit Japan. 😊 🤗
Konnichiwa 👍 from Australia🇦🇺 Arigato for sharing your video. Inside the ferry, in the corridors to the rooms, it looks like a hospital! Very clean but not very colourful. It is so interesting seeing the different kinds of ferries. 💖 From Lynne
This is great. I watch all your ferry videos but now know to seek out your food videos on your other channel. I’ve taken the Tokyo to Tokushima ferry and loved it. Cheaper than Bullet Train and includes a bed in shared accommodation. Like you, I was the only person in my room. When travel starts again I will try to do a ferry tour of Japan. Thanks to you I will contribute to the local economy while having a great adventure! Cheers!
I took this ferry several times. They have arcade machines and also first class rooms. The food on here sucks but it's pretty cheap. They turn the lights off at around 11 and turn back on at 5. You can sleep in or leave when the ferry arrives... Not that you can sleep unless you get drunk... It's pretty loud. You can also take your car of bicycle.
I think the remodel was just to beige up the ship! You've had small rooms before but you really have to leave if you want to sit up! Everything is nice and clean and the view leaving port was so pretty! Thanks again for taking me along!!
It looked like a relaxing travel, only a bit lonely! It's a good thing that your shared cabin was empty though, I guess you could sleep with the courtains opened and the bed didn't feel that small!
The Galaxy Express figures on the bench were a nice touch. Everything is so clean, it's nice to see a crew take pride in their ship. And those vending machines!
"Wait a minute. Do I look suspicious? ... No, I just look handsome."
Adorable! 😀 Thank you for another entertaining video trip! 💜
Suspiciously handsome.
I saw on the can “curry soup”…..
"I already had dinner" is the most disappointing thing I've ever seen in an STJ video, but the news that you have a new food channel more than made up for it!
Actually a good move, looks like vending machines are the only choice on this spartan ride.
“Do I look suspicious?……No, I just look handsome” …I love it !!..👀😂🤣
😅 His sense of humor is great! 😎✌🏼
Too funny!!!!🤣🤣
"My buttocks confirmed it"

Alexa, ask Sleep Sounds to play “Japanese ferry AC”
@@jasonlescalleet5611 lol
I like ship noise.
@@elonmust7470 That works too..my thought was if the room was too insulated from the ship noise, that AC unit would work just as well. :-)
True, but if you have sea sickness it’s the worst noise in the world.
Thank you for showcasing some of Japan’s more obscure ferry routes; they deserve more attention and love from tourists
There’s something remarkably cool about traveling by ship.
The food porn was lacking, I can hardly get wood over vending machine slop.
Not so much radiation as being at altitude 😂
Agreed. A nice mini-retreat from the hectic pace of daily life. I really enjoyed the early-morning ferry dock footage. It’s soundtrack of gently lapping harbor waters is incredibly relaxing. 🌊

Oh good, a new trip! I’m going to get my coffee and sit back and enjoy it.
I just got into my bed with heated blanket, I’m all toasty warm & ready. I have a headache & this is just what I need 😀

Maritime authority in the Philippines no longer allow shipping companies to acquire used ship more than 20 years of age.
