It was really sweet how you complemented the blanket for keeping so many people warm instead of complaining about getting a worn out old blanket. Got me right in the feels, it did.
This is one of the things I love about this and a lot of other Japanese content channels- there is such an attitude of positivity, community, responsibility. The blanket comment was a perfect representation of how lovely a community and space it is 🤗
The hallway was a bit creepy, but at least we didn’t hear “sunflower” sung over and over! The beautiful sunrise made up for it.
Ha, I had that thought too. "The tinkly background music makes this even more eerie... but imagine if it was the Ferry Sunflower theme song."
@@ZGryphon omg I was just going to say that! :)
Lol true. When I read 'creepy' in the video title the Sunflower song immediately came to my mind
Sunflower... Sunflower.... 🤪
@@imaramblins 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It has a "hospital at 4am" feel to it. Keep up the wonderful videos!
This feels like a creepy hospital that would keep a pig man in their care.
I love walking around hospitals at 4am and then taking oxygen masks off 90year old patients and watch the nurses freak out at 2hours later.
@@steverogers7601 At least there's no chance of a jumper hitting your car in a perfect parking spot.
@@chinaman1 That’s pretty sick. I hope you’re kidding.
@@justmeeagainn oh man I hope I'm nope. It's even better if it's those poor people hospital where the 90year olds are all on gurney along the corridor. It's like a kill streak!
Your comment about the blanket was truly amazing. I loved the reference to “history” rather than dismissing the blanket as just old. It shows what a wonderfully kind soul you have.
Yes, that was one of my favourite parts of the video. Such a nice sentiment!
Never mind how many Ferals were under it 😁
I usually thank God or whoever watches over me for keeping me warm at night. I never thought to compliment the blanket itself. "Good job." You're right, that was cool!
You weird. You have no idea where that blanket came from nor how many times it’s been used, it’s definitely not new
I'm glad you mentioned history. I've served on old ships and there's a character that you can feel when you're on them. So much has gone on on those ships. The food seemed pretty good considering it was obvious that the budget for things like maintenance have been cut, so the one for food probably was as well. That ship was once the newest and finest.
I wonder if they cut the maintenace because they knew she was going to be scrapped? Most ships get reused in less rich countries so it would seem that if she was going to be reused a bit of white paint here and there would have been sensable.
@@stevewhitcher6719
That could be it, but, many who buy ships like this for re-use don't worry about some more-or-less cosmetic rust, since they're going to makeover the ship and re-paint it to suit them. And, the worse it looks, the cheaper they can get it. I'm an old Navy man, and rust on a ship just gets me. ;)
It's not old though.... Early 90's at most. It's just so outdated, as the styling wasn't even contemporary for the time either. At no point in its life was that the newest or finest ship on the seas. That interior has never seen a lick of maintenance either, it was never cut.
Ever seen a ghost?
@@stevewhitcher6719 the ship isn’t that old and as for less rich countries Japan is one of the wealthiest most developed nations in the world. They are by no means a poor country.
Anybody else love the deserted feel of these travelogues? It really invokes a sense of introspection instead of a constant distraction by the sea of humanity.
Also the fantasy that the whole world exists to service just one consumer... ah, life could be a dream.
Until you get so lonely you end up chatting with the buffet cook for an hour..lol. Deserted is nice for a while..but a pleasant traveling companion is worth gold.
Truer words were never spoken.
@@Nightbird. Thanks for mentioning; i so agree.
I liked the phrase, you can feel the history in the blanket. It did it's function well. So did the ship for that matter. Honoring service, very thoughtful.
I love that you turned a chicken meal into an adventure involving a ship, a bus, a train and an airplane. Thank you for sharing your love of travel.
It opens up the old question, "Why did the chicken cross the road?" to all sorts of new and intriguing answers.😁
"This pillow is like a sand bag" was such a perfect summary of disappointment, I felt bad about laughing. But I did anyway, because it was so well-timed. :)
Your positive attitude, warm appreciation and good humor make it a pleasure to follow your travels. This older ferry was just as interesting as the newer ones!
Japan the only place in the world where the displayed food and the actual food actually match :)
I lived in Kobe for years, and always wondered about that ferry. Never had any need to go to Miyazaki so never travelled on it, but I used to watch it docking in Kobe regularly. What struck me most was the high speed at which it approached the dock, and yet it always stopped and tied up perfectly.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride :)
Love traveling with you to the different areas and your sense of humor. Can't wait for our next trip.
That's such a sweet way to talk about an old blanket. "I feel the history in it. It must have warmed a lot of people."😇😸
I really enjoy your videos since I'm disabled and don't get out much anymore. I really love that you don't add narration and crappy music like so many do! Tha ambient sounds od the trip are all that's needed (and the subtitles ,of course)
15:45 The reddish reflection of the sun in the sea, the color of the water combined with the clouds make a fantastic setting, what a beautiful sight 🤗
Reminds me of a 1980 Mitsubishi built car ferry still in service in the Aegean. It is MS Prevelis of ANEK line, currently the only car ferry ferrying between Crete, Rhodes, Santorini, Milos and Piraeus. Old school rustic and rusty ferry still very functional and if you love Miyazaki Express you will love Prevelis. 🚢
That's modern for Greece 👉🇬🇧👈👉🇬🇷👈
“I can feel the history in it.” Not sure if that’s a good thing for a shared blanket. 😆
Washed out body fluids, lol
@@heru-deshet359 Hopefully!!
I could feel the itchiness in it too!
@@susanashcroft2674 it certainly looked itchy along with well worn but not in a good way 😆
It could be worse. "I can feel the life in it."
When you went outside on the ferry and said open view and panned down to the rusty floor I wasn't sure how much of an open view you might get!! I love watching your channel, thank you for allowing us to come a long with you on your journey.
Your humorous apprectiation for older and under serviced ships gives them a new life.
Loved seeing the tugboat. It's not often you get to see them pushing a ferry around. To me that ship looked sad. All old and rusty, scratched and worn out paint. I bet she was beautiful when she first went into service.
It's a time capsule to a different era. Very rare to see this sort of thing, at least here in Europe (dunno how it in Japan or elsewhere so don't quote me on anything) - a lot of ferries of the Miyazaki Express' vintage and even older are a lot better kept here. Bretagne (1989), Stena Gothica (1982), Isle of Inishmore (1997), Wawel (1979), etc. are some that spring to mind.
"Here is the blanket. I feel the history in it" is a very polite way of putting it 🙂
STJ, thanks for taking us on one of the last journeys this ferry will be making. Rather worn and old-fashioned at 26 years old, it wasn't all that bad, huh? Creepy, yes! Teehee! Hope you will take us on the "new" Miyazaki Express (deluxe cabin) later this Spring. 👍❤😎
All, ferry days are numberd they won't be around much longer once all of the new bridges are complete.
@@catsbyondrepair
Not necessarily. Ship transport has its advantages.
@@DinnerForkTongue none at all
The blanket. I feel the history in it.
🤣👌 Sounds comfy. Lol
It's an old ship, but looked spotlessly clean. The food looked simple, but very good.
I'd love to take this ferry. :)
Don't know how you deal with those massive crowds! Truly appreciate your videos. I'm curled up in my bed living thru you!
This reminded me a lot school dorms. It's definitely serviceable for an overnight ferry
It seems to me that it would be quite affordable traveling Japan by staying on a different ferry each night instead of staying in hotels. :)
great idea! 👍( ͡❛ ͜ʖ ͡❛ 👍
genius!
that's how I'm planning to travel through Japan if I ever get to go there.
Japanese businessman hotels are very inexpensive. You can find a good room with breakfast starting in the $65 usd range and up. Daiwa is a good hotel chain for this.
if you defeat the emperor, you gain the empire. far easier to do .
A bowl of rice always gets a 'like' from me, especially a large rice. Now I'm hungry again. Brilliant videos.
It's funny. The ship was built in 1996 and due to be retired. In Ontario there is a ferry that runs between Tobermory and Manitoulin Island called the Chi-Cheemaun. It was built in 1974. I don't think there are any plans to retire or replace it. I imagine its a difference of a ship running in salt water vs in the Great Lakes, and much shorter journey's of
@Infrared73 There are many ferries built in ‘76 still running out here on the west coast. Most of BC Ferries fleet are from the mid-late 70’s still going from Vancouver to the island or around the little islands. I think the interior lake ferries are about the same age.
@@dianesheldon2591 I was just thinking this! I remember the Queen of Surrey being new - I thought it was in the 70s but Wikipedia insists it was 1980 - and it’s still going strong.
Yup . Nice to see a fellow Canadian and from Ontario too.
It’s good to ride the older ferries before they are decommissioned. The sunrise was absolutely beautiful!
Happy travels and may you have a newer blanket and warm chicken on your next voyage!
I love the way you are always eating. It makes me feel hungry too!
No zombies, but I saw an exeggutor Pokémon on the ship. Thanks for another lovely trip.
Thank you once again for another wonderfully relaxing informative video. You may have traveled from Kobe to Miyazaki but you took me on a journey from my couch here in Vancouver Canada all the way to Japan. I've learned more about Japan from your videos than I have from any other source. Can't wait to visit your Country some day. Cheers!
Wow! Usually these overnight ferries don't have windows. It's so nice to have a window AND a bed!!
Thanks for filming and by the way it's a great touch that you name everything that is on your plate/tray.
I have never travelled luxury class, but after watching this video I realise I have never travelled this type of second class either. Over the years I have taken many overnight ferries, always enjoyed a private cabin (shared with family at times) and mostly (if not always) with private toilet and shower too. The concept of the public bath house is not something I have every considered. This ship looks very functional, the furniture being fit for purpose but nothing more. Retirement cannot come too soon! Thanks for sharing.
The encouragement you showed the blanket (‘good job’ *pat pat*) was more than most employers show their workers 😂
First! Love your videos. You inspire me to visit Japan. Keep up the great work!
I used to work on cruise ships. It was great to see different places and people all the time. Thanks for sharing the trip!
Heck, looks like that ship is older than you are!! But hey, you got a fully belly, a dry, warm bunk and it sure beats walking!! 😃 😃 😃
3:00 like the old oceanliners! Very beautiful! Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
I get excited with the delicious food and beautiful sunrise!
Your ferry videos are not only very enjoyable, they also give me some hope for humanity. The gentle, intelligent style is much appreciated.
Great video! This ship makes you more appreciate the newer, cleaner, well maintained ships! Still.. it got you to where you wanted to go! Thank you for bringing us along on your journeys!!
I LOVE the way you film each and every detail of your ferry trip. It makes the video feel real to the viewer. Excellent work, many thanks from the UK.
"Adventure knows a billion forms, and many of them are mundane."
Sometimes you need a trip that's a little on the middling side to really appreciate the nice ones. I don't know why, but the meals had kind of a 'school cafeteria' feeling to them. At least the one in the end seemed nice!
Thanks for the trip ☺️ I enjoyed it .
after reading the words “a little creepy” I held my breath until after you got off in the morning - glad you survived 😂🤣 hope the chicken at the airport was as yummy as it looked 🤗
Imagine this video turns out to be a found footage movie
@@aslamnurfikri7640 stay tuned to this channel 😂🤣
I was imagining Godzilla appearing from the sea. 🙂
I thought the food looked like leftovers, warmed up.
@@rickstalentedtongue910 The beef stew looked good but the fish looked dried out.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 pillow like a sand bag!!!!🤣🤣🤣 I'm dying here🤣🤣🤣 and the bed dimensions are very close to a coffin, for me😂😂
I'm really surprised they haven't drastically lowered their prices. They've got to run all those facilities even if no one's there. Some amount of income has got to be better than none (but, they probably make their money on the freight traffic, not the passengers).
And, I guess the lack of profit shows in the lack of paint.
He had seen a poster announcing a new ferry in April ‘22.
Subsidies. These ferries aren't for tourists. They aren't paid for by fares. They are paid for by the government because sea bridges and tunnels for trucks in a country with the geography of Japan would be astronomically and prohibitively expensive, to the point of being impossible.
@@leothompson2777 No wonder, it often feels like this guy is the only passenger on board these ferries.
@@Fishfingers232 He had two very quiet roommates.
@@CraftyZanTub I admire how quietly the Japanese men fap fap fap...lol.
I took a ferry from Hamamatsu-Cho to Yoron Island ( north of Okinawa), back in 87. 2 days each way + 2 nights in Yoron. A cheap way to spend my 1st Golden Week in Japan. I had a great time with the collection of odd-ball eccentrics, who were on the ferry. We shared food, drink, and played cards for hours at a time.
Somebody on the ships kitchen likes their job. Different artwork on the restaurant chalk board sign for each meal .
Wow, that is a little creepy! Really gives you that “horror RPG set in an abandoned hospital” theme! The music also adds to it, especially at 4:03
At least the rest of the trip looked fairly enjoyable! Pretty much everything from 5:06 to 5:30 is wholesomeness at its finest!
On a side note, it really must be great for the staff on the ferry’s to see people enjoying their meals!
I really like the scenes on the open deck, makes me feel like I was actually there feeling the wind and watching the view
just got my 3rd COVID vaccine (booster) and feel sick and tired. Can't sleep well. These videos really help my mind relax atleast a bit more than just laying down in complete darkness. This is wonderful, Thanks again. x
Getting to see the sunrise off the ferry looks so nice, though it certainly looks windy! 🌬 🌞
I really enjoy your channel. The style in which you create your videos actually makes me feel as if I'm making the trip.
Yeah, this ferry has seen a few miles. But it didn't seem THAT creepy. :) Nice video as always. Thanks for taking us along on your trips.
I love the comment “my secret base”. Wouldn’t we have all loved to have a bed curtained off like that as a child. To read, play with toys, hide out from our siblings. Such fun it would have been.
You meal picks were educational for us. We had to look up Takoyaki and Konjac. That Konjac has good health benefits! RIGHT ON DUDE! We love your channel. This ship IS creepy though.
Thank you for getting up so early so we all could enjoy the sunrise. I just watched a video this week about how lost items get returned to their owner very easily. Your country is so honest that even cash gets returned to the owner. I hope one day to experience your lovely country for myself.
Wow, that phone room and button-dial payphone sure is a bit of history! Who else remembers the days before cell phones were common?
Yay! A new video! ❤️👍🏻
I haven't figured out which I like better, watching you eat(I'm on a diet LOL)or the great views
I didn't know how much I missed your videos until now :D
Ghost ship lol. Because of my watching your videos, I found some Japanese Curry Sauce and made some at home with beef chunks. So good. Interesting older ship.
beautiful sunrise!
Boy, this old girl is really showing her age! I'm so used to seeing these ferries, even the older ones, in much better condition. You will have to take the trip again in April, when the new ship is ready.
the newer ferries look like a lot like cruise liners - these older ones look exactly like what they are ferries 😳🥴 yep times have changed
I don’t know how to explain, but there is just something so peaceful & relaxing about this particular ferry ride.
I love watching all your adventures. Thank you for adding all the little details I really enjoyed them.😊
I really enjoy your videos. I may never be able to travel again. So your videos bring that to me. I like that you describe everything. Thank you. Please keep going.
The stewed beef looked fantastically delicious. As for the ferry, its lived a long and busy life for the past 25+ years. Enjoyed taking the trip with you.
That beef stew was da bomb! 😋 I want a plate of it so bad.
Bummer on the curry rice tho...
@@lilbatz his description of the curry rice said it all = it had a familiar flavour 😳🥴 ouch not a very good recommendation 😂🤣

Your videos are wonderful, the viewer really gets a sense of coming along with you on your trips. There is always a feeling of calm regardless of your mode of travel. There is a peaceful tranquility that surrounds you even when there are others present. To be able to travel as you do in Japan looks very relaxing. Although once this pandemic is well behind us, I can imagine more people doing the same. It is so nice to see a country where people are so respectful of each other. If we never get to travel to Japan at least we can travel there via your great videos. Thanks...
This video reminds me of my last time going on ferry when I was a student, though I did not pay for a room (was poor), just had light sleep on the lounge chair. But the excitement is the same, getting on the deck was fun.
That was almost 10 years ago lol, time flies
I love your videos. I am elderly, disabled and housebound and will never see these places so seeing them through your eyes is a gift. Thank you.
Am the fourth one to comment. I hit "like" although I still have to watch the video, am sure it will be great ! Thank STJ -san
Yeah, she's showing her years a little. The new ones are like cruise ships, that was a real ferry. That beef stew looked amazing!
Thank you for taking us on your trip. I hope the chicken was worth it?😉 The price seemed to be a little expensive for the sleeping accommodations, but the on board food was cheap compared to the USA. The beef stew looked good. A question about the truck drivers: do they sleep in their trucks or do they have sleeping areas on the ships? Do the drivers pay for their passage or do they drive for companies that pay ? It would be interesting to know more about the truck use of ferries, since they seem to be the primary customers, at least in the wintertime. Thank-you!
That hallway looked like something out of "The Shining", but you can't beat that nighttime view of Kobe! Beautiful!
Food in Japan is the best I’ve ever tried (ans I’m Italian so…), but man you eat A LOT of food! Respect! Btw love your videos, they bring back good memories.
Japanese food is always pleasant but rarely delicious. Chinese food is often delicious.
At the end of the day, it’s a moving rack with accommodations. If you’ve been traveling all day, this is just what you need.
I like the creepy vibes! Miyazaki looks like a beautiful city as well.
Thanks for taking us to another ferry journey. Safe travel and can't wait for your next video!
Before the ferry is decommissioned some director should shoot a horror movie in it. Think it would be awesome.
Not everybody likes horror. I have enough of it when I have stomach trouble.
Ferry to Busan?
Japan takes care of their equipment, so they are not decommissioned. They are sold to countries like the Philippines to live out their life. Japan also sells their multi-cabs to the Philippines. They give them a facelift and an overhaul and they're good for 10 more years.
Miyazaki looks very tropical. Very beautiful. Thank you again for your video.
Miyazaki Japan, tropical? Wha????? (palm to face)
I absolutely love your content. You have created some of the most relaxing and peaceful videos on youtube. There are a number of channels like yours, but Solo Travel Japan is absolutely the best one! You should set up a Patreon - we'd love to contribute to your journeys!
There’s nothing like seeing the sun rise at sea!
The only food aboard the ship that looked tasty was the beef stew, I think it was the lighting that made all the other stuff unappetising. But the chicken at the airport looked absolutely delicious, so much that my tummy started making noises..😸
your videos are soo soothing . I especially love the train rides. Thank you for making such fun videos and taking us on your trips with you
I would have saved this video for Halloween, give it that special spooky holiday feel to it 🎃🧟♂️🦇🎃
Just like I was there. From the video the ship looked in good shape for being 4 months away from being replaced. Looks like you had the ship to yourself. I would have been in trouble inside of an hour. "Hey, let's check out the engine room". Great job. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
While it's always fun to see/tour the new ships, it's also nice to see the older ships before they potentially leave service, so Thank You for sharing the journey! Do you know if when the new ship enters service in April, will the older Miyazaki Express be retired?
Love these videos. So interesting and so relaxing. Your humor translates without being spoken also. Love it! Japan has some pretty cool stuff!
Watching your videos fulfills a deep ambition of mine. Someday, post pandemic, I also want to travel via ships and just experience being on the sea, leaving behind all my worries on land.
That was Exeggutor painted on that wall! LOL couldn't miss that while I'm playing Pokemon!
