This is what Sega should’ve done with the Sonic Origins compilation. Instead they put minimum effort and expect people to fork over cash. I looks so good that it’s hard to believe it’s a fan project. Truly outstanding work. ❤🔥
I did actually really like Sonic Origins, mainly because of the hundreds and hundreds of brand new levels they made and put into it which means it isn't just playing the same old games over again but I widescreen, cos I could do that already with emulators and so on. No, they actually did make hundreds of new levels with the same assets for it. But yeah, they could have had these kind of upscaled remakes of the games available as an option too, and they wouldn't have to spend a lot of time and money trying to find the right people to do it, instead just get the people who make these kinds of romhacks and remakes for free as fans, and pay them to make official ones, i.e. exactly what they did for Sonic Mania which was just to get the best romhackers to make the new Sonic game. The most important thing though was the games preservation. Flashy upscaled HD remakes of these games should _NEVER_ be _REPLACEMENTS_ for the original games. No, they should be alternate _OPTIONS_ you can choose to play. The original games must be preserved for the sake of history, too. Because video games are an art form, and so preserving the history of the art form is just as important as, for example, preserving and restoring centuries old paintings is. So yeah at least Sonic Origins exists in terms of games preservation i.e. art preservation. But they could have easily had each game remade in HD like with this fan remake of Sonic 2, and allowed you to switch back and forth from original graphics to new graphics on the fly, JUST like they did for other classic Sega game remakes that they released, like Wonderboy in Monster World, and Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX. If they could do it for those games, then why not also for the Sonic games? Probably because they're lazy and they knew people would buy the collection anyway. But yeah at least they had the hundreds of new levels added for each game. That must have taken a good deal of time to make, even though the levels are all quite short.

This is perfect and beautiful and for just a few minutes brought me back to the snowy Christmas of my youth when I received Sonic 2 in my stocking and learned to share my Sega with my little sister. We got along and were kind to each other for an entire hour...before she got tired of being Tails. I told her to go play with her Barbie and get off my back, it was a great day.

Love the way the camera can't keep up with Sonic's movements at times. It helps give a better sense of that classic Sonic speed! Fantastic work (hope you all get hired by Sega too).
Wow, seriously impressive. Can't say I've ever seen anything quite like this before; it's how the game looked to my young mind in '92, but somehow beyond that even. The detail is so high it's almost lost while Sonic and Tails are in motion, but that is not a gripe at all! Imagine remaking other 16-bit side scrollers in the same manner.
Exactly! You're pulling the words out of my mouth. This is the way to remastering/remaking 8/16-bit games (also like they did with Wonderboy, Streets of Rage 4, Alex Kidd).
There are so many games from the 8-bit and 16-bit era that I would love to see a remaster like this, a solid remaster, keeping to the core of what made the original great. This Sonic 2 remaster actually looks like one of the best I've seen, something for others to learn from.
I'm not usually into fan games, but as far Fan builds go, this one actually seems to properly complement the source material, instead of over saturating it with ideas that wouldn't make sense.
As far as I can see it's a pretty faithful remake of the original with a few slight touches like the end of level animations and a slight reworking of the level music.

Fantastic work👏 And just one last thing on the music, love that each sub-stage has a different version of the of the same basic version.
You should play the 2 Forbidden Planet games. The first one began as a Sonic romhack but they turned it into a new unique game that just plays a lot like sonic. And the 2 one is an even better sequel to that. They have really gorgeous modern HD art/graphics just like this HD remake of Sonic 2 has. They are absolutely wonderful fantastic games, made by some of the best Sonic romhackers out there. You should also play the Spark the Electric Jester games. Hey, as long as the physics are the same! It looks great though, and the music is fantastic. I especially like that the tracks are slightly different in each act of each zone, much like Sonic Mania.
This is some top-notch stuff. Tails's victory animation and the Hill Top Zone 1 music stood out to me in particular as a nice touch and a superior cover, respectively.
Why does the motion look so slow sonic used to run so fast the screen couldn't keep up. It's like the difference between Chung like and dhalsim on street fighters
This is so satisfying on so many levels! Not only does it look amazing... The sound track is dope AS! Great job to all involved! I only wish people like you would get the support you deserve to be able to design and release games that we would all love! I think a Sonic sequel that looked and played like this would be incredible with a few new mechanics and characters. Such a shame huge companies are churning out "other" stuff. Well done!
Would love it if Sega put even HALF the effort and love in their games as this. True it didn't get finished, but you can see how much effort was put in upscaling and polishing what is there.
@@_Galaxy_457 Your acting like this is going to make up for the Decade of bad Sonic games. You're wrong. Frontiers may be good, yes, but who's to say they will keep that up. Sega have a bad track record and a bad habit of letting fans down. Sega and Sonic team have a lot of making up to do. I hope they do come through, bit not getting my hopes up from one good game right now.
Been a while since I've seen an update on this project. Always amazes me that the fans do a better job with Sonic than Sega and the Sonic Team does. How hard would it have been for Sega to get with the developers of this and give them the funding to do Sonic Origins fulltime? I would have gladly paid $60 for Sonic Origins to look like this.
@HeHeLife Issue is mania is basically sonic CD. No innovation, it looks too old, the sound quality of the soundtrack is good, though in mania there are multiple paths and it is in widescreen.
Sega needs to hire these guys this version is a blessing in every way. I would gladly pay $50 for a remastered hd version. Mania did come close but not cool like this. The act 2 remixes was a nice touch like sonic 3
It was a small, but the one change I noticed was the day/night cycle between green hill and through chemical plant. Very nice touch. Started to make me think about an additional challenge of weather hazards in the game: sun melting things making it sticky, thunderstorms making it hard to stop and making it lethal to be in water during strikes, wind making sonic either slow down or speed up depending on direction, ice making sonic look for places to warm up like hot springs to go normal speed and blocking water paths. Not on the main game of course. Like a challenge mode for veteran players. Weather changes could make people take different paths to get away from certain weather.
This is what Sonic 4 SHOULD have been like. The attention to detail is phenomenal! Incredible.
Please don't bring back those memories and wasted cash... 💀💰
Sonic Mania is the true Sonic 4
I never played Sonic 4. Wasn't it like this? Then I'm glad I didn't waste my time.

Damn this looks FANTASTIC!! this is what I'd expect when I see a classic sonic game remake, a game from my childhood never look so better! Thank you!!
Music sounds excellent !
Love that Chemical Plant Zone OST
Holy cow that intro. The animation; the music; bloody brilliant.
This is a absolutely perfect. Smooth, and retains the traditional style.
Wow this is so awesome! Very well done!
I wish I could play the whole game in HD
This is some top-notch stuff. Tails's victory animation and the Hill Top Zone 1 music stood out to me in particular as a nice touch and a superior cover, respectively.
That hill top zone music is so good! The sax is perfect
Why does the motion look so slow sonic used to run so fast the screen couldn't keep up. It's like the difference between Chung like and dhalsim on street fighters
WAO, I'd like to play this game entirely just to see all the love you guys put into this project.
Play Sonic Mania.
@@Nickbaldeagle02 sonic mania to me is not like this. I prefer the original game play I'd just love to play with this more upgraded version
This is what the latest collection should look like. Amazing stuff!!
Wow, the music was captured and remade so well. Tthis play transported me back to 8 year old me. Amazing that you took the time to make this.
Wow, I downloaded the demo and it is AMAZING! Congratulations for the project!
Waited for the Emerald Hill theme to hit. Was not disappointed 🎧😍
Never realized the Genesis had this much potential! I still own mine I'll have to hook mine back up to play it. Loved Sonic 2 as a kid
This is not for Genesis
might as well get sonic mania on the switch if you got a switch
@@SwuadeTV sounds 👍. I still play the OG Sonic Games on the Sega Genesis especially Sonic 3 & Knuckles that's a great one!
@@mattmaverick703 yeah I wanted to as well was looking on ebay for a console but ended up going wit mega sg since it had hdmi and jus bought the carts
@@SwuadeTV not a bad choice 👍
it almost made me cry, this really masterpiece
This is so satisfying on so many levels! Not only does it look amazing... The sound track is dope AS! Great job to all involved! I only wish people like you would get the support you deserve to be able to design and release games that we would all love! I think a Sonic sequel that looked and played like this would be incredible with a few new mechanics and characters. Such a shame huge companies are churning out "other" stuff. Well done!
This is so freaking BEAUTIFUL! I'm not even playing right now and I'm giggling like a child!
Would love it if Sega put even HALF the effort and love in their games as this. True it didn't get finished, but you can see how much effort was put in upscaling and polishing what is there.
Frontiers exists
@@_Galaxy_457 We'll see if they have redeemed themselves when it comes out.
@@RedTygon It doesn't mean anything, lmao, you just need to see what they did to disprove your comment
Sprite art always wins for this 90s kid, but still, this is mighty impressive. Very well done
Uma obra de arte belíssimo.
obra prima
The playthrough of Chemical Plant act 2 was so stressful to watch 😅, seriously though this is incredible work! Amazing!
Remake that all Sonic real fans wanted!
Hope you guys will continue this for rest of the Sonic games such as Sonic 3 and Knuckles! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love this! great job guys!
The version HD looks better than the original version
WOOOO! That was awesome!. 😁🤘
Sega are losing some good amount of money by not creating official early Sonic remakes. You can do insane things in 2D realm nowadays
The best thing that has happened to Sonic, is having so devoted fans.
maravilloso!!, desde luego da gusto que hagan estas cosas!
