You don't have to put grease on the rail. It just collects more crap and makes it harder to clean.

Yep. Found that out. Lol live and learn.

Handy piece of equipment. I've been wanting to build one with a 3-point hitch. I don't like the cradle that one has though. I prefer an I-beam style because it's easier to clean off. Hope it gives you many years of service!

I looked at getting one with the 3 point hitch, but I don't think I'd like having to haul it around so much. where ever it went the tractor would have to be taken, versus I can pull this one with the truck or atv, etc. I guess I didn't pay enough attention about the I-beam setup. the reason I will do most splitting in the vertical position is due to bark piling up in the tray.

Yeah, I can understand wanting mobility. Any trees I need to split would be here on the farm anyway. Sounds like you got a good deal on it anyway.

I have one with mixed review. Engine died after 6 years and 80 cord. Replaced with cheap Harbor Freight no name motor and works fine. Always kept under cover. Purchased a tray which is very helpful. Anyway, the right wheel froze this spring. Just opened it up, pulled the bearing and absolutely NO GREASE. Thank goodness I don't drive it on the road. Very poor build/assembly quality. Purchased at Lowes. Tighten every single nut and bolt. Check fluid levels throughout. And, apparently you should also check to make sure there is grease in the bearings!

I see you figured out you have to give it a second for the valve to return the handle to the neutral position. ;)
It definitely pays to shop around and wait for deals, if you can. I've been wanting one for a couple of years now. Picked up the Black Diamond 25 ton unit from Rural King on Black Friday for $699.99. Works fantastic and an awesome deal!

Douglas Cooke sounds like a good deal. between me and my brother in law we've split about 8 cords. will split another 2 this weekend.

That was the price I paid for mine. 1,099. Mine has been a great splitter

Thanks for the video. Do you always shut the gas off to kill it? If so, why ? Also, do you still like it ? Should I buy it ? Finally - how's the rust. Thanks again.

I don't always shut the fuel off to turn it off. only when it's going to be stored for long periods. it keeps the fuel from gumming up in the carb. I really like this splitter. I actually just used it again 2 weeks ago and split a lot of wood. enough to fill up 3 racks. the rust hasn't been a problem. its was just surface rust anyway, just a bargaining chip to get a discount

I believe its a great buy for the price and think that even though its only the 22 ton model it hasn't had a problem splitting any of the oak or sweetgum I've put thru it. thanks for watching and hope this helps

You should get the 4-way wedge accessory from Dirty H T ‘s ....Much quicker splitting wood .

Thinking about buying one of these at Lowe's. Has it lasted you a while
without any problems? Not sure since its made in China, just curious
how long this thing lasts before I blow $900 on one. To me, that's a
    lot of money. Thanks.

Yes its been great. I did a bit of research before i decided on this one. i have used it 7 or 8 different times with total of about 10-15 hours. only problem i encountered was it was low on hydro fluid when I got it. Lowes assembled it, but they dont start them since they have no engine oil in them, but they did fill the res. to the fill line with hydro fluid. only problem with that is there are air pockets in the lines and cylinder. I ended up having to buy an extra gallon of hydro fluid. cost about $15.00

Cool thanks for the help. I won't mind buying the extra hydro fluid but that's good to know it needs to be topped off due to the lines not having any in them when its filled since they don't start them.

Great Splitter!!! Go to Gorillabac Log Lift and check out how to "Get Your Wood Up". The only tool that will pull, lift and position your wood.......... for splitting. Save your Back and let a Gorillabac do the work.

I don't like the design of that rail. Just a place to trap dirt, chips etc. I have had an MTD 20 ton about 30 years and it has a plain flat rail. I just use regular 30W motor oil to lube it. I relub it every 20-30 cycles.

That start up is no representation of the ease of srarting that Kohler. They start from the initial start in a jif.
