    Thanks! I’m an in home caregiver for an elderly couple! I got the model number of their toilet and ordered the part from Amazon prime. Fixed the problem so easily!! Yay!! Saved them from paying a repairman for a super easy job! Very empowering. 👍

    I ended up taking off that blue cap and just clearing the top of that idk what it is.. pump?? with my finger and the toilet stopped running.. 😮.. it’s been running so badly I would have to turn off the water after each flush. I’m hoping this will fix it 😬

      the main cause tends to always be the flapper in the example I shared. however should you still hear the water, there may be an indication that the tank valve is not regulating the water properly and adjustment may be enough or replacement. and you can buy a kit on amazon at amzn.to/4cGiMFt but also if the flapper you replaced does not work compatible because you did not find the exact fit then changing the tank flush valve amzn.to/45MNlqC keep in mind that without a perfect fit of the flapper then is not going to seal the water flow.

    • @MasterMindHandyMan
      @MasterMindHandyMan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      strange. the only thing I can suggest when changing the whole kit is tighting the bolts correctly. adjustment the valve pump properly. and attaching flapper to the drain evenly.

    I read my meter to monitor my water usage because I had a leak a while back and my water bill was huge. I did the reading on March14th and onApril17th. I used 5670 gallons of water and I'm single. And I was out of town 3 times. I turned off the water to my toilet yesterday and my tank was empty this am. My bowl was still full. I'm gonna try to get a flap installed. Thank you

      @MasterMindHandyMan so far so good. I've been monitoring my water everyday. If I had heard water running, I would have checked it out. I didn't except after flushing. This is my 1st house. I bought it in 2008. The thought of how much money I flushed literally down the toilet gives me a cold chill. My scariest moment was last summer. My usage was 36000. I live alone. I kept thinking it was because I do a load of laundry everyday , or because I take a tub bath every am. Or because I have a dishwasher. Now since I have been reading my meter EVERY day , I'm using about 600 gallons a week. Much better. Plus I retired so I don't do laundry or take a bath every day.

    Yup it was the flapper in my case as well. Holding it down stopped the draining and allowed the tank to fill up. In my case though it stayed down and didn't continue draining after. Although I probably should get a new one if this keeps happening frequently. Maybe it isn't the right size or something.

    Simple is always the easiest. First off, thanks for the video. Secondly folks, after trial and much error (on my part) I replaced my toilet innards, all except the damn flap. I mean, who would think that this 'simple' little piece of rubber holds a BIG key to "why does my water spontaneously come on, then go right back off". Five and a half minutes into this mans video explains it all. Well, for me at least. If you get the kit that comes with a flapper just change it, and don't assume that simple little rubber piece is insignificant. Thanks again for the video Bro.

    • @MasterMindHandyMan
      @MasterMindHandyMan  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am sorry the chain is not covered on the video. the idea is to measure the chain length from the flapper to the flush stick while resting normal not while is pulled. then hook the chain to the end of the rod without hanging much.

    • @Sofia-BizBuyer

      in most cases the universal models work. when you follow the size style which is what makes it compatible. the best approach is to pull your original flapper out and go to lowes or home depot and find a match or online to on amazon let say here amzn.to/45IZAVn and I find that fluidmaster is a top brand.

    What if I have an issue where water leaks from the tank due to the fill valve spewing water through the lid? Will this fix it?

    • @MasterMindHandyMan
      @MasterMindHandyMan  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      no. the tank valve is not related to the flapper function. if the water running comes from the valve to the left of the tank that you see on the video with the blue lid. then it means the pump is clogged inside and is not measuring the level of water right for it to stop it. I recommend changing out the tank valve.

    my tank isnt running water, but it sounds like its leaking from the pipes, and sounds like the neighbor is flushingt their toilet, far away. and my tanks water slowly goes down throughout the night, and by morning it wont flush because it doesnt have enough water in it, so i have to flush it twice to get it to fill up with water again., i replaced the flapper, but its still doing it.please help!

      Hey mate! They possibly could be a leak some where. My best bet is that you use some stain free dye so that it doesn’t corrode the gaskets and other silicone based parts in the tank. From there you could possibly find a leak in where it’s coming from. I’m studying plumbing and I learned this in my class today! Hope it helps! :)

    How do you stop water pump when the tank is full

    • @MasterMindHandyMan
      @MasterMindHandyMan  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the main cause tends to always be the flapper in the example I shared. however should you still hear the water, there may be an indication that the tank valve is not regulating the water properly and adjustment may be enough or replacement. and you can buy a kit on amazon at amzn.to/4cGiMFt but also if the flapper you replaced does not work compatible because you did not find the exact fit then changing the tank flush valve amzn.to/45MNlqC keep in mind that without a perfect fit of the flapper then is not going to seal the water flow.

      a flapper that is not compatible will cause this. the flapper must match the Toilet Flush Valve or it will leak. here is a kit I recommend amzn.to/3QzhsvS or this one amzn.to/3QzhJPq and both come with new flappers

      I had a toilet that used to hiss and bubble out the top of the fill tube. Sometimes adjusting the plastic height screw to the right of the fill tube would stop it, but it's probably getting gunked up and can't close properly.

    Dumb question: You said its not necessary to shut off the water to change the flapper. So you take off the flapper, take to home depot to hopefully match it with the correct flapper, all the while the water is still on at the toilet at home? Won't it be running the entire time one is at home depot? Anyone??? Thanks

    • @MasterMindHandyMan
      @MasterMindHandyMan  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      good questions. yes of course removing the flapper will cause the tank valve to run. ad assuming you are going up the street near by is ok to leave the tank and go gt a match. but if you driving 30 minutes to an hour away please close the water valve coming off the wall underneath toilet haha. please subscribe for future do it yourself videos

    Square model commade inside bowl water is leaking

    • @MasterMindHandyMan
      @MasterMindHandyMan  ปีที่แล้ว

      keep in mind that when parts inside a toilet tank begin to leak is due to corrosion which is not repairable because they do not come with rubber seals. unless is the valve which is does. in these examples when related to a bolt or a flapper etc. replace with new

    • @MasterMindHandyMan
      @MasterMindHandyMan  ปีที่แล้ว

      center piece where the flapper is connected to is also connected to the toilet. the rest of the parts inside the toilet tank are individually independent such as bolts and valves and flappers etc. so if you are getting a leak from the toilet side closer to the tank side. not obviously related to the valve or bolts connections. then you have a worned out rubber seal between tank and toilet and you need to take the entire tank out to replace. here is an example of what you need. amzn.to/3Q8PxkY

      good question. is obvious that this toilet is different than those you describe. but the idea of the solution is the same. if those toilet tanks use a flapper inside the tank then is a similar repair.

      Same. I got a universal flap that you can adjust to the unit model (hard for me since the model # got worn away and I had to do a lot of research). It still runs but when I play with that level thing he talked about it stopped. I may be a girl that's willing to do dyi stuff but am hesitant to mess with that.

      if the flapper you purchased is not compatible with the toilet flush valve then it will not work. and vice versa. here are some compatible products I recommend for replacing the flush valve or the water level valve. each come with the fitted flapper. amzn.to/3SqnOyK and this one amzn.to/40kc7vx
