Still pulling out my ps3 from time to time to play this game.. The sound track, the dirt, the mud, the fun, its really unique. I'm so sad evolution studio closed, I'm no car game fan but I love motorstorm and even drive club, the only two car games I ever bought and they both have that very unique touch.
One of the best arcade racing series ever. You really felt like you were part of a huge racing & music festival, especially with the awesome festival cinematics in the menus of the first two games. I really wish they'd bring this series back or remaster them on some way, they were doing it long before Forza Horizon was.
True, the only game that really delivered was killzone 2. The only area it didn't hit the mark was facial detail and animation,hair.....but the rest i believe they pulled it off. The physics in that game was just mind bending, every time you played through a level it played different.
This game reminds me of how fun online used to be! Before the PS+ requirement, when online was relatively new to us that we just enjoyed meeting new folk and playing the game! Good ol’ times!
This trailer was from 2006 and many thought it was rendered in real time running on a PS3. It's 2021 and we are still quite far from this level of absurd detail, even on PC.
I think we could make this game rn with series x or ps5 if it ran at 720p with the same texture quality, it would just have to have an advanced destruction system
We could easily do a much higher level of detail even on last gen hardware, at least as far as the vehicle models, textures and particles effects are concerned. The problem is that the small details that make this trailer awesome would also be detrimental to the gameplay experience. You don't want dirt covering most of your screen or your screen shaking every time you ride over a bump, it would stop being fun really quickly.
Fingers crossed for this kind of physics and graphics for PS5. Edit 2021 Dec- The Matrix Awakens demo matches this more or less right now IMO, they just need to do some perf tuning.

Yeah sure the game doesn't look like this graphics wise... but gameplay wise what you're seeing is pretty much what you're getting. As someone who's actually played motorstorm as well the whole series this trailer is probably the most accurate of all of the trailers released back then. Even though this is the "bullshot" I can't deny that this is still awesome as fuck real or fake
david wallett Not possible. Uncharted and the last of us were controlled into a linear style game which allowed free resources for Visual effects and texture resolution. There is no way in hell consoles can pull off these kind of visuals. The level of particle effects, physics, animations, texture res, lighting, environment deformation would be too much for ps4 and xbox one to handle.

Nobody said to create this 100% the same, raytracing and everything. Just use normal, modern techniques and you will be able to create an even better looking game than what you see here. Problem will be the physics, they're just too good in this trailer but i'm sure they could fake or simplify some of them to make it look similar. p.s. even a computer with 2 gtx780ti couldn't do a perfect replication of raytraced graphics from the 90's but using modern techniques they can fake it extremely well and actually make it look way better. Remember, this is CGI from 2005, we are almost 10 years later, we can fake those graphics into existence :)
still love how is specified the TRUE 720p, back when HD resolution (just 1280x720) was the true game changer back at time, and today this resolution just looks like 640x480
I love this trailer and also still watching it sometimes. imo it can surly be achievable on ps5. In some areas we progress beyond this trailer, nowdays we have better textures, foliage, and lod in racing games....but some of the effects and physics in this trailer are still the best i saw...like the realistic mud ,smoke and damage.

It looks like they were planning on having a cockpit camera but weren't able to do it for some reason. The level of destructibility is also not up to the quality of what's shown in this video.

I think part of the problem with these trailers was that the PS3 was rushed. I genuinely believe that MS and 360 forced Sony to launch PS3 earlier than intended, which forced Sony to cut down the hardware significantly. A PS3 with a better CBE could’ve run a game looking like this

ps4 could do so much better than this. the only games that have come out on the ps4 use ps3 engines except the few games that were launch titles which include infamous second son and driveclub, which both use early devkits. one the unreal4 games start rolling out then the power of the ps4 will be shown.
AmericaTheEngravy sauce LMAO, both consoles are weak. The PS4 runs around 900p, 30fps at Mid/High settings, XB1 like 720p 30fps low/mid settings. Though both do a good job at scaling up to 1080p. Both suck at AA and Post Processing. New Engines will be better, but not that much better. Compared to even Mid Level PC's this gen already looks obsolete. VR is just around the corner, good chance Oculus will be released next year. The latest headset has some impressive reviews. Framerate, Resolution and Post Processing will be Important. As every flaw will be noticeable and will disrupt the VR feel. Though I haven't counted Sony out and I think Morpheus is going be really good. I have a feeling Driveclub is being delayed for Morpheus, because it would be the perfect title to sell the new tech. Nvidia and AMD already starting a Price War so we should see some serious HW price drops this year. Steam is also ushering in a new Era for PC gaming, It already has the best Market Place and best resources for Indie Developers. If Steam Machines/SteamOS catch on, it will Finally create a Market for Linux Based gaming. Rumors hint toward a $300 to $400 Steam Machine that will be nearly twice the power of the PS4. Since Valve and Nvidia are onboard I would expect plenty of AAA titles. So we could have a Free OS that is completely Optimized for Gaming. Even if SteamOS fails Windows 9/DX12 will eliminate most of the Windows/Driver overhead. By this time next year a $400 to $600 PC's will handle 1080p, 60fps, at very high/Ultra settings, with Post Processing. At least in Cross Platform games. There are some PC Indie Projects that will really push the PC and Several PC games will have High Resolution Texture/Shader mods that will need Mid/High End PC's. Consider this I paid just $600 on my last PC upgrade and got a Used I5 3570k, Asus MB, 8GB and a R9 290x. All my games run at Max Settings at 1080p and rarely drop under 60fps. When they do its like 40 to 50fps and thats on Crysis 3/Metro. Yes 60fps makes everything look so much smoother and more fluid. I still like console gaming, so I went with a XB1 it was an impulse buy and PS4 was sold out at the time. I wanted to play Destiny and a couple other MS titles. Comparing the XB1 to my PC is like Comparing a 4cyl Mustang to a Shelby Mustang. I guess the PS4 would be the 6cyl version. I've played both and trust me the PS4 isn't that much better. I really don't think these systems will have the lifespan of last gen. Motorstorm and Pacific Rift (Not so much Apocalypse) are by far my favorite racing games of all time. The only game that compares is Flatout UC. I would buy a PS4 tomorrow if there was a new Motorstorm. I have absolutely no Interest in Driveclub. I will get a 2nd Hand PS4 when the good exclusives start coming out. As for the XB1 Halo better be amazing.

To those who are bashing the way the graphics were in the finished product. You must realize that these trailers are pre-rendered, meaning, it does not use the actual gaming engine. Though some trailers do actually use the gaming engine, namely Heavy Rain and Metal Gear Solid 4, that did use it. As a matter of fact, even after this game came out some years back, I still play it; the graphics are superb and all round stellar soundtrack.

I've struggled to find this video recently and I suspect sony have secretly had the clips removed from official sources. I must say when I first saw the tech demos I was genuinely blown away... annoyingly it fell way short in everyway and after buying the game only a few months ago for £1. i'm glad I didn't splash out full price for a complete lie!
@MrDevlance You will need a lot more that the world's fastest CPU available now and OC'd to high heaven, alot more than just ddr3 memory and a lot more than 2 GTX 590's to get that running in realtime. Put it this way, it would take a lot longer 1:33 to render as CGI video on those specs. Going on the current 3D modelling software out there... it would take a few days of 24/7 number crunching. And I know what I am talking about. This however is a masterpiece of a trailer.
I don't understand that people actually say that this "isn't even possible by todays standards". This may not be what Motorstorm actually looked like, but they came close. only thing missing here is better physics engine, better mud/particles, and an ability to actually drive in 1st person. As far as the graphics, look at the ground, and the polygons on the rocks in this trailer. I for one do believe this would be possible on a PS3. (not that they ever made it happen : /)
Driveclub visuals + spintire mud and tires + beamng physics = Motorstorm 2005 trailer comes to life as PS4 Motorstorm restart. It's possible. PS4 can handle this trailer graphics easy.
@HuGiv5 No mate, next gen PC's will not match this... let alone consoles. This sort of level of fidelity is beyond 'uncanny valley', and we are a few generations away from that. Look up 'diminishing returns', it has started. Trust me on that.
Consoles don't need specs like that. Their developers already know what they're working with and they can optimize for one specific hardware configuration. Since everyone's PC is different, what you lack in optimization you make up for with more power.

Just watched the Forza Horizon 5 trailer and it's amazing that there are still aspects of this trailer yet to be surpassed in a modern racing game.

If Steam Machines/SteamOS catch on, it will Finally create a Market for Linux Based gaming.
Rumors hint toward a $300 to $400 Steam Machine that will be nearly twice the power of the PS4. Since Valve and Nvidia are onboard I would expect plenty of AAA titles.
So we could have a Free OS that is completely Optimized for Gaming. Even if SteamOS fails Windows 9/DX12 will eliminate most of the Windows/Driver overhead. By this time next year a $400 to $600 PC's will handle 1080p, 60fps, at very high/Ultra settings, with Post Processing. At least in Cross Platform games.
There are some PC Indie Projects that will really push the PC and Several PC games will have High Resolution Texture/Shader mods that will need Mid/High End PC's.
Consider this I paid just $600 on my last PC upgrade and got a Used I5 3570k, Asus MB, 8GB and a R9 290x. All my games run at Max Settings at 1080p and rarely drop under 60fps. When they do its like 40 to 50fps and thats on Crysis 3/Metro. Yes 60fps makes everything look so much smoother and more fluid.
I still like console gaming, so I went with a XB1 it was an impulse buy and PS4 was sold out at the time. I wanted to play Destiny and a couple other MS titles.
Comparing the XB1 to my PC is like Comparing a 4cyl Mustang to a Shelby Mustang. I guess the PS4 would be the 6cyl version. I've played both and trust me the PS4 isn't that much better. I really don't think these systems will have the lifespan of last gen.
Motorstorm and Pacific Rift (Not so much Apocalypse) are by far my favorite racing games of all time. The only game that compares is Flatout UC. I would buy a PS4 tomorrow if there was a new Motorstorm. I have absolutely no Interest in Driveclub. I will get a 2nd Hand PS4 when the good exclusives start coming out. As for the XB1 Halo better be amazing.
CrossEyed Jack it's not about power, it's what you do with that power. the last of us came out when the g force titan was out and yet the last of us running on ps3 is miles better than crisis 3 on 9 titans running at 4k 120fps.
look at uncharted 4. that game already looks amazing, and it's only the first game naughtydog is making for the ps4. it's what you do with power.
and look at the games coming out right around the corner. it's like whenever another gen comes out people are sure to trash and smash it right out the gate. the games coming out right now are just upscaled ps3 games which is why definitive edition games make sense right now. once the next gen engine games come out people with shut up and take everything on a game by game basis.

The irony is that its the PS4 that has a better shot at running this in real time than the PS3 from what I've seen.
To those who are bashing the way the graphics were in the finished product. You must realize that these trailers are pre-rendered, meaning, it does not use the actual gaming engine. Though some trailers do actually use the gaming engine, namely Heavy Rain and Metal Gear Solid 4, that did use it. As a matter of fact, even after this game came out some years back, I still play it; the graphics are superb and all round stellar soundtrack.
Man back at the time i actually believed ps3 would do these with so many specs talk, damn this looks insane maybe in 5 years we can get a Motostrom looking like this, hell DC looks amazing but this is a whole new level

This is not possible on PS3 and never was. The quality volumetric smoke alone would kill the whole system.
I can't believe that a PS5 CAN'T perform this level of detail despite the advancement in technology. 10 years later these 'graphics' are not possible for ANY platform.
However the PS5 can provide a good taste of what this CGI showed.

This is three generations beyond what the actual game was however I think the final game approximated the look of this trailer despite how pre rendered it is.

I've struggled to find this video recently and I suspect sony have secretly had the clips removed from official sources. I must say when I first saw the tech demos I was genuinely blown away... annoyingly it fell way short in everyway and after buying the game only a few months ago for £1. i'm glad I didn't splash out full price for a complete lie!

@MrDevlance You will need a lot more that the world's fastest CPU available now and OC'd to high heaven, alot more than just ddr3 memory and a lot more than 2 GTX 590's to get that running in realtime.
Put it this way, it would take a lot longer 1:33 to render as CGI video on those specs. Going on the current 3D modelling software out there... it would take a few days of 24/7 number crunching. And I know what I am talking about.
This however is a masterpiece of a trailer.

I don't understand that people actually say that this "isn't even possible by todays standards". This may not be what Motorstorm actually looked like, but they came close. only thing missing here is better physics engine, better mud/particles, and an ability to actually drive in 1st person. As far as the graphics, look at the ground, and the polygons on the rocks in this trailer. I for one do believe this would be possible on a PS3. (not that they ever made it happen : /)

@HuGiv5 No mate, next gen PC's will not match this... let alone consoles. This sort of level of fidelity is beyond 'uncanny valley', and we are a few generations away from that. Look up 'diminishing returns', it has started. Trust me on that.

Consoles don't need specs like that. Their developers already know what they're working with and they can optimize for one specific hardware configuration. Since everyone's PC is different, what you lack in optimization you make up for with more power.
