Hi Everyone and Welcome Back to My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing project.
First, my apologies. This dress too WAY longer than I thought it would! There are so many details that add time. Special pockets, tricky collar, unusual button placement, epaulettes! But the final result is great. I hope you like it!
Marie

You are quite simply the best teacher in the world...bar none.
As someone who struggles with sewing decisions and failure fatigue I appreciate you sharing your thoughts about pushing through a project. If someone of your caliber and level of talent can feel the way you described I definitely need to give myself more grace and be patient with the learning process. I also need to remember that it's only fabric. I tend to not do any of the projects that are new to me afraid of wasting fabric and money but it's wasteful for it to sit on a shelf and do nothing too! Thank you for all you do, your words of encouragement and teaching mean more than you will ever know ❣️💙
Hey, get behind me in the failure and fatigue line. What I tell myself is KNITS ARE NOT MY FRIEND! Everything looks better on my dummy Clementine. I just wear everything I make in the backyard…who cares, life is short.❤
@@dayzemae9015 😁 Thank You for sharing 💙
I completely agree with all you said.
Thank you Marie. I appreciate your honesty so much and feel validated from it. I will press on with the projects I have put aside. I will continue to learn and be mesmerized by your skill and ability and passion. Thank goodness I found your channel.
Yes, we are all human. Just take a pause and a deep breath. Big exhale and maybe a nice cup of tea and start up again. Yes, it IS only fabric. :)
What a lovely dress... it looks so comfortable, without the cost of loosing the feminine look... love that time was taken to explain the facing and collar... thank you... fantastic dress..
Great result. Really lovely dress and the pop of colour works so well. Excellent teaching as always especially sharing project fatigue issues which we all get sometimes. Thank you.
I'm so thankful for your detailed instructions of the collar construction! I'm so intimidated to try one! I also learned what some of the pattern markings mean. Thanks for your tutorial!
“The more I’m thinking having big bags on my ….” 🤣 I love your humour Marie!
Well, I mean REALLY?!? Just not in my best interest if you know what I mean :)
@@mybucoliclife ya those really were crazy big pockets on that pattern! Your version looks great!
Hi the dress is beautiful . Very nice printed fabric. Have a nice evening 🥰
I would like to add my thoughts on your questions at minute 50ish. Since watching facebook and youtube, I have found that my span of attention has reduced, not just in sewing either. I'm told these things train our brains to crave something new after about five minutes, or less. Your lack of enthusiasm nearing the end of the project might be a craving for something new. That's my two penneth worth. Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it.
It's lovely! The contrast fabric really lifts it 😍
Really nice. I like the contrast. When I see your videos I can see I’m not the only one who gets ahead of herself and have to undo what I did. 😂
As usual Marie, you have taken us by the hand and we have been privy to all your thought processes along the way, including when the Hump effect rears it's ugly head 😂😂😂. Gorgeous dress. You must be the best dressed farmer ever 😂❤😂❤
Very pretty. The bright floral fabric looks like a Kaffe fassett print to me.
Beautiful Dress. You did a wonderful job.I enjoyed the video.
Beautiful
Lisa here, not Darryl. Lovely dress, Marie. The flannel does look cozy, but not bulky, and very flattering. @Thimblehollow
Какое красивое получилось платье и как вам идет!
What a lot of work that collar was! It reminded me of why I avoid them whenever possible. This dress came out great and it looks way better on you than the model. I love the way you take what you have or find, and combine it all very creatively. Your finished products are of the pattern and yet they are unique.
That's gorgeous Marie ❤
Beautiful dress ❤😊
It looks great, and it was a lot of work, glad you managed through and finished 👍🏻
Wow! What a complicated process on the collar! Great job! I'll be watching this video several times when I attempt that collar! I'm so impressed with your sewing skills!! Very pretty dress!
Wonderful dress! Thank you, Dixie
Such a pretty dress.
Hahaha! Yes, probably most of us hit that ‘Wednesday’ sewing hump. The _this is horrible!_ or the _whats wrong with this jolly sleeve!_ or _oh no! I forgot to move the dart / lengthen the bodice_ or whatever other stupid thing we forgot to do. I walk away. Depending on what the issue was, i’ve been known to walk away for weeks 😂. Or set fire to it 🤣😂🤣
Your dress is beautiful! I love that contrast fabric against the black, it looks so bright!
Yep!
Very pretty, Marie! That neckline is so pretty with the contrast facing. Yeah, about that mid-point doubting, it is real for me. I really enjoyed this sew-along, thanks for taking us along. 🧵🪡👗👏❤️
I think that is the best of the wrap dresses you have made. the sleeve length looks good, I love the contrast. I real enjoy that you are so honest. X
Wow! That looks so hard! But you made it look so easy. Not sure I could do it unless I had a month or two of free time and a couple nerve pills and a pillow to punch and cry on😅. Thanks so much for sharing. Dress looks beautiful on you.
Looks great love the colour trims ❤
You did a marvellous job! The dress and the wearer look so lovely 💙❤️🖤
I like the combination of fabrics. The dress looks comfy, too. I have one small observation. I am short with a somewhat larger bust and I find that pockets on the bustline can be a distraction. I make my pockets or any contrasting design elements slightly smaller, closer together and higher up on the bodice to draw the eye away from the chest and toward the neckline and the face.
Thank you! This turned out so cute! Love that popping contrast!
I did think you were a bit off, abd when you didn't do the sleeve seam, I new you were not, I think we all go through that, I know I do. Maybe it was the colour, black is not a happy colour, personally I never sew black and don't wear it. Great to watch you.😊
So awesome Marie, what a challenge that you took on. I have that pattern and might try it! Thanks for such gorgeous fabric choices, would never have thought flannel
Marie, looks great
Super cute! I love the fabric choices you selected. You are so talented.
Great job Marie! That collar seems a bit complicated, but you plowed right thru it. It ended up being super flattering on you! Thank you for another great video!💕
Love the contrast fabric! Good editing call on the upper pockets, I suspect.🤭Flannel sounds like a comfortable choice for the main dress. I bought some of your favorite interfacing for a couple of knit tops I’m planning for after Christmas. Don’t you hate when a missing sewing room item happens?🙄 Helpful to show the stay stitch line and that serging. Hard experience (AKA mistakes) is an excellent teacher.😵💫😂Helpful to show the pocket miter and flap angle procedures. Nice executive decision on the top buttons situation.😊 Great to show your sleeve construction. Might be a very tricky part for someone. Nice detail shown on constructing the epaulets. Similar to a flap for a bag. My times of greater mental challenge in a project is often the daunting feeling at the beginning or sometimes with the tediousness of the finish/hand work.
There were so many parts to this dress!! Thanks :)
I never paid attention to the direction of the holes in my buttons. You give such good hints. Thank you for all the tips and tricks with this dress. I love the dress. It's so pretty.
Oh wow, it is snowing, love it! Looks like a wonderfully comfortable dress.
Before you even started talking, I was already in love with the sewing machines behind you. I am so bummed out that I live in Vancouver 🇨🇦 and therefore too far for getting one of your machines. The shipping alone would be way expensive. 😔 but great video again. I agree with you about the pockets on the breasts. I don’t do that myself anymore for a while now. 😊
What a cute dress...you definitely had your challenges with this one, but great way of persevering and ending with another great garment. The collar was definitely something that looked to bea bit challenging. I really appreciate your honesty in admitting the challenges you face with some projects and that it's okay to walk away and give ourselves some grace. I know I've felt that same way many times, especially with some of the quilts I've made. Thanks for another great video...I'm sure I'll watch again, just so I can see things I may have missed the first time. Can't wait to see what you have planned next!
After thought QUESTION...This may be a dumb question, but why do you sometimes cut pieces with the pattern print on the outside and sometimes you cut with it flipped? I know that if you're cutting single layer and need a mirror image piece, it's necessary to "flip" the pattern piece, but sometimes you've cut both pieces, but it's flipped backwards. I just didn't know if I was having a momentary "senior moment" (yes, I'm almost 60) and spacing something important. Thanks!
Hello! Sometimes I flip it if it is easier to cut out or find a place for it that way. As long as I'm cutting two out on double layers, and it is not a directional print, it doesn't matter if the print on the pattern is up or down.
@@mybucoliclife Thanks ... That's what my brain was thinking, BC it's what made sense. But, I want to be sure I wasn't simply missing something.
Absolutely wonderful... the black with the pops of color is perfect !!! In flannel is chefs kiss... I have been eyeing this pattern since it came out but I have 5 wrap patterns now... you have inspired me to give it a whirl... thank you so very much for being daring n showing to be fearless... this is gorgeous on you... thank you again... blessings...
❤❤❤❤ it.
OMG! I love that dress! I am not one that wears dresses much at all, but, this is sooooooooooooooooooo cute! I love the contrast in fabrics. Awesome job Marie! I also find that you work through each sewing session as you go and explain things. This is so helpful to someone like me that tends to just follow pattern instructions and then run into issues. Looking forward to the next project. I have bought Know Me jacket pattern 2058. Wanting to make one like the pattern package with blocking in shades of cream, maybe a burnt sienna color and peach. Will not be starting this till you make one.
Thanks! I am going to get to that jacket soon, I decided to use different fabrics than I originally thought, so I need to plan. :)
You know I will be watching. Happy Sewing!🥰❤❤@@mybucoliclife ❤
