I'm 74 and feel like I'm also living my best life. When I was younger, I didn't expect the second half of my life would be so good. It all starts between the ears. You have to make it happen.
I’ve told you this before John, but it’s worth saying again, you’re authenticity is what sets you apart, you’re always open and honest, you’re one of the realist people in this space and I greatly appreciate YOU💯.
Very inspirational, John. I will turn 64 in a few weeks. I've been watching your videos for the last six months or so and you've inspired me to look better and feel better about myself. Thank you.
Bravo John! I’m 58 I’m married with 2 kids. My mother just passed away at this month and was visiting her 3 times a week to feed her. After taking care of everyone around me, I’ve decided to start taking care of my self more. I have joined a gym and it feels great! I have more to do like get myself a2019 C7 corvette stingray( May take until I’m 60!)
John, I'm 73 so far, this year I've ran four marathons, fish three bass tournaments, learning how to play bluegrass and created a business. Still going to the gym three times a week, wearing better clothes, thanks to you! and still marry to the same hot woman for the last forty years who is six years younger than me and the bedroom is alive!! She loves running, the gym, spending time outdoors and traveling. The key for us guys is to keeping moving, live like there is no tomorrow, eat healthy, drink wine, get outdoors with sunlight and get your mindset on track. Yes you will have down days but again keep moving forward and don't quit!!!! Awesome video!!!!!!
61 years young, in the gym every weekday at 5:30 am. No meds, 5’ 11” and 185 lbs. I made a decision to leave Southern California, five months ago, for South Florida. I will not get into the reasons why. It was a huge change at age 60. I am adjusting. You only get one life. Stay strong in all aspects - including mental health. Therapy is great. Be well!
Thanks for the motvation for a 30 year old. I began to realise how precious life was earlier in the year when I turned 30. Still looking for more ways to get out/work on myself, but I'm currently out of my apartment for lessons/group classes 2-4 times a week. I'm the busiest socially than I've ever been.
Very happy you're enjoying your life John! I think a big reason why you are able to do that is because of your health. Many people at that age would probably find it difficult to do the 10 min of walking on the treadmill that you probably do to warm up before your workouts. Or even if they don't find it difficult, they simply do not do it. It's definitely inspiring to see how well you are doing, and that you are starting a business as well. If I'm able to do as well and feel as well as you do when I'm 55, I'll be very happy!
BRAVO my friend, every day is a new opportunity for all us to be better. your words are facts, this stage of life is the best when you earn it and maintain. We are not dead yet, lets celebrate life by doing our best every day. Salud my friend
One qoute that has kept me active in life through my 40s and now just hitting my big 50th birthday is from the movie Strictly Ballroom: "A life lived in fear is a life half lived." Thanks Jon!!
Thanks buddy. Hopefully somebody much younger than either of us (I’m 45) can learn these lessons earlier in life than I sure did. Only over the last couple years have I started to really understand the power of setting boundaries, sticking to my principles and not letting people define who I am for me. It’s still a work in progress, but it already feels so much more liberating
John, I relate to everything you said in this video. As a long time subscriber, thank you for producing these meaningful messages. I’m looking forward to ordering your wine!
John, this one hit home. I am 60 and feel I'm at the 2/3 mark in my life. I'm in fairly decent shape but gained about 30 pounds after a spinal fusion, (it sucked). I started a new consulting business and need to get myself, and wardrobe, in shape to start networking again. My mindset is there but it's tough to think "I should have done this at 40!". I need to make myself a checklist and could use some advice. And, your channel and followers are amazing! Much Thanks!
At 71 yesterday had a real near death traffic accident; literally! Got me thinking what’s the point? Nicely retired and have a great 48 year marriage, but still hard to not think how much longer and what’s the point? Do have great health, TRT for 4 years, look 10 years younger, but still. This video hit home! Thx!
John, my brother, thanks for the wake up call. I’ve been starting to feel like I’m past my prime. It’s been manifesting in a few different ways. I need to revive my joie de vivre. Sorry to hear about the challenges in your social circle. Sounds like you have a great perspective though. Way to walk the walk. 👍
Im in my 40's and things like this definitely cross my mind. I can literally do the same things i was doing when i was 30. Its weird how people keep trying to put their limitations on me....but I'm not slowing down for another 30 years lol.
I agree totally and it’s critical to pursue things you enjoy and not measure against others. It’s also helpful to filter out news that’s not useful and social media that isn’t providing a skill, learning or positivity- I refuse to do social media where it’s constant posting of consumption, aggrandized travel and dining or lifestyle crap. Discover that on your own and do it on your own. So much more to cover but learning to say “No” is huge. Plus learning to NOT say “Yes” knowing full well you’re going to cancel plans or invites is just as important.
Brother I work out,I eat healthy most of the time,I have a good partner but the tricky thing is the financial issue that limits me to live my life fully
You’re right about most guys. My brothers-in-law, who are in their 50s and 60s, for example, are low-energy, unfit, ungroomed, and look depressed, old, and lethargic. And their wives are just as bad, if not worse.
I'm 60 and I try to stay active. But I see younger men with no energy and beer guts. That is not how men at this age are supposed to be. Thank you so much for this video. Keep it up!!
I totally agree. I just turned 60 and thank God I am able to work out for an hour a day. I see men in my age range that seem to have given up. Weak, slothful, poor health from just stopping to stay fit. I get as we get older it’s harder to be healthy but for most it’s a decision. It takes way longer for me to heal from an injury. I’m dealing with plantar fasciitis right now but I continue to work out on an elliptical six days a week because I’d rather be in a little pain than start gaining weight again. And slowly it’s healing. Ibuprofen also helps! Guys, we gotta keep moving. It’s a mindset.
Ernst Stavro Blofeld: “…They told me you were assassinated in Hong Kong.” James Bond: “Yes, this is my second life.” Blofeld: “You only live twice, Mr. Bond.” Bond: “Well, they say twice is the only way to live.”
I Enjoy your content. I’m a 50 year old dude in great shape with a successful career. You speak of having social functions nearly every night. Have you always been that way? My social life is really lacking and I’m not too sure how to turn it around. I’m divorced with kids. One in college and one in High School so, I do have the time. I would even settle for 2x/month. I’m also very good socially but I don’t think that I get invited anywhere because previously, I always declined or dodnt show up because of my commitment to my kids when they were younger. Anyhow your video was good timing because I’ve been thinking about it a lot.
Appreciate your comment! One thing I might suggest, is to go find things to do instead of waiting for things to come to you. If you’re on social media, follow a bunch of restaurants, event spaces in your town and see if there’s any organizations that promote activities in your town and start showing up to events.
What middle aged men dont realize is you can do so much more than you or society thinks possible. Physically spiritually financially and socially but you have to take the steps yourself
You think Temecula is small now, I was raised there in the 70’s and 80’s when there was literally 500 people. If you want the history of that town back then let me know
Good video, John, although not why I tune in to your channel. You're probably preaching to the choir considering your audience is already here, but preach on anyway.
th-cam.com/video/HTEMQQSYkqU/w-d-xo.html Honestly, the two of you together making a few videos, with varying viewpoints on a variety of subjects would be HUGE and incredibly helpful for all of us viewers. Different opinions is normal and often clarifies things better for viewers as one may express themselves better, and connect better on some points, while the other of you does this on other points. Almost as if viewers are flies on the wall as the two of you discuss fashions for older men. Would be gold.
Want to know the reason why most of guys over 40 ARE HALF DEAD. We have been crushed by life experiences, also I know a lot of it has do with $$$. We either cleaned out in a divorce , separation or paying alimony and child support. We live in an economy where having a lot of money is mandatory especially as you get older and lots of us are behind the 8 ball, for the reasons I stated,. Dont want to sound black pilled but these are facts, most of us are working and existing till we are room temperature. Being black pilled is just more honest
Is this trend new? Why would men change now? Were men that much healthier, besides fewer being obese, 30 or 40 years ago? Very few people worked out in gyms. That group had a lot of heavy smokers and drinkers. Are men in this situation in 2024 just more visible?
Absolutely yes they were healthier and obesity was rare. I rarely saw heavily obese people 30-35 years ago and certainly not the amount of obese women like today
I'm 74 and feel like I'm also living my best life. When I was younger, I didn't expect the second half of my life would be so good. It all starts between the ears. You have to make it happen.
Same, I remember people would virtually sit down and give up at sixty!
Very true! Thank you!
I’ve told you this before John, but it’s worth saying again, you’re authenticity is what sets you apart, you’re always open and honest, you’re one of the realist people in this space and I greatly appreciate YOU💯.
Thank you! Appreciate that very much!

Thanks for watching!
Thank you for such a heart warming episode. It was the episode that I needed today. I’m 54 and I needed reminding that life is what you make of it.
You’re very welcome!

Thanks for sharing John.

John, great perspective in the video, as always. What shirt do you have on? Love that color.
Thank you! It’s a fitted sweater from Weston Bouchér.

You're so right. Get rid of dead weight. at 50 I feel like I'm starting to live my best life now, single, no kids, decent job, self care.
Couldn't agree more 🤷
Thank you!
Effort is everything…
Absolutely!

People that don't set goals have inadvertently set that goal.
I'm 60 and I try to stay active. But I see younger men with no energy and beer guts. That is not how men at this age are supposed to be. Thank you so much for this video. Keep it up!!

I’m about to turn 43 in a few months. I feel more happy than ever!!! Not even in my 20s was so happy that I am today. Great topic John!!! 🫡
Thank you!
I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living or get busy dying.
Andy - Shawshank Redemption
Absolutely!!
Dude Red said that not Andy.
I decided to hit the gym 6 mornings a week. I decided to eat better. The key is, I ‘decided’ to do it without fail.
You got it! That’s the spirit!

Are you guys not tripping over Netflix film crews all the time?
I've heard it said "most people major in minor things"... 😮🎉
Some people are saving theirs for the unknown.

I think a lot of men get stuck in bad marriages and dead end jobs and they just give up. It’s hard to stay motivated in that situation.
I would argue that they gave up prior to the bad marriage and dead end job.
@@markwelch676My thoughts exactly. That being said, boys give up, men never do!
You're a F'In legend John! Don't let the 304's and the haters bring you down.
