Really good receipt. I made 2 time already and results really awesome. One thing that make curious ,bun smell yeast. Do you know why? How to make it stop smell yeast.
@@auntiedeeskitchen7575 tonight I tried the recipe and added a little more sugar than your recipe called for and it still wasn’t sweet to my liking 😅, if I added a cup of sugar, will that throw the dough recipe off or make the dough too wet? Lmk, otherwise I got amazing results! Thanks!
Auntie Dee Thanks for sharing your soft, fluffy bao recipe. Btw do I need to add some white vinegar in the water for steaming to achieve a white and not yellowish bao
Thank you so much for your comment I really appreciate it . You can add about a tbsp of white vinegar into the steaming water. I didn't add vinegar for this recipe because of the special flour that was used. 😊
Hi, Auntie Dee. Thanks for this delicious bao video. Baos are the family's favourite. What can I use to substitute shortening? Appreciate your reply. ☺️🥰
Beautiful recipe. Can’t wait to try your recipe. How do make to bun still white color after you steam? Thank you so much for your sharing . Have a wonderful day.
You're so welcome! Thank you so much for your comment. I used the brand Red Lotus to maintain the color. It can be found on Amazon, which is expensive, but I got it in stores for around $3-$4. www.amazon.com/Red-Lotus-Special-Flour-Steamed/dp/B00558X3D8/ref=asc_df_B00558X3D8/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=343242877634&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2508281779048450381&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9023858&hvtargid=pla-405660906168&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=69355982776&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=343242877634&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2508281779048450381&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9023858&hvtargid=pla-405660906168
Your steam buns quite closed with the Vietnamese Banh Bao. However it’s quite difficult to find this kind of special flour for Bao such as Lotus (from Thai) or Hongkong flour.
They don’t sale Hong Kong flour anymore. The company In Sacramental had closed down. If you live near LA California there a thai store you can get lotus flour. Amazon over charged. I bought in okc only 2.99 per bag .
It could be a number of things. Did you used the bao flour that has all the baking mix in it, (yeast, baking soda/powder)? How old is the bao flour, yeast and baking powder. Baking soda can turned your bao brown too. Baking soda produces alkaline solution in water that accelerates browning reactions.

Yes
2tbsp crisco veg .shortening. What is it ? Bao looking very good but you don’t give by how many gram it’s better.
Vegetable shortening is white solid fat made from vegetable oils.

I apologize for the late response. To tell you the truth, I don't know, because I just eyeball my dough portions.
What kind of flour are you using, there are different kinds of flour
I used Red Lotus brand special flour for steamed cakes.

You can substitute veg. shortening with lard or coconut oil.
Thank you very much for your reply. Coconut oil happened to be our favourite. Will try it out. Already subscribed. Thank you.

HELLO!
I HAVE A QUESTION.
I'VE GONE TO AN ASIAN MARKET, AND BOUGHT "BAO" FLOUR.
I MADE THE DOUGH, MADE THE BUNS.
WHY DID THEY TURN BROWN!?!?!?!?
It could be a number of things.

THE FLOUR IS MADE BY
"VINH THUAN", BANH BAO.
IT CAME WITH YEAST, I USED MY OWN YEAST.
THANK YOU FOR REPLYING.
Oh!, I tried that brand before. My bao dough too came out yellow and tough.
