I would suggest draining the oil while the mower is level on the ground. The engine case will drain more of the old oil out vs tilted towards the rear. Also I run the engine after to let the oil filter get completely filled and recheck dipstick again. Good video 🙂

Great comment. I actually do check the level later too but left that out of the video.

I cut one side from 1 qt. Bottle. Tuck it under filter. Trim to taste! All oil and filter come clean over a rag!. A funnel trimmed for drain tube dirrects all oil ti a 1 gal. Catch jug! 60z old mods for very clean waste free changes! A heat bottle with base cut out will fill tube no spill. I measure exact amount to refill. I fill filter to top and let it soak in. I can tilt it on over a rag with out any spillage! Fun to watch young whippersnapperz giterr done! Lol

Thanks for the model number. John Deere wants $55 for a PDF of manual. This is a big help.

I think there are plenty od resources that you don't need to spend that money on the manual.

Hi. It's just a $40 one from amazon. I had to encourage it a little to fit but it was only off the mounting holes by a couple millimeters. It works well enough. The ball was separate.

While you choice of oils is high grade automotive oil, the oil that should be used is Briggs synthetic, air cooled oil. Automotive oil has a lower heat range because it is water cooled.

Awesome comment. Thanks. I went to the B&S web site and here is a link to the briggs and stratton web page for oil recommendations in case anyone else wants to see that. Thanks again!

I disagree. Automotive oil is just fine. Synthetic is better.

Wrong oil. This oil is for water cooled engines. You need oil with Zinc in it. You have a air cooled engine.

Bro you must value that engine you sopse to change out the oil every 25 hrs if you use it a lot like if you mow a lot of yards if not every 50hrs should be fine oh by the way change out that oil filter every time you change out the oil don't leave it on a whole year that's how engines get ruined sincerely....
