We are delighted to welcome Edelweiss as the 250th airlines filmed in the World Air Routes/Flight in the Cockpit series! Edelweiss was founded in 1995 with one Douglas MD83 aircraft. Today the company operates a fleet of 7 Airbus A320/A330 aircraft to more than 50 vacation destinations around the world. The airline is part of the Lufthansa Group together with sister company Swiss International.
Our roundtrip flight from Zurich to the resort island of Phuket is hosted by Edelweiss Deputy Head of Flight Operations, with his copilot they take you through the entire process from their flight preparations at the operations office to all the duties they perform on the aircraft for this trip.

You see the Captain, you see the cockpit, and you see outside; this is one of many perfect places to place a camera. Love flying over water, especially with those beautiful skies in this video. Beautiful coastline, terrain, and landscape; this view is amazing outside. Amazing plane, awesome landing that sounds great, and I enjoyed listening to these pilots. Awesome video, I love it.

Can´t remember of any other video of airbus with manual throttling as this one.
Landing at the airport in Phuket was always a highlight and I hope that we will be allowed to fly again without extortionate demands such as tests and vaccinations

Different type, different procedures. But in my experience with boeing, at least 1-2nm before touchdown, which means 300-600ft.

topgeardel yes sir, today’s aircraft can completely auto-land even if the weather is so bad that you are blinded, given that the aircraft, and the airport is equipped with the system known as a CAT-III (Category-3) ILS (Instrument-Landing-System) which most modern jet passenger aircraft are equipped with, but, a handful of airports are on the other end of the spectrum. But, due to safety reasons, no pilot does an auto-land in completely ‘blinded’ weather conditions, since you can’t yet trust machines 100%. Pilots practice auto-land sometimes even in normal weather to keep in mind how to operate the procedures, but other than that 2-3 times, usually they never use auto-land on good weather.
