    I'll give you boys a golden tip: where you finish wrapping the tape (where u finish and cut it and finally wrap it around the loom) throw a small or appropriate size zip tie over the tape and secure it so the tape can't start separating or come up with time... peace

    I've used the exact same protecting sleeve a week ago (6 years since this video) (this is the first time I watch it) and cut it exactly in the same fashion without knowing anything about cars or electric cables, and I'm from Uruguay, South America. I don't know why but I find it extraordinary, almost eerie. I'm quite surprised at myself and pleased to know that I actually did it right, I thought my frankenstein work wasn't conventional. The only thing I would point out is that I avoided using tape because I think it will really wear out with time. I outright avoided having to join sleeves, and in places where I had no choice, I placed a 10 cm piece of a bigger diameter sleeve on top of the joint.

    Thank you so much. I was looking for, I don't know, 3 minutes, and I never thought I would find the right tape for a wire harness. Their both bookmarked. 😜

    good tutorial, straight to the point. It' looks "easy" on your car. Try the re-wrapping wire bundles on my 1994 Z28 Camaro, then I'll hire you, lol. I bought this tape anyways.

    Thanks so much for this excellent demo! Great detail. I'll refer to it while wiring in a usb charger for my motorcycle. Great camera work also.

    Thank you for this, I am about to redo the loom in my discovery 2. and was looking for different ideas as in running a little longer around the back, stranded or solid core, silicon or pvc etc etc.. But on seeing your vid I think just keep it as designed.. ta

    @CraigsDIY as always, a brilliant guide. You've helped me fix so many things on my 2002 Mondeo LX. A question for you... I had to replace the battery, but as I've imported my UK Mondeo to Spain, the battery I bought has the + and - terminals situated as such that I can only make the + cable reach the battery. I've bodged a connection from the - cable to the - terminal on the battery, but I'd really appreciate your advice as to how I could make this important connection permanent and secure. Bests, Ian

      Honestly if you've got the wrong format battery and it's new, the easiest thing will be to return it and get the right one. On the 4 cyl it's a DIN53L, the L is the terminal orientation. Check it anyway. Should be easy to order anywhere in Europe. Extending the ground cable will be more of a pain than it's worth, if it was absolutely necessary then I would replace the whole cable, which might require an auto elec place to make it up so the terminals are crimped properly.

    But is there a high quality conduit available? The stuff you used looks just like the stuff they put in at the factory which dries out, rots and cracks in just a couple years. Or is that all that is available?

    Here is another important tip... My 100hp Kubota cab was leaking when it rained. Upon investigating, I found that the split in the plastic covering sleeve was allowing water to run into the wiring from the outside mounted lights! I used black RTV and electrical tape to solve the problem. :)

    • @jmabs5096
      @jmabs5096 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Electrical tape is a nightmare if you need to access thst wire again... It tends to deform and get really gooey and sticky over the years, I would stick with plastic tubing and just seal the split with tape flat against it not around it, that way it should be relatively easy to remove the tap if need be.

    • @fxpestoperator5527
      @fxpestoperator5527 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jmabs5096 Your right, But I just used it to keep the RTV in until it hardened.

  • @netzonone

    I’d like to know why manufacturers left a little exposed wires near the connections plug or to the connections. Is it safe to tape this so that those wires will not greatly exposed to heat of the engine and also to prevent deterioration?

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just for flexibility and future access to the terminals I guess.

    YES! "Harness Tape"! Notice it doesn't say "Loom Tape"! STOP calling a bunch of wires a damn "loom". A loom is something for weaving cloth not for routing electricity.
