FF9 is my favorite FF hands down. The world, the lore, the story, the characters and their motivations, the deception among the antagonists were all well written and well told. Other FF stories might be better or more memorable, but the combination of all the elements and how they act together is top notch. I would love to see an updated FF9, 1 to 1 or rewritten like FF7R.

I really didn't care about FF9 until I recently played it myself. Loved the story and the characters are memorable, especially Vivi. The ending got me good.
If you played 7 then I would always recommend VII Remake. For traditional FFs I would say FFX since it is my favorite, but otherwise 6, 8, or 9 would also be good ones to play next. FF4 is really underrated too.

If that remake is more than a rumor the entire world seem ready to believe in, I hope Square Enix will focus on remaking the original game instead of basically rewritting the world of the game in 2-3 games made over 10 years minimum with pointless filler (like it's being done for FF7). Nice 3D graphics, fully voiced characters and no changes to the story or gameplay and fans would be happy.

Do we really need a Final Fantasy 9 Remake? Let's be honest, among all the PlayStation 1 entries, it has aged the best. I find the graphics charming and surprisingly timeless for PlayStation 1 standards. The story has great pacing, only hindered by side quests. Personally, I think a Final Fantasy 8 Remake is much more necessary. While the 1999 installment looked 'photorealistic' at the time, everything here looks terrible now. The remaster, in my eyes, is even a step backward. The gameplay also shows its age. I'll be honest, at some point, I activated the cheat mode because the game felt like a chore. Yes, every PS1 FF game needs a remake if not for one sole reason. The backgrounds are ugly as sin if you don't play with mods. FF9 is an absolutely beautiful game with Memoria on, it's hard to look at with it off. FF7 and 8 included. SE lost the source code for those games, so there's no chance of a remaster that properly upscaled the backgrounds. The only way Square will give us good looking PS1 FF games is if they remake it. Not to mention the amount of things they could tweak and fix with FF9s combat. Making ATB faster, making Trance selectable like a limit break, giving more AP, lessen the cost of support abilities, giving party members like Freya more utility, maybe a few added scenes to properly wrap everyone's story, a better localization, ect. FF9 has ok combat, but it could be better. It's at least not as rough as FF8s. I can't imagine drawing without the 2xs speed button. FF8 is doing a lot of set up and menuing just so you can auto attack and limit break everything. Very odd how involved setting your characters up is compared to how basic actually attacking with them is.
I'm expecting the announcement during the Final Fantasy anniversary, as it is the only day that makes sense for it for Square Enix to announce anything related about Final Fantasy. 💙💙💙

Everything is probably revolving around the FF7R project. The big question is how much of part 3 is done and how many assets are being reused. Will it release in 2 years? Or will it still be 3+? Keep in mind that team is also responsible for KH4 so there's also that. There's also likely a FF7 Before Crisis Reimagining (not a remake, this was a phone game, that needs to be built from scratch) and a major Dirge of Cerberus overhaul following part 3. So timing is the question. 24 is set. Rebirth and FF16 's Leviathan DLC with FF14's newest expansion. 25 is probably best for Before Crisis and FF9 Remake. 26 KH4 or FF7 part 3. 27 the other one that didn't release in 26.
I still hope it's coming, but it's a real shame we've not even had a confirmation yet. I can only imagine they'd want to get Rebirth out of the way and get IX Remake closer to release before anything is revealed. But even so, they're holding it awfully close to the chest if it is a real thing. Also I wouldn't say FF9 missed getting remastered. It did get the Steam/iOS version that's pretty much on everything now. It's basically a port but with new menus and shinier models. Which isn't much, but its the bare minimum for a remaster I'd say. A Remake would definitely be something else. A ground up rework with a chance to change up the look, modernise the systems and of course bring more life into the story with modern animation and voice acting.
I'd like a FF9 remake and a FF8 remake. But I don't think we're getting a "Remake" and it'll be more of a remaster. It was mentioned that the battle system was going to stay mostly unchanged. and they mentioned it would be more on the scale of CC:FF7 reunion. That's what i'm expecting. I'd go out on a limb and say that the next large FF game will be FF17. They might be in the ideation phase of of FF17. FF7R has their other main team all tied up till at least 2027 maybe 2028. If FF9 is coming out again. it'll be more of an HD remaster than full on remake. As for FF6. I think they should do what they did with FF3 and 4. Make a 3D remake in the same art style. I think it would serve the game well, though I know most fans would be livid with that idea.
It's highly unlikely that FF8 will get the same treatment of remake as FF7, since it doesn't have the same cult as the FF7 series. FF8 is one of the most underrated FF titles, and it would be a risk for Square Enix to remake FF8 in the future. Fingers crossed thoooo
Final Fantasy X-3 is more likely to happen as it was hinted by Tetsuya Nomura, saying that "It's sleeping right now, but the plot itself does exist" and have a writer for Final Fantasy X-3, Kazushige Nojima. He also saying it the possibility of making FFX-3 is "not zero" so we eventually see FFX-3 at some point.

I can't lie, after playing 7 Remake and Rebirth, I don't want it to be like Memoria. I don't want it to be turn based. It deserves the love the 7 has gotten. My personal hope is for it be a lot more like 7 Remake than just more of a remaster.
My feeling is that a 6 remake is more likely. After a FF7 trilogy they'll want another long term project to hold peoples attention. 9 doesn't seem like a game that could do the job. As great as it is, it should be a one and done remake. Not enough tension or mystery (or seriousness) for 10 years of retention. FF6 100% has it though - various themes, locations, and world changing events.
The fact that Final Fantasy VIII is being skipped again makes me sad, it really shows how Square Enix is treating FFVIII like garbage. For FFVIII's 25th anniversary, Square Enix said there won't be a remake, but if they can do a remake of FFIX, then why not a remake of FFVIII? I firmly believe that Square Enix would be as happy to delete FFVIII as they are to deal with it. Unfortunately, as a FFVIII fan you are really being cheated. Where's the remake? It isn't happening and isn't in production. There answered it for you. Yall need to realize SE is too busy and has too many reason why they WONT do it; busy with 2 mainkine FF games (FF16 and 3 FF7 games), downsized tyevamount of teams to focus more on better content meaning less projects going on at once, sold a lot of their studios to again downsize, FF9 was the swan song for single digit FF games and for tye PS1 why remake it, still relevant and timeless because ofbthe art style (this game aged very well), its still making money on steam, PSN, Switch, Xbox, Android, and iPhone, KH4 is being developed, several new SE IPs are in development, have yall forgotten about Super Soapstars is still being developed by SE?, There are so many other FF games that peoppe want remade and would be WAY better candidates for a remake than FF9 because agin, FF9 is still making money and is readily availabe, FF9 didnt have a complicated stoey or compilation like FF7 did that had tons of retcons and tons of spin offs.
You guys took a single leak that hasnt been 100% true and are treating it like words in stone from God. Since that list came out FF9 ports have been updated with nvidia support. That could have easily been why it was on that list. Or it was just there because nvidia was working on being more compatible with games and it was a game THEY were working on making run better on their drivers and sE had nothing to do with it.
