You can also edit the amount of jumps Vivi does per button press in the jump rope minigame in the .ini file. Whether you consider that cheating depends on how much value you place on your sanity.

The team that developed the OG FF7 and 8 are the ones developing FF7 Remake, that's why there's rumours about FF9 Remake coming before 8 Remake cause it's a different team developing it.
Honestly, for the IX remake, I would be happy if they updated the graphics and gave it a lot of quality-of-life features to make it more of a modern game. As much as I love the original IX, there were very glaring flaws (namely, the slow battle speed and loading times for battles).

This. Infact, I'd go so far as to say that she was one of the player's ending members if they cared for serious DPS along with Quina and Zidane as they have skills that do set damage. With Garnet for a more offensive white mage or Eiko for a more defensive white mage, there really was no reason to use the other members.

There are many minor creatures that count as dragons even as early as just outside the first Chocobo forest that are easy to take down. Quina can make quick work of grand dragons with his blue magic as well late game which is a great way to grind for xp while you do it. But a mod that scales dragon crest with stats instead of kills would be the only change necessary instead of a complete overhaul.
I recently finished a run of VV's randomizer and it was so much fun! Imagine boss rushes with two out of three bosses having access to the Chestnut ability, which deals damage based on the damage they had taken... or Trance Kuja getting replaced by regular Kuja. Like buddy, what did you trance for 😂
What really saddens me about the newer ff9 ports was the broken visual effects, specially flare. The reason i fell in love with the original is because of how beautiful it was. I wish there were mods that could fix that.
If I had the powers to mod this game. I would add story sections to flesh out Freya, Quina and Amarant a lot more. Woefully underdeveloped characters. Especially Freya, I would at least want her to have a sense of closure.
Every time I play FF9, Freya is always on my team (except for the bits that I'm forced to use other characters). She is even one of the characters I have right at the end fight. I've never used Mods on my games (would not know how to with original console systems anyway XD). Oddly I think my team is almost always at a disadvantage by the time I get to the end of the game since I tend to have both Garnet and Eiko on the team as well.
Freya is never on my team. Her abilities are clunky and jump just doesn't do anything for me. Yeah she has 9,999 but if a character is appealing just for 9,999 that ain't great. Sarah gets to stay because she has access to Ark.
Very soon there will be another one that looks incredible, made by the content creator RikkuandYuna. Not sure if it will be available in english. New weapons, new abilites, new bosses, beatrix available, and lots of new things.
Just wanna add "Trance Seek" to the list ! The mod is still in development but he is playable and look very promising. CD3 is almost finished. Each playable character has a passiv who complement their identity in the game, new fights are introduced (like the guardianS in CD3) new equipment, abilities, Beatrix is a permanent party member from a point in the CD3 and many others things ! You should give it a look !
One mod worth an honorable mention is the PSX UI mod, which is/can be made compatible with the Moguri mod. Although the devs did shrink the size of the vanilla UI in battles after an update patch, the fact remains that it's still hideous and looks like it was made for a touch screen, which is what the PSX UI mod fixes. Although you'll want to change the UI scaling back to 1.0 from the default 0.7 as the scaling also changes the size of non-UI elements. The mod is also highly customizable, allowing you to do things like adjusting the positioning while in battle or change how many columns the skill windows have in battle. Overall, it's a great addition to help get that nostalgic feeling.

Any time i think of FF9, i remember the time me and a friend were playing the game alongside each other. He fought the Iifa Tree boss and it took him half an hour to beat it. I go in and beat it in like two turns using Life and Phoenix Downs XD. He was so angry and asked why i never told him about that, i said he never asked me.
Freya was already the best character in the game to the point soloing the game with her was easier than running a full party due to the 4x EXP she would get, and thats without grinding Dragon Crest. Dragon Breath could also do guaranteed 9999 damage to all targets without grinding yet they removed that. Jump is also essential in speedrunning the game. The Dragon Knight Rising mod honestly sounds like it makes her weaker. Which I guess is fine if that was the intention, to make her more balanced, but I don't know why the video frames it as improving her. She was already incredibly dominant. If the story wasn't going to give her fair dues, its only fair she's unstoppable in battle!
7 was my first FF, but as I've aged 9 has become my clear favorite. The characters, the villains, the locations, the plot. It's just beautiful, through and through. No other FF compares.
I have a huge soft spot for the Final Fantasy modding community. Im currently playin 7 modded to hell with full voice overs and the works. Been such a fun experience since the last time I played OG 7 was when I was a kid on ps1
Started a playthrough on OG FF7 modded as well, I'm just not sold on the VA for Cloud. I know it's a community project and not professional VA's, I do think they did a great job overall.

Is any of those mods have something like reducing our overall character's damages? During mid to end game, your characters easily reach 9999 dmg each hit, it sucks. Why would you want to use Shock if Steiner can do 9999 with his normal attack? It makes most of our skillsets looks unimpressive. If they can reduce it to maybe 10 times smaller, I'm sure FF9 would immediately be balanced and a better game combat wise. Let's say your Steiner normally do 1000 with his normal attack, Shock would only make it 3000, and by being Tranced would finally get you 9000, it would be more satisfying to achieve such number after all that big effort. Not only that, this would make the game more challenging because enemies die longer, and Confuse would not immediately f*ck you up with Steiner instant killing your party member. And possibly we would try more of other skills like Demi or Poison because they would matter then in contrast to our reduced damage. I always see Demi sucks in FF9 because why would you use that if you can get a bigger and more consistent damage from even Firaga/Thundaga/Blizzaga.
I so don't want to sound rude but while the content of your videos is incredibly interesting, and I love anything Final Fantasy, the pacing of your videos is really bad, everytime a vid of yours pops on my recommended, I click it, skip 2minutes and nothing of value is lost, I understand that you're trying to introduce the subject of the video but taking 2minutes to say what the title said in less than 10words is just TOO slow You also regularly go on tangeants/irrelevant points, I guess to pad out the duration of the vid but these are SO unecessary, just in this video the first mod, I know Final Fantasy isn't known for it's difficulty, I know there are superbosses, I know there's sidequests in FF games, you don't need to explain those concepts EVERY SINGLE VIDEO they come up, is this supposed to be an introduction to Final Fantasy? Not a big fan of counter modding to stop RPG systems... It's the reason I hate Eldon Ring. Why create an RPG leveling system to turn around and then counterbalance it in a way that makes leveling nearly pointless?
I don't like FF IX much, because there's no character that I actually like. Beatrix and Vivi are somewhat cool. But compared to FF VI, VII and VIII, where I love almost the whole cast, FF IX isn't really a game I replay from time to time.
The thing that has held me back from replaying FF9 for so long is that all of the heroic character models are soooo ugly. I appreciate that they tried to go for the chibi look of classic FF games but they just missed the mark entirely and I find the game to be very unpleasant to look at as a result. Except for Vivi. He's adorable. But maybe one day someone will come up with a character overhaul mod.
Being able to steal the most powerful sword from the most powerful enemy is dumb. Why have the sword? If you’re that badass you don’t need it. Also it’s an RPG and you’re already one shotting everything. The best weapons should always be Ttainable before the super bosses. That’s why we get them.

I definitely don't agree the graphics don't hold up, I played it just literally yesterday and it's the best looking Final Fantasy game on the PS1 and still holds up a lot to this day.
Speed run? No slow run as if I remember correctly from my PS1 days the in game clock ticks back to 0 after enough time so can be achieved in the 12 hours for those with patience.
If they are gonna do remakes the way they did with ff7 turning into a shit fest of trash anime clichés with combat that tries to be both action and turn based and fails at both, then I want nothing to do with it. Nomura should be shamed for what he has done. If you don't respect the original work you shouldnt be doing a remake of it.
What I always find sad is that Zidane's sister never gets expanded on, hell they even forgot to put her into the anniversary cover picture for the soundtrack re-release.
Excalibur II is easy on steam. I read all the text, put on no encounters and 3 x speed and I literally didn't miss an item, and no I didn't use God mode.

Built-in speedrunning requirements like for Excalibur II always confused me in games like this, where the story was such a focal point. Nobody playing the game naturally would ever have an opportunity to obtain this weapon because literally just exploring and actually readin gall of the text takes more time than is required to get the weapon. Bizarre.
FFIX is my 2nd favourite FF, I absolutely love this game. Having Beatrix recruitable was one of the things I always wanted cause she's my favourite FF9 character, her story, her theme Roses of May, her redemption arc, she's written perfectly...I even named my daughter after her.
Is there any mod that speeds up battles by removing that wind-up for... EVERYTHING. I tried replaying it somewhat recently and that was unbearable. I get it probably was a technical limitations at the time, but gosh it made things slow!
Your title is somewhat misleading. None of these "change THE ENTIRE GAME" but some mechanics at best, the core content, story, characters etc remains the same.
As a man who loves Freya and her abilities, I concour she has some...arguably useless abilities, some of them definitely needed some more attention than others. Six Dragons having a 50/50 shot to ruin your party being the biggest annoyance of her kit. But eh, two-three abilities being subpar compared to the rest of the cast isn't a major downside to her. What is, is the fact she and Steiner are about 10+ levels below the party by mid-game due to the party splitting BS mid-disk 2
I think a lot of these mods WITH Echo-S 9 (a FULLY voice acted mod) will REALLY make modded 9 feel like a true remaster/remake. Hoping always for an official remake. But I love the Echo team. I love the mods we make. I love the mods this community has made. Thank you for covering them.
Moguri mod really sells the lasting visual identity of FF9. I am always walking around thinking damn this looks so cool. Really only trance and steal rates need to be touched up. Any steal pre-thief gloves as after thief gloves stealing is much more reasonable. Trance could outright be removed and I wouldn't notice.
I remember breaking FF9 by beating the Chocabo mini game. Suddenly, I was in like the last few chapters of the game at a low level with early game equipment. This might be useful for speed runners.
I've been pulling my hair out recently trying to get the Moguri mod to work with reshade on my steam deck. I need scan lines, because otherwise the Moguri mod in my opinion looks very bizarre and smeared without it. I'd rather play the original on duck station with down sampling and scan lines than the Moguri. However it means I miss out on other stuff Sigh!
What I don't understand regarding the Ultimate Weapons: Shadow and Holy are the two most used for absorption, but Water and Fire are never absorbed. Kinda sus tbh....
Something like the Moguri mod should be part of the baseline of HD versions of games. We keep getting sold the same games on console with very little effort.

Playing through with Moguri currently, just got to Oeilvert and it has revitalized the game so much for me, not that I ever didn't love it.

I always used freya anyway. I actually took the time to do power up by killing dragons so her special ability hit for 9999 so she was a great asset XD

The reason the backgrounds look so bad on the PS4 and PC is because they have been smoothed. They look better on an actual PS1.
I've had so much fun with the VV rando, every game is full of surprises. Highly, highly recommend that mod to everyone

How do you mod a game on the original PlayStation?
It can be modified on a computer and then burnt to a disc- of course you'd need a chiped playstation. It's not really legal.

I always see Demi sucks in FF9 because why would you use that if you can get a bigger and more consistent damage from even Firaga/Thundaga/Blizzaga.
I so don't want to sound rude but while the content of your videos is incredibly interesting, and I love anything Final Fantasy, the pacing of your videos is really bad, everytime a vid of yours pops on my recommended, I click it, skip 2minutes and nothing of value is lost, I understand that you're trying to introduce the subject of the video but taking 2minutes to say what the title said in less than 10words is just TOO slow
You also regularly go on tangeants/irrelevant points, I guess to pad out the duration of the vid but these are SO unecessary, just in this video the first mod, I know Final Fantasy isn't known for it's difficulty, I know there are superbosses, I know there's sidequests in FF games, you don't need to explain those concepts EVERY SINGLE VIDEO they come up, is this supposed to be an introduction to Final Fantasy?

Not a big fan of counter modding to stop RPG systems... It's the reason I hate Eldon Ring. Why create an RPG leveling system to turn around and then counterbalance it in a way that makes leveling nearly pointless?
I don't like FF IX much, because there's no character that I actually like. Beatrix and Vivi are somewhat cool. But compared to FF VI, VII and VIII, where I love almost the whole cast, FF IX isn't really a game I replay from time to time.
The thing that has held me back from replaying FF9 for so long is that all of the heroic character models are soooo ugly. I appreciate that they tried to go for the chibi look of classic FF games but they just missed the mark entirely and I find the game to be very unpleasant to look at as a result. Except for Vivi. He's adorable. But maybe one day someone will come up with a character overhaul mod.
Being able to steal the most powerful sword from the most powerful enemy is dumb. Why have the sword? If you’re that badass you don’t need it. Also it’s an RPG and you’re already one shotting everything. The best weapons should always be Ttainable before the super bosses. That’s why we get them.

I definitely don't agree the graphics don't hold up, I played it just literally yesterday and it's the best looking Final Fantasy game on the PS1 and still holds up a lot to this day.
Speed run? No slow run as if I remember correctly from my PS1 days the in game clock ticks back to 0 after enough time so can be achieved in the 12 hours for those with patience.
If they are gonna do remakes the way they did with ff7 turning into a shit fest of trash anime clichés with combat that tries to be both action and turn based and fails at both, then I want nothing to do with it.
Nomura should be shamed for what he has done. If you don't respect the original work you shouldnt be doing a remake of it.
What I always find sad is that Zidane's sister never gets expanded on, hell they even forgot to put her into the anniversary cover picture for the soundtrack re-release.
I just finished IX on PSX for the first time few days ago, and now I'm already buying it on Steam so I can play again with mods
Excalibur II is easy on steam. I read all the text, put on no encounters and 3 x speed and I literally didn't miss an item, and no I didn't use God mode.

@@brijor6ff7 if you install the memoria mod, they have a catalog that lets you download at least the more popular mods. It's all self-contained now, like the 7th heaven mod for FF7.

Excalibur II for me. I loved FFIX back in the day but that challenge was a nope from me.
Anything that makes this game easier on the eyes is a plus. Some of the ugliest and inconsistent designs I've ever seen.

Built-in speedrunning requirements like for Excalibur II always confused me in games like this, where the story was such a focal point. Nobody playing the game naturally would ever have an opportunity to obtain this weapon because literally just exploring and actually readin gall of the text takes more time than is required to get the weapon. Bizarre.

The best way to get excalibur II is to get to where it is at and let the clock roll over to 00:00:01 and go pick it up.

FFIX is my 2nd favourite FF, I absolutely love this game.
Having Beatrix recruitable was one of the things I always wanted cause she's my favourite FF9 character, her story, her theme Roses of May, her redemption arc, she's written perfectly...I even named my daughter after her.
Is there any mod that speeds up battles by removing that wind-up for... EVERYTHING. I tried replaying it somewhat recently and that was unbearable. I get it probably was a technical limitations at the time, but gosh it made things slow!

Your title is somewhat misleading. None of these "change THE ENTIRE GAME" but some mechanics at best, the core content, story, characters etc remains the same.

I love FFIX so much that I put hundreds of hours into it on my PS4. This video has me wanting to buy it again after I switch to PC.
As a man who loves Freya and her abilities, I concour she has some...arguably useless abilities, some of them definitely needed some more attention than others. Six Dragons having a 50/50 shot to ruin your party being the biggest annoyance of her kit. But eh, two-three abilities being subpar compared to the rest of the cast isn't a major downside to her. What is, is the fact she and Steiner are about 10+ levels below the party by mid-game due to the party splitting BS mid-disk 2
I think a lot of these mods WITH Echo-S 9 (a FULLY voice acted mod) will REALLY make modded 9 feel like a true remaster/remake.
Hoping always for an official remake. But I love the Echo team. I love the mods we make. I love the mods this community has made.

Moguri mod really sells the lasting visual identity of FF9. I am always walking around thinking damn this looks so cool. Really only trance and steal rates need to be touched up. Any steal pre-thief gloves as after thief gloves stealing is much more reasonable. Trance could outright be removed and I wouldn't notice.
I remember breaking FF9 by beating the Chocabo mini game. Suddenly, I was in like the last few chapters of the game at a low level with early game equipment. This might be useful for speed runners.
I've been pulling my hair out recently trying to get the Moguri mod to work with reshade on my steam deck. I need scan lines, because otherwise the Moguri mod in my opinion looks very bizarre and smeared without it. I'd rather play the original on duck station with down sampling and scan lines than the Moguri. However it means I miss out on other stuff

Thought PAL was easier because it ran slower, NTSC Excalibur was the harder one because the in game timer was faster, it was more like 10:30 for NTSC.
What I don't understand regarding the Ultimate Weapons: Shadow and Holy are the two most used for absorption, but Water and Fire are never absorbed. Kinda sus tbh....
Something like the Moguri mod should be part of the baseline of HD versions of games. We keep getting sold the same games on console with very little effort.
