Making Giant 19th Century Cookies. Gingerbread Cookies.

- While the couple in these molds are dressed for the early 18th century I'm confident that these cookie molds date from between 1800-1900 (a big window I know but it's hard to date them without a maker's stamp).

Cookie molds like these ones depicting people from times gone by were very popular throughout the 19th century, including the early 19th century. The lady and man in the molds are dressed for the early 18th century. I've seen antique ones showing medieval knights, Queen Elizabeth I, and other earlier rulers.
I've seen these in antique shops as well, but not in medieval Knight form! That sounds so interesting. I'm going to have to look into this now.
I've been looking into the modern, rolling pin type of cookie mold, over the last couple of years. They're beautiful. I've been thinking about buying ones to pass down to my kids. Your video was so much fun to watch, thank you for posting! Merry Christmas!
This is new to me, I thought gingerbread molds was a German invention.

I live in the Netherlands and we still do speculaas poppen (gingerbread dolls - cookies using these type of molds) arount the celebration of Saint Nicholas. Traditionally you would make one for the person you were inlove with. If they broke off the legs then they were not interested in you. If they broke off the head then they were also inlove with you and wanted to start a courtship. Now kids make them at school and decorate them with candy and icing.

From my Croatian heritage we always have a sweet bread called Provatiza. It is a lot like cinnamon roll or sticky buns but milk and honey is used instead of sugar. Hard to describe in words but they are the few recipes in my family that has been passed down. My great great grandma or "ya ya" Yadrik was an amazing cook and made sure everyone was fed. She used her small space of the backyard and house but always had tons of veggies, fruit (grape vineyard included) eggs, and meat. My grandma and my family did not starve during the Great Depression and WW II. This was in Pennsylvania.
Is it the same as Russian pryaniki.

When I was young we had an honorary dutch aunt who had two huge copper gingerbread molds from the 1700s a man and a lady in powdered wigs that were really big. She would polish them before all the holiday baking began. In addition she and her mother would make life like looking huge swans of pulled sugar with their homemade ribbon candies inside. Those things were for family and close friends and a great deal of work. Each child got a gingerbread house that was decorated too. I love that you took the time to make this video to share with us. Brings back warm treasured memories

Longeburger (baskets) used to make cookie molds like this, themed for their Christmas baskets, not as large however. I never learned how to use them, so gave them away. Maybe if I had seen this first, I would not have!

Dear Youngsters, hello. I have had so much ginger bread cookies as a child and I was born in 1922. I really hate ginger bread, but I know how important it was for family treats. But can anyone answer my question. In 1820s was there in use of brown sugar? Thank you kids for another look into your lovely cabin and the warmth that it and you youngsters share, again thank you for teaching real American history. God Bless you both!😘
Yes brown sugar became popular in the Americas from the 18th century. It was cheaper than white sugar.
