I have a 2018 Mirage SE Hatchback being delivered to me on November 3rd. I began watching review videos and got so worried that I had made the wrong decision. I appreciate this positive review it makes me feel so much better.
I was the same only a year ago; tomorrow I will take delivery of my own new Mirage too, a new 2023 ES HB. Its the CVT but you also then get the convenience of driving alot easier than with a stick shift, although I hear plenty good about the stick shift models out there too. You and I are in for a treat!
I had one (automatic transmission) as a rental for two weeks and quite liked it. I also test drove the 5-speed manual version at a dealer. Stepping quickly on the accelerator and braking hard is a very inefficient way of driving, and this car is not designed for that. The only two things I would have preferred would have been to move the gasoline cap lever 200 millimetres (8 inches) further back and switch the location of the backup camera and the triple diamond badge in order to have a centred backup camera (this applies only to the hatchback model). I ended up buying the sedan variant of this in a manual transmission.
Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦 Great review ! I am seriously looking for this car for my mother to get around in and this looks enticing for my senior mother .

Thanks for a great review. They are great little cars. I own a 2019 & truly believe I’ll be driving it when I finally retire. I currently have over 260k on my Toyota Echo & with driving 190 miles a day, it won’t be long till I reach 300k. At that point, the Echo will become the backup vehicle & I’ll take start using the Mirage as my daily driver. It’s loaded with every option anyone “needs.” It’s comfortable, plenty quiet for me, efficient & durable. Truly the only things that, anyone who has their head screwed on straight, should be concerned about in their vehicle.

Little late to the party, but thank you for your honest review. Before purchasing my G4 I went looking for reviews and quite honestly was starting to get frustrated because of the so called "expert" reviews. Then came across yours. The best ones I found were from actual owners like yourself. I love my car, wouldnt trade it, and Im so happy to have found your review.
Awesome fuel economy and affordable. 2 of the best things about the car. Hybrid fuel economy without worrying about batteries needing replacing after 8 years.
Great video, everybody craps on this car, it is a basic reliable car for around town, the rest of the auto makers should take note, easy to work on, great job
78 hp but very light car, so performance is not bad. I drove a 1996 Ford Escort LX for about 14 years, with the same power/weight ratio. Manual transmission made it fun to drive.
I have the ugly 2015 model, full options but without infotainment from new, now at 60.000 miles. Nothing broke. It needed 2 tyres, 2 times windsreen wipers and fluids. That's it. No measureable oil consumption. Average fuel consumption 50 mpg. Relatively comfy ride. Excellent heater and automatic air conditioning (same unit as in all far more expensive Mitsubishi models!). Strangely enough, the car drives best at 80 miles per hour, but as that is illegal here, I don't do that often. I agree that the cornering is not exciting, but I have discovered it has good cornering grip, probably due to its low weight. I will drive this thing until it falls apart.
I got a 2017 Mitsubishi mirage right before December 2023 for 7.7k USD and with 118k miles, and i love it! Since getting it, it's been the perfect car for a gig worker like me, and even without a back camera, i can see everything backing up perfectly. I even travel a lot on the highway, and it can go over 80 mph and handle it better than most other cars I've driven.
I took a 2024 through some of the Ohio rolling hills and it did absolutely fine. It's sluggish but it was never underpowered. With all seats filled, I could still hold speed and accelerate slowly up the steepest hills. Even steep and slightly muddy dirt roads weren't a problem. It's the definition of adequate and it's a perfect commuter. I drained the tank and cost me $20 to fill. My truck cost $100 to fill. For me, a slightly used Mirage would pay for itself within a year.
fair and square review... the gas consumption is the real winner for this car. same experienced with my 2017 Mirage. dont have any complain with regards to the car's performance. its gets the job done moving you from point A to point B.
Great video man, you don't see a lot of people modding the mirage. I think its a fun car I would like to see more people working on the performance level making these things into mini rockets. Keep up the good work 😃
Absolutely an honest opinion and a true to life and not those just made up. Great review! Keep up the good work. Easy and comprehensive. Thank you for assisting me with my decision.
I have been fascinated by the Mirage for a long time despite the bad reviews. It is true, however, that most consumer reviews are excellent. My wife and I just found out we are having our first kid and I decided to get rid of my worn out 03 sentra with no AC and finally buy one. I found a 2019 5 speed with 900 miles with warranty and decided to go for it. It is the G4 sendan and I like the hatch better, but it is practically new for 12k out the door. It is supposed to be delivered this week. I am really excited! I have always thought such a bare bones, 3 cylinder car was very cool and unique. Like a modern day Geo Metro. Thank you for the review. If it wasn't for honest reviews from actual owners like you I wouldn't have known what a great car this is.
Great review and i don't need any further endorsement about this car it's an absolute gem for the purpose it was designed for. Thank you for the time and effort to make this and to upload too 👍👍😁🇬🇧
This review was excellent! You absolutely validated my decision to add one to the stable as my daily/ winter driver. Ordered an ES 5 speed but everything that you said about your model applies to mine. Thanks very much! Looking forward to the ownership experience! Thank you so much and best to you and your family.
I have a 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage ES Plus. The 7" Screen CD which will play CD & DVD! Yes DVD Movie Player Built in. Turn off the picture while Driving and When the Car Stops The Screen Turns Back On! I love my Mirage I am getting 45 to 50 Mpg. City and 62 Mpg. Highway. And CVT and Super Fast Drive Sport Mode DS Takes off at the light... Love Love Love my car!! Warranty is 10 years 160,000. km Powertrain Warranty. 5 Years Limited Warranty. & 5 Years Unlimited Roadside Assistance.. 10-5-5 Awesome!!
Like the review of the Mirage and not a total trashing of the car. I had considered this car for a while and found it an acceptable car for a daily driver sadly the insurance companies have quoted me high rates and also got assinine financing so eventually I got turned off to the Mirage and even the last dealership I went to said I needed to pony up to a more mainstream car like a Kia Forte or a Toyota Yaris. Fine cars but above my price range. Eventually went to a 2017 Hyundai Accent and been very pleased with the car.
Honestly, Mitsubishi gets way too much grief. They make attractive and relatively inexpensive vehicles that carries the best warranty in the market. I think the Mirage would make a great car for my mother or daughter, or even me, if I was still commuting the way I once was. I recently bought an Eclipse Cross LE 2020, A fully loaded SUV just under 21k and adore it. Brand New, off the lot, with a 200k mile powertrain warranty. The critics abuse this company, but for no reason, as everyone I know who ACTUALLY OWNS one, loves it. I would buy Mitsubishi again and again.
Thank you so much for making this honest review! I’m about to pick up my new Mirage tomorrow! And I just wanted to see some honest reviews right before I make the purchase! Again thank you so much for your honesty. I trust what you say! Lastly, you pull off that orange very well Sir! So I definitely dig it! Thx again!
I love my Mirage, it's a great car. Timing chain, not a rubber belt, simple design, easy to maintain and great on gas. I bought a 5 speed manual for $4,000. Boom! For the price of tires I bought a certified used car.
Don't put semimetallic pads on these, they fade badly. Definitely go Ceramic. There's a lot you can do to improve the Mirage but if you're happy with basic transportation it's excellent value as it comes. if you can find a torsion beam stiffener for a reasonable price, I recommend.
I’m actually thinking of buying one for my first car. You can get such good deals on such a newer car. And the warranty on these things are great compared to me buying an 8 year old civic.
Enjoyed it. I have had a lot of cars over the last 60 years, sports, muscle, eurosports, etc., and my 2015 which I recently bought in near perfect shape with 26k on it for $6500 is probably dollar for dollar by far the best purchase I've ever made. I look for excuses to drive it. It has the CVT and gets 55.7 mpg at 60 mph. Incredible.
I think these cars could be for anyone. They make a good 2nd car to keep those commuter miles off the expensive hardware. They represent safe reliable transportation for a person on a budget too. I haven't driven one but if they're anything like the spark then the 5 speed is basically an awesome street legal go cart.
Kristian Hermann the seats are actually decent. Took it on a drive to Indianapolis the second or third week I had it and myself, and two adult passengers comfortably made the trip. She’s a good cruiser for sure.
I recommend going ahead and having your dealership replace that busted wheel sensor under warranty if they said no problem. Those things are like $200 per wheel.
I bought a brand new 2017 Mirage ES manual (with added Bluetooth, center armrest, & pulse lighting) in October of 2017. I paid $9299. It was $10,153.70 OTD (that everything tax, registration, documentation fees, new state plates, etc.), & the dealership delivered it to my home from 4 hours away. We did the paperwork on my kitchen table. If I had qualified for the loyalty or veteran rebates, this car would have been less. Not all dealerships are the same!
Commented a year ago. Still have the car. Still having fun. Putting an intake on in a week or two, waiting on parts. Looked at the 21 a few weeks ago and might buy one
I just bought a 2015 Mirage DE yes it's a used car but anyways I bought it for the same reasons you bought yours I live out in the boonies outside of Seattle and the gas is notoriously expensive here so thank you for your review and I enjoyed it, everything so far I've experienced with the car I really like it! 🚗
I got a 2014 DE CVT with 60k hard ubering miles on it. Great workhorse. Its critical you do the OEM fluid changes every 30k miles to expect to get 200k miles out of it. Unfortunately the Mirage has the same JATCO CVT7 that Nissan uses, but with way less documented evidence of premature CVT failure because of low curb weight, low hp & torque. Why did you change the serpentine belt? What were your symptoms to do that? Im thinking of doing the same thing but heard those belts are good for 100k miles easy.
magnuscat good assessment for sure! Yeah I did the belt because it was rather weathered and quite cracked. Also it was making some noise. Was an easy $20 fix.
I tested one of these a few months back from a rural dealer in the UK. Took it on some crappy back roads and was surprised how good the suspension was for soaking up the uneven surface. Definitely rode like a bigger car as usually cars in this class have very firm ride and you feel every imperfection. Plenty of power for the job. Unfortunately ive wanted a Subaru for a few years and ended up with the Outback instead ! Maybe I get the Mirage if I run out of money haha.
Nice review. I drove a manual for a test drive. I thought it felt like a small 4 cylinder with the stick. Do you use synthetic oil? How was your rear alignment? I know they had some issues from the factory..
Yeah it definitely gets the job done. Mine will be 5spd swapped soon. Rear alignment is verified good and there’s no issues with mine thankfully. Synthetic oil and amsoil CVT fluid is what I’ve always run. She’s well cared for :)
@Powershift Automotive have you tried the furry mod for your camera? I believe that it would help with the wind noise. I’m listening through a surround sound, so some sound are amplified, especially the lows.
Super vid, friend! My compliments. Do you think I could have a power sunroof installed, aftermarket of course, into the top of the line GT hatch? Please advise, friend. Happy '20! Peace...
Hi again. Please leave a link to that vehicle you mentioned above that a previous owner had an aftermarket sunroof installed, if you would. I'd sure appreciate it! Thanks again. Peace...♐
powershift name of channel...driving automatic.. i just test drove 5spd , 2020 MITSU MIRAGE es. that thing shifts FAST.and was plenty fast enought to drive around and highway. slightly slow off the line though, without doing anything to mitigate that using the clutch... def a louder car even at residential speeds
Paul McD Yeah absolutely, was considering doing a driving video down a nice windy road that is local to me. Was going to during this video but I had my daughter with me and traffic was heavy. I’ll make one for sure.
I had a new 2020 that looked identical to yours. I used to get 52mpg which was amazing for a gas powered econo-box. Car isn't made to get out of its own way but I can tell you I wouldn't buy another after someone hit me and it got demolished. All 3 airbags deployed and it looked like it got ripped open by a can opener. Entire dash board popped out as well and I wasn't hit at more than about 30/35mph. Total loss. I think 2024 is the last year they are making it as well.
Do you recommend the most basic version of the 2017 mirage ES at ~$7500 with 47k miles? I have a daily 30 mile (x2 to go home) interstate/highway commute that's 75mph. Can it handle those speeds? I wanted a car with good fuel economy and don't really care about feel, power, etc.
Sunil Kataria yeah if you don’t mind going without the Apple CarPlay and such I’d say do it. They’re fantastic cars. Yeah I cruise at well over 75 with mine.
Hello. I would love to buy a used 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage Hatchback. But I’m worried because it already has 222k mileage. Do you think it’s still safe to buy the car? It’s priced at $5,500 CAD.
That 3 cylinder is compelling. Imagining a 2021 facelift version with sway bars, 175 tires and sound insulation. The money saved on the car makes buying the aftermarket armrest kind of amusing eh
Ofcourse the wind has to interrup the audio.. You do a fantastic job explaining in detail the car's specifications. I been noticing at idle the motor shakes on mirages, does yours do that too?
Thanks for the review im in the UK and unfortunately I dont think we got the centre console screen otherwise I would be picking one up. Now the new model has been announced. Let's hope its as good👍
I had a 97 mirage. They have ruined the shape now! I now have a 07 Honda civic. I don't know if I wanna go back to one it could be going backwards. Civic is a 1.8l engine
I have one of these cars. Handles way better than people give credit, Compared to a lot of used vehicles i have owned. Only complaint i have is the sound of the starters lol i am even ok with the 78 hp it is plenty of power to do what i need it to do at any speed in my country. I am still wondering if i made the right choice with the cvt as i love stick shift
xr754 the armrest is rather great; has a strong amount of storage and is adjustable. The armrest pad can be slid into the perfect position and it’s lovely. Yes I have a custom intake on the car, it’s one that we made work using a universal bend, an AEM Dry Flo filter and some gold reflective tape and a maf adapter. Works very nicely and cut IATs down too!
You can get a lapel mic that plugs into your cell phone for $8 on eBay. Get one, you need one. You'll have to sync the audio later, yes, but it's hard to hear what you're saying. Your "production value" will skyrocket just with that better miking. Hope this helps. If you want more info or help, throw me an email. I'm happy to help. Thanks for the video, it was helpful to me and I appreciate it.
I had always been intrigued by these so I went down to Middletown Ford to test drive a used one with a 5 speed. I expected the car to be playful in the handling department but it under steered something fierce. I thought with the 3 cylinder growl, it would be fun to rev up, but it laid down at the top of the tach so abruptly I did not need the tach to know when to shift. I want a small car to feel like a go cart, nimble and scrappy. I drove a manual Fiesta with a large patch of bondo poorly integrated into the rear fender right after that (same dealership) and it seemed to fit the bill with decent power and handling. I am sure the mileage though, was not as good. After seeing your review, maybe my expectations need re-calibrated. Years ago I drove a Geo Metro rental for a month (my car was in the body shop) and enjoyed everything but the power. I even thought it handled well but maybe my memory fails....

It can cruise smoothly on 50mph (80km/hr) on highway. Mine is 5 speed manual.
I love my orange mirage, 5 speed!!!! I’ve gotten up to 57MPG!!!!
Awesome fuel economy and affordable. 2 of the best things about the car. Hybrid fuel economy without worrying about batteries needing replacing after 8 years.
This is the humble car you've ever had
Good vid mate definitely think of getting one of these
Paul McD thank you! I appreciate the feedback, you definitely should! It’s a great car for so many reasons. Glad you enjoyed the video
They are bullet proof im a proud owner of a mirage oil change every 3 thousand miles cheapest oil walmart p
A very fine review of the Mirage. It seems like all the "experts" pan this little car, but every owner seems to love them. Thanks for posting this.
Gooi er nexen nblue onder, de allweather banden. Standaard Bridgestone ecopia is bagger!
Keep up the good work 😃
J Sasiga I super appreciate this 😁 I do love this little car and it’s been a very good friend to me!
Absolutely an honest opinion and a true to life and not those just made up. Great review! Keep up the good work. Easy and comprehensive. Thank you for assisting me with my decision.
Best mirage video out there
Joes Golden Garage wow thank you! We really appreciate that!
I truly appreciate this comment. That literally means the world to me :) - Matt
These are absolutely my favorite types of videos
Nice review.I have a friend who gas one with 180k on it and he loves it.Do some more videos. Thanks
@ OP,
Where did you get the head mount for holding your phone? I want to do the same thing and I have just got me the Mirage!
I really wish the G4 version had a 60/40 rear bench seat.
You and I both. The one downfall I've had in my G4 compared to the hatch I sold
@@ThatOddGarage You could possibly find a junkyard Mirage (if one even exists) and unbolt the rear seats to swap it out with the ones in the G4.
@@sebastianrivera-tirado4309 they exist, but no that won't work unfortunately
How are the seats on long drives? There's no height adjust, which I do like on my current car. Thanks for the vid 👍
Those things are like $200 per wheel.
palebeachbum it’s just an issue of finding the time with my insane work schedule
I love my 2017 102k in the dash judt had oil analysis done .. everything is looking great best buy I ever made ..
Awesome video. I too have to drive a lot for work and my daughter. I have the Honda Fit but the Mirage gets better MPG and I would have picked it.
Commented a year ago. Still have the car. Still having fun. Putting an intake on in a week or two, waiting on parts. Looked at the 21 a few weeks ago and might buy one
Had you considered the Chevy Spark during your buying decision?
I just bought a 2015 Mirage DE yes it's a used car but anyways I bought it for the same reasons you bought yours I live out in the boonies outside of Seattle and the gas is notoriously expensive here so thank you for your review and I enjoyed it, everything so far I've experienced with the car I really like it! 🚗
Go look into the daox rear sway bar
@@powershiftautomotive6107 Did you do it yourself or a Mitsu dealer?
magnuscat all work is done by us
I tested one of these a few months back from a rural dealer in the UK.
@@powershiftautomotive6107 great! It really is a nice car for the money.
I use synthetic oil.Never tried regular.
@Powershift Automotive have you tried the furry mod for your camera? I believe that it would help with the wind noise. I’m listening through a surround sound, so some sound are amplified, especially the lows.
During this video I had some issues with my mic. I’ve resolved them :)
Super vid, friend! My compliments. Do you think I could have a power sunroof installed, aftermarket of course, into the top of the line GT hatch? Please advise, friend. Happy '20! Peace...
AladdinSaneNYC yeah I’m sure it would be possible to have it done. A car on our channel has an aftermarket sunroof installed by a previous owner :)
Hi again. Please leave a link to that vehicle you mentioned above that a previous owner had an aftermarket sunroof installed, if you would. I'd sure appreciate it! Thanks again. Peace...♐
Do you still have your Maroge? If so, how many miles and how has it been?
powershift name of channel...driving automatic.. i just test drove 5spd , 2020 MITSU MIRAGE es. that thing shifts FAST.and was plenty fast enought to drive around and highway. slightly slow off the line though, without doing anything to mitigate that using the clutch... def a louder car even at residential speeds
Would you mind posting the link for the armrest you got?

I'd love to find one
Could you do video off full driving session of the car
Paul McD Yeah absolutely, was considering doing a driving video down a nice windy road that is local to me. Was going to during this video but I had my daughter with me and traffic was heavy. I’ll make one for sure.
@@powershiftautomotive6107 great man look forward to seeing it
Thanks for watching :)
Just bought a 2020 :)
Great Video! the Mitsubishi Mirage is a great daily car!
@@powershiftautomotive6107 thanks
Hello. I would love to buy a used 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage Hatchback. But I’m worried because it already has 222k mileage. Do you think it’s still safe to buy the car? It’s priced at $5,500 CAD.
I love mine also, especially the milage!
And now we know who does the Chris Griffin voice
Alen Dede bahaha you got me.
That 3 cylinder is compelling. Imagining a 2021 facelift version with sway bars, 175 tires and sound insulation. The money saved on the car makes buying the aftermarket armrest kind of amusing eh
It runs fine in snow?
Your trans whine is pretty loud, make sure to change the fluid and both filters.
I live in the Cincinnati OH area just south of Dayton. What dealer ship did you get this at and what kind if deal did they give you?
Ironcially I purchased my car at CarMax in Columbus Ohio :)
Ofcourse the wind has to interrup the audio.. You do a fantastic job explaining in detail the car's specifications. I been noticing at idle the motor shakes on mirages, does yours do that too?
Moé Ramirez unfortunately it was insanely windy when I filmed this haha. Thank you so much. :) yeah the factory motor mounts are very soft it seems.
The most honest review. Thank you!
I wonder if you can put a bike in there. My 2008 scion xD fits my bike.
Thanks for the review im in the UK and unfortunately I dont think we got the centre console screen otherwise I would be picking one up. Now the new model has been announced. Let's hope its as good👍
Great video 👍
Thanks very much. 🤓
I run a 2016 model in the UK.
I do 5 miles a day…..
It should last forever 😂
Keep up the good work!
Thanks for this great review. Scotty does not give Mitsu good props but your review changed my opinion. What is body roll?
More volume please.
I preferred the design of the sedan as opposed to the hatchback.
Thank you for the feedback:) I didn’t have my microphone setup quite right how I wanted it.
How is that arm rest working out? Also do you have an aftermarket intake?
xr754 the armrest is rather great; has a strong amount of storage and is adjustable. The armrest pad can be slid into the perfect position and it’s lovely.
Yes I have a custom intake on the car, it’s one that we made work using a universal bend, an AEM Dry Flo filter and some gold reflective tape and a maf adapter. Works very nicely and cut IATs down too!
Nice informative video I have been thinking about purchasing one if these cars. This helps thank you.
