Thanks for the memories! 50 years ago I watched my grandfather weld Corvairs together. You are a wonderful person for sharing your life experience with others. I am building an airplane with a VW engine, and watching you motivates me to reach for the stars with the Lords guidance!
I discovered years ago that those old VW dune buggies were the perfect vehicles for my rocky, rutted and muddy roads. Finding one that was built with your expertise was near impossible and could be pricey. I enjoy watching you work and TALK, I'll return. Many thanks.
G'day Mr EZGZ, It always makes my day to see one of your videos pop up. How easily we toss these old ways aside. Thank you for jogging the old noggin. I'm going to revisit this technique on my current build. I watch a channel called Bad Chad he uses coat hangers. No fancy tools. A welder, hand grinder, and a hammer. So thanks for sharing I'm looking forward to following along. ✌️ Peace man from Melbourne Australia.
That takes me back to 1977 when l did gas welding as part of my engineering apprenticeship. I have only one grandson who has just turned 2 years old, who is Beetle mad and loves watching me working on mine and pass me the spanners. He has also gradually acquired all of my Beetle toy cars so hopefully a future enthusiast ...😊
I haven’t even made it through the whole video yet but, you look like you are feeling great! Makes me happy to see you feeling good. Thanks for the video. Take care.
Great to show the kids your passion for Vw’s ❤ my uncle show me wen I was a kid, he was in to Ford hot rods, but I died just a mont ago , Rest In Peace 😔.. but he learn me some stuff, and I got the gasoline in my blood 😂 thank you 💫
I'm with you there, we've got to teach the kids to do as much as possible, no one else is going to give them all that valuable information nowdays. Happy date mate 🤣😂
Great vid Greg! I love welding with oxy/ace I definitely have the most practice with it. Whats nice is you can weld thick and thin metal, bend and cut all with one tool. I have a old torch set, mig(which i use for smaller stuff) and arc which i never use but got it for free. I had welders poisoning once it was horrible i thought I was dying, i was actually showing my friend how to weld with a torch welding 1/4 plate with a welding magnet from harbor freight(red arrow magnet. I actually melted the magnet and burnt all the red paint off and boy did that do me in! Thanks for another great video catch you on the flip side!
Wow. Can't believe how quick you got your garage cleaned out. Great to see another video. That's some cool welding. Reminds me of my grandfather fixing harvesters and plows on the farm.
I graduated from A&P school in 1980. Back then you had to demonstrate ox/acet welding on the practical test. Now they don't make you weld to get issued your A&P certificate. I've been both gas and tig welding over 45 years. Any youngster that shows an interest I try to help them gain welding experience.
When I was doing a lot of gas welding I would keep a block of wood close by to clear the tip when something would clog the tip and cause that whistling, just rub the tip on the wood with the flame your using and it will clear it.
We love YOU EZ, in my hometown there used to be a muffler shop that welded with coat hangers, like you say ; old school🤘if you have a list of parts/cars you want to sell let me know, Keep ON KEEPING ON!! 👌
You're, the man, EZ Geezee! Great, thought of taking your grandson out in the garage! Show him, how to make android things, yourself. That will stick with him! C...W.... OUT!

Can you tell me if a 68 swingaxle can be swapped for a 63 and vice-versa? I believe the axles on a 68 are slightly longer. I'm fixing up the 68 for my granddaughter with a stock 1500 and the 63 has a lower geared 3rd and 4th. They're both Baja. Or would it be better to change out the axles when I do the swap? I'm taking them both out to clean everything up and do a little maintenance anyway so any help would be appreciated.
The 68 is a 4:12 Ring and pinion and is clearanced for a 12 volt flywheel and starting motor. You can replace the starter bushing for a 6 volt starter or go the other way. The 63 is 4:37 RP and is weaker in several area's but will handle a 1500 just fine. Lower gears for bigger tires is always good if your low on power.
@TheEZGZ thanks for the response, TH-cam videos like yours are helpful. I forgot to mention that the 63 came with a 1600 DP and converted to 12 volt when I bought it. The previous owner told me the transaxle was from Rancho I believe. Anyway its very low geared especially in 3rd and 4th so I wanted to pair it with the 68 1500. The 63 now has a 2110, dual Webers, cam, heads, etc. Seems like I'm geared way too low for that much power. Obviously it would be way easier to just swap engines but for other reasons I don't want to go that route. Thanks again

True craftsmanship!! Keep up the great work and videos. Great to pass on to the younger generation!! Thank you.
You bet! These youngsters need to make all the mistakes we did. hehehe

R.I.P. Good that folks show the kids how to do things for themselves.
It's great to see ya feeling great

Well said!
Cool . Good to let all the young ones see and get a taste for the car world . If lucky they will want to try working with their hands a bit .
Awesome! Glad you decided to move forward on the project!

I am feeling better now that I have found a new project.
Really brought back memories. Thank you
Somebody is gotta mess with those tricky little ancient vw wrecks. Everybody deals with those big block trucks, muscle cars and such.
Yay, it’s EZ time!!
Thanks Gary

Love the project Bud!!!!
Thanks, More to come
Old school is cool. Not much of those techniques around. Good work!
I still have a pile of old metal coat hangers…. I can’t tell you how many things I’ve brazed together over the years.
Your the man.

Where can we get an EZGZ shirt?!?!
I never got enough input to think folks would want one. It gets complicated
