A Quiet Place: Day One takes us to New York to experience the beginning through a different perspective. I really appreciated the simplistic human approach to the characters' journey but was incredibly frustrated with getting no expansion of the world and creatures.

The vet underwater I was like is got those 9 lives
I have to tell you, I did once own a cat that was silent pretty much all the time. She had a broken meow; whenever she tried to meow not much came out of her mouth and she never hissed, so she could have lived in A Quiet Place 😊
The answer I had for the cat is that Lupita's character says its a service animal. I couldn't tell if she was just saying that, but I took it as truth. Service animals are trained not to make noise, like dogs are trained not to bark at people.
I thought so too 😅
I’m not sure the cat not making a lot of noise needed a huge explanation, animals are extremely adaptable and if humans could figure out not to make noise it doesn’t seem like a huge stretch that at least some animals would figure out not to make noise
Just happened to search your channel to see if you'd reviewed this and it was published 32 seconds ago. Nice!
Turn those notifications on cut put the guess work friend
Didn’t realize you were a fan of Cody. Go Giants!
Hope you enjoy it!
@mackattack315 need a W tonight! Yeah I'm a fan; we have similar movie tastes so if he says it's good I can usually trust I'll like it. With a few exceptions (the Beekeeper 😆)
@@CodyLeachYT I did!! Totally agree with your review. The cat was too much 🐈
Get Frodo an Oscar because he had my anxiety going throughout the whole movie. I just knew he was gonna meow and get everybody taken out 😅
I'd expect the cat to be sitting in the audience at the next Oscar's as a joke lol
You mean the CGI kitty?
I have a very quiet cat. It almost never makes a sound, and when it does, it scares me because I dont know why it is doing it. It took it such a loooong time to meow that I believed it was a mute cat.
I agree❤ I have 2 tuxedo cats Kate & Kris and they have polar opposite personalities. Kris is full of energy, bounces off the walls, and is very vocal. Kate tip toes around and is on stealth mode 24/7 and she doesn’t meow. She will only make eye contact and grunt at me when it’s feeding time and she only hisses when Kris plays too much. I believe it possible for cats to survive an alien invasion. Plus i like to think felines and other species possession a heightened sense of danger and that act accordingly. Like if that were to ever happen they would intuitively know to remain quiet. I honestly think cats stand a better chance than us humans bc they already have pads on their feet and their stealth skills are on 100😂
Ive had 3 cats in my life which have all been borderline silent. One of them only ever meowed when he was left alone for hours or in pain, the other only meows when shes pissed off and our most recent one meows when he wants food/attention. Besides that cats are usually very very quiet in my experience
I thought cats only developed the meow to communicate in most part with humans. Cats in the wild don’t meow for the most part
I had a cat that was so silent because his larynx was damaged so I totally understand Frodo not meowing.
As for the actors, Joseph Quinn gave me young Robert Downey Jr vibes and that was so heartwarming and made me quite nostalgic. He was incredible in his role and made humanity more bearable at that moment in time.
I didn’t expect the lore to be explored in this prequel. I am quite happy with the way it was. I thought it was riveting from start to finish and I loved every second of it ❤
OMG! I thought Quinn reminded me of Downey Jr also. Well prolly others will get that too! Good job!😃
Definitely I thought his mannerisms was like downey when I saw him in stranger things. He looks and acts a little like him especially 90s downey.
I have a cat also that rarely ever meows while I have 2 others that are vocal in if they want something or anything.
@@tracyb64 he’s definitely very close to RDJ in terms of mannerisms! Did you enjoy this movie?
@@ILikeTheIvy it made me nostalgic for the 90s with RDJ 😅
After the first 15 minutes or so I was feeling checked out…and then the movie ended and I was like NOOOO GIVE ME MORE. So yea, safe to say it was a really well done movie with engaging characters. The acting was a masterclass from those two. As far as a horror movie it was ok, but just as a movie in general, it exceeded my expectations and was truly beautifully done.
Same
I definitely can see a concept for A Quiet Place chronicles tv series.
And about the cat, you forgot that the cat is a service/therapy cat. And it’s paramount that service animals are trained to remain quiet and calm in chaotic and loud environments. And they’re also trained to pick up on anxiousness and nervousness in people, so it explains why it followed Joseph Quinn’s character at times.
The cat is a support animal. He acted exactly how he should have. 👍🏾
She did say in movie the cat is a service cat so not meowing and especially hissing wouldn't be allowed. It was trained to be such a "chill" cat. I also have met cats that just down meow
One thing that I’ll say about the cat not reacting like how a cat would react in that situation, the explanation is that it’s a therapy cat, and they are trained to be cool under stressful environments, so it makes sense it didn’t react like that, not sure about it being submerged under water, you may have a fair point with that, that being said, my sister has a therapy cat as well, and he not only looks like the cat in the movie, but personally-wise they’re pretty much the same, loves everyone, he’s calm and always checks to see how everyone is, it was at a point where my sister and I joke that secretly her cat was selected for the movie.
The cat was explained in the first 3 minutes
I’m a HUGE movie lover/fanatic and aspiring actress. I have already watched 20 movie releases in the movie theater including A Quiet Place Day One. I throughly enjoyed this movie. I think it will end up staying in my top ten favorite movies of 2024. This was another good movie review Cody. ❤❤❤❤
A Quiet Place is shaping up to be one of the most consistently good horror franchises.
Horror? This one was good?
The scene in the Jazz club was beautiful.
I have 4 cats (huge cat lover.. have had them my whole life) and it’s actually kinda common to have cats not be vocal. Two of the 4 I have right now RARELY make a sound.they never meow, and Ellie will randomly make a quiet little chirp sound every once in a blue moon lol.
I think the studio should consider djmoun hounsou his own quiet place spin off
Agreed!!!
Gotta be real, the apocalypse comes, i would want NYC pizza for my last meal too.
Exactly. Pizza 🍕is just so yummy! Also, eventually she would have run out of food and then she would have to venture out into the city to get some more food in order to survive & stay alive. Food eventually runs out and then you would have to go out and get more, otherwise you would die from starvation.
Love this review! I saw it this Saturday, OMG that cat!!! You nailed how I felt about that cat & about learning something new about these creatures and D.H. - I wanted more!
I've been following your channel for a while, but I just wanted to comment and point out how much I love your review style....positives, negatives and middletakes. It gives so much more inside to every movie and has actually swayed my opinion on wanting to see a film a few times.
This movie was surprisingly beautiful, and I didnt expect that...wonderful. As for Frodo the cat...establishing the setting in a community style living situation helps with the cat not meowing as often, her walking with it leashed trained establishes that it will look for her lead. Was it a service cat, probably, but if not. The only stretching I had to do was the (spoiler)
Water scenes.
I really liked and performances were great.
Agreed. We needed more Djimon Hounsou.
They must retcon what they did to Djimon in Quiet Place 2
me didnt like cats before but years ago a stray orange cat made me love them and now have 3
the two movies are both great, slightly preferred the more aliens and T2 approach to the second movie where it upped the action but still left in lots of horror elements, hopefully this one is on par with the others
Speaking for myself….i have no issue or qualm with this story not expanding the lore or learning anything really new because it is literally day one so the people won’t know what to do or how to adapt so soon in the beginning. 🤷♂️
One possible new info from this movie: the monster's weakness is water
I would have liked some sort of backstory to the aliens
About seven months ago, I would’ve agreed with you on the cat situation, but I recently adopted a cat and this cat plays in the shower and in the tub after I’m out of the shower, not care about it being wet or anything plays in the water so the only thing I can figure out he must’ve been born in the bathtublol
Plan on seeing this on Sunday.
Very similar to "The First Purge": A prequel set in New York that gives us absolutely no answers to why or how everything started
The concept is wearing off. Hard pass.
Yeah but I’ll say this is MUCH better than First Purge.
@@CodyLeachYT I think the bad sushi I purged last night was better than First Purge.
I hope the third and final film explains why the aliens arrived on Earth.
I'm a fan of character driven horror so I appreciate this and the review. Ignoring the cat comments
I want a sequel to this film.
I was going to say there's 2 sequels to this, but then a realised what a joke was
This was basically the prequel to part 2 kinda
DAY 1O
it dosent need one,

@11:13...FINALLY...Someone else shares my sentiments.
A detailed balanced review 👍 nice one Cody.
Took my folks to watch this Thursday night, and they really enjoyed it - my mom surprised me by really wanting to see this, she said she'd seen both the original and sequel and was excited for this one. Definitely a worthy prequel. I found myself attached to the two leads, especially in this movie Lupita and Quinn were great here.
Love your videos ❤
The way this lad smooths his way into his sponsors is a art
The cat in this movie not making a sound except the occasional purr took me out of the movie. Also the flooded subway tunnel scene made me wonder if the third rail of the subway wouldn’t electrify the water. Maybe the electricity was completely turned off. That is hard to believe in New York.
I've had a few quiet cats. Also, the cat was a service animal.
Was it a stretch? Yes, it was. But no worse then bullet proof aliens that hunt by sound.
Also I've read that depending on the area, lacking maintenance to the grid in as little as a day can kill it.
Woah the cat slander! 😂 ❤
although not the chaotic fast paced thriller I was expecting, the beautifully tragic human story came as a surprise although not what I wanted it was still good
What do you mean? What did they cut from the test screenings?
The fact that this movie doesn't tell you anything new about the aliens or how humanity learned they had to be quiet, and the way they adapted this knowledge to survive is why I knew I didn't need to see this film. They already showed what happened on Day One in the beginning of A Quiet Place, Part Two. This is just more of the same.
I have a cat that only meows if she's put in her carrier when I take her to the vet. Otherwise she never makes a sound. Vet said some cats are like that.
may i ask what scene/moment were you referring to that was cut down from the test screening? i am trying to remember if anything peculiar happened but the only things i can think of are the drowning and the zoom in on the ear?
I think it’s when the cat takes Joseph Quinn to the construction site.
I feel we're going to get a few more of these movies that will link everything together.. like where does that boat go? How did Henri get from NYC to the location in part 2..endless stories and im here for it...also my local theaters webiste to buy tickets had a giant space ship floating over NYC but no mention in it in the movie
I enjoyed it because I was invested in the 2 characters pretty early on. I seen this as just another pov from a different perspective but if it’s true there’s a fourth in the works that’ll probably explain more but I kind of like the mystery of not knowing their origin
I love the mystery of the monsters. Seeing them through the characters eyes is scary as we just don’t know, which is how it would be in real life.
It was a solid movie, but I need more information on creatures. The invasion was few and far between. I agree it is so much they can tell in this universe. They can do a movie on military point of view to see how to beat the creatures or failed in doing so. They could do a NASA point of view. The satellites should pick them up on their radar. Did they land on Earth on purpose, or was it accidentally? Snakes on a plane type of thing but instead a few creatures on big cruise boat. Or I Am Legend type of movie where we get key information to really fight back against them. So much to explore.
I am waaaaaaay more pumped for part III. That's one of my most anticipated movies from next year. This is just a filler movie. I want to know how it'll end. I really don't care how it began TBH.
Spoilers: they kill the monsters
One thing I wish we could’ve seen was the ship attack that the man from 2 spoke of. We kinda saw it, but I wish we got more. And yeah, that whole egg scene was really strange. I thought we would’ve expanded on it, but then nothing came up again, so I was just confused 😭
I love Dijimon Housu's villain roles. I believe just like Christoph Waltz both gentleman outshine in their movies when they are playing the villain. He is fantastic in The Island (B action movie that aside from the main villain has nothing to offer.) He was also terrifying in Alita Battle Angel.
Now I'm curious what happend with the monsters in the Testscreening version 😮
Same 😅
Does anyone know what the cut stuff was?
I’m going to go see it tomorrow!
Side note: can you do a review to train to Busan
Dude where did u get that Terrifier shirt I need it
love you cody 😤
I'm sure some people will complain that we don't learn more about the aliens but it was ok from me as enjoyed this one and, since I'm a cat lover, I love Frodo. (Someone in production must be a Lord of the Rings fan as get Sam and Frodo here) My guess that we'll learn some more about the aliens when the final film is release sometime next year.
I like that terrifier shirt
Shame we didnt get a full view of your shirt
For my part I'd like to see more sound related battles. I hate that it took two movies for the characters to figure out they can use sound to their advantage. How stupid do these characters have to be that they couldn't figure out that feedback hurt the sound aliens.
Theres a good chance they killed the cat early on and it tested poorly. Id also add that the ending does answer some questions about humanity
Where did you get that terrifier shirt?
I agree completely about the wandering questions it’s really frustrating I thought it was also a good movie but it was a missed opportunity that could have explored a really cool world
Really wanted to see Cody’s review for this film, Loved this film, the ending was heartbreaking
I never was a fan of the first two, but i liked this one the best. I enjoyed it. I do agree with Cody that i wish they did explore more of the series lore and brought something new to the table. But still, it was entertaining. 👍🏾
Just like Austin Burke's channel, Cody is also ANTI-CAT! 😂😂😂
You love that Terrifier 3 shirt huh lol I would too if I had one. Gotta get me a Art Tee.
Overall, it sounds like a fun time
My thoughts were that this was the NYC alien invasion movie that Cloverfield wishes it could be.
While it’s not as good as the first (maybe on par or a bit better than the second), there’s an incredibly human element to this story. The characters bond over the smallest things and help each other endure their hardships.
While it doesn’t add to the lore, it doesn’t really need to (maybe we’re getting that in part 3).
Day One introduced the Big Death Angels and the eggs
This movie is a drama
Very minimal tension
Great human story
Watching your channel with no pants on is my new thing
@CodyLeach huge fan and I love this film franchise so much that actually I’m going to go see this one in Florida with my brother and his wife as well as my parents while, I’m on vacation either Sunday or Monday before my parents and I fly back home to Ohio so, I can’t wait.
I may be mistaken but the film does offer new lore when it comes to the egg sac looking things that the aliens are eating. It may explain what they do with humans since we don't see them eat humans.
Yeah. I was wondering what was going on with that scene.
When are we getting the maxxxine review? Love your videos by the way ! :)
Cool review and nice to see the good, the mix and bad which it's more good than the other 2. I honestly would've like that they left the scenes of learning more about the creatures since it's always fun or curious to see more about them.
I do comment because you mention the cat and that you're not a fan of them which it's funny since i have a cat visiting everyday and i got attach to her that i pet her and give her food and water and surprise me that she's not that needy or go meowing all the time to the point of irrirating, she's very calm and she likes to pet her more than giving her food lol.
Different experience i guess and hope one day you get to know a cat that's not a total A-hole lol
Watched it the other night. No tension at all, releyed on jump scares too much. Not a patch on the first two
The performances saved this movie. The cats included. The main characters motivation is relatable but kind of an odd choice of story. Would have liked to seen a little bit more to build interest in the characters before the invasion. But the studio knows you cant go to long without showing the aliens. Story kind of felt like 2 people and a cat that i dont care about go for pizza during the apocalypse which kind of had me like wtf. But i think the actors did the best with the story at hand. As a side story in the universe not bad. But as a day one prequel pretty disappointed. Good review as always though Cody
So basically long story short metaphorically, a quiet place day one is supernatural no no no no here it is here it is, a quiet place day one is the paranormal activity version of the marked ones side stories in the same universe
I wanted to go see The Watchers or Day One anyone have a recommendation? Thanks
I’m a HUGE movie lover/fanatic especially horror movies and aspiring actress. I’ve already watched 20 movie releases in the movie theater this year including the Watchers and A Quiet Place Day One. The Watchers was just ok to me but A Quiet Place Day One was a good movie so I would choose the latter. ❤❤❤❤
This is twice the movie that The Watchers is.
@@clarissawestbrook2203 I love horror movies as well, I’m just getting into though. I seen everyone recommending Day One and I seen it Friday I loved it so much! Thank you!
If it's day one we wouldn't know much but we do get the egg scene, so we know that. The military are announcing to keep quiet and to head to the water - again maybe be told how they figured out that ... maybe it's an alien / aliens where the next one will be a military perspective .. who knows.
Has someone uploaded a TH-cam video yet over dubbing fart noises right before the monsters attack? I haven’t seen it, but I’m sure it exists.
In my attempt to find such a video I came across a parody trailer named "A quiet fart" which was pretty hilarious so 😂😂😂. There's that I guess
I watched it in 4dx so I'm bias and loved it cause it was fun lol
The cat was the real star of the film👍☺️
Lol you rant about cats that you don't like and then there is a cat behind your left shoulder. (iconic from pet cemetery)
That cat about to jump Cody for talking shit about his people 😂
@@willg1315 I hope so
I completely agree with you. I thought the movie was good, but ultimately, it was extremely inconsequential. I was hoping for some back story to the monsters. Some big insight to warrant a prequel, but ultimately, there was nothing really of note here. It is a good film, but to me, it just fell a little bit short of what i was hoping for. I'm sure the vagueness of it all was done on purpose, or like you said, it probably didn't hit well with the test audience, and therefore it was removed. Maybe it was for the better. I do think that not knowing the reason behind the attack on earth is interesting, but i just don't think this movie really warranted existing. It just felt like a quiet place movie set in a different location with different characters and no real substance to it. If this was the first movie that released, then I think it would have worked much better. Overall though, i agree with you. It's a good movie, but nothing about it really warrants it a "must see" movie.
I was actually thinking less Djimon Hounsou. Only because, I think a better use for him would've been in a mid or end credits scene. I just feel that would've put him to better use since he was featured so little. The cat was more of a focus than even the aliens. At least it was worth a watch for the performances.
Now I've not seen either the first nor the second one, but hearing this being called Day One, I thought, OK, so going to explain how they found out these things hunt by sound. Hearing, no pun intended, that they don't explain that makes me think, what's the point? Also, I do like cats more so than you, but asking me to believe that a cat wouldn't make noise, that's stretching my disbelief too far, that might be a bit too jumping the shark for me. But anyways, enjoyed the video. Thank you, Cody.
Totally appreciate your review. Similar to what you said at the end, I think they may never give an explanation as to why the monsters are here because, sometimes, giving a specific answer can alienate fans. Also, in a way, not having an answer as to why the aliens are here is somewhat scarier. It feels more chaotic. If aliens ever invaded us in real life, we are not necessarily owed an answer as to why. Similar to some breakups where you don’t get closure, not having an answer can cause more anxiety, and I think that level of anxiety benefits the movies in this particular franchise. You don’t really know what the fuck is going on, and that level of tension is almost a character in itself. Anyways, as always, love your work
This whole movie summer should be titled... Been There, Done That.
Hope you had a nice break
The cat justification by those commenting is insane. Even if we assume that service cats wouldn’t hiss at those creatures, the cat WALKING around would make noise like it did with the bell early on. It’s impossible to believe but somehow tons of you allowing a suspension of reality.
Cody, while I agree with u 100% with the cat and I was actually beggin it to meow just 1 damn time lol, im thinkin maybe it was really Lupita's service cat and that line wasnt intended as a joke after all 🤷♂️.
Still dug the movie ⭐⭐⭐ outta 4
I agree he is a phenomenal actor and one of my biggest inspirations!
Death Angels actually eating Space FUNGUS scene hasn’t been talked about enough but probably cause that’s all we know about now.🤷🏻
What was the snippet of revealed, new monster behavior? I cannot think of what that was
when they were eating during that scene where Eric’s rescuing Frodo?
@@gregflip5938 That must be it
I've noticed that recently franchises don't even bother to keep the main story lines going, they just put out prequels and spinoffs and call it "just another chapter in this universe" and call it a day, just to keep banking on the ip. They have made some pretty good "chapter" movies so far, but this will go very wrong very quickly
