Call me weird but Shelton's death always made me burst out laughing, not even because he was an antagonist but because it's so random and the face he makes when he gets shot
I always though that is so stupid. There is no way that any army school would not teach to look what kind of ammunition you have in your gun. That's basically one of the most taught gun safety tip. You would see immediately that the guns have live ammo.
3:11 #10: The Terminator is a Slasher 5:55 #9: The Exorcist III is better than The Exorcist 9:30 #8: Friday the 13th (1980) sucks! 14:08 #7: Halloween III: Season of the Witch is the 2nd best of the Halloween Franchise 18:12 #6: Freddy Krueger can survive without Robert Englund 24:10 #5: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 remake is the best of the franchise 28:33 #4: Terminator: Dark Fate is a great sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day 43:23 #3: Child’s Play 3 is better than the original 48:05 #2: Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn is my least favorite of the franchise 52:58 #1: Rob Zombie’s Halloween II is one of the best in the Halloween franchise.
Eh perfect is a bit of a stretch. It looks like a late 90s industrial video and its more based on the reputation of the original film rather than the actual film. The Zeitgeist chainsaw massacre is a more apt title.
It's a texas chainsaw movie where the main girl looks right out of the oos singing a song about alabama. And that's just the beginning of the issues it has.
I didn’t even realize calling the OG Terminator a slasher was controversial. It’s my favorite film and one of the reasons is how it mixes action, sci-if, slasher and romance so well
I get weird looks when I put it in my top 10 favorite horror films list. It’s the very definition of a horror movie with a Sci-Fi twist rather than a supernatural one. It has all the hallmarks of a slasher movie but they’re all done to perfection. You have an unstoppable killer that doesn’t show emotion for a justified plot reason that makes the killer genuinely terrifying. You have a phenomenal final girl in Sarah Connor who never feels too helpless to the point of annoyance but not too strong that it feels forced and unrealistic for a waitress to be badass. She has to use what she has learned and her wits to win. The nudity and sex in the movie are one of the few instances I can think of where it is necessary for the plot. It shows the T-800 is a force to be reckoned with even when he’s at a complete disadvantage for a normal human. It puts Kyle Reese in a relatable underdog position where he has to use his wits to survive. The sex scene is the culmination of Sarah and Kyle’s relationship and the thing that leads to the birth of John Connor and closing the time loop as we know it in T1. To not call it horror feels like an insult to horror. Like “horror can’t be this good.” It’s the same issue people tend to raise when Hannibal Lecter properties are classified as thrillers or when modern movies call themselves “elevated horror.” Just like any genre, horror can be schlocky but it can also be great art.
Not to mention, the villain technically kills the hero. I feel like even if the bomb wouldn’t have done it, the beatings he took and the one bullet would’ve eventually done Kyle in.
As awesome as T2 is, I've always thought the original Terminator was better. I was slightly obsessed with that movie ever since I saw it on cable in the 80s.
The Exorcist is better movie imo but that's partly due to the 3 characters other than Regan. Also, themes of losing faith, the fear and frustration of having a sick child, etc.
@@playedout148yes, in my opinion it's 2 films in 1. As a childless person, you fear the paranormal. When you watch As a parent, you feel it 1000x more intensely from the mother's perspective and fear being helpless when you're child needs you. It completely turns into a brand new movie when you get the life experience of being a parent.
My hot take - Jurassic Park is a full on horror movie. I still to this day don’t understand Joe it was marketed as a kids/family movie 😂 I saw it in the theater, my cousin was crying, kids were getting taken out of the theater, I’ve heard of kids throwing up during it.
Started it with my young kid the other day and realized that it was scary as fuck. Had to stop the movie when the T-Rex appears because he was shitting his pants 😅
You're on-track about the horror/comedy balance being exactly the thing Evil Dead's fans most appreciate about the movie. Binge Return Of The Living Dead, Dead Alive (Braindead in New Zealand), Reanimator, and Evil Dead 2 with friends & beer in one focused Splatstick Horror/Comedy weekend and it may help crystallize your understanding & appreciation of the subgenre. Maybe do it in the reverse order stated above, though, if you want an escalating-quality experience. I swear ROTLD gets better each time i watch it over the years.
My horror movie hot take? Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, is one of my favorite movies in the franchise. Great action, Kane Hodder is at is best as Jason, and I really felt for Tina Shepard and the journey she went on. Plus, despite everyone's complaints about the lack of gore, everyone remembers the sleeping bag kill.
If it wasn't for the watered down kills I would agree with you. The Doctor is arguably the biggest a hole in the franchise and that's all we get for his kill? I agree with your point about the sleeping bag kill being iconic though and by far the dopest looking Jason.
Not sure its a hot take honestly, lots of people recognize its not a really good movie, but its still a ton of fun watching Jason fight Carrie. Thats the way I feel about it personnaly.
Discovered your channel with your Chris Stuckman video and decided to give you a chance with this video... After agreeing with some of your takes (including the Dark Fate one), I'm subscribing.
Even Ryan Hollinger did a vid a few years back talking about how it’s a slasher. I don’t really consider it horror, but I can see the points for why some have classified it as such
Funny enough, one of the main reasons why i joined your channel was finding out through a Chunk of your videos that you and me have VERYYYY SIMILAR mindsets on our love for everything horror, finding out that your top friday film was final Friday and your respect/appreciate for Halloween 2 those were the main reasons why i love ya and your channel. I wish you many years of success with YT etc!!
Here's a hot take: I think the Sarah Connor Chronicles is actually the best sequel to the first two films in the Terminator franchise. (I'm aware that it is a show but it's the movie we should have gotten and it was cut short before it concluded.)
@@armsofserpent I can understand people that missed the show and never watched it but I don't think anyone can seriously say the sequels after T2 had better writing. The show is far superior even on a TV budget.
What are you doing Tyler? We’re playing hide the soul. We don’t play with dolls do we now Tyler? Clean that up. Lol. I think the part in the elevator in the original is funnier though. Ugly doll. F you! Lol
As someone who really enjoyed Salvation (and to a lesser extent, Genisys), I appreciate your breakdown of Dark Fate. My issue is more one of internal consistency / time loop reasons: how could John Connor have sent Kyle Reese back in time if he got killed? I can get past the creative choice and enjoy the new story direction, but it’s just hard for me to get past how it “unmakes” the first movie.
Rob Zombie’s sequel did have a rushed schedule and some things didn’t turn out how Rob wanted but it still succeeded more than Madame Web did in what it was trying to do
I was the guy at MadMonster today who yelled hello from his car as you were walking up. Wish we could’ve spoken at the event, especially about H2; But nevertheless it was still cool to see you. I’ve always been such a fan of how you champion and lift up that film. You honor it well for all of us diehards. That is a film that gives zero fucks; is unequivocally bold; and THE one Halloween movie that is genuinely ferocious and mean. It’s got a painful soul. I respect it more and more as time goes on. Rob’s magnum opus and my favorite in the franchise.
@@CodyLeachYT No worries, dude. It was a madhouse today. Lots of running around and waiting in scrums for The Lost Boys. Hope you got everything you wanted and had a great time. Thanks for all you do and safe travels back home
I've had the exact same argument regarding the first Alien film that you have with Terminator. Guy claimed it wasn't a slasher cause it was set in space, I am sorry but a monster/killer hunting down people one by one is most definitely a slasher😂 Great video Cody as usual ! Was definitely a welcome surprise😄
Predator is 100% a slasher. Masked killer with superhuman abilities hunting down a group of people and picking them off one by one in brutal ways. Hell, you even get a final "girl".
@@willee788 You mean humanoid?? That certainly would still apply to the Predator. Slashers are defined by specific tropes, and Predator certainly follows those tropes, I'd argue it does a better job of it than a lot of other movies that no one would argue against.
First off I love your channel. None of these bug me at all except the TCM thing & it does every time. Each family member’s personality & performance are absolutely perfect. The teens were all great too. The score. The realism. The atmosphere. The horror cultural significance. The way it looked. The bleakness. This is an absolute perfect movie in fact number one for me. Original Halloween being number two but also perfect & much more watchable. I still hold out hope the genius of this film will hit you one day.

It's only because the five after it are straight up action. I remember when The Terminator was the ONLY Terminator movie and in the 80s it definitely felt scarier and darker..
There’s Kyle’s nightmare and the scene where the Terminator is pretending to be Sarah’s mom while sitting in her house he messed up and next to her corpse. Those are straight up scenes from a horror movie! Even though T2 is where it started to go straight action movie, Sarah’s nightmare in that one fucked me up when I saw it at a young age!
I think it could be viewed that way today but it definitely doesn't resemble any slasher film from that era. Original slasher films usually took place in isolated locations, had many red herrings, and didn't really delve into sci fi themes. However, there are still some recognizable elements. People also say the same about the original Alien.
I like the original Halloween movies, but I think the Rob Zombie movies are the two best in the series, followed by the newest trilogy, and then the originals
Whie the original Friday the 13th isn't the best in the series, I still think it's really good. Camp Crystal Lake is a great setting, the music is iconic, the kills are memorable and Betsy Palmer is fantastic as Pamela Voorhees despite only appearing in the final act. And to this day, I maintain the Jason popping out of the lake at the end is the single greatest jump-scare in horror movie history.
I like Halloween III: Season of the Witch but I view the movie separately from the rest of the series. For me the top Halloween rankings are the original, Halloween IV, Halloween H20, & Halloween II.
@motorvenom7113 I didn't like any of the new trilogy. Halloween is my favorite horror franchise even though most of the movies aren't great. But H20 finished Laurie's story way better than the new ones
Halloween 1-4 are great. H20 is very flawed but a good send off for Jamie as Laurie and the true ending of the original timeline. Halloween 6 is pretty silly but can be entertaining. The rest can be erased out of existence.
My hot take has always been that Michael Myers should’ve died in Halloween 2 and the rest of the franchise should’ve gone with the anthology idea from Halloween 3.
Betsy really looked like she was trying to harm the character Alice. Like she’s angry at the girl IRL! It was the one moment I had forgotten that I really enjoyed on the rewatch. Which helped me to not dislike the movie overall but it was a close call. Good Job Betsy Palmer 👍🏾👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Yep. Friday the 13th is such an unusual franchise. The first movie honestly kinda sucks. It gets remembered as a classic because it started the franchise and it has Kevin Bacon in one of his first roles. However, there’s a reason that Sean S Cunningham really never went on to do anything else of note. He’s just not that great of a storyteller or director. Carpenter went on to make over a dozen great movies after Halloween. Wes Craven made numerous classics within the horror genre after Elm Street (and that also came out after Last House on the Left). I think Friday the 13th Part 2 is better all around, and we don’t even get the iconic Jason until Part 3. I often just skip Part 1 when I watch the movies. It would have been weird if 4 was the last one considering that we would have only had the iconic Jason for 2 movies if it was the last one. My personal favorite is Part 6. Part 2 is scarier than the original imo, and it had the best final girl
I’m one of those people that is put off by the snake scene. Not because they killed a snake, but because that snake was somebody’s pet and the handler had no idea the snake was going to be killed. That doesn’t sit right with me.
@@Xehanort10not only that but straight up deceived the owner by not telling him and letting him find out after the fact. That’s the part that leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I’m also an exotic pet keeper and sadly many people do think exotics are more “acceptable” to kill because they’re not traditional pets.
You mean the Rev-9 is just a T-X than can separate. The TX came first...lol. Also, that's not entirely true. There are some distinct differences between them.
I just wish she (and that movie overall) had been written better. I nearly ground my teeth in frustration when she got Claire Danes dead to rights by disguising herself as Danes's fiancé, only to morph back into her real form while still 100 feet away from her intended victim. It wouldn't have been that difficult to write a better version of such a scene.
@@theofficialdtb8859 Yeah, so the movie can happen. I just think there are smarter ways to go about script-writing. Still haven't seen Genisys; all I know is that so many people seem to revile it.
Cody... I've been watching you for 4 years and THIS has been one of my favourite videos of yours. Our tastes are very similar and this video confirms that as I share all your views on these 10 points, though I have a nostalgic soft spot for Friday 13th (1980) as it was the first gory horror I saw as a kid and was terrified by the score. I agree with all the other points plus you back it up convincingly with logic 👍. Great work dude.
I'll stand on that Island with you Cody that the original Terminator is a slasher. My hot takes are Terminator Salvation is the 3rd best Terminator movie, Alien 3 is just as good as Alien and Aliens, FT13th Jason Takes Manhattan is in the top 5 of the franchise.
Fantastic video, loved the insight and I pretty much agreed with everything you have said. One thing on NOES, although I agree with your comments around an unknown to take story forward, as long as the writing is good, which is the most important thing. Also a half decent director with a good vision will help. I would really like to see Kevin Bacon take over the role. I've heard rumours of this years ago which I could really see working. Whether he would take on is another matter.
My mom totally hates the first Friday film & I do think it’s pretty goofy by today’s standards. A friend of mine and I saw it by ourselves and we had so much fun ripping on it
@@berserkstroke "Times were different" is no excuse for killing a real animal for a movie. They should have just used a snake sock puppet for the scene.
I agree, Season of the Witch is a great movie and the best after the original. Calling Halloween 3 was a mistake and I have older family members that told me that they walked into the theater back in 1983 and had no idea that Michael wasn't in it. I get why people were pissed at that time, poor marketing and people don't like being fooled into a movie.
Great video Cody! I agree with some of your hot takes. I think Halloween 3 is a really good film, I also think I prefer the exorcist 3 over the original & a nightmare on elm street can survive without Robert Englund they just need a solid script like you mention. I use to dislike the original friday the 13th as a kid but as I’ve grown older I like it more and more but I couldn’t say it’s on par with the original Halloween, Elm Street or Texas Chain Saw massacre. Not even the best in its own series imo. As for Evil Dead 2 it’s a film that took me on a wild ride when I was younger. It really catapulted me into the horror genre. I adore the film and its one of my favorites of all time. I respect your stance on the film because I can totally see the blend of horror & comedy not working for people. Especially if you’re partial to the ones that lean more towards the horror side. I think another one I adore that didn’t work for you was Big Trouble In Little China. I love it for how insane it is. Which I totally understand why others wouldn’t, I love talking movies to see different perspectives.
I don't think that you even need to recast Freddy. You can create an original character set in the same universe. The lore, as wonky as it gets, definitely allows for that to be a possibility.
@@JaceDeanLove I disagree. Make a good movie supported by good marketing and people will go see it. It certainly would have a better chance of succeeding than rehashing what we've already seen, like what was already attempted. Or even worse, trying to have a 76 year old Robert Englund reprise the role.
I feel like terminator, dark fate was going for being the Logan of the terminator franchise. It’s obviously not as good as Logan, but the feeling is there.
@Cody Leach - While I respect your opinion on Dark Fate, I thoroughly disagree that it is better than Terminator 3, or Genisys's stories. Plus, I think that with them tying it to Sarah Connor after killing John wasn't a good move. Cause if like you said, Sarah trains the new leader of the resistance. What is to stop Legion from sending a terminator back and trying to kill Sarah before she can train Dani? But if Legion was to do it, they would be risking their own survival. If you kill Sarah Connor, you prevent the birth of John Connor, which wouldn't lead to the creation of Legion, it would just bring back Skynet cause they wouldn't be around to destroy it before Judgment Day.
I agree with you on your take on the original Friday the 13th. I watched it last October and found it to be really boring, and it’s carried so much by the last few minutes and performance from Betsy Palmer.
And Savini’s makeup and effects. It was absolutely game changing. When Savini was doing practical effects in late 70’s and early 80’s horror films, he was legitimately inventing things that had never been done before. I don’t think people will fully appreciate what it meant to see an axe to the face in 1980. It’s been done a million times now, but people hadn’t ever seen anything like it at the time. That’s true of the original DOTD, Maniac, Prowler, and pretty much everything Savini was doing. They weren’t all great films at all, but the impact of seeing that degree of gore back then was something we were experiencing for the first time. You can’t go back and see it through those eyes if you’re younger
This is a great video idea. People have been kinda obsessed with hot takes and unpopular opinions for a while now. And as for hot takes, imo Shaun of the Dead is the best zombie movie ever made
Shaun of the dead is definitely one of the best, who cares if it’s a comedy and not a horror it’s an awesome film. Can definitely understand that it still sounds silly to say that
Regarding The Terminator, I agree it's definitely a horror and should be classed as one, but I've always considered a SLASHER to be someone who SLASHES, ie using a blade bro. No blades, no slasher. Thems the rules
I mean other slasher icons have used guns in their later Micheal Myers stab someone with a gun in the fourth one and Ghostface literally uses a shotgun in that sixth one but those are still slashers
@malisle13descendantslover46 yeah but Michael and Ghostface primarily use knives... I might be talking complete shit here, it's just what I've personally always considered a slasher to be. I mean its in the name lol. Slash.
In conclusion, after watching the entire video, I always appreciate your views and opinions on movies. I'm a huge horror geek, and even though I disagree with some of your hot takes, I really do see where you're coming from when you explain your reasoning. Like, for instance, Evil Dead 2 is my fave, I think the balance of horror and comedy is perfect, but I also love the 2013 reboot/sequel, and Evil Dead Rise, I also love the 1st entry, and Evil Dead 3 is also near perfection. Child's Play 1 was my first horror film I watched in full on the Sci-fi Channel back in 1991, I was 7 years old, but Child's Play 2 is my fave, and CP 3 is an amazing movie, first time the FX guys used computer programming to move the chucky doll around the set. Halloween 2, you may be on an island, but I love the brutality in that movie. Anyway, sorry about the essay, lol. Love your vids, opinions, and will never stop watching your channel, so never stop, please 😂 take care buddy 💯👊 PS; Terminator 1 is definitely a slasher movie 👌
Cody the way you've always talked about TCM remake (which I agree with) is the same way I feel with The Grudge. Scariest movie theater experience I ever had as a kid and was wondering your thoughts on that movie. Huge fan and always look forward to your content man!
Something interesting that I've discovered about hot takes is that it's not always the take itself that pisses ppl off; sometimes, it just boils down to HOW you word or deliver said take. Like with your Terminator take, which I agree wholeheartedly with, I'd phrase it like "It's an action film with the skeletal structure of a slasher" (haha get it cus cyborgs lmao). However some ppl will always take things the wrong way, or only listen to ya in bad faith, regardless of how you phrase it oof Love your work, Cody!! P.S. I'll say this about the original Exorcist: to me, the film is far more terrifying on a subconscious/subliminal level that it is outwardly scary X3 (That possessed Reagan make-up tho will always haunt me cus of that damn Scary Maze game lmao) The Exorcist III definitely works a lot more for me on both levels; like you said, it does a way better job at getting under your skin, and the scares legit got me the first time I watched it 🥶 I think Exorcist 3, along with In Dreams, Dolores Claiborne, the original Cube and The Cell are great entryways into psychological horror X3
Also speaking of Edward furlong, have you seen BRAINSCAN. A guilty pleasure to 10 favorites for me. I’m not sure I heard you speak of it have you seen it?
I was pleasantly surprised with your number 2 hot take, in the fact that I agree with your assessment. Evil Dead 2 is probably my second least favorite movie in the franchise, ahead of Army of Darkness, which is my least favorite. Maybe it's just a preference thing, but I like the more serious toned movies in the franchise, that are more focused on the horror and despair aspect, instead of the comedy/slapstick, which feels completely out of place to me. Don't get me wrong, Army of Darkness is hilarious, but not Evil Dead to me. I can also empathize with people, and understand their reasonings why they enjoy Evil Dead 2. I think that from a comedy angle, ED2 has funny moments that I laugh at, but it isn't Evil Dead to me, because it was a horror comedy, and not a straight up psychological, supernatural isolation horror movie like Evil Dead 1, Evil Dead 2013, and Evil Dead Rise.
I've heard so many of your hot takes and most I do actually agree with. And even with the ones I don't agree with, I still respect your opinion because it is, after all, an OPINION! Love your content man, keep up the great work!
i understand what you're saying about fri the 13th. i was watching it with anticipation of seeing jason for the 1st time on film, and as it went on i was getting frustrated that jason hadn't popped up, and i searched for a film description, and was sorely disappointed, except the canoe on the lake scene.
It plays exactly like a slasher film. The "killer" is just using guns and its own body to murder people rather than bladed weapons and power tools. I can see the argument of it being a slasher.
Great analysis on Dark Fate….i can almost accept it. Maybe I’ll come around to it. I think I like Salvation a bit more because I’ve always wanted to see the war. The victory in the future would have been really cool to see over two or Three films. :)
Not only is Friday the 13th one of my favorite franchises, but the original film is my favorite out of all of them. It just hit me at the perfect age and was really effective for me and that final jumpscare still gets me. I get complaints that people have with it being boring and whatnot but I still think it’s great. The first 3 Friday movies will always be my top 3 favorites
Is Madame Web really any worse than Avengers 2? I don’t think it’s studio interference, I just think people are seeing behind the curtain now and realising these movies were always average and it’s time to let the past die and move onto new genres
"The Terminator (1984) is Horror/Slasher film" being a Hot Take seems a little weird to me considering that majority of the Terminator Fandom would argee with that statement.
Obviously a lot of people hate that John Connor was killed off, just to be replaced with a Mexican girl. Why? Why do that? Is it to reset the franchise and tell a fresh new story? Nope because Dark Fate is basically just the exact same movie as T2 but changing the sex of the 'hero' and changing the name of Skynet to Legion. It adds nothing new to the story. Personally I don't mind killing off John Connor or indeed Newt and Hicks dying off screen for Alien3, as long as you have a reason to do so and can add to the overall storyline and have a reason for it. Alien3 is a mess but Ripley is the main character of the franchise and it gave a decent end to her story arc (sacrificed herself). Dark Fate adds nothing so I can totally understand why people see it as disrespectful to the character of John, and an example of Hollywood's current obsession with ruining male movie legacy characters to replace them with females (Disney star wars, Indiana Jones, all recent Marvel releases etc). That side of things I am not super bothered about eitherway, but what I do really dislike about Dark Fate is it's total lack of new ideas. It literally doesn't need to exist, it does nothing story wise that wasn't already done in T2. It feels a cynical cash grab that banked on the return of Linda and Arnie to trick fans into seeing it, without actually bothering to write a movie that justifies existing. At least Salvation and Genesis tried to do something a bit different and didn't just photocopy T2.
@@rosswhite5975 It's a shame too because it is extremely well made, with some great action set pieces, and Linda does great. However, the lack of any storyline progression hampers that one quite a bit.
@@politefan8141 Yeah Linda Hamilton is the best thing about it. I saw it the day it came out, in the cinema, hadn't seen any reviews of anything and was looking forward to it. Finally a Terminator sequel with Linda and Arnold in, plus it has James Cameron listed as one of the writers and producers, surely this is gonna be what we have all been waiting for ever since T2! I left the cinema feeling very annoyed afterwards. Like Cody's Madame Web review I just felt it was not acceptable and simply not good enough. To just phone in a photocopy of T2's story after getting Linda and Arnie back one final time is frankly insulting to them and insulting to the fans. They spent nearly 200 million but couldn't come up with an original story? Ridiculous.
It was good idea to have Terminator in Mexico and make a different John Connor its just that the execution was poorly done which is why Dark Fate was hated. Im more of a Salvation fan than Daek fate
Super late to this video, but awesome vid Cody! I sense a part 2 on the horizon? Here’s some of my hot takes: - I really, really enjoyed Halloween Kills - I STILL don’t like Halloween 3 SOTW - The Child’s Play remake is my 2nd favorite in the franchise after the original -It Follows is just ok. It’s nowhere near the masterpiece everyone thinks it is. -Found footage is my favorite sub genre of horror (this isn’t so much a hot take, but I’m the only person I know that has made it their favorite). When it’s done poorly it sucks, but when it’s done well it’s TERRIFYING.
Cody just listening to you and go in depth with your evidence etc and proof to your hot takes is awesome. Bc you put thought and passion into your work. It’s really great man
Here are 4 of my more unpopular movie opinions: 1. I think Michael Bay has a lot more talent than people give him credit for Explanation: Of course he made the nonsensical Transformers sequels, but he’s done a lot of films I quite enjoy and there’s a bunch of his movies that have more to offer than just massive spectacle and jokes aiming for the lowest common denominator. 2. I kind of love Halloween III: Season of the Witch for the movie it is Explanation: It doesn’t make any sense in the Halloween franchise, but if you can remove the Halloween name from this film, I think it’s a highly enjoyable horror film from the early 80’s. 3. I’m not specifically a big fan of Middle Earth Explanation: Don’t get me wrong The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is a fantastic trilogy that I enjoy every time I rewatch them, but they’ve never been personal favorites of mine, even though I really only have very positive things to say about them 4. I love Terminator: Dark Fate and think it’s safely the best Terminator film since T2 Explanation: While I’m well aware that a lot of people hate Dark Fate with a passion, I love the way it builds out the Terminator lore, expands the character of Sarah Conner, finds a new angle to explore Arnold as The T-800, and I think it has great action. If you disagree, that’s okay! That’s the beauty of being film fans!
Ok ok fair but lotr is goated idk about Micheal Bay and um dark fate is like Disney remaking a classic because they have better effects when we all know it's for money
I actually really appreciate your hot takes. I love hearing opinions that I disagree with yet understand, or agree with but have a different philosophy.
My hot take: I don't enjoy watching ANY of the Indiana Jones movies. I didn't grow up with them and when I did sit down to watch them I was checking my watch and bored most of the time. Granted there are great moments but overall I'm not a fan. Nothing against anyone who is but they're just not for me.
Evil dead 2 is by far the best of the series, and I think 90 percent of the world agrees so yeah definitely a hot take, but I like that you actually explain your reasons why you feel that way to many people don’t.
I actually agree with most of these hot takes Cody. I personally enjoy the original Friday but I don’t fault anyone for not liking it themselves. I’ve never seen Terminator Dark Fate but I also haven’t seen any of them beyond T3. I’m kind of ok with T2 being the last canon film in my head.
I definitely would like to see you talk about movie Soundtracks in the future. I've been missing the music talk and I'm interested to see what movie scores over the years have intrigued ya (including ones for bad or not well known movies and most times I think those movies scores can be great and not talked about enough).
Cody! I love this video. A lot of great stuff you're talking about. But, in 2024, what even is a hot take? I don't think these hot takes are really that bad at all - or are really hot takes at all. I'm born in 1995, and I've found that many younger audiences enjoy anything and everything - even enjoying sequels more than originals as an example. I've found that mainly older audiences worship certain movies like The Exorcist (1973) and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) - that's cool and fine, but those movies are 50 years old. We've had so much cinema since then. Here's what I generally think about your list of hot takes (As short as can be haha). 10. The Terminator - If we look at genre film and what ingredients go into a slasher film - yes - this counts. 9. The Exorcist III - sure. 8. Friday the 13th - definitely. It's not a good movie. It's in my bottom 3. Like you said, no one really ranks this one highly in their own private lists - except for maybe older viewers and purists. 7. Halloween III - yes. Love everything you said. It's not in my Top 3, but it's great - I just enjoy some Michael sequels more. 6. A Nightmare on Elm Street - 100% agreed. Let's green light a new Freddy! 5. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - 100% this is my favourite as well. 4. Terminator: Dark Fate - ...The ending of T2 clearly stated - we can choose our own fate and the future is not set - and they stopped judgement day. In the extended cut we see Sarah and John at the park all grown up - life is good, judgement day is no more. That is a clearly defined book ending to The Terminator Saga - which is why James Cameron never came back. Every sequel after T2 is fundamentally flawed for that reason. Now, is Dark Fate the best sequel since 2? Depends who you ask. Me? It could be - but for a movie that came out in 2019, and came out after all the other missteps - Dark Fate should have been better. Linda and Arnold were awesome - so fun to see those two together again. But, here is my BIGGEST problem with Dark Fate - it rips off ideas from the other Terminator sequels (after 2) and doesn't come up with anything new on it's own. What they stole from Rise of the Machines - oh, well, actually, judgement day is indeed inevitable no matter what you do (which totally goes against the message of T2). What they stole from Salvation - There's a character that's half human and half terminator... wow! What they stole from Genisys - if it isn't Skynet taking over, it'll be something else. In this case it's Genisys. And in Dark Fate, it's Legion. Terminator: Dark Fate just ripped off ideas and didn't bring anything new to the table. Oh, and I also found the movie a little boring lol. 3. Child's Play 3 - while I don't think CP3 is a 'better' movie than the original, I love and adore the Child's Play Trilogy and pretty much dislike everything that has come after. Yes, Child's Play 2 & 3 are better 'Chucky' movies than the original - and I find myself rewatching those more than the original as well. 2. Evil Dead II - sure. 1. Halloween II - I respect the vision and original direction of the movie - all things you said - but I just straight up don't like the original direction and vision LOL. It's a pretty bleak and miserable movie. It's a hard watch - The characters are totally traumatized from H1, so they either treat each other poorly, or are emotionally unstable - it's just hard to watch mental illness and trauma at such an extreme level. There's also a dirty gross tone with some characters like the ambulance driver, and maybe also how some of the violence is depicted. The visions with Sheri Moon Zombie and the white horse are pretty bad as well. Btw, my favourite Halloween movie is Rob Zombie's Halloween 2007... awkwaaaaard. Like I said at the beginning - great video and I love everything you talked about. It's 2024 - Let's normalize liking what we like and accepting everyone's varying opinions. ... Except for your fondness for Terminator: Dark Fate and Halloween II. Screw those movies 🤣🤣🤣
- I love and adore the Child's Play Trilogy and pretty much dislike everything that has come after Holy shit, fucking finally who agrees with me on this. I have felt like I was the insane for not liking anything after the third movie.
Man the only take on here that I thought was Meh was the Rob Zombie Take and even then I still agree and see what you’re saying to an extent. I like how it also takes chances which I can always appreciate in a movie but Rob Zombies character dialogue in all his movies honestly just make the experience too unenjoyable for me personally. The hottest take I have is scream 2 is the best in the franchise! Now here me out it was the first horror movie I ever seen and also where the killer wasn’t spoiled for me. Yeah someone spoiled scream 1 for me unfortunately but I also think the killer reveals in scream 2 really work and thought the studio scene was the scariest (not best but scariest imo) in the franchise. I also think the fact that it’s still so good and made this not even a year later makes it even more incredible for me
That part in Friday the 13th with Allison's hiding from Miss Palmer in the Pantry as Jason's mom is just tearing the cabin apart looking for it was terrifying
I saw TCM (1974) the first time in a 1981 re-release (summer before 8th grade!!) and to this day it’s still my all time fave horror film. Seeing films theatrically is just SO important and affects our overall opinions. I took my son to see the 2003 remake and was genuinely surprised at how good it was. I can totally appreciate your take on it. As far as RZ’s Halloween 2? Rob was obviously watching a lot of David Lynch at the time. I wish he’d keep his ass on the stage and away from the cameras.
I applauded the balls it took to kill John Connor in T:DF. It really played into the "The future is not set. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves" message.
I knew your number 1 hot take would be exactly what I was expecting. XD As much as I utterly despise Rob Zombie's Halloween II, I still respect your opinion because of the calm, non-fanboyish way that you present it, Cody. So, still give you props.
I’ve always loved child’s play 3 over the original too it was one of the first child’s play movies that I’ve seen. It still has the best damaged look of chucky with his 2 face look and his death in the movie is the best in the franchise.
A few of those I disagree with bigtime, but hey, we all have our own preferences. The beauty is that all of these movies are here for us to enjoy, whichever ones we like the most or least. I like hearing your perspective even when I don't agree. It reminds me to always try and have a fresh perspective.
Child's Play 3 is raw. Putting live rounds into those guns is crazy
Call me weird but Shelton's death always made me burst out laughing, not even because he was an antagonist but because it's so random and the face he makes when he gets shot
“I thought Good Guys only said three sentences.”
“I’m new and improved.”
I always though that is so stupid. There is no way that any army school would not teach to look what kind of ammunition you have in your gun. That's basically one of the most taught gun safety tip. You would see immediately that the guns have live ammo.
@@jukka-pekkatuominen4540what’s army school
@@YupDock Whatever they had in Child's Play 3. There are nothing like that where I live, but looked a lot like army for children.
3:11 #10: The Terminator is a Slasher

18:12 #6: Freddy Krueger can survive without Robert Englund
24:10 #5: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 remake is the best of the franchise

Nahhh no way man . Child’s play 1 1988 is the best.
I don't understand people who say the 2003 TCM Is a bad Reboot..It's perfect!
Eh perfect is a bit of a stretch. It looks like a late 90s industrial video and its more based on the reputation of the original film rather than the actual film. The Zeitgeist chainsaw massacre is a more apt title.
@@joeabernathy5402This perfectly sums it up
It's an edgelords wet dream
It’s the best horror remake of all time. It’s better than the original 🤷🏻♂️
It's a texas chainsaw movie where the main girl looks right out of the oos singing a song about alabama. And that's just the beginning of the issues it has.
Halloween 3 has one of the most memorable kills. The kids head melting into poisonous snakes and insects, mwah
Just check out the Wikipedia page for T1; the mods literally have rule against labeling T1 as a horror/slasher film.
Neckbeard behavior lol
Reminds me of Alien. Alot of people thinks it's scifi movie. Sure buts a slasher in space
Exorcist 3 has the best jumpscare of all time, that puts it ahead of the original for me too lol
I still to this day don’t understand Joe it was marketed as a kids/family movie 😂
I saw it in the theater, my cousin was crying, kids were getting taken out of the theater, I’ve heard of kids throwing up during it.
I mean dead meat covered it
Started it with my young kid the other day and realized that it was scary as fuck. Had to stop the movie when the T-Rex appears because he was shitting his pants 😅
It was marketed as a kids movie to sell toys.
Everyone forgets Spielberg started off as a horror filmmaker, and I feel like he’s always found ways to keep the horror in his films
I’m with you on that, I’ve always considered it a horror. The book definitely is.
The mockumentary opening from tcm remake is awesome. I would've loved that included with the original.
The TCM 2003 remake was beautifully disturbing
It’s good, nowhere near the best & neither is Kane Hodder, he’s an good yet overrated Jason
Not sure its a hot take honestly, lots of people recognize its not a really good movie, but its still a ton of fun watching Jason fight Carrie. Thats the way I feel about it personnaly.
I very much enjoy the new blood as well and that house explosion at the end is just so epic.
VI has always been my favorite and people argue with that take
Discovered your channel with your Chris Stuckman video and decided to give you a chance with this video... After agreeing with some of your takes (including the Dark Fate one), I'm subscribing.
Welcome to the madness!
Your take on The Terminator is spot on.
Even Ryan Hollinger did a vid a few years back talking about how it’s a slasher. I don’t really consider it horror, but I can see the points for why some have classified it as such
I agree with his take on T1 but not really dark fate. like I get it, and he makes some good arguments but I just simply don't enjoy the movie.
I'm with you on that@@ChronicBreakdown
I don't agree on Dark Fate being the Best T2 Sequel. I think Salvation and 3 are better
No it’s not lol. If that’s the case then Harry Potter is a crime series 🤣
The only reasons I would watch Friday the 13th is for Betsy palmer's performance and Tom savini’s makeup effects.
That show was so damn good, criminally slept on.
Is that a hot take? I think most people would put the show above any of the sequels in this franchise after T2.
Well in my circle I have found that most people dont remember it or even know it existed.@@Mickey-1994
@@armsofserpent I can understand people that missed the show and never watched it but I don't think anyone can seriously say the sequels after T2 had better writing. The show is far superior even on a TV budget.
The Sarah Connor Chronicles is so criminally underrated.
Chucky and Tyler getting caught playing hide the soul is the absolute funniest moment in any horror movie.
Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 is like Madame Web for horror fans
I think this take is what the younger people would call "Based"
It's worse
Rob’s magnum opus and my favorite in the franchise.
lol Sorry we didn’t meet man. I was running around that place all day trying to catch autographs and photo ops.
Guy claimed it wasn't a slasher cause it was set in space, I am sorry but a monster/killer hunting down people one by one is most definitely a slasher😂
Great video Cody as usual ! Was definitely a welcome surprise😄
Predator is in that category also.
@@Lakeshow82 totally agree man! Ive yet to understand the people who think films can only be one genre😅
Predator is 100% a slasher. Masked killer with superhuman abilities hunting down a group of people and picking them off one by one in brutal ways. Hell, you even get a final "girl".
personaly i think it should be human shape to be slasher
if its a monster i would call it a monster movie and not slasher
Cody, I'm through some rough personal stuff...these videos mean a lot to me man on bringing my mood up...Keep up the great work !!
Same here man keep your head up and keep pushing through!

He defends Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 three times?
I've always thought of the first Terminator as a straight up horror movie and would imagine that most people disagree. Thanks for recognizing that!
It's only because the five after it are straight up action. I remember when The Terminator was the ONLY Terminator movie and in the 80s it definitely felt scarier and darker..
I was seven when Terminator came out and it definitely was a horror movie to me. It was pretty damn scary if you grew up in the 80's
An hour of hot takes. THIS is gonna be juicy
Great vid Cody! One of My hot takes is that I actually enjoy the Breakfast scene from Rob Zombie’s Halloween and the character of Ronnie as a whole…
I like the original Halloween movies, but I think the Rob Zombie movies are the two best in the series, followed by the newest trilogy, and then the originals
@@R8RSnCeltics completely agree
They don't make comedy like that scene anymore 😂
@@R8RSnCelticsthat is a hellfire take
Yep!!!!
Imho, I believe only Willem Dafoe can TRULY do the role of Freddy Krueger justice. I believe he'd do it too if the script were good enough.
I'm with you on the Friday the 13th! Not a huge fan of the entire franchise tbh
I thought part 2 was a better version of the first movie.
Those are the only Halloween movies that matter imo. The rest are all best forgotten
h20 and resurrection have a new place in my heart after seeing the dreadful halloween ends
Halloween 78, Halloween 4, H20, Rob Zombie's Halloween (I know it's deeply flawed), and H2018
My hot take has always been that Michael Myers should’ve died in Halloween 2 and the rest of the franchise should’ve gone with the anthology idea from Halloween 3.
10:17 Betsy Palmer as Mrs Voorhees and Tom Savini's effects work on the kills are the only good things about it.
@@skyofthelivingdead They definitely shouldn't have killed a real snake for a film.
My hottest movie take ... I freaking love Alien 3. It's beginning and all :)
I love alien 3, I think its a great movie
Bad cgi and all its a great addition to the series
Unirocnocally I love it as well. It's dark and brutal af. Ppl just hate it because of the survivors of Aliens deahs
If it’s wasn’t for bad CGI this movie could be released today
Scifi action buddy not horror
I love Alien 3 too 😊
The TX from Terminator 3 is just the REV-9 that can't separate. A highly underrated Terminator and I wish they'd bring it back
You mean the Rev-9 is just a T-X than can separate.
@@SlasherIncorporated either way lol I still prefer the TX over the REV-9, I really didn't care for Dark Fate at all
@@colinbaldwin313 so the movie could happen lol I was 6 when T3 came out so I have nostalgia for it, it's not the best but it's better than Genisys
Imma like this comment just for the bravery of this comment
Fantastic video, loved the insight and I pretty much agreed with everything you have said. One thing on NOES, although I agree with your comments around an unknown to take story forward, as long as the writing is good, which is the most important thing. Also a half decent director with a good vision will help. I would really like to see Kevin Bacon take over the role. I've heard rumours of this years ago which I could really see working. Whether he would take on is another matter.
I agree with the orginal Friday the 13th I can't get passed they killed someone's pet snake as someone who owns snakes that's a HARRRRD pass for me
My mom totally hates the first Friday film & I do think it’s pretty goofy by today’s standards. A friend of mine and I saw it by ourselves and we had so much fun ripping on it
It was a different time. Get over it. You realize how many are killed by farmers everyday so you can eat.

@@berserkstroke no I don't think I will as a snake owner myself it's cruel and evil so how dare you
@@berserkstroke "Times were different" is no excuse for killing a real animal for a movie.
I agree with Bryan, Sean and CP on RZH2. Their explanation on the debrief from 2022 puts it perfectly
Here’s mine Tom holland is the reason Chucky was successful 😤
That’s legit. He and Brad Dourif both
Great video Cody!
Them dragging Arnold out saying “what the **** did I do wrong” when you hit #4 had me cracking up.😂 😂😂
I'm all on board for recasting Freddy. So much potential for more stories to be told
I don't think that you even need to recast Freddy. You can create an original character set in the same universe. The lore, as wonky as it gets, definitely allows for that to be a possibility.
@@mikeszulc9490that wouldn't put butts in seats
@@JaceDeanLove I disagree. Make a good movie supported by good marketing and people will go see it. It certainly would have a better chance of succeeding than rehashing what we've already seen, like what was already attempted. Or even worse, trying to have a 76 year old Robert Englund reprise the role.
I feel like terminator, dark fate was going for being the Logan of the terminator franchise. It’s obviously not as good as Logan, but the feeling is there.
I dig that thumbnail. Excited for the video, Cody! Appreciate that you’re an honest source of movie discourse 💪
Love how you back up your opinions professionally! Well spoken 👏🏼👏🏼
I agree with you on your take on the original Friday the 13th. I watched it last October and found it to be really boring, and it’s carried so much by the last few minutes and performance from Betsy Palmer.
Same
And Savini’s makeup and effects.
And as for hot takes, imo Shaun of the Dead is the best zombie movie ever made
I don't know if that is a very unacceptable opinion. People really like that movie.
Shaun of the dead is definitely one of the best, who cares if it’s a comedy and not a horror it’s an awesome film. Can definitely understand that it still sounds silly to say that
I'm not sure that that's really much of a hot take. People love that movie. Me being one of them. Cody doesn't love it, and that's more of a hot take.
Sarah already became a terminator in T2 when she tried to terminate Dyson. It's a copy paste character arc. Aka a regression.
Slash.
@@p__k totally agree
Terminator is definitely horror sci-fi. It’s a terrifying film!
Cody the way you've always talked about TCM remake (which I agree with) is the same way I feel with The Grudge. Scariest movie theater experience I ever had as a kid and was wondering your thoughts on that movie. Huge fan and always look forward to your content man!
I agree with you on pretty much everything, but that H2 take is just wild.
However some ppl will always take things the wrong way, or only listen to ya in bad faith, regardless of how you phrase it oof
Love your work, Cody!!
P.S. I'll say this about the original Exorcist: to me, the film is far more terrifying on a subconscious/subliminal level that it is outwardly scary X3
(That possessed Reagan make-up tho will always haunt me cus of that damn Scary Maze game lmao)
The Exorcist III definitely works a lot more for me on both levels; like you said, it does a way better job at getting under your skin, and the scares legit got me the first time I watched it 🥶
I think Exorcist 3, along with In Dreams, Dolores Claiborne, the original Cube and The Cell are great entryways into psychological horror X3

I for one completely agree on the terminator
Agree Cody always has the best hot takes
i understand what you're saying about fri the 13th. i was watching it with anticipation of seeing jason for the 1st time on film, and as it went on i was getting frustrated that jason hadn't popped up, and i searched for a film description, and was sorely disappointed, except the canoe on the lake scene.
I wouldn’t call terminator a slasher film but it’s most certainly a horror film to me than a sci-fi/action movie.
It plays exactly like a slasher film. The "killer" is just using guns and its own body to murder people rather than bladed weapons and power tools. I can see the argument of it being a slasher.

Nothing is canon after T2.
You don’t put 4 up there with first three?
@@psyborgsyntax4440 yeah part 4 is the next best but the first three are better imo
Is Madame Web really any worse than Avengers 2? I don’t think it’s studio interference, I just think people are seeing behind the curtain now and realising these movies were always average and it’s time to let the past die and move onto new genres
Agree with all of these for the most part, especially the robert englund take
"The Terminator (1984) is Horror/Slasher film" being a Hot Take seems a little weird to me considering that majority of the Terminator Fandom would argee with that statement.
Yes! I've always thought Dark Fate was the best sequal after Termantor & T2. I've never understood the hate.
Same and the people that hate this movie because they kill off Jon Conner are a bunch of cry babies.
Here’s some of my hot takes:
- I really, really enjoyed Halloween Kills
- I STILL don’t like Halloween 3 SOTW
- The Child’s Play remake is my 2nd favorite in the franchise after the original
-It Follows is just ok.
It’s really great man
Which version of Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 is better - the Theatrical cut, or the Directors cut?
Here are 4 of my more unpopular movie opinions:
1. I think Michael Bay has a lot more talent than people give him credit for
Explanation: Of course he made the nonsensical Transformers sequels, but he’s done a lot of films I quite enjoy and there’s a bunch of his movies that have more to offer than just massive spectacle and jokes aiming for the lowest common denominator.
2. I kind of love Halloween III: Season of the Witch for the movie it is
Explanation: It doesn’t make any sense in the Halloween franchise, but if you can remove the Halloween name from this film, I think it’s a highly enjoyable horror film from the early 80’s.
3. I’m not specifically a big fan of Middle Earth
Explanation: Don’t get me wrong The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is a fantastic trilogy that I enjoy every time I rewatch them, but they’ve never been personal favorites of mine, even though I really only have very positive things to say about them
4. I love Terminator: Dark Fate and think it’s safely the best Terminator film since T2
Explanation: While I’m well aware that a lot of people hate Dark Fate with a passion, I love the way it builds out the Terminator lore, expands the character of Sarah Conner, finds a new angle to explore Arnold as The T-800, and I think it has great action.
If you disagree, that’s okay! That’s the beauty of being film fans!

Upgrade 2018 is the modern terminator we deserve. That movie is so underrated and the gore feels like a terminator movie
- I love and adore the Child's Play Trilogy and pretty much dislike everything that has come after
Holy shit, fucking finally who agrees with me on this.
I also think the fact that it’s still so good and made this not even a year later makes it even more incredible for me
That part in Friday the 13th with Allison's hiding from Miss Palmer in the

If not Jackie for Freddy, they need to get David Howard Thornton!
Why? He's fantastic as Art, but I don't see how that would make him a fit for Freddy Kruger. That's like saying Bill Skarsgard should do it.
XD
As much as I utterly despise Rob Zombie's Halloween II, I still respect your opinion because of the calm, non-fanboyish way that you present it, Cody. So, still give you props.
Well now I want to rewatch Dark Fate
TCM 2003 is the only one I rewatch. Loved all the characters. Earmies Sheriff Hoyt was absolutely terrifying!!
I agree that Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 is one of the best in the franchise !
Its the only myers sequel that does something besides psycho stalks, psycho kills template
I still have mixed feelings about RZ H2. It's definitely not the worst.
