The cat didnt make a single cat noise. I was in disbelief the entire time waiting for it to make some sort of feline sound. Impossible!

The cat was a therapy cat or service cat which is why it almost never made sound. I thought it was stupid too until I later learned that the cat is a therapy cat or whatever its called.

@@daxmchaffey2540 That part bothered me so much that I actually researched service cats to see if perhaps they are trained not to meow. The first video I watched of a person with a service cat had meowing in the first three minutes of viewing. I couldn’t suspend my disbelief after seeing that. Lol

Regarding the first film: The daughter feels guilty about giving the rocket to her brother. She thinks his death is her fault and therefore she's unlovable. Add to this, she's got a disability (which she likely sees as a "problem") and she's a child! Her concern that she's afraid her father doesn't love her would be a common for any child given these aspects.
Then, her father chooses her younger brother to take to the river, not her. All of those subtle points show the viewer there are reasons for her feelings to be valid. Remember, this film depicts many things but loss and grief are main elements.

I disagree about people not caring about a quiet place in 10-15 years.
I agree that the films are not revolutionary, but i think because we are kind of living in a golden age of horror. The quiet place franchise will always be celebrated because of its proxy to other amazing horrors.
The films aren't groundbreaking enough to be remembered on their lonesome, but they will always be mentioned along with films, such as get out and x

    •  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Maybe...but are you saying that it influenced other, better films from the same era or is just a poor man's version of them? I have to say that, while I spoke highly of the first film when it came out, I've never been tempted to revisit it except maybe to watch the opening scene. Perhaps that's enough to make canon, though?

I feel like a big part of what elevates A Quiet Place is watching it in theaters and experiencing the silence with the audience. I'm curious if it has the same effect when watching at home. If not, then I can see people not caring about it as much because part of the experience is gone.

I think they’re pretty good big Hollywood movies, I just found that when it was compared to Oscar nominated, indie horror, it felt a bit strange and off, and I don’t know if it has a similar legacy? What do you think?

I know you think characters from the first movie are annoying, but that is what I liked about them. Look no matter what kind of situation we are in, we are firstly human. And humans are driven by emotions. People cannot be logical all the time. Lee is a father who loves his daughter but never tells her that. His son is a scaredy cat just like me. His daughter is a hormonal teenager with survivors guilt who didn't talk to anyone about her sadness. Almost every teenager thinks everything is their fault and the world is against them. And no one had a conversation with her about it either. Because they were all busy surviving. And come on we all know condoms are not completely effective. Five year olds are dumb and his death was not his fault, he is just a little kid. I know this sounds like I'm trying to justify their choices but we all are stupid and careless all the time. Because they don't have the luxury of being stupid, doesn't mean they have to be smart all the time. They are just a normal family, like mine and that's probably why I love these movies so much.
I know for sure that my family wouldn't survive a month in the apocalypse. I would definitely go to the theatre for another watch.

I feel like we got the spinoff of Day 1 instead of the actual Day 1. I was looking forward to finding out who the monsters were and where they came from. Also, all of the news articles that were being studied in the first movie--who had time to publish those? Who was able to make publishing noises for printing news papers? Somehow, I feel we still missed Day 1, like you said. This felt more to me like an independent movie of a hospice patient who happened to live through an apocalyptic event and end life on her own terms, rather than an apocalyptic franchise prequel. That's fine for what it is. The character development was good, apart from her thinking she would arrive at Patsy's with employees in the restaurant cooking pizzas. But, I just wasn't expecting the movie we received nor would I have paid for it in theaters if I had known in advance. It would have been a nice streamer.

I feel like it left out entirely , what DAY 1 was. Honestly my favorite scenes were the helicopters preaching the evacuation orders, and that one national guard who got swooped up. I wish we saw more of the military fighting these aliens and more of the right there and then stuff. I feel like it was missing some side pieces of what would really happen in NY. Would have loved a short shootout atleast , some more gun fire in the ambience throughout the movie , and maybe a scene of the ground forces fighting the death angels like come on man. I loved this film though

It wasn't the kid who was stupid. He was a kid. It was his father who was stupid for removing the batteries from the rocket and then leaving them where the kids could get them. If nothing else i would think he'd consider those batteries a resource that he could use for something else. They should have gone directly into his pocket.
And that stupid nail. It made absolutely no sense for that nail to be where it was the way it was. Ever. It was inexplicably put there before the creatures arrived and so it logically should have been removed before they ever arrived. There shouldn't have been a nail in this movie.
It's an entertaining movie but it takes the horror trope of characters doing stupid things and turns it up to eleven.

Funny that you say that you find day one the least frustrating. Because I personally was feeling frustrated throughout almost all of the movie because of the dumb decisions that were being made. They figure out that the creatures have super sensitive hearing. Then why do they think it's a good idea to walk the streets with thousands at a time to get to the boats. I get that new York has lots of people (but not enough are shown in this movie imo), but going about it that way is simply a death sentence. I no way shape or form could that have succeeded. There are better ways that could of been handled
Even the creatures made weird decisions. Why would a creature that very heavily relies on sound and can not swim decide to take a nap in a flooded subway with gushing water.
And then the ending, yes it was cool and all, but to get there it disregarded the rules the first movies established. Make noise = almost instant death. When she was trying to sacrifice herself she makes a shit ton of sound, it takes ages for the Death Angels to get there and then they hear a tiny sound in the distance and they all leave. It goes against every thing we know of this world. Yes the ending was cool, but it was not deserved. My least favorite movie of the franchise

A Quiet Place has genuinely just been such a strange journey. The premise had me, and every single new installment loses me entirely more. I'm so glad to see someone actually saying something about this because EVERYONE seems to jump on it being the most incredible thing that's come out and I just. Cannot stand the execution. There's so many good concepts and each film has been a low 4/10 for me personally. There's so many GOOD scenes but it doesn't make a good movie, story, and especially franchise.

  • @bigjay4862

Very valid points made here! However, I do not agree with the overall critique of these movies! For one, if all characters in horror movies had common sense and made smart moves it would be pretty boring and the movie would be over in 2 seconds!😂.... I also had no problems with the shhh-Parts!🤫 It's a natural instinct for people to do in a compromising Life or Death situation!
I think all the movies, quiet place 1, 2 and Day One were well made! But I do agree with your feelings on the weird relationship between John gruginski's character and his daughter's weird relationship in the first film!
Finally, in Qp-day one I feel like the CGI background sets were fine! Manhattan looks like any other city with the exception of the iconic Empire State building and world trade center tower! I totally bought that they were in New York city! Besides, if Superman and Batman can do it then any other movie can!
Overall, my favorite movies in order were A Quiet place 2!, QP-Day One! And then the 1st A Quiet place! ALL REFRESHING MOVIES OUTSIDE OF THE TYPICAL PSYCHO KILLER, PARANORMAL, INBREED FAMILY CHASING YOU THROUGH THE WOODS MOVIE TROPES!

Like, okay, yes the characters do make poor decisions a lot of the time. However I think that it’s important to remember that the first film takes place about 14 months or so after the alien invasion. Making noise - crying, yelling, screaming, running - are all essentially ingrained within us as instincts, and generally with instincts you don’t have time to let logic take over. I agree that it can make the film frustrating at times coming at it from an objective point of view, but the decisions they make and constantly reminding each other and themselves to be quiet is what makes this film human.

Day one is a great movie because it’s not the big action sequence for an hour and a half. It’s reserved in its use of the monsters and it decides to tell a compelling story with the monsters as a backdrop. I don’t think people would have enjoyed a huge battle for the whole movie. Crazy thought but they could have stuff like the government’s response be in a TV show on streaming. Anyways I like this franchise and think the movies are great. Also these movies could be so much worse so easily.

  • @taawesome2949

For me, I think it has a cool concept of "Loud and you're dead" with good drama coming from someone who doesn't really watch drama movies. But the horror aspect is entirely disappointing (at least for my taste) because I'm the type that enjoys good jump scares.
So my experience with this franchise is: The moments leading up to when a monster might sense our cast are thrilling; they fill me with anxiety and tension.
But the payoff in terms of jump scares? Horrible. Just a 5-minute chase scene. Which escalates because for me, the monster design itself isn't really that scary. A truly spooky monster should make you want to look away from how unsettling it is, you know? This one doesn’t make me feel that way. And they all look the same (when the writer could have easily given them different designs. Think about us. We are all human but each of us looks a little different, right? They could just say one of them got wounded, infected, or has extra teeth-I don't know).
Don’t get me wrong, of course, if this angel of death thing existed in real life, I be terrified. But this thing doesn’t exist in real life. It exists on the screen, and I genuinely believe that the director has failed to make me scared when the monsters start chasing.
(Wish they give us more POV shot)

They are aware it diffuses thier sounds even scream during the thunder but wait it out while ill be running through the rain to get to what ever point i needed to. Second the cat finds her after the crazy panic seen, yeah no. These monsters hit a wide area yet manhattan was closed off I am legend style. The generator sense was smart but he shut it off, im sure there was other generators powering up that weren’t shut off but i get it for pushing the story. The creatures makes tons of noise but they zero in only when a human makes a slight bump lmao. I really like the idea of a quiet place but my level of suspended belief is getting shorter and shorter with these movies. And like what’s the point of these creatures?
