My uncle bought a 268 brand new in 96, had it modified up. He used it for a couple years cutting minimal wood then chucked it in his shed cause it was to heavy for him. We got talking last year and he said he had a saw which I could have. When I got it and pulled the cover's off and it looks literally brand new under all the cover's. Chucked some fresh fuel in it and a couple pulls and it fired up after 13 years of sitting in the shed. It is an amazing old chain saw.

Fellled trees for about 30 years. The most powerful saw I ever had was the 268xp, but you had to make sure you had a spare clutch every 6 months. The most reliable saw I ever had was the 266xp, and before that was the 162. All brilliant saws.

I just built a 268. I had a minor air leak. It was coming from the oil pump side seal. I didnt know that the oil pump side seal needed to hang a bit out of the oil pump towards the crankshaft bearing . It did not seat deep enough on the crankshaft

A good find, would be madness to use it for parts I think. Hopefully another parts saw turns up.
