I have the same saw. I put a hyway 52mm top end, and pop-up piston in it, no base gasket running .023" squish and added the 272 HD air filter which fits perfectly under the hood, even with the plastic breather. Runs phenomenally. Gave the piston and cylinder a tickle aswell. Pulls a 28" full house no problem.
I had one of these, it is essentially a second gen model 66. Open port, 272 carb, intake, filter setup. They ain't bad saws! If you want to squeeze more power out of it, yes a 272 with closed ports will make more power, but these run pretty good as is from the one I had.
!!!!!! More exclamation points for ya Boedy! Nice saw too! 268 is open port and 268xp is closed port. They should both have a tillotson hs260a carburetor. From what I recall. I hope I am not spreading misinformation. My memory is not always the best.
The 268 open ports came out later after the 268xp , when the 272xp replaced the 268xp as the top 70cc class saw husky put the open port Gillordoni cylinder on the 268 and dropped rhe XP designation, other than that its the same as the XP. The open port 268’s run really well and hold there own against the 268-272xps.
Found this quote from someone who owns both - "I have 1 of each and the 268xp outcuts the 268 pretty easily. Not by a huge margin , but it is noticable. The closed port 268xp has about a half hp more than the open port 268. Both of mine have tillotson hs260a carbs. Either will cut firewood and get work done, but the 268xp is a better saw."
For $125, a good muffler mod and a sharp chain and somebody would have an awesome firewood saw. That's just as much fun as seeing your first pair of hooters when you get a good deal on a saw and she fires right up!
Over weekend picked up a 2014 550xp while working at a household haz day. People dropped of “old saw”. Thing fired right up and had a sharp chain. Added to my collection
Nice find man i think i would wd40 that bolt that would not come out of the muffler before I would spend $ on more than a carb kit . Get the bugs out of the muffler and you got an all day everyday runner. Cheers man . Cheers.
I know when the 268 first came out it was to replace the 266 it wasn't an xp. There was a problem with it according to my dealer at the time . When they came back out they were xps.
When you go and get really hot, then IMMEDIATELY AFTER SHUTTING IT DOWN spray the bolt with penetrating oil. That thermal shock MIGHT cause it to break free.
The absolute best penetrating oil known to man is a 50/50 mix of acetone and regular automatic transmission fluid. Mix ya up a small container to keep around (one that acetone will not dissolve) and get a squirt down that exhaust bolt hole. 99% chance it'll pop right out if you let it sit half an hour or so especially if the head+bolt is kinda warm when you apply it. Shjts pure magic.
The 268 is a open port. The XP version was a closed port might of had a different carb also. There's a half a horse difference between the two. XP having the half horse more. 268xp was made from 1987-1997.
its freaking hilarious when u do the timelaps to watch all the stink bugs dance around. and when u got it crunk those guys came to party. what a great score u got there
I just picked up that same saw the other day, 268 not xp. It has an open port cylinder, mine was a bit wore but still ran, i decided to put a 272 top end on it, haven't even broke it in yet but so far i like the saw, if you need an OEM cylinder and piston that can be cleaned up let me know
Lol sorry for the end comment. The clutch us the later style clutch which tells me it's a later model saw. The early style clutch had a single spring instead of the 3 spring design that yours has.
Nice find.. that xp is possibly just marketing and that saw may have missed out as an earlier model, definitely not 82 .check the plastic always has stamp month and year in the center of plastic, top cover for e.g. use aerosol primer on the bar after its dressed works for me..
Good Looking saw, I’ve really been digging your Channel always something different about Chainsaws, since I retired 2 yrs ago I’ve had to find things to do,so I’ve gotten into chainsaws , I was a Deisel Mechanic for over 30 years , and I find that Chainsaws is such a satisfying hobby , keep the great videos coming.
I think the 268 is open port and 268xp is closed port I have the jred 670 Champ which is basically a 268xp and it runs amazing it runs close to my 372xp but doesnt have the good anti-vib so it gets a little rough to use after about an hour of use
Smashed the fu*k out of my barr today. Buddy wants to buy $1000 bucks worth of Cherry burls tomorrow. Ain't life great Exclamation point then a period.
You gotta smash them stink bugs to get their full flavor man!!!! LMFFAO!!! They kinda smell like the old morning safety meetings on a couple of tree crew’s that I worked with in my youth!!! 😂😂🥸💪. All those tree climbing fellas liked their waking and baking !!! 😂😂👍

They was a 268. 268W west coast an a 268 XP special which is closed port ! Really Good saws !!!
Come on everyone. Let's give him thumbs up. He's trying really hard to keep us intertained
I believe the 268 is an open port cylinder and the 268xp is a closed port cylinder...I think
I think you’re correct der bobbalou
Correcta mundo!
I bet that open port saw will have a nice broad power band. I've enjoyed the open port huskies from that area. Pull like a tractor.
@@mattfleming86 they do seem to run great 👍🏽
@@mattfleming86 but a closed port would pull even more ;)

Certainly sounds like a happy saw!

That was hilarious... I saw one go flying past the camera!

Hay there Tim, I could not have said it better !! Cheers man .
Over weekend picked up a 2014 550xp while working at a household haz day. People dropped of “old saw”. Thing fired right up and had a sharp chain. Added to my collection
That saw looks like it's in great shape. Good job dude!
Nice find man i think i would wd40 that bolt that would not come out of the muffler before I would spend $ on more than a carb kit . Get the bugs out of the muffler and you got an all day everyday runner. Cheers man . Cheers.
That's a painfully good deal, nice score.
Saweet!! Can't beat that deal with a stick👍🏻
Great deal man. That muffler might be clogged up with stink bugs or maybe a mud dauber nest
I have run a lot of different saws, the 272 is still my favorite.
My 268xp is an 87 and it is a closed port. It has a 50 mm piston. Its my favorite saw in y lineup. Good score
A few log cuts took them out. Said it made it easier to tighten the chain. But not for me.
Nice saw! Even better price!
I love your jabber...don't think you know how much info your passing on....and you don't rush things so get info first time.......stay as you are.....
Lucky find. Really nice saw

Keep the great videos coming!!!!!
Man I been lookin for a chassis like that for a certain 48mm build

Lol! I almost cried first compresson pull lol. Halarious!!
Little scrub on the chain and that’s a damn good saw!!!! Awesome deal buddy!!!
I watched in slow motion, and I say OMG at all the stink bugs in the muffler when you started it!
its freaking hilarious when u do the timelaps to watch all the stink bugs dance around. and when u got it crunk those guys came to party. what a great score u got there
I have a 268 same as that saw, I don’t mind using it, great video Boedy!
Yes the top hole in the cover is for a fresh air charge. The 268 and 272 have the same cover.
Love my Yugoslavian 66, compact and torqey
Hey JH, How did you come across a 66, are they rare, are you the original owner? Would like 2 hear some info on a 66.👍🆙JH
Got it at auction a few years ago. It was filthy, but cleaned up nicely. Open port cylinder, shiney metal brake flag. Late 80's saw.
@@jimholz1102 Thanks 4 the info! What year in the 80s do you think they were made? Do you happen 2 know what # carburetor they used on the 66?
I just picked up that same saw the other day, 268 not xp. It has an open port cylinder, mine was a bit wore but still ran, i decided to put a 272 top end on it, haven't even broke it in yet but so far i like the saw, if you need an OEM cylinder and piston that can be cleaned up let me know

That’s a clean Saw 👍. Good ole stink bugs. Nothing like roasting them and smelling that😂
👍🆙D
Nice find.. that xp is possibly just marketing and that saw may have missed out as an earlier model, definitely not 82 .check the plastic always has stamp month and year in the center of plastic, top cover for e.g. use aerosol primer on the bar after its dressed works for me..
Nice clean unit Mister ❤
Also if it's a 2 piece ignition it's an older saw. If it's a single coil it's a later saw.
Good info
Air intake on all 268 272 saws

We’d call that the tweeker special around here…
Nice looking saw
dont usually comment butfor the algoritum, heres your dinner.
That's clean can you put a big bore 76cc on that 🤔
Very cool!
Nice score for all that stuff🤙🏻😎
It looks like those were produced between 1989-2002.
Yatzee!!
Damn stink bugs will hitch a ride on anything.
Good video enjoy them
1987 to 1997 was the production run for the 268
I think the 268 is open port and 268xp is closed port I have the jred 670 Champ which is basically a 268xp and it runs amazing it runs close to my 372xp but doesnt have the good anti-vib so it gets a little rough to use after about an hour of use
missing the wear plate inner dogs and chain catcher
Some of those rope pulleys are different even from the factory. IronHorse did a video about it.
Good to know Todd , I will have to look into that video. That IRONHORSE quite a valt of knowledge. Cheers man.
Good to know Todd. I will have to look for that video, lronhore is a valt of information. Cheers man, keep on keeping on.
when they came out with the 272xp the 268 became just a 268
With the quickness .’n🧬⚡️
You know you’re saw’s brother, l hope all Chainsaw lovers on the planet get to know you !!!❤
You should keep that saw and call it stinky
So you have the rare “stink bug clutch assembly “ what is next cotton mouth bar and chain?
like my non xp 254 it doesnt have air injection from flywheel.
The hole in the top cover is the air intake
Nice
It is a 1992 model , great saw
Call the saw back in black
But that's a very clean saw
I started my saw and it was full of stinkbugs. They got into the flywheel and got chopped up now my whole garage smells like em.
125 dollars is a good price any day for just the saw
Maybe a 268 non xp is not the x-torq?
Nice score
Hell yeah!
Yep this is the one I saw today.
👍👍👍
Apakah sama piston 268 sama 272 atau 61. Bos ?
Bet stink bugs have never smelled so good😂
Definitely should mod the muffler or put a pipe on it.
Bagus 👍👍
Hooskavarna
👍🆙BigGuy
He'll yea stink bugs came with a free saw
The beetle juice saw
Is that a trick or a treat🎃🎃🎃 Sorry that was stupid and all I had to help you out.
Smashed the fu*k out of my barr
today.
Buddy wants to buy $1000 bucks worth of Cherry burls tomorrow.
Ain't life great
Exclamation point then a period.
That's why you gotta have a backup saw for your backup saw!
You deleted my post about where to check all your old saw specifications. All I put there was two words "acres Internet".
It only shows 268xp
They were built 1987-97.
I didn't delete your post. Must not have posted.
Go Boedy.
268
$125 is awesome!!!! You gotta practice climbing!!!
You should name it stinkbug
... stink bugs. Lol.
Dang that saw really stinks.lol
👍

❤
The stinky Husqvarna 🤣
268 xp closed port 268 open port
