Welcome to the 371xp family tinman! 😁🤙🏼 You’ll love that saw. I sure love running mine. Its a ripper 💪🏼 little side note, my ‘98 371xp has a 2 ring piston. Must’ve changed it over a few years

Donnie Walker said they were designed for up to 24 inch bar. As you said, they beefed them up for a long bar, so were heavier. The early ones had an HD6 carb. No limiters. I put single ring Meteor pistons in even the new saws with no problems.

Wow! Thank you so much Daniel for sending Tinman the awesome saw and legendary care package!
Opti-2 is good stuff, never let me down. Tho I've started trying different oils the last couple years.
(Edit): forgot to add, opti-2 is also sold at both my local stihl and shindaiwa dealers. As you said, if long time dealers carry it, it must not be bad!

AWESOME!!! there's still a few genuine good ole' boys out there!! I have a 371 Special that a friend of mine gave me and got it especially for me at an action he went too...that saw will never leave me as he passed away suddenly from a heart attack 3 months later..I'm gonna go through the saw as well as a personal Stihl 041 that was his personal saw as well...but I'm not exactly sure the difference in the "Special" in the 371 series...but the stater cover states "371 Special" ...but at any rate..thanks for the content...and keepem' comin'!!! Daniel thank you for sending this awesome gentleman that loves to work on power saws and show everyone how to tune and beef the saws up!!! That is definitely so awesome buddy!!! Being in a good position to donate something in this caliber is so awesome for sure!!! I definitely wish that I was in a good position to give to others also because I definitely would do the same thing also!!! I’ve even told my wife that if we was ever so lucky to win the lottery that we would definitely take some of the money to help others that are definitely in need also!!! I mean really at the end of the day it is so awesome to look back at what you have done for someone else that was definitely in the need!! Well tinman what an awesome video buddy and to talk to everyone that helps the channel out in some ways was so cool to see and show how much you appreciate everything that has been given to help you out on the channel!!! Remember keep up all the hard work buddy!!!!

Tinman: QUESTION, I’ve got a vintage 288xp. I rebuilt it. After rebuilding I configured it with the traditional low top cover. It ran fine. But recently, I configured it with the high top air cleaner and top. Saw started up fine, but then died after a short period of idle, then revving it with brake disengaged to check bar oil, and then I put it down to let it run a bit more and it cut out. Is this because the high top air cleaner has ore air coming into carburetor leaning out the mixture too much?

Hi I just started watching you and buckin, and a few others. im finally in a position to buy a decent big boy saw. Do you have a online store? Im looking at something between a 70 and 90cc saw. I live on an island and have 42000acres of big spruce trees that were dropped a number of years ago. Need strictly a buckin saw. 28" bar i think. Thinkin 372xp or jonsered 2188. Dont have a dealer or anything here so kinda shying away from autotune and keep it old school, simple to fix. Any ideas?

Reckon you’ll see some differences in the OEM jugs when they’re side by side.
To my eye the 371 jug appears to have larger lowers than the 372.
Have fun with the build and thanks for sharing 🤘

It’s really funny to listen to all the different opinions of 2 stroke oil and which to use. Your buddy Buckin says use anything or maybe even no oil at all. You say Opti-2 is all you run, and every guy after you has a different opinion.
My experience, they all work as long as you use them. Buy a 2 stroke oil, buy good quality fresh gas, mix it at least 40 to 1 gas to oil, and enjoy your 2 stroke running for a long time.

The 3171 ,371 375 the cases were made of different materials and were between 18 and 22 oz lighter than 372 cases

    • @rockhopperdockhopper5261
      @rockhopperdockhopper5261 ปีที่แล้ว

371,372,375 cases are all magnesium the difference in weight is the extra stiffening ribs and less crankcase volume in the 372 and 375 cases, the 375 came out after the 372 but 18 to 22oz weight difference? I would dispute that

Yeah man…I use that meteor 371 single 1.5mm ring piston in all my 50mm saw’s! You’re loosing some massive lubrication function when you have the two rings and you are not getting a full wash down and across your piston with each stroke of your engine… it’s all about the lubrication!

Is a Jonsered 2171 the same as a Husky 371 or 372 (non x-torq)? I picked up a 2171 (2008 model I think) a couple weeks ago for $100. Haven't got to mess with it but it fires up good and has good compression. Chain brake doesn't work and chain is shot is the only problems I've seen so far. I had been considering a 372 Husky or MS380 Stihl clone saw to fill the gap between my MS180 Stihl and MS660 big bore/ported mildly Stihl clone. Jonsered parts are crazy high so wondered if I could convert over to Husky covers if I have a problem with plastic or starter.

I was at a local dealer today and saw a 372xp for sale. According to the sticker it’s a 2010 model. I’m a big stihl fan but I ain’t scared of trying a known good brand that isn’t German. Is it worth picking up at $575 with a near new 24” bar and chain? The thing looks like it’s in VERY nice shape. 99% of the loggers use stihl because of dealer support so I think it was a firewood cutters saw. On the other side they had a 2020 572xp for $700 but was not nearly as nice cosmetically. Been looking for a 70cc saw and the stihl saws are rare. Just wanna spend money wisely.

I had a husqvarna 51 that stretched (and failed) a cylinder bolt. It was sealed with motoseal. Even only being anchored on 3 corners it only had the slightest WHIFF of an air leak. I could barely tell it even had one. Only discovered the source of the problem on a teardown later. One skinny leak path a couple MM wide. GOOD stuff.
