    I have to say, your channel is very detail oriented and the content is delivered very well. I am absolutely going to follow your example when I redo my 23 foot Center console pro line. I was wondering, over on Andy‘s channel, he typically uses a strainer when pouring paint into a cup. I’ve never really seen that done before and wanted to get your opinion on the necessity of it.

    • @boatpaintingrestorationwit3029
      @boatpaintingrestorationwit3029  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He doesn’t use the accuspray which has built in strainer screens. If I was using any other gun then I would strain the paint as well. Keeps your tip from getting clogged or little trash/clumps from spraying out the gun👌

      Thanks randy. I usually run between 20-25 psi. Really depends if I’m inside or outside and on the wind. Yes I adjust psi with each coat and if I’m adding or subtracting paint flow. Also depends on size of what I’m spraying. 👌

      At work I have 2-23 cfm’s @ 120 psi. Works great. Here at home I have a 29 and 33 gallon tank hooked together. And they work great for small boats,cars, bikes etc. I’d think 16 cfm’s is perfect. 13 is better than what I have at home lol

    Frankie, I am in the process of doing a new transom for a customer, and I finished the transom and rub-rail to waterline with AwlCraft AquaMist. With that said, after spraying the entire boat with primer, and then AquaMist, I somehow totally missed a small area of print through of my glass work on the transom. It is a small spot, but a spot I will be fixing. Do you recommend I just respray the whole transom seing as its such a small area? Or, do you recommend that I just try to repair that one area? I have plenty of product to respray that whole transom, it is no big deal for me to do so. Also, what grit do you recommend if I have to spray over awlcraft after its been on there for 24 hours but less than 1 week? 1000 grit is what I would normally use, however I trust your opinion! I figured I would come to you for a recommendation on this one, as Gelcoat is my main bread and butter, but I do occasionally spray AwlGrip/Awlcraft. I usually would just respray the entire transom since I just sprayed it, but, I figured id ask your opinion! I really love AwlCraft man, after spraying this last time and having a few nightmare gelcoat jobs over the last month due to bad gelcoat from my supplier, I just wish I could spray nothing but AwlCraft, I am so sick of gelcoat to be honest. so many variables that can effect an entire job with Gelcoat!

      I try to show it the best I can in the videos. Speaks more then words. lol f you’ve sanded the boat with 80-120 grit, next step is wash it with scotchbrite equivalent to 220 grit. Let dry and then mask off and solvent wipe. Apply 2-3 coats or more of 545 or 442 epoxy finish primer. After that glaze out all visible flaws. Within 24 hrs is best. Then quick sand with 220 grit then slow down and sand everything with 320. Rinse again with water and a ultra fine scotchbrite. Re-mask and solvent clean and tack wipe and spray topcoat. Good luck buddy 👌👌

Also, did you use the same batch for all these coats, or did you have to mix new batches for each coat? I guess the real question here is, how long can a mixed batch be stored before it can no longer be effectively sprayed? Thanks my man.

      Qt 545 base, qt 545 converter, qt T0006 reducer. This 25% and that will give you over a half gallon of primer. ( plenty)
      Qt awlcraft ( color of your choice), qt G3010 converter, qt T0003 reducer. Again, this 25%. This will get you done. On a side note, if you by chance are wanting to paint it red then get 2 qts. Takes a lot more to get color coverage with red. Just wanted to throw that out there just in case. Use a 1.8 or 2.0 spray cap for the primer and use a 1.2 or 1.4 spray cap for paint. Hope this helps and good luck bud 👌
