This 7th generation of the 3 series has got to get things right. Rear wheel drive, 50/50 distribution, plenty of power. All things that you take as a given in a BMW with a 330i badge. This one comes with a 2.0 petrol engine though so there's no silky smooth straight six engine note but is it missed?

How about a 330e next? Test the EV range on the M50 busy/non, EV range around the city centre and try both on hybrid mode.

Short answer, yes its the best mid sized saloon there is.

@@davidyule1973 The 3 is a better all rounder, and way better build quality than the giulia.
@@conoconnor4375 the interior quality is better, but the driving ability both on the track (Giulia QV is fastest saloon around the track in its class) and for normal drivers is superior. A subjective point but the Giulia to me looks better aswell. Neither is a bad choice, most people would be very happy with either.
@@davidyule1973 I take some of what you're saying..but in terms of sales a 3 series, at least in Europe Will vastly outsell the equivalent alfa offering, Italian cars are renowned for their unreliability. Wouldn't touch one with a barge pole, for me the 3 series any day of the week.
Nice car, good video. I wonder why almost every review out there is about the 330 and not the 320i
Sometimes the bigger engined / more powerful bhp cars get released to launch dates etc first. I've a review of the the 2 series 118i filmed so will upload that probably next weekend.

I love this car.
I had a 3 series for years and recently got the current shape 5 series (a 2017 one ) for more room , but as you said nobby the 3 series is a better car to fling around. I like the 5 series but it seems like a barge to me and will definitely go back to this shape 3 as soon as I can
Still though, the current 5 is a lovely car. Regretfully sold a 2004 325ci a few years ago to make way for a 635d but I wish I had held onto it.

A lot of the brands have press cars on hold due to Covid lockdowns so hopefully but not in the short term

I’d love The 530e but in an apartment so overnight charging wouldn’t be a runner and I think without that the value proposition changes seriously as you’ll just be supporting the thirsty 2.0 petrol. I think the hybrid would be next up when home charging is a runner.

Bought a G21 320d X Drive Touring M Sport plus pack in from the UK, no idea what the VRT will be, cause no one else has brought one in. Love the adaptive suspension. Had a 530d X Drive previously on 20's and couldn't live with it on our crappy roads, and license also at risk. Honestly think that 530d is only suited to Germany and places where you can exploit the power. Over here 6 cylinder was asleep 90% of the time and only woke up at silly speeds. Actually more enjoyable driving a 320D on Irish roads. Chassis is far better in the 320d and X drive means it's on rails, and really great to drive on the twisty stuff.
Good point on it being asleep 90% of the time ha! Still sounds good though. Have the 330e soon and that's a handy one for getting around Dublin relatively cheaply.
Could you update your option on 530 vs g21 320? How can you compare it right now? Your 5 was f series?

@@bbttss20 G21 better on twisty roads and more fun than 3.0 x drive g30. Less weight hanging over front end. More road noise though

Hit and miss, it did work but other times it wouldn’t connect on my iPhone 7.
I’ve found it very hit and miss. If the phone is working hard with maps, phone, music and data and wireless charging, it can get hot in that little cubby and then disconnects or freezes

iPhone XS. I prefer to plug it into the USB C in the armrest if I need to charge now. Much faster and no overheating. Makes wireless CarPlay more reliable too.

Stick with the blue IMO
It's 2021 and the software has so many bugs, plus suspension and steering rack issues as well.
Have driven around 7 BMWs with this software and haven’t noticed one single issue with it
For me, the 330d with its 3 litre Diesel engine is the best option. Much cheaper on tax and fuel, yet it goes like stink.
But it’s a diesel and sounds like a diesel...
@@Elnino2910 the 3 litre diesel doesn’t rattle like smaller engines diesels though I had one until recently.
Was there an issue with the tyre pressure sensors or a genuine pressure problem?
I didn't hear about that at all. Is it a G20 issue?
@@NobbyOnCars The warning light is on the dash in your video 13:49. Ambers is usually an initial warning isn't it?
Andy that’s so weird it didn’t have a puncture at all and there’s a yellow one bottom right too. I actually can’t remember how I managed that !

My next car. Don't know whether to get this one or the 380 hp 340. I've driven both and that straight six growls at you. I do a lot of city driving so not sure if the extra power is needed. I own an f 330i and it's not exactly slow but the new 340i is in a different league.

@@NobbyOnCars I would but does it justify the extra money, not sure. My current car is running 335 hp with a few modifications so its quick, but I do miss my old e92 330i sound.

340 look better is faster in my opinion. It will be more desirable when it gets older as well. I think it's worth the extra
Brilliant, a laser option for the lights...finally! I've often wanted to shoot those crap drivers who get in my way; I'd have preferred a Howitzer cannon but meh, I suppose lasers will suffice.
hounestly, whats the problem with USB C cables, I hear it in all the reviews of the newer cars! If you buy this car just buy a few freakin cables it's not like they are super expensive or anything!

I can't help it but when someone often uses the voice command , I think that he has a bossy wife and at least the car listens to him...LOL. Great car but not a huge step different inside and outside compered to the previous model. I know...Audi does the same but still.......
I disagree about the interior, I always felt the last model had a lot of plastic around the gear level and under the radio and the radio itself all looked a bit cheap for the car. It was even more obvious then in the 4 series. This is a lot more in line with the G30 interior.

BMW! CLA is based on the A-Class. 3 Series is better
TheMentalist Yeah, but the CLA is nicer than the C Class that’s why. If they refresh the C class maybe then it will be great. Which car do you think is great and not that expensive?
Cla is not even close to bimmer...in all aspects...it s not even in same class

This BMW or the Audi Q3 or the Volvo XC40? I Know they don’t compare but yeah😂
Quite the mix there lol! All very different and in that sense, hard to compare. Q3 is nicely finished, it won't give a drive like a 3 series. Volvo I don't have any experience of but I do really like the latest stuff from them, they look premium and the interiors are lush.

what is sickening is when you walk into a bmw dealership and see what the base cost of a bmw actually is. I remember seeing 2017 z4 for base price of 32k, add on excise, vat and vrt and the retail price shot upt0 51.5k,. Without PAYE and motorists the Irish government wouldn't have a penny to spend especially when you realize that corporation tax only accounts for about 30% of the entire tax take.

Though I'd rather a genesis 3.3t awd over bmw..the genesis 3.3t has insane power and awesome luxury! For less $!
BMW's dont really change much they've looked the same for years. And seriously overpriced and the depreciation is awful..

At the end of the day you said it was twin turbo which it isn’t when you should of said what you replied back to me after you googled it. Oh and to be clear it’s twin scroll turbocharger not turbochargers as there is only one!

Clearly an anti BMW fan boy. Nothing to see here! I've owned plenty of these cars and, the good ones have leg extenders, for fans of the sports seats, it's a relevant comment. Nobby On Cars actually I own an E90 M Sport with the thigh extensions but that isn’t what makes it a BMW TBH. It has a manual 6 speed with non-electric steering that feels absolutely amazing to drive daily. The new BMW loaners I’ve driven have lost their way.
Good for you, I’ve driven and owned many going back to the E30 to present day. I’ve owned an M3. A 335i that cost €80,000 new. A E36 318is. Three 6 series including the current 640d, two 5 series... I don’t need to be educated in what makes the car a BMW. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but don’t come on here and make assumptions on the basis of a comment I make about the seats in the car. Nobby On Cars much respect, but I honestly feel that any “BMW wouldn’t be a true BMW” without that connected BMW feel of the steering, not the “thigh bolsters.” 2002’s and anything before didn’t have thigh bolsters but were every bit BMW. You gotta admit that BMW has lost that connected feeling in all of their cars, M included, or you’re simply not being honest. That’s all.
