    Giving up television was never really a conscious decision for me. Why watch it? It's pointless.

      @@fromthepeanutgallery1084 There's a lot more to choose from on TH-cam though! I would argue that there is a lot of useful information on here, but one should probably get out of the consumer head-space as much as one can.

    • @xxcxpl
      @xxcxpl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are "few" who "know". They don't need to be preached - they just gather around simple "truth" that is common deep inside. It's preachers and sheep I'm fucking horrified with 🤘

    Extremely important message, but I don’t think you need to go as far as to completely deny culture and cut yourself off from the entertainment value provided by it. Sharing in the enjoyment of watching certain TV shows can bring about a connectedness with fellow humans. I do agree however though that obsession with celebrity is a total waste of your life and precious mental energy.

    • @brandonthesteele
      @brandonthesteele 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make your principal occupation with creating culture instead of consuming it, that's what the message is here. Get in touch with yourself more do something with whatever erupts forth. He comes off really absolutist here, but what he's really talking about is that obsessive regard for cultural ephemera that was rife in his day.

  • @mariamurphy4631
    @mariamurphy4631 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Uh. Choose what you consume. Be conscious of why you choose it. Be responsible for what you do with it. Control your own mind.

    On the other hand, if there exists a cultural norm that prioritizes creativity and novelty above function (particularly in the case of making new gagets) there can be a stagnation of creativity because of the bias that new is good. Some might say that "you don't have to reinvent the wheel" is a proverb that illustrates my point here.

    • @oskargarden4559
      @oskargarden4559 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      cheesepuff , it is nonsense. “Creativity” can and should not be the leading instrument. The basic concept of art is that some produce and some consume. The world is not NYC smug dude fairy land

      it depresses me still how social media was not used to make anything positive, its just cultural consumption. even less creativity than the web before big social media arrived. all the stuff posted is the same, we turn it all into memes.

    Stay ahead of the curve.....step into the curve.....or be the curve. Right. A friend of mine who said if she started a skincare or cosmetic company she would have me as the spokes model....because she that being something other than the obvious ......that would be something to do.... was So yes my friends you found what we lost.
    We worked at a place in West LA that closed down and we lost touch.....it was happenings with me. The number.....it should not have been changed. Lost touch with good people. Maybe I saw Jackie this morning.

    What utter nonsense. Stereotype of the smug NY gay dude

    • @bigrockydennis4216
      @bigrockydennis4216 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Terence McKenna wasn't just some gay dude from the upper west side of Manhattan. He was correct about the ability to create your own culture. I'm creating my own personal culture. I call it "Romance Culture" because its centered around things that are beautiful, mysterious and romantic. Terence McKenna may have been a psychedelic mushroom head, but he did make good sense about a lot of things!
