Listening to Terence McKenna is like being on mushrooms. Everything makes perfect sense during the experience, then you forget all of the details afterwards but absorb the overall message into your being 😅
I do not disagree with McKenna's interview and idea, but I believe that this feeling of the time speeding up has something to do with us not being enough in the present, "in the now" moment. When we were kids, we were constantly in the present moment. Enjoying and being caught up with the moment's which life brought us every second, and thus the days seemed eternal. Now, as we are growing up, we are constantly waiting for something. Constantly looking into the future. Waiting for that Weekend, for that end of the month, for that salary, for that holiday, for that date etc etc... So we are caught up with this rushing, mentally always being in the future and we are loosing so many beautiful moments of which we are simply not aware. I truly believe, one of the secrets is to slow down, meditate, or do anything that will help you to ground yourself in the now and be aware of each moment and simply enjoy every single one of it. You will feel the time slowing down..
Be in the now then you'll realise there is no concept of time only our ego trying to give us the illusion of time. You'll start to realise that there has always been now in the past and the future
I so want to live in the now all the time. It's bliss in the moments I can achieve it. But modern society, at least in the U.S., makes it damn near impossible. From our earliest ages we're being trained to look toward the future, to live 100% to make the future better. Gotta go to school, gotta get a 4.5 GPA to get into a good college to make money for the rest of my life. Essentially making decisions specifically for your future self for better or worse, to benefit yourself in the future. From day one, soon as school begins. The entirety of modern life is built on living for the future.

I think it’s more about the amount of new input we get. Kids are new to the world and get stimulated by anything but older people already know how the world works so they arent as stimulated to input. Like how a computer slows down when there is too much info to process. You can also see this in psychedelics: time slows down as your brain makes new neural networks. Just like when you are in the ‘flow’ time speeds up because you ‘become one’ with the experience. That way, new input is processed quicker than normal.
Time always seems to pass quickly for children because they have experienced less time. Therefore each event is a larger percentage of their life, than would be that of an adult. Great example is summer vacation when you’re 8 years old summer vacation seems to last forever, it’s nearly 1/4 of your memorizable life. When you’re 17, summer vacation is a blip as it’s merely 1/15 of the same.

In my humble opinion~ it really should feel like time is moving slower because we have SO many modern conveniences that give us more time that we didnt have 100 years ago.
Terence presentations are incredible. He gets it. I’ve known fully since before 2000. For whatever reason, I had this disclosed to me via means that blew my mind. Enjoy the journey. Best to all.
Absolutely love After Skool videos. Mix that with the wonderful mind of Mr. McKenna and you get to witness a masterpiece. Thank you for putting out videos of this nature. Forever a fan.
I feel like time is just a tool used to understand movement trough space. And I think it's rather human history that appears to go faster because we know a lot about what's happening today, but we know less about history from 1000 years ago, and even less from millions of years ago. All we know from prehistoric times is based on objects or fossilized remains that have been found, and not on events that have been written down. This doesn't mean that only evolution happened, it is just the only thing we know for sure. Dinosaurus for example also lived their daily lives and probably had some conflicts, struggles and other events as well.
"We want to know what happened a thousand years ago and what will happen in 10 years not the opposite" If you want to know who's quote is this, it's mine. But it's more stylish and you give it more importance of it's quoted Lmao
Time = events over space squared, OR events over space cubed, OR events over space (*8), etc., all the way up to tetrahedron crystal lattice matrices . Aka spacetime.
@@tobiaslagos two things. Number 1, i was referring to exponential increases when comparing two points in different space/times, that is when looking at it from within the viewpoint of a purely linear time flow. (Technically time doesn't have to be linear. But that's a whole other set of variables and scenarios.) 2., 'space' is actually a variable that holds several variables inside it, and probably aren't fixed variables to boot as relativity would be involved. Relativistic distances would have to be compared and calculated at both points of space/ time(that is, their relationship and distances from other physical objects/spaces), and compared in order to accurately get safely from point A to point B.
Time seems to speed up because perception. A month is longer to a 5 year old because they've only lived through 60 months, whereas an 50 year old has lived through 600.
The reason in part is because the Schumann resonance was at a much slower pace. As we move through less dense realities we will feel a slippery sensation of perception in our consciousness. Taking in more and more.
I’m in awe of how far Terence McKenna was ahead of his time , given this all adds up and makes sense in 2021, but he was talking about it in 1998. When I really do think about it, it’s quite evident, you’ve just got to remove the veil of the stagnant mind. If you understand the following statement, you’ve really thought about it deeply.... “In a world conditioned to adapt to technological change, the organic essence of human nature slowly dissipates into conscious ash”
I like how this is ALL under the assumption that we are the first "conscious" entities to seed the "universe." Not only that, but our current versions of known bio-chemistry and physics are somehow COMPLETE and understood. Terence McKenna talks "pretty" and he definitely had some neat ideas, but don't get it twisted... It's all subjective
I don't think his presentation is "twisted" at all. He is speaking from the perspective of a human, about humanity generally. His description of this is not necessarily mutually exclusive of the same phenomenon perhaps occuring dozens or billions of times before and after us, on other planets. After all, aren't we just part of a computer program from a previously developed super-advanced awareness?
I remember as a kid having summer period when their would be no school at all. I always thought it lasted 6 months until in grade 7 someone said it was only 2 months. I was so confused because it felt so much longer than that. And now after grade 7, summer feels so short now compared to what it used to be. By summer I mean the school break we get.
This whole "time seeming faster as you age" or "time seeming slower as a child" feeling can be explained with some simple logical exploration. When you are 10 years old, a year is one tenth of your entire life. Youth brings with it the illusion of immediacy, one year to a ten year old feels so long because to the perception of a ten year old time is more immediate, living in every moment under this perception of time makes it feel slower. As you age, a year becomes 1/20, 1/30 of your life, and so on the impact of time feels less immediate because you are getting used to aging. You are familiarizing yourself with the concept of time as you age, making it APPEAR to move by faster than it truly is. If we normalized mindfulness meditation and less 24/7 technological distraction time would go back to feeling slower. You are speedballing through life by your own choice my good man, stop and smell the roses!
you are trying to solve too difficult problem or watch too good movie ... take a walk, that's how time goes to its normal pace ... and problems, even tough one, get solved ;).
I found this because i feel that the speed of the music i listen to varies. i can listen to a song and remember the tempo but it will feel faster but never slower than the tempo im used to
The explanation i heard that best explains this goes like this: as we grow older, we experience more events and go through more days, making time feel faster as we grow older because we constantly have more “content” and memories behind us. when we were younger we didn’t have any experiences so it felt slowrr
Before this starts I've been saying for yrs that our whole solar system is spinning faster, check ur TV clock and on the turn of a new minute close ur eyes and start to count (like most were taught) 1 Mississippi 2 Mississippi 3 Mississippi) and so on. Then when u reach 60 seconds check ur TV clock it will be approximately 15-20 seconds ahead, it seems these days u wake up, gulp down a coffee get to work unpack tools its lunchtime, you start work again and check ur watch its time to pack up, you get home have food and bath, stone me its bedtime, yet once upon a time you could get so much done in a day, this applies whilst unemployed, time is for sure speeding up, but I think we don't see it because its down to the earths orbit speeding up , so much more to say on this matter but I now wish to watch clip, one love.
Thats because it takes longer to say Thirty-one Mississippi than it does One Mississippi. This extra time to say double digit numbers adds up. If you say One-Mississippi 60X it will equal a minute.
Very well said. And to add to that. As we grow older, we learn how to better fit circumstances and experiences into categories. So. Overall, we are packaging up our experiences and it life seems less enriched when we step outside and look at it. To get around this. We should enrich ourselves with new information. Study new things, take up new hobbies meet new people-use your body more if you didn’t before. Use your mind more if you didn’t before. Try a new diet. Anything to enrich ourselves further. The world has an infinite amount of things to see
I feel like the emotions expressed in this video can only truly be understood by people born before 2005. Otherwise the speed with which mankind’s moving just seems like part of life to the young ones. Like fish in the fish tank you don’t know that there’s a greater world outside what you know is the tank
I've always felt like the reason it feels like time is speeding up as you age is that when you are younger the proportional passing of time in relation to your life is much larger. This makes it seem like time took much longer to pass whereas it was only the relative change which made it seem so long. Now I'm older a year passes much faster, only because its a smaller unit of my entire existence.
@Philip Shirk I hope you don't mind I peeped into your channel it seems you are also interested in artificial intelligence and stuff why don't we network you can message me on improveproductivity userID on either of the two platforms I am waiting
Hey, nice video. But I do have to say that Terrence’s timewave theory was largely debunked by his contemporaries, and even by his own brother. It is not a scientific ‘theory’ as it is sometimes presented. He never defines his variables for novelty, is not objective in his assignment of ‘significant’ times, and his math didn’t hold up to scrutiny. It is a nice bit of philosophical speculation and an imaginative idea, no doubt.
@@ThatGuyDownInThe Agreed, Terence himself says in this speech that it may not be 2012 but even if it happens in 500 years it is still only a small fractal of time considering the whole of universe's existence. Also, all of Terence's work is based mainly on his own experiences and THE experience is what he was all about, point being that nothing lasts and science is trying to permanently measure and deduce something impermanent. Regarding the "objectivity" of significant time spans in his timewave theory, they are not picked by him, they are the result of his measurements that are in accordance with the I - ching (the book of change) system.

Enlightenment, clarity, nirvana, happiness, living in the present.... is all real, and it's something anyone can do. I was a terrible man for 21 years, my entire life, and 21 years and 5 months into my life I started a new life.. No matter how low a human can go, there will always be room to move up. If you want to achieve this, start by exploring within yourself and don't stop until you know why you did everything bad in your life and know you can never do such thing again. This naturally sounds offputting to people, and it did to me, I never would have choose to seek out and root out my humanity, not that that is at all what YOU should do, it isn't most likely, but it happened and I literally felt shot across the universe, and here i am
I had a spiritual awakening at 17 y/0. The knowledge he is referencing was shown to me as well.... thou I havent been able to word it quite as elegantly as Terence (not for a lack of trying) Being a philosopher writer these days is much different than ever before.
I think this is premised on having a memory of events. older people tend to say that time is moving faster because they're memory is not as good therefore they ask "How did we get to the end of the week already? It was just Monday..." And the youth beg for the weekend to come faster because more stuff that is happening is remembered.
I highly recommend being most present while at work, thereby increasing the speed and which you complete your tasks and getting yourself home faster. There you can slow down; and on the weekends experience eternal bliss - 52 times a year.

"Where did the time go?" is a phrase commonly use by someone who has been distracted. The question is.. Distracted from what? You are missing out on something. Time is grace, my friends. Use it wisely
my daughter is named Grace so your comment hit different. like wasting my time is losing my relationship with her as I'm spending less time with her, as you say, missing out...

I just want to remind you that time is a "tool" that helped us a lot in the past. It is not something that controls you neither has its own will
Exactly and if I may ask just curious
how do you still interpret time as a factor or phenomenon to do your day to day jobs?
@@improveproductivity normally... Meaning, the same way everyone does. I just don't get anxious about it. I am usually late though, that makes some people angry giving me the opportunity to have a conversation about time. 😁 Having a watch helps me a lot, it tracks time instead of me.

I clicked on this video expecting some drawn out stuff. I got an animated Journey instead. This is much better than I expected. Definitely love it.
"We want to know what happened a thousand years ago and what will happen in 10 years not the opposite"
If you want to know who's quote is this, it's mine. But it's more stylish and you give it more importance of it's quoted Lmao
Time = events over space squared, OR events over space cubed, OR events over space (*8), etc., all the way up to tetrahedron crystal lattice matrices . Aka spacetime.
Co Re tf? So you’re basically saying that x^2 = x^3? Makes no sense to be honest...
@@tobiaslagos your equation doesn't hold all the variables mentioned.
@@tobiaslagos two things. Number 1, i was referring to exponential increases when comparing two points in different space/times, that is when looking at it from within the viewpoint of a purely linear time flow. (Technically time doesn't have to be linear. But that's a whole other set of variables and scenarios.)
2., 'space' is actually a variable that holds several variables inside it, and probably aren't fixed variables to boot as relativity would be involved.

Soon be Christmas as one of my friends always jokes
"The summers seemed to last forever " Bryan Adams

MADE IN HEAVE
I like how this is ALL under the assumption that we are the first "conscious" entities to seed the "universe." Not only that, but our current versions of known bio-chemistry and physics are somehow COMPLETE and understood. Terence McKenna talks "pretty" and he definitely had some neat ideas, but don't get it twisted... It's all subjective
wholeheartedly agreed, but compared to fox news and opera this is my version of sanity thus far ;-)
Terrance McKenna was a wizard of our time. I truly resonate with his messages. Thanks for the great video content. Love and light to all ! 🙏🏻💚💫☝🏼🌎

Lately i feel like time is literally speeding up. like an hour goes by in what feels like 15 minutes

That's it, pucci got made in heaven guys

Before this starts I've been saying for yrs that our whole solar system is spinning faster, check ur TV clock and on the turn of a new minute close ur eyes and start to count (like most were taught) 1 Mississippi 2 Mississippi 3 Mississippi) and so on. Then when u reach 60 seconds check ur TV clock it will be approximately 15-20 seconds ahead, it seems these days u wake up, gulp down a coffee get to work unpack tools its lunchtime, you start work again and check ur watch its time to pack up, you get home have food and bath, stone me its bedtime, yet once upon a time you could get so much done in a day, this applies whilst unemployed, time is for sure speeding up, but I think we don't see it because its down to the earths orbit speeding up , so much more to say on this matter but I now wish to watch clip, one love.
....I always feel like iam running out of time..
I thought that too. About the Mississippi counting I had the same thought! Time is speeding up.🤔🤔
Bro just time the minute on ur stopwatch it’ll be 60 seconds/minute

I feel like the emotions expressed in this video can only truly be understood by people born before 2005. Otherwise the speed with which mankind’s moving just seems like part of life to the young ones. Like fish in the fish tank you don’t know that there’s a greater world outside what you know is the tank
The faster you move in life the slower your environment becomes the slower you move the faster the activity of your environment becomes
: VEL : so true man
I've always felt like the reason it feels like time is speeding up as you age is that when you are younger the proportional passing of time in relation to your life is much larger. This makes it seem like time took much longer to pass whereas it was only the relative change which made it seem so long. Now I'm older a year passes much faster, only because its a smaller unit of my entire existence.
Better title: The rate of events that humans care about is speeding up and will soon reach infinity.
Just what i thought . He pretty much is only talking bout things happening on Earth, that the rest lf the universe might find insignificant

It is a nice bit of philosophical speculation and an imaginative idea, no doubt.
why can't you just appreciate the beauty of what this idea is for what it is
@@ThatGuyDownInThe Agreed, Terence himself says in this speech that it may not be 2012 but even if it happens in 500 years it is still only a small fractal of time considering the whole of universe's existence.

A Year seems like a month... A Month seems like a week and a Week seems like a day. Everything goes by so quick... Don't you think so?
I come back to this from time to time lol 😅😅😅
I think this is premised on having a memory of events. older people tend to say that time is moving faster because they're memory is not as good therefore they ask "How did we get to the end of the week already? It was just Monday..." And the youth beg for the weekend to come faster because more stuff that is happening is remembered.
I highly recommend being most present while at work, thereby increasing the speed and which you complete your tasks and getting yourself home faster. There you can slow down; and on the weekends experience eternal bliss - 52 times a year.
