Thanks if you do do this. I do recommend 1 change. Get the 2k clear coat with the hardener in it. This method worked and it lasted me about 2-3 yrs but I’ve been driving back and forth across the US and the road chips and everything have finally started getting to it. The 2k I think would’ve been more resilient and last longer. www.amazon.com/Spray-High-Gloss-Clearcoat-Aerosol/dp/B00W2D806Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=2k+clearcoat+aerosol&qid=1626796194&sprefix=2k+clearco&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A1UMBRA5ZTBCX8&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyQkIzSEZMM1RTSzVXJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTU5NjI0MzBOVFg3WEJOTlI1SSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMzc4NzkwVzRWUDlUNFM5RFZaJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfcGhvbmVfc2VhcmNoX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
Cyborg82SS well I’m approaching a year now. And all is holding great as far as normal wear. No paint faded, it held great. The only spots I have seen with any issues are on the grill pieces when i have had a small rocks hit it driving behind a car. So in one or two spots I can see where it has a small chip or two but I think that would’ve happened even with the normal paint/chrome. I am planning to make a video to show how it held up soon. But I’m pleased with it still
1 savage so far still pretty decent. I could stand to touch up a few spots in the front but it did really well. I’d prob have wrapped or hyrdodipped them if I was as big on that back when I first got the car but any of those options should work well and save a good bit of $. The bronze pieces are holding up perfectly oddly enough.
@@GetItAtWiLL I too am shocked at the price of the trim pieces. How would you go about hydro dipping them, its not a diy thing right? Would that be as durable as paint?
Brett Blakeway oh yea they have hydro dip sheets you can buy in different colors or designs. Lay it on the water surface and spray the hydrophobic chemical on it to “activate” the sheet or film if you will. Base coat the part if you want, Dip the part, clear coat it. Bingo. I’ll try to do something here soon. Check out some of the videos on TH-cam. I’ve seen plenty of good ones. Some people try spraying paint in the water to make their own designs but the pre-made films seem to be the way to go.
James Ogles right. Lol I even started doing it to the interior pieces too and they are much easier to do. And they can be wrapped pretty easy too if you prefer that as opposed to painting them.
Saab Turbo I took all the chrome trim out. I was already doing the holden emblem swap so I just went ahead and took it all apart while I was at it. That made it easier to sand and scuff for paint adhesion too.
@@GetItAtWiLL How hard was it to take out the chrome trim pieces from the bumper ? I am not too mechanically inclined when it comes to taking things apart. Do you think it was relatively easy to take the bumper and the trim pieces off?
Saab Turbo it’s not too bad. I was worried a bit at first because I read post that said the clips were a b***h. It was a tedious process but went way easier than I expected. I didn’t run into any complications. It’s mainly getting all the little tabs unsnapped at the same time. You’ll get into situations where you’ll unsnap a tab in one spot and a tab in another spot falls back in. I just used small flatheads and things of the such to keep the tabs unclipped periodically as I worked my way around the trim. Putting it back together was definitely cake.
@@GetItAtWiLL Thank you for the info. I am in the process of buying SS and dont want to spend 500$ on buying the blacked out trim kit. I will try my best and hopefully get this thing done. ps. Just wondering if you live in atlanta. Maybe you can help me with the black out trim
Saab Turbo I actually live about 3 hrs south of Atlanta so I would def help but I’m currently deployed out of country so it really depends on when you get your SS.
vincealinceable so far so good. I changed the color of the side vents to match my rims but the front trim pieces are still the same black paint from when I posted this. Still looks like it came from the factory. I’m very pleased with it.
You dont want to apply any sealants to freshly painted surfaces and a good rule of thumb is to let paint cure for a good 30 days prior to applying any sealants like wax or that ceramic sealant. The paint wont be able to gas off properly during the curing process and it will not set right over time and it will adversely affect the life of the paint. Its not something you notice the first couple days but maybe a year out you will see it. Good video otherwise, liked the header install vid too.
Luis Chavez appreciate the advice. I didn't apply my ceramic coating directly after painting the pieces. I believe I waited a week but I know I didn't wait 30 days though so I wish I had known this sooner. I'll make sure to include this tip in the description. Thanks
I am glad to see your video and Thank you for sharing. I too want to save some money to be able to afford other mods. Great work by the way.

Great video, looking to do this to my SS soon. Thanks for sharing the process.
Zach Hansson no problem. I hope it can be of some help. Worked great for me
Looks very clean. I want to do the same to my chrome
Good work. I'm curious how it's holding up too. I need to do my upper door trim.
Looks good in the video....... how’s it holding up?

Did you take out all the chrome trims on the front or did you just spray painted the chrome trims while on the bumper ?
