I’m surprised that Steve doesn’t know how to open Margaret’s door. Couple goals!
I've owned about 45 chickens in my life. Every single one was a rescue. So I've spent a lot of time trying to protect chickens.
If you made a door that Steve could open every single raccoon in the neighborhood could open that door.

@@Madronaxyz I thought the same thing but looking at the video, the door just opens with a simple hook and not a latch so I was really confused 🤷♀️ I have rabbits outside and know about predators, it looks like a fox could open that in no time!

Hopefully, the more people see that chickens have their own lives, preferences, dislikes and friendships just as we do, the sooner they’ll realize how wrong it is to abuse them on factory farms and then steal their lives for a soon forgotten snack for selfish people.

When a chicken has it figured out. Life is simple, but we have to unnecessarily complicate it.
I am an avowed chicken fan. They are so smart and lovable. I have had "house chickens" several times over 50+ years. My very favorite was a tiny, white, frizzle bantam hen given to me by our livestock sales guy. He had rec'd a big shipment of chicks and only a day later realized there was 1 tiny chick- only 1! She was a talker from the day he dropped her off with me, so it was obvious her name was Chatty Cathy. She loved tepid tea several times daily when she took a break from her outdoor chicken friends and came in the dog door for tea and a nap. Her outdoor friends would wait around for Cathy to come back out then off they would go for their own "hen party". Cathy, like Steve, slept indoors. She cuddled with an older English Bulldog each night. Cathy lived too short a life for me but it was a full, full life with many friends for many years. Thank you for reminding me of my friend.

I love these kinds of videos because normally people show selective empathy for cats and dogs but not for cows, pigs or chickens. Slaughtering them for food is absolutely normal for these plaster saints. If I'm not wrong these animals can also experience a full range of emotions such as joy, fear, love, despair, and grief. But people are quick to change their moral values depending on their self interests. Dogs and cats are the lucky ones because humans get to decide it.

This is why ive decided to get rid of all cats and rats in the area of my chickens since the neighbor's cat and some rats will sneak in. Only the rats get through though since the roosters are fierce. However a rat mother killed 12 chicks in total of 2 of my hens on different occasions. I won't forget the time my uncle came jumping down the stairs when we told him that the rat poison worked!

Without seeing it, I imagine Azza's comment was completely correct, since people like you don't realize BOTH roosters and hens are chickens. It's like saying 'the human is the one that has the kids, the other is the male.' * No, humans come in male and female and chickens come in rooster and hen.

Life and Death, Roosters and Hens and little chicky eggs,we really arent that different when a hawk divebombs our heads.
This is why we never killed our hens when they got old and couldn't lay eggs. We did kill the roosters though. We did that because they did kill each other, so we only kept one rooster.

This is what I call a healthy marriage, they both have special needs and have the security and strength in their marriage to decide that they are comfortable with different sleeping arrangements, not even most humans are willing to admit that.
Watching this as I’m sitting with my rooster, he’s so in love with all his ladies, cares for them and panics when they don’t wake up right away. He doesn’t like watching other roosters on my phone though🤣 had to add that Margaret is a beautiful Americana, they’d make some interesting babies!

Their babies would be adorable I'm sure. Too many are in need of rescue though. We wouldn't have had room to assist Steve & Margaret when they needed help if we hatched babies.
