So I just discovered a gem in the 3rd round of the draft. Lias Andersson, 18 yrs old, Swedish Center, Sniper, 5'11, 72 OV at the draft, Top 9 fwd potential. Already a great skater, great with the puck, great sens and pretty strong. Ironically shooting(and defense) is his weakest attribute, Y'know, I shouldn't help you because I'm a Habs fan and you picked the Leafs, but hey, I'm Canadian, I'm a nice boy.
In the scouting, you pin the players so you can keep track of them throughout the season, it's not done automatically, and then in the draft there's a tab with your pinned players to see if they've been drafted or not
Johnny in the bottom part of the "Propose Trade" you can see how many players you have under contract. So when you're signing free agents and you don't know who to sign don't go all the way to another screen because Free Agents and Propose Trade are in the same little menu

if you want to see the top players of the draft press on your right joystick when you are on the franchise mode home screen and scroll to team info and then go to the nil entry draft thing and you will see the top players for the draft

Hey Johnny, personally I love the current Toronto squad, but theres one change I think would help build Matthews. I dont see the leafs as a playoff team first season, so i think building up matthews with some younger players with similer skills would really help. The player that come to mind to play with Matthews for me is John Drouin in Tampa. As for how to acquire him, maybe Laich who is getting older and a 2nd and 3rd? I just traded Jagr and a 2nd for Drouin in my FLA GM mode and Drouin paired with Barkov and Heuberdeau is working wonders. Those younger players with similar skills work well.
So you made Marner and Nylander have better potentials than players like Draisaitl and Ehlers. You also got rid of Horton which is stupid. Talk about a realistic GM mode...
Ehlers and Marner are pretty comparable prospects. I'd give the slightest edge to Marner but they posted similar CHL stats and Ehlers has the benefit of having a decent NHL season (43 point pace, had a much higher PPG in the 2nd half of the season).
His cap counts in the off-season and the Leafs have to make sure they have enough cap space to be able to put him on the LTIR. He basically gave himself an easy way out (if he kept Horton, he would have to send down players in order to accommodate Horton's 5M cap (could then call those players back up after Horton is placed on the LTIR)).
trade for matthew dumba im not aware of his potential in the game but minnesota can use offence and toronto has a lot of offence and toronto needs a rhd and he is 22 years of age and i think he is 84 overall so i would recommend a trade of either nazem kadri or a kerby rychel and some add ons. all depends if you are trying to go for the playoffs this year which i think would be foolish but dumba adds an element to your defense that is missing.
one thing id want to see is a Goalie split percentage feature. so like the dallas stars can split the games 50/50 between goalies and the canadiens can have price play 90% like he does.
You have good depth in the AHL so focus on growing your younger players and focus on the future. If you do try to go for the cup this year some of your younger players won't grow as much as they would in the AHL and plus you probably won't beat team like the Penguins or Rangers in the playoffs
Roy is a REALLY good cheap centre to get in FA if you want to free some cap vut still have a formidable team! He costs around 600k and will boost scoring for about two years before he retires. He was 4th in scoring on my islanders franchise! By the way im from the Danforth so im happy you're doing Toronto!!!

The mindset right now would be to isolate your main prospects: *Nylander, Matthews, Marner, Kapanen, Rychel* and ship out all the rest with value like Gauthier, Carrick, etc.Use these assets to gain 2 87+ overall forwards for just the year, or long term depending on your findings. So glad Gm Mode is back, here's to another solid year!

This team needs to look to pick up some veteran presence to go along their young up and coming forwards. I add again Mathews needs to be placed on the 2nd line. He will not progress very quick playing 3rd and 4th line minutes. But he needs guys around him if he is playing on the 2nd line because when you look at the roster as it is right now. There is nobody on that 2nd line putting up more than 30 pts. This team could use a RW and a LW scorer. Some cheap guys who can get 40pts a season. Mathews will progress much faster if he has some guys around him. Even a Patrick Sharp, Jason Spezza, Jagr. Trading away some lesser talents like Lupul, and some of the 3rd and 4th liners would not seem to unrealistic. 3rd and 4th line you worry about when you already have your 1st and 2nd line taken care of and a a playoff contender. This team with the way it is set up is a few years away from that.

All these teams still need work and I think any one of them would be good for a gm series.
