He talked about The Stanley Parable in his weekly article Extra Punctuation, comparing it to Beyond: Two Souls and talking about how much better The Stanley Parable is.
Now I want a Deadpool mod for Metal Gear Rising. It's wacky enough in its presentation and story, it already has a protagonist with a sword, healing factor and an insatiable bloodlust. All it needs now is for Raiden to constantly be random and you're set.
+David Lopez Have him get hit by an EMP when the first boss dies so he's running around with a short circuit that makes hallucinate, disabled his inner monologue, but didn't effect his combat proficiency so he wasn't called in for repairs.
Ironically, it seems the film industry might have actually _nailed_ Deadpool's character this time around (thanks almost entirely to Ryan Reynolds' enthusiasm). Also, almost as if prophetically, the XBOX controller at 5:03 is lying by the fireplace in almost the exact same position that Ryan Reynolds/Deadpool is positioned in the seductive 2016 movie promo photos.
I could be wrong but at 4:57 (just before the action comics bit) is that Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool? Was the video edited? A bit further at 05:07 it's him as the Green Lantern... Loved the movie, can't wait for #2! :D
+Pieter Ouborg Yes that was Ryan Renolds as Deadpool from X-men Origins: Wolverine. We tend not to talk about the train wreck that was that movie though.
That movie was only allowed to exist after the studio executives at Fox got the test screening results back on Origins and realized that maybe Reynolds had a point about not fucking with fan favorite characters. And even then sheer bitterness from an unnamed executive (who is presumably on suicide watch after the Deadpool movie got a massive ROI in its opening weekend alone) kept it in development hell until the test footage leaked.
+NotAGoodUsername360 Yeah, those fucking assholes and their politics screwing with our beloved material... At least it turned out for the best, since the movie was AWESOME, and went on to become the single highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, even surpassing Jesus himself in The Passion of the Christ.... _Suck_ _it,_ money-grubbing vindictive executive asshats! :D
My golden rule for humor in a videogame is that it is only allowed to appear in places where it can't be autonomously repeated. That means cut-scenes and dialogue sequences, pretty much. Or possibly little once off elements in the background. If one of the quips your units make when you click on them is a pun, you're doing it wrong.
Fun fact: in an alternate future the X-Force visits, Deadpool has been locked in a bunker for something close to a hundred years, and with nothing else to entertain him guess what he ended up playing with.
Pooltastic Un Fun fact: I've been unable to get my Steam copy of Deadpool to work for 8 or 9 months now, I've also found no advice on how to get it running and have been unable to figure it out for myself. It used to run on my Win 7 PC but on Win 8.1 it hangs on the black screen after Deadpool sprints around for the loading screen.
"Deadpool takes that road-kill and runs from room to room smacking people with it ruining their formal-dresses and making burbling noises with it." ... It's like you have channelled the spirit of Wade Wilson for this very line. It's as if you actually "Get" Deadpool! Bravo!
I mean, deadpool isn't a hard character to "get". He's the personifcation of stupid "teh penguin of doom xD so randum *holds up spork*" bullshit that we were all supposed to grow out of in high school.
It took an entire 2 minutes to figure out if he was praising or dissing DP but I guess I should have been able to figure out which given who's critiquing the game.
I think he's dissing deadpool as a whole, but praising this game for it's translation of him into the medium of video games, but also saying the game itself is pretty average. So, in short, I think his review is: If you like Deadpool, you've got a good chance of liking this game, if not, it's probably not worth your time.
Argeine Thriton No, researching Superman 64 was not the worst mistake of my life. That honour belongs to watching the entirety of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Superman 64 comes in second.
the strong point of conkers bad fur day was never the gameplay, it was the wacky adult humor and fil references, where was that in the banjo games? exactly
Luke Blondell I find it incredible that someone could watch an almost 6 minute review about how repetitive humour is shit only to turn around a make a "still a better love story than twilight" joke, a joke so run into the ground it could strike oil. I wait with baited breathe for you to say you did this ironically.
I was personally hoping that Deadpool would get an open mission based sandbox, sorta like GTA. Maybe he can get one in the future. At the very least I still got plenty of laughs of this game. I salute you Deadpool.
I feel like it was a short trip downhill from _Deadpool_ being greeted as the height of satire about the superhero craze, despite its lack of teeth, to its new home in Disney's slop trough, where any teeth have been ground to paste
Maybe I just read the only good Deadpool Comic ever written. Could definitely be the case. Either way I still blame the writers. (Specifically the one involving Tom Cassidy, Banshee, Siren, and the Juggernaut)
This video changed my life. I used to be a PewDiePie fanboy, voraciously watching every piece of spunk spewed from his mouth. But then, while watching his playthrough of Deadpool, a curious yellow thumbnail caught my eye. I had found the Promised Land, a center for actual humor and wit in a sea of shit. Now I have shed my ignorant shell and reached enlightenment thanks to Yahtzee Croshaw, the Chosen One.
The Abominable GMan I don't get why people hate Pewds. I, personally am not a huge fan and think he's kinda overrated, but people saying he's a shit-head ass-face makes no sense. You don't know him personally, you just don't like his sense of humor or something. That doesn't mean you have to hate.
sergio Estilarte Stanley Parable was never meant to be. Of course it's not blow-for-blow with AAA titles; most AAA's are made by professional studios with lots of money and resource pools; Stanley Parable was made by a really small team of people with nothing but chump change compared to AAA budgets.
Goddamn, 2 months after you posted this, I paused the video and started reading a few comments. Then I saw your comment, went back to the video and... god, the video was paused at the 3:06 mark. Sorry, just had to tell you that.
That's a completely different thing, you idiot. It's more along the lines of being the first person ever to use a soon-to-be-cliche. Watch his review of Half-Life for more information.
Bostaffninja88 i dont know who said that but its basicly this quote in a nutshell "the first who used the expresion `a see of roses` is a genius, the last one a idiot"
Why can't people make video games funny anymore? Intentionally funny. There are gems like Conker, Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, and Stick of Truth, but games take themselves so damned seriously
I hope this is a joke because Ryan Reynolds was a terrible Deadpool the first time he did it(not his fault) they even referenced it in the movie Deadpool in which the portrayal was far better. To long did not read THERE IS NO IRONY AS HE WAS DEADPOOL TWISE AND THE FIRST TIME SUCKED DUE TO BAD WRITTING
That bullshit final boss sequence almost made me want to duct-tape the game disc to a can of gasoline and shoot it with a .45, but the ending was satisfying enough that I decided not to potentially blow myself up.
LOL at the whole comedy bit with the robot voice and Deadpool acting all derpy derpy and the cutting up imps into bits and pieces and the wedgie in the end credits! XD
You know Yahtzee talking about comedy made me realize something. My favorite part of these videos is that they're not fully littered with references to memes. Most internet celebrities either have the same humor as deadpool "(Random Shit). HAHAHA" or throw in meme references into their videos and wait for the applause as if they think they're being smarter than the "Random" humor of other youtubers but what do you think memes are? Random shit made by the dry humor of the internet. Good job Ya...
I'm a huge Deadpool fan, and I found the game lacking... In the comics he's damn hilarious, with depth of character to boot, and the humour is unexpected and not overused cliche or whatever.
Kye, if you can read this, I'm from the future. Please tell me which comics you're talking about. I'm not even being facetious about this. I genuinely want to know which comics people are reading that they find Deadpool so hilarious in. I want to like Deadpool and join the rest of society, but I just can't fucking find them.
@@weezact7 very belated response, the deadpool and spiderman crossover is generally well regarded though it is one of the longer ones and the oneshots aren't a bad place to head(one of them has an assassin killing monkey)
I'm not a Deadpool fan at all. I think he looks cool and he's pretty slick, but he's SUPER annoying. I get the appeal, though. But I gotta say, i do think it's EXTREMELY clever that his self-awareness and ability to break the fourth wall are some of his actual super powers. It's not just a quirk in the writing. Somehow, the infinity stone gives him the ability to see beyond his own universe. That really is a brilliant idea... albeit pretty annoying
People who say Yahtzee was wrong for saying a good Deadpool movie would never get made should remember that the star of that movie had to ILLEGALLY steal and share video footage from Fox in an attempt to get the movie green lit. The fact that the movie got made is nothing short of miracle.
You *REALLY* need to normalize the audio levels in your videos, mate. Not that I don't thoroughly enjoy having my earwax shot onto my brain every time the outro music plays, but *you* might be interested in people being able to hear subsequent videos too. Which, you know, is difficult if we're all deaf.
I´m just guessing here, but from watching/listening to his podcast he is *very* picky about things like audio levels, so most likely we have someone at the Escapist to blame for this.
Having beaten Deapool, I feel it's endearing because it pokes fun at the "system" that the gaming industry force-feeds players. As Yahtzee eloquently worded it: "You can't take the piss out of something that's already taking the piss."
"Game trying to be self aware" ? Yes.... Yes it is... That's the joke in the game actually he makes fun of gaming logic and systems and is self aware "Hey I'm just a clown and this is just a game" Not yes people say that the jokes are not the best or gameplay is boring but at least they realized that its not perfect and didn't make it a full price (( Think it was 40bucks instead of 60 when it came out )) So yea, its sure as hell more we out then what we got from SimCity, Alien Coloniel Marines, Ride to hell or MindJack.... Making a absolute freaking joke that is not funny and making it a full priced title
They need to add this on switch and then add an optional "family friendly mode." Just so we can hear Deadpool having to come up with different family friendly words and catchphrases to say.
This is why I dislike deadpool. I don't think he's funny, I don't think he's interesting, and he just fucks up everything else in the canon. He's nothing but a giant threat to the characters I DO like. Sooo... I guess you could equate him to... A walking tumor?
NegaX99 No he does die almost every time he does "Die" he has a little chat with death itself and then comes back to life. He does die but death can't get a hold on him entirely because of his healing power so he comes back.
Joseph Murray then one day a guy came home screaming "I just saw a saw being sawed by another bigger saw. It was the most epic thing I did see, I mean saw", I think we see-saw, and have seen it all at that point. saw saw saw saw saw... 3...
Yeah... to be honest, I never really liked Deadpool's humor. It's... boring. I hate the term "trying too hard", but that's almost the way it seems to me. Like they're trying too hard to make Deadpool seem funny. His jokes are one-note and rather unimaginative, and when he starts getting into the parody and/or 4th wall breaking, I just sigh and wait for the punchline that I can predict almost word for word.
You sound like someone who didn't read Deadpool until the tittle was, FORCIBLY AND WITH MUCH PROTEST, given to Christopher "where comics are sent to die" Priest. Try reading ANYTHING that came before that hack got ahold of the book. Deadpool had two mini series and his solo monthly book was written by Joe "COMIC GOD" Kelly. He is the guy responsible for putting the character truly on the map.
+TheAllDead1 Not everyone has the same sense of humor, nor does everyone find the same material funny. I never found Deadpool funny, he comes across as a more zany Duke Nukem. I like characters that are funny just for being who they are, not because they're trying to be funny or forcing a joke in where it isn't necessary, or exaggerating an issue to make it seem funnier than it actually is. To me, Deadpool's humor is just plain 'dead'. 12/16/16 Edit: Also I never read Deadpool's comic books. I never read comic books to begin with, aside from perhaps Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes, both of whom I find much more amusing than anything Deadpool has ever managed to spit out. I find BATMAN more funny than Deadpool.
Kiju Axel agreed his humor seems forced as in "I'm a funny character so I say/do funny stuff". It gets old and annoying really fast. Of course it appeals to the 'easily entertained' that's the purpose, but I'd rather be surprised by comedy rather than it being shoved down my throat every 2 seconds. To each his own though.
For some reason I cracked up the hardest at 2:52 when the guy getting knocked down in fancy clothes just let himself fall with those crazy eyes like "My word."
I don't like deadpool, Ive never liked him, there's something about the fact that he doesn't take ANY situation seriously that just puts me off. He constantly boasts about how he can't die but that doesn't seem to put the bad guys off their plan to try anyway. All in all deadpool is NOT funny just painfully random, he has no weaknesses so i find it hard to like him as i do other superheroes. If someone could explain what his appeal is i will take you out to dinner, a movie of your choice and then awkward sex.
I'd rather have an unconventional superhero with no regard for safety and serious and other dumb things, rather than painfully dramatic heroes, looking at you, Spider-Man.
UnBR0k3enAngel Huh, I've always found Deadpool and Spider-Man to be quite similar, just one of then taken to the extreme side of that humor. But then again what the fuck do I know?
Chosen One 41 Actually, they both have the same humor. Unlike Spider-Man, Deadpool just has no reason to be upset. He fights crime for shits and giggles, basically. Think "If Batman was C.K Lewis" then you might have Deadpool. That, or a wise-cracking fatass.
You know, after watching a lot of his stuff, I've noticed something about Yhatzee. For all his dismissal of repetition and blandness, his "humor" is exactly that. Ribbing on Mario, ribbing on Sonic, ribbing on FPSs (or rather, Call of Duty, because THOSE jokes aren't boring yet, are they?), ribbing on triple A titles in general. It's about as textbook and shorthanded as it gets.
Arthur MC Eh? All the jokes involve bloom and grey and lots of railroading. That's not varied. That's just a shorthand to get the public to agree with whatever you may be saying.
Arthur MC Nope. I watched the videos since the Psychonaughts review. I stopped because the reviews weren't actually reviews and just became plain annoying.
Lets just take a moment to appreciate that there is a comedy writer in this world intelligent and sophisticated enough to use the phrase "standard operating procedure" as a punchline.
Yahtzee likes Silent Hill 2, Portal, Shadow Of The Colossus, Arkham series, Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda Wind Waker, Prince of Persia trilogy, Bioshock, Bioshock infinite, Just Cause 2, Far Cry 3, Amnesia, Rayman Origins, World Of Warcraft (to an extent) and Half Life and thats just what I can remember.
One thing I really liked about the game, is just how far it went on the comedy factor. I mean, I slapped Wolverine for a good six minutes before I heard a repeat of a line.
"Oh don't be like that baby superman 64 was years ago!"

Yahtzee is brilliant.
+Sly Cooper Sly aproves. and what about the rest of the team, they aprove as well?
saturn185 yes they do
Fun fact: there was a mini-series in the comics where Deadpool did get sent to an insane asylum.
It did not end well. For anyone.
Well, Im sure it was done tastefully and didn't involve any murder.
It ended with him killing literally everyone right?
Grell Sutcliff Even the writers.
+bryan adkins And then Moby Dick, Sherlock Holmes, and many others.
+Grell Sutcliff are you talking about deadpool kills the marvel universe I loved that comic
"Oh don't be like that baby! Superman 64 was years ago!"
WE WILL NEVER FORGET.
"There's still a lot of room for comedy games that employ actual wit, like Portal."
And this is why I want to see Yahtzee play The Stanley Parable.
Look at the date though. The game only came out in October and up until now he's only done one mod because it had over 1,000,000 players.
Stanley Parable is barely a game
Meester McMannington I'd argue it's a game, just not a very good one.
Meester McMannington HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH you're funny.
He talked about The Stanley Parable in his weekly article Extra Punctuation, comparing it to Beyond: Two Souls and talking about how much better The Stanley Parable is.
"Don't be like that baby!" This guy cracks me up.
4:15 "Where's Deadpool's shirtless wrestling match against Senator Super Sayian Seven?"
I laughed far too hard at this.
Raiden is constantly random, from game to game that is!

I like how in the Deadpool game review he mentions Green Lantern film starring Ryen Ryanolds, the man who is Deadpool
It has come full circle
"Don't make my suit green. Or animated!"
Probably has something to do with the fact that Ryan already played Deadpool at that point.
BOJACKKK
i like how he also mentions deadpool, played by ryan reynolds 4:55

Right, Deadpool in every medium is more high-energy than actually funny
@@AnonJuggerbot Considering that comic books are largely aimed at teenage boys, this seems rather appropriate.

2:22 This pool is dead. It ceased to be.
That Superman 64 reference was fantastic.
Rewatching this now with the new Deadpool movie coming up lol
+itajlo You're not alone.
and it turns out the New Deadpool movie was fucking amazing in most peoples eye's (Mine included)
"Twatting bastardly pancakes."
-Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw
LOL at the whole comedy bit with the robot voice and Deadpool acting all derpy derpy and the cutting up imps into bits and pieces and the wedgie in the end credits! XD
I am table and I find this London.
Tanx 4 dat
Lulwut
Four years after the fact, I have arrived to relay this message:
"OMG, that was so random. U R totes teh funniest person 5ever."
6 years later here I am to say wtf
You know Yahtzee talking about comedy made me realize something. My favorite part of these videos is that they're not fully littered with references to memes. Most internet celebrities either have the same humor as deadpool "(Random Shit). HAHAHA" or throw in meme references into their videos and wait for the applause as if they think they're being smarter than the "Random" humor of other youtubers but what do you think memes are? Random shit made by the dry humor of the internet. Good job Ya...
The only problem I have with DeadPool is that it is really hard to make conflict with someone who can nearly never die.
I lost it at the end when he brought up Siperman 64
"Which is more than the film industry would do"
Oh, how little you knew Yahtzee...
I never noticed this until now, but the blood splatter at 1:10 looks like a hand
Mister Sinister is a original character from marvel comics.
Doesn't make it any less hilariously dumb.
Darkgun231 Still it justifies why it is cliche, Plus in a deadpool game it's mean to be that hilarious.
True, if Deadpool didn't have humor it wouldn't be Deadpool. It'd be... Batpool.
Darkgun231 No if Deadpool didn't have humor it'd be... X Men Origins: Wolverine.
Darkgun231 The joker is funny.
Before watching, I had a feeling that Yahtzee would be lost for words.
NEVER DOUBTING HIM AGAIN.
@@weezact7 comic book fans are drooling morons so what can you expect
@@Mrflowerproductions wow, that escalated rapidly.
@@weezact7 very belated response, the deadpool and spiderman crossover is generally well regarded though it is one of the longer ones and the oneshots aren't a bad place to head(one of them has an assassin killing monkey)
Damn, that was so heavy with sarcasm I'm surprised your hands didn't break typing it.
After watching these for a few years, I realized that the negativity is just a show to keep me coming back.... And I love it!!!
OMG. I started watching this year's ago and I am so happy to say that I've found zero punctuation again! YES!!!
Aye, sounds like a reasonable assumption.
Regardless, my earwax remains splattered across my eardrums. *Someone* ought to fix it at some point.
you could say they were being...IRONIC ((squidarms while chuckling sagely at reference))
SHIFT + CTRL + F5?
What's that do?
crazy banana man gaming fuck you - originality
Alexander Steed It brings up the bookmark manager.
0x28 See? This lad is proof that the internet still has a tiny glimmer of hope left.
Alexander Steed I am not sure what you mean. :P
0x28 Refer to the preceding replies if you're confused. [the ones like "darude - sandstorm" and "fuck you - originality"]
We already had a time when the comic book industry was in bed with the video game industry. It was called The 16-Bit Era.
Love this game to bits, laughed all the way through and am excited to see the film. That'll do Pig.
The last line is reason enough to favorite this.
The genuine irony here is that Yahtzee frequently uses 'random' humour, and is pretty good at it.
There's an art to it. It's very easy to cock that sort of thing up
Having beaten Deapool, I feel it's endearing because it pokes fun at the "system" that the gaming industry force-feeds players. As Yahtzee eloquently worded it: "You can't take the piss out of something that's already taking the piss."
Banana!
Yes! Finally! Your the only reason why I put up with all the other videos on Escapist! I need more of my drug! *twitch*
"Game trying to be self aware" ? Yes.... Yes it is...
That's the joke in the game actually he makes fun of gaming logic and systems and is self aware "Hey I'm just a clown and this is just a game"
Not yes people say that the jokes are not the best or gameplay is boring but at least they realized that its not perfect and didn't make it a full price (( Think it was 40bucks instead of 60 when it came out ))
So yea, its sure as hell more we out then what we got from SimCity, Alien Coloniel Marines, Ride to hell or MindJack.... Making a absolute freaking joke that is not funny and making it a full priced title
I get the feeling you like to watch Angry Joe
+Gilbert Santiesteban What do you mean with that?
They need to add this on switch and then add an optional "family friendly mode." Just so we can hear Deadpool having to come up with different family friendly words and catchphrases to say.
You could watch the Ultimate Spider-Man episode about Deadpool where he couldn’t swear or kill anyone on-screen
This is why I dislike deadpool. I don't think he's funny, I don't think he's interesting, and he just fucks up everything else in the canon. He's nothing but a giant threat to the characters I DO like. Sooo... I guess you could equate him to... A walking tumor?
That end with: 'Oh come on baby superman64 was years ago' XD
The line about the deadpool films hasn't aged well
It saddens me that my brother never used full stops to begin with and now uses LOL :(
deadpool can't die. your argument is invalid.
there is a whole scene in deadpool where he is technically dead, he comes back to life 5 minutes later though
christos1709 he isn't dead if he comes back 5 minutes later. he is knocked out
NegaX99
No he does die almost every time he does "Die" he has a little chat with death itself and then comes back to life. He does die but death can't get a hold on him entirely because of his healing power so he comes back.
raGdOllsAM ok yeah he is dying but he is never actually dead because he just sees death for a couple of minutes, maximum hours but he never dies.
Agreed
Imagine a hotline miami and deadpool crossover
What the f*** did i just saw?
a saw.
How'd you saw a saw?
Joseph Murray with another saw! :D
Joe Gardiner You sir are a genius!
Joseph Murray
then one day a guy came home screaming "I just saw a saw being sawed by another bigger saw. It was the most epic thing I did see, I mean saw", I think we see-saw, and have seen it all at that point.
saw saw saw saw saw... 3...
Loved the last joke! Loved them all actually. You're awesome!
Yeah... to be honest, I never really liked Deadpool's humor. It's...
+TheAllDead1
Not everyone has the same sense of humor, nor does everyone find the same material funny.
It's because Dealpool just has so much damn fun doing what he does that you can't help but have fun along with him
i don't have fun with him!
also: what film do you want to watch?
The Superman 64 made me LOL so hard
who else opened word and pressed shift ctril and f5
One good point for borderlands 2 is how most good lines were not repeated.
family GUY
You know, after watching a lot of his stuff, I've noticed something about Yhatzee. For all his dismissal of repetition and blandness, his "humor" is exactly that. Ribbing on Mario, ribbing on Sonic, ribbing on FPSs (or rather, Call of Duty, because THOSE jokes aren't boring yet, are they?), ribbing on triple A titles in general. It's about as textbook and shorthanded as it gets.
Yeah, it is textbook, but he does it with style
David Mobeck
...No he doesn't.
Arthur MC
Eh? All the jokes involve bloom and grey and lots of railroading. That's not varied. That's just a shorthand to get the public to agree with whatever you may be saying.
Arthur MC
Nope. I watched the videos since the Psychonaughts review. I stopped because the reviews weren't actually reviews and just became plain annoying.
Perry Martin In all honesty, the mistake you are making is treating these as a review.
He mentioned Metal Gear Rising, so now I realized.
Imagine if this game were made by Platinum Games. Like Deadpool: Bayonetta 2.
It would be perfect.
I like the way you summed that up.
The comedy of deadpool is all about being "self aware" and "breaking the 4th wall", which is basically scraping the bottom of the barrel
Loved the DEADPOOL game. Loved his review. Enraged if there isn't a sequel of both.
Shift-Ctrl-F5 actually brings up the bookmarks list in Microsoft Word
The first couple achievements are pretty funny.
How optimistic that Yahtzee thought comic book movies would STOP making money
Zero Punctuation, the one medium that Deadpool can't interfere with, Because Yahtzee will put him to shame.
Lets just take a moment to appreciate that there is a comedy writer in this world intelligent and sophisticated enough to use the phrase "standard operating procedure" as a punchline.
Controls > Gameplay = Story > Muisc > Artstyle > Vioce Acting > Graphics
