Scuffed bit about Skylanders was they actually had some diamonds in the rough with their 3DS games. Instead of focusing on lame combat and puzzles whose solutions amounted to "own the proper toy". The 3DS games were Sonic-esque platformer, time attack racers with light beat 'em up elements. The fun bit was that not all levels suited every type of toy. You might think that the fliers would be OP but there were limitations to what they could do and the flight being more of a glide meant that tricky platforming while trying to go as fast as possible could easily result in over shooting targets. The variety of characters was a boon as they all had subtle variations in how they controlled due to size, speed and method of locomotion. So replaying levels over and over never really got old as there was always some new learning curve to account for. I stand by my assessment from back then that they were dumping all of their effort and money into the wrong games. The larger console games were never half as enjoyable in spite of the larger, more elaborate production.

honestly most of bo6 feels like the devs desperately wanting to do something that's not a cod game, unshackled by whatever vision activision has at least it's pretty good, had a lot of fun with the campaign, and i found the characters to be really fucking cool, but knowing that the 4 main cast of marshall/sev/felix/case are doomed to be one-note characters and warzone skins just saddens me, it's a shame that it's all trapped in cod.
5:00 There's something uniquely depressing about seeing high moon, beenox and raven all still in the CoD mines. Not really a massive fan of any of them but I've played and enjoyed games they made, seeing them all tied up like this is pretty sad. Then again knowing the turnover at these companies the vast majority of the people there won't have worked on the stuff I played
Something else I noticed about this game. There really wasn't much that felt like it was set in 1991. There's some talk about Saddam and Desert Storm. Some NIN songs. Some old CRT monitors. A Bill Clinton cameo. And that's about it. Everything else would fit perfectly today. Even the cars don't look like they're from the era.
I'm kinda thinking 90's was the time cars became, what they are today. Samey. Need to have those aerodynamics, gives more miles per unit of measurement.

IMO, "AAA sampler platter" is probably the best place for a game like CoD, especially if it pushes players to other, more involved SP experiences. Embrace being the first video game anyone can name by celebrating the wider medium.
The funniest part of the game is how the evil PMC/rogue cia unit are introduced; The bad guys don’t even get to fire first. There’s no shock twist that the shady cia black Ops unit who’ve come to help suddenly start Order 66-ing our ass. The main characters get the jump on them and start shooting before they get a chance to do anything, so you have US troops firing on other US troops with neither side communicating first. It would be really fucking awkward if they actually were sent to help but since they “aren’t with us” that immediately means they’re hostile. Marshall, Harrow and Case must suck at surprise parties.

Fun fact about BLOPS 6: Not only is it available on Game Pass (for like 10-12 dollars a month), but after finishing the campaign, I was able to not just cancel the Game Pass, but actually was able to get it *fully refunded* in the cancel subscription menu - something I've never seen before - despite playing the game over multiple days and not rushing it. I've effectively finished the entire Blops 6 campaign for free, completely legally - and honestly, for a $0 experience, it was really fun.

I remember a few years ago I was looking at the steam reviews for the original wolfenstien and noticed they all had 2 hours of playtime. 2 hours is the limit to how much time you can have in a game before steam won’t let you refund it so if you don’t die too often, you could probably beat it in time for a refund

Originally when the leaks for this game started happening in 2022, it was being referred to as Black Ops: Gulf War, but I guess they realized that would've been very misleading given that this game doesn't really have anything to do with the Gulf War at all aside from the Helldivers 2-esque mission Yahtzee mentioned and a subsequent siege on Saddam's palace to push forward the main plot. But they couldn't come up with a better subtitle so they just said "FUCK IT! Let's just call it Black Ops 6!"

Tbf, this game at least tried something new. It might not be a coherent experience, but it’s still better than 4th unoriginal Modern Warfare game, featuring John American shooting Vague International Threat #36. I think that even at its messiest, an attempt at something different is worth a thousand attempts at the same idea.

Black ops seemlying has the coolest potential since you save the world from shady underground plots with a small group. Though it seems like since black ops 3 they have ran out of ideas. Honestly I would prefer more modern times so that it is not just "hey remember this tacky pop culture reference."

What I will mention is the campaign's lead developer team is Raven Software. They've been working on CoD's multiplayer for about a decade and was promoted to taking over the Black Ops story from Treyarch starting with Cold War. Cold War and BO6 campaign is pretty much them protesting and turning the story into Singularity 2 that they never got to make. Activision...LET THEM MAKE THE DAMN SEQUEL!!!

Yep, Treyarch had to actually STEP IN during Cold War's development because tensions between Raven and Sledgehammer got pretty bad. Raven Software doesn't deserve the fate they have been given.
The reason it's like this is because the campaign is made by Raven Software. It's barely even a CoD, you're WAY MORE overpowered than you think. Go replay but use the adrenaline stims.

Been a hot minute since I played a CoD campaign, I was looking forward to taking advantage of the gamepass release and gunning through some crazy silly set pieces and corridors filled with Bad Guys(TM). I wasn't expecting dialogue choices, branching paths, or anything else that Yahtz touched on in his review. It was actually really fun - stupid, with a shallow story that didn't make sense or feel grounded in the slightest, but I felt transported back 15 years to simpler times.
A fancy hors-d'oeuvres buffet is the perfect analogy for this. A little unsatisfying bit of everything for everyone, but no one's gonna have the money for it and why would they make this when they can just eat their preferred meal at home, unless they're rich.

Yeah exactly. I don't understands Yahtz sometimes. Jack of all trades doesn't have to always be a bad thing, I've really enjoyed the variety Raven software tried to create with this campaign. They have some cool gameplay ideas despite being forced to work in call of duty mines
It's the best campaign since Call of Duty 4, which is faint praise, but still, worth checking out if you have 12 bucks for gamepass and an extra large hard drive.
I hate these stupid comments. Zombies, Campaign, Online PVP, Online Massive PVP, etc. You act like these games don't have massive modes that require hordes of people to develop.
@@TheStormbringer8751 Don't forget about all the people who are asset artists, level designers, the ones that worked on the game engine, etc. There is so much artwork in the game, there are so many calling cards (that most people will never unlock if they even see them but there's a ton of them that are there). Watching the credits, you can kind of see which studios did what but I think it's high time Raven gets to be fully let off the leash since their last couple campaigns were actually pretty fun and I'd like to see them tackle something unique/not-explicitly-COD
I suddenly feel sad for all the devs that work on this game. They clearly want Call of Duty to to take a break from the yearly release schedule. Hell, I would like half of the studios that worked on this to do SOMETHING ELSE for their next project so that they can at least take a mental break. Let Beenox, High Moon and Raven make make games that are considerably different.
You know what? I'm actually sold on this game. That all sounds quite interesting, especially as someone who's enjoying Battlefield Hardline's janky attempts to fit an actual police game into a spunkgargleweewee engine.

At least fornite can be played for years on end, after the first year of any CoD game the playerbase tanks. I played the campaign (for free on Game Pass, of course) and I can say for certain that it was both not very good and better than the Modern Warfare remakes. Probably worth it if you can play it for under $15. Also, that open world desert level was probably the worst. It took me like two hours and the 4 different types of objectives were just repeated 3 times. Also, the baddies kept clipping through the car when I tried to run them over.
Looking forward to the first full-length Every Fully Ramblomatic in a couple of months. Can we get the few 2023 FRs tacked onto the front of it as well plz?
First couple Levels sounds like the normal Infinity Ward slop, the open world part sounds like Sledgehammer last "game" Raven Software's Singularity sounds kind of like the lab level Yahtzee is on to something..
It *almost* feels self aware, and to a degree I'm sure it is, but between all the different developers and the total sincerity it handles its narrative I think at best a couple of devs were able to convince the suits to go along with their more outlandish ideas.
I was hoping for a stealth indie review. The last time he did that for disco elysium it was one of the best game ive ever played. and well theres a recently released indie game that would have catered to the sea faring, detective loving giant seaturtle that makes these reviews perfectly.

4:00 LOL! That's kind of how Cold War ended. You're in the middle of the final mission, blow up some non descript AA guns and suddenly the game is over. So random and unsatisfying. I hadn't actually played a CoD game since the original MW3 but CW (which I got free with my GPU) was so disappointing due to the lack of spectacle except for this cool moment at the beginning where you're chasing a plane. Otherwise it was such a dull experience and was too short to tell its story properly.
I'm guessing the cliffhanger is to set up the story to be continued during seasonal updates, perhaps in Warzone (battle royale). This is a thing previous recent CODs did, was that every season there would be a brief cutscene to introduce some new big bad, who existed only to sell their skin in the battle pass. A single cutscene, a purchasable skin, and maybe some 2 week live event in Warzone are not satisfying ways to conclude any story.

from what I've played it's quite decent, marginally better than anything the rebooted Modern Warfare series has to offer but that's a low bar. there are sections i just outright disliked like the open-world mission that was mentioned by Yahtzee

Black Ops 5 was just called Cold War. It was set in the 80s and had some raytraced shadows, which they weirdly haven't brought back

I remember a few years ago I was looking at the steam reviews for the original wolfenstien and noticed they all had 2 hours of playtime. 2 hours is the limit to how much time you can have in a game before steam won’t let you refund it so if you don’t die too often, you could probably beat it in time for a refund

Not exactly, because Resident Evil 6 was motivated by desperation while this feels more like the devs were just bored and wanted to get experience for different stuff in their resume. It's competent in a way that RE6 was very much not.

Originally when the leaks for this game started happening in 2022, it was being referred to as Black Ops: Gulf War, but I guess they realized that would've been very misleading given that this game doesn't really have anything to do with the Gulf War at all aside from the Helldivers 2-esque mission Yahtzee mentioned and a subsequent siege on Saddam's palace to push forward the main plot. But they couldn't come up with a better subtitle so they just said "FUCK IT! Let's just call it Black Ops 6!"

The campaign was fun! I actually hope the studio responsible for it get to work on their own game if possible. Stealth missions, optional objectives, the mind bending portions - all great!

Black ops seemlying has the coolest potential since you save the world from shady underground plots with a small group. Though it seems like since black ops 3 they have ran out of ideas. Honestly I would prefer more modern times so that it is not just "hey remember this tacky pop culture reference."

What I will mention is the campaign's lead developer team is Raven Software. They've been working on CoD's multiplayer for about a decade and was promoted to taking over the Black Ops story from Treyarch starting with Cold War. Cold War and BO6 campaign is pretty much them protesting and turning the story into Singularity 2 that they never got to make. Activision...LET THEM MAKE THE DAMN SEQUEL!!!

Been a hot minute since I played a CoD campaign, I was looking forward to taking advantage of the gamepass release and gunning through some crazy silly set pieces and corridors filled with Bad Guys(TM).
I wasn't expecting dialogue choices, branching paths, or anything else that Yahtz touched on in his review. It was actually really fun - stupid, with a shallow story that didn't make sense or feel grounded in the slightest, but I felt transported back 15 years to simpler times.
Sold you on the pitch. But the execution is a different story.
A fancy hors-d'oeuvres buffet is the perfect analogy for this. A little unsatisfying bit of everything for everyone, but no one's gonna have the money for it and why would they make this when they can just eat their preferred meal at home, unless they're rich.

It's the best campaign since Call of Duty 4, which is faint praise, but still, worth checking out if you have 12 bucks for gamepass and an extra large hard drive.
Having that many developers work on a 5 hour campaign is like having a billionaire bankroll an elementary school nativity play

Don't forget about all the people who are asset artists, level designers, the ones that worked on the game engine, etc.
There is so much artwork in the game, there are so many calling cards (that most people will never unlock if they even see them but there's a ton of them that are there). Watching the credits, you can kind of see which studios did what but I think it's high time Raven gets to be fully let off the leash since their last couple campaigns were actually pretty fun and I'd like to see them tackle something unique/not-explicitly-COD

I suddenly feel sad for all the devs that work on this game. They clearly want Call of Duty to to take a break from the yearly release schedule. Hell, I would like half of the studios that worked on this to do SOMETHING ELSE for their next project so that they can at least take a mental break. Let Beenox, High Moon and Raven make make games that are considerably different.
You know what? I'm actually sold on this game. That all sounds quite interesting, especially as someone who's enjoying Battlefield Hardline's janky attempts to fit an actual police game into a spunkgargleweewee engine.

2:45 they actually first did a mission like this in Blops 3, where there's a straight up zombie mission. The stealth missions sound a whole lot like Battlefield 1's campaign that I just finished like a week ago

I played the campaign (for free on Game Pass, of course) and I can say for certain that it was both not very good and better than the Modern Warfare remakes. Probably worth it if you can play it for under $15. Also, that open world desert level was probably the worst. It took me like two hours and the 4 different types of objectives were just repeated 3 times. Also, the baddies kept clipping through the car when I tried to run them over.
I suppose I have to thank CoD's existence for causing fun, brilliant reviews like this one

First couple Levels sounds like the normal Infinity Ward slop, the open world part sounds like Sledgehammer last "game" Raven Software's Singularity sounds kind of like the lab level Yahtzee is on to something..

It *almost* feels self aware, and to a degree I'm sure it is, but between all the different developers and the total sincerity it handles its narrative I think at best a couple of devs were able to convince the suits to go along with their more outlandish ideas.

I was hoping for a stealth indie review. The last time he did that for disco elysium it was one of the best game ive ever played. and well theres a recently released indie game that would have catered to the sea faring, detective loving giant seaturtle that makes these reviews perfectly.
The lack of grapple hook after the Research Center really took away from the whole experience, and made me want a whole game based around it

4:00 LOL! That's kind of how Cold War ended. You're in the middle of the final mission, blow up some non descript AA guns and suddenly the game is over. So random and unsatisfying. I hadn't actually played a CoD game since the original MW3 but CW (which I got free with my GPU) was so disappointing due to the lack of spectacle except for this cool moment at the beginning where you're chasing a plane. Otherwise it was such a dull experience and was too short to tell its story properly.
I'm guessing the cliffhanger is to set up the story to be continued during seasonal updates, perhaps in Warzone (battle royale). This is a thing previous recent CODs did, was that every season there would be a brief cutscene to introduce some new big bad, who existed only to sell their skin in the battle pass. A single cutscene, a purchasable skin, and maybe some 2 week live event in Warzone are not satisfying ways to conclude any story.
@@JoshuaPTFan All the more reason not to bother with CoD. If I play a CoD campaign it's to play a CoD campaign and I expect it to be a complete experience. It just sucks given how rare linear games are these days, there really is no choice anymore for those like me who prefer this type of game over overly long open world action RPG's.
I know Yahtz's intention is to stop us from playing it, but honestly the insantiy he's describing makes me wanna play it more. I've always enjoyed CoD campaigns but I skipped MWIII because I didnt hear good things about it and I was going through a FPS burnout at that time. But I am quite curious about this one. Maybe I'll try it when the price is okay in G2A or something

from what I've played it's quite decent, marginally better than anything the rebooted Modern Warfare series has to offer but that's a low bar. there are sections i just outright disliked like the open-world mission that was mentioned by Yahtzee
