      @@mackielunkey2205 It's because Fantano's takes are often poorly thought out (see the Smile album review where he confuses intentional polyrhythms with "bad"/sloppy playing, Arcade Fire's Reflektor review where despite liking more than half the runtime of the record he gave it a 4/10 or the infamous MBDTF review where "gamechanging production" gets brought down four numbers because he "doesn't care about Kanye's personal life"), and he's not nearly as funny or eloquent as Yahtzee. He's also more condescending to people that like something. That also reminds me, Yahtzee doesn't give things scores which helps a lot too.

But there definitely are some militant fanboys up in arms around, and some did get enough upvotes to show up on the front page, like some nutter who thinks quoting positive reviews somehow invalidates any negative opinion about the game. Yahtzee tends to ruffle the feathers of people who love games he reviews except for the 5 or so positive reviews he's done, but the 1500 dislikes on this video is probably among the highest. Usually he only pisses off so many fanboys when he goes after Nintendo or Final Fantasy. lol

    • @ryanjones_rheios
      @ryanjones_rheios 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@rexnihilum7822 I read a review where someone was saying it was supposed to bring about an "Ego" death to enforce humanization and forgiveness. Ignoring, of course, that even in lieu of those things it doesn't mean the character didn't need to just be ended. Abby should have died and then Ellie should have offered herself or let the kid do it. Bam, hollow and pointless as the rest of the game, but at least cathartic. I know it was supposed to be about Ellie coming to "terms with not forgiving Joel before he was killed" but few players are going to agree to that journey, and trying to get us too isn't some literary work of art. Its just pretentious. The logical dissonance was always going to make us reject the message. (Ignoring that the message is stupid from the onset. Abby's dad would be breathing if he hadn't decided he could take a man who just marched through a small army, to prevent child murder, using a scalpel. Sure she's mad but after so many years she should really have learned to be accept her dad's part in all that.)
      Also, as much as I disliked Joel's death it wasn't really shocking, just contrived. It just drudged back memories of the Walking Dead tv show's Negan, another completely killable character that's kept alive via plot armor and contrivance, but at least they didn't try and squeeze out sympathy for him.

    When Caesars Legion from Fallout: New Vegas seems more functional than your "realistic" society, rewrite your damn game.
    The first year of a social collapse *might* be dominated by childish assholes, but then the organized, capable groups would kill them all and take over. The sudden need for every person capable of labor (in the economic sense) means the new societies would actaully be *more* egalitarian and considerate than our current society.
    Even for a total stranger with no skills, you'd still be able to join pretty much any society by fighting Clickers for them for a few years.

    • @sEaNoYeAh
      @sEaNoYeAh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      100% this. Throughout history we've seen that no matter how societies breakdown the natural human the tendency is to lean towards re-establishing peace and order. Even somewhere like Somalia with no government and rampant violence and corruption, or Syria during the war, or the Balkans, or any number of examples before modern history, people establish some sense of normalcy amidst the horror and the violence. TLoU's premise that everyone remains a violent selfish fearful thug is completely implausible. Especially in a world where nature is reclaiming the cities and agriculture seems eminently possible. Even the decidedly more apocalyptic, less intended as believable Mad Max Fury Road still had some semblance of order, society, culture, and disparate pockets of order.
      It's even more implausible in the TLoU2 when you consider that the player characters (and Joel) have certainly a far higher kill count than the vast majority of bandits you encounter (if not the highest of all game characters), and yet *even* these mass murderers experience moments regret, second thoughts, doubt in their actions. Run of the mill bandit goons just trying to survive to the next day will surely also consider giving peace a go, if it occurs to killing machines Joel and Ellie.
      The game is so insistent on superficially humanising its enemy fodder without giving them any actual humanity.

      @@sEaNoYeAh This is where I find the game's narrative falls flat. I could forgive the mass numbers of killers if the game wasn't trying to be realistic. Something like Fist of the North Star that has roving bands of killers is just meant to be a fun escapist power fantasy. Or Fallout, where the entertainment is finding the various colorful characters and the exotic places.
      TLOU tries to be realistic, but it does so with zero understanding of human behavior.

    I agree with Yahtzee that the ending is a little... unsatisfying. I'm not sure I'd agree that Ellie did anything super horrible over all the murder, but Joel certainly did, and watching him just get away with it was... strange. It almost felt like the game needed one final act to tie up all the loose ends, but it just didn't happen.

That motherfucker will cap you if so much as your toe is visible from the other side of the level. It doesn't matter if you're 200 yards away holding one of his allies captive, he'll make the shot without even taking a second to line it up. Creeping through a house? Better hope he doesn't randomly get the tiniest view of you through two windows and a door frame or there goes half your health!
    I liked what it did early on by giving you limited resources, but by about the halfway point, Stealth wasn't super necessary because I had plenty of ammo and supplies for molotovs and nail bombs (Yahtzee is right, the smoke bombs are worthless). Stealth only really mattered against armored enemies. Even against a horde of clickers, a few molotovs and a spray of the flamethrower was usually enough, which made the game much less tense.
    I also have to agree that some of these bandit groups seem unrealistically huge. Whole cities of these bastards seem to be everywhere, in which case you'd think it's because they're good at recruitment, but considering they seem to cap everyone on sight, I don't see how that's possible. It's the same issue I had with the bad guy group in Tomb Raider in that I don't see how with all this shit going on that they maintain such an enormous group.

Sometimes I wonder if Yahtzee reviews his own reviews before giving them out in a TH-cam video. His review of Dishonored I found to be his most unfair review of a game I've played so far. But he does kind of have to play a game and upload a review of it every week, so it doesn't seem like there's a lot of time for him to review his reviews.

    I get that Spec Ops: The Line and The Last of Us are similar in the sense that they're more or less cover shooters with grim storylines, but I'd say Spec Ops is an infinitely better game solely for the fact that the story isn't written as though the writers were unaware that the protagonist is a murderous psychopath. It's literally a deconstruction of shooter games -- in reality, the protagonist of a shooter would be an absolute monster. Spec Ops fucking nails it in that regard.
    Then there's the Last of Us, who COULD HAVE WENT THAT ROUTE. Really! They could have gone the Heart of Darkness route and have Joel descend a downward spiral of sociopathic darwinism, survivalism, and death. Either that, or
    *It's been more than a year, but just in case there's anyone left who gives a shit, spoiler alert.*
    Joel actually, you know, DEVELOPS as a fucking character and learns to finally cope with his loss -- and let Ellie go. That would have been a heartbreaking ending that at least made the character a little sympathetic. Instead, though, the game has him turn a fucking hospital into a charnel house and then has the gall to act like he's some kind of hero.
    Joel is a selfish, and evil fuck.

    • @PikachuLittle
      @PikachuLittle 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      NoiseMarines But Joel did develop as a character. He went from someone who was effectively emotionally dead to almost how he was before the apocalypse, all because he had finally found one thing that he cared about. You say Joel needed to learn how to cope with his loss, well Ellie was how he was coping with it. He's a man who has already lost everything once, and he sure as hell wasn't going to let it happen again. You see a monster slaughtering people and fucking over the world for selfish reasons, I see a father protecting his daughter. Was it the best decision for the world? No. Was it the best decision for Joel? Yes, because any other option would have left him so broken that he probably would have destroyed everything anyways

      "Was it the best option for the world? No. Was it the best decision for Joel? Yes."
      I agree! And that's why he's an evil piece of shit! He stabbed one of the last brain surgeons (if not *the* last brain surgeon) in the throat because he could never get over the death of his daughter. Nevermind that they were on the cusp of a cure -- he had literally no reason to kill that man! Same with the leader of the Fireflies, she is bleeding and helpless on the ground, and he murdered her. This isn't a story about how the good guy saved the day, its about how a man saved himself, no matter what the cost. Yes, his actions were terrible, and in the eyes of anyone else he would be considered a selfish, evil douche canoe. To basically everyone but himself, Ellie and his brother, Joel was the bad guy. And you know what? I liked that, it was a nice change of pace. Who cares if he was the bad guy? The point of the story was to follow his journey, and in his eyes he was doing what he needed to, even if that wasn't the best decision for the world.

We've gotten sick and tired of people growing selfless in video games, books, movies, and tv, and finally up and deciding to do the right thing and save the world or whatever. It's overworked to the point of cliche. This wasn't that. At all.
      It was a jaded man deciding to do what he thought was best. Why save a humanity that has dedicated itself to eating itself alive? Who would want to save that disgusting species over this innocent girl who is even willing to sacrifice herself without fully knowing what she'd be dying to save? Joel's had it with humanity and its disgusting excuse for "self-preservation" and, ironically enough, engages in the exact same thing to keep his heart and mind in one piece and to keep Ellie alive.

    I like how this game gets so many 10/10s and 9/10s without justification beyond "OMG teh feelz!"
    Here's the thing: TLoU isn't a bad game by any means. It's got excellent graphics and a decent story, but I can't understand why so many people think it's the "greatest game of the generation", or even the "greatest of all time."
    The story might be impressive and emotional to some people, but the actual game part of it is rather average. The are so many immersion-breaking factors in the game. Why do blind clickers seemingly have the ability to see me when I'm standing absolutely still and not moving at all? Why do clickers and other enemies literally ignore all my invincible, infinitely ammo'd friends (a problem in and of itself) in a fight and all go after Joel? Why can Sam yell "OMG A ZOMBIE!" and the runners don't come, but I step once towards them from 15 feet away and they all go apeshit? What's with the whole snowstorm section? They clearly say "I can barely see anything!" but have no qualms about shooting you from 20-30 feet away, even though you could easily be one of their buddies for all they knew. Why the hell are there so many bandits in literally every place you go?
    While I understand why all those things are in place, a lot of these are nitpicks, but do take away from immersion. That's a big no-no for a story driven game, which is why it's a valid criticism.
    But here's the main point - the gameplay is average. The TPS factor of it isn't all that impressive, the stealth and AI are flawed in many aspects, and there are too many pallet/ladder puzzles to be acceptable. The emotional impact does not matter if the game isn't fun to actually play. Otherwise, why shouldn't it just be a movie?

    • @BoostedMonkey05
      @BoostedMonkey05 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bandits are easily understandable given the conditions outside the safe zones. The ending is certainly what undermines Joel's character development as he must learn the meaning of self-sacrifice in order to create a better world for everyone by sacrificing the thing he wants the most: a daughter.

Anyway, I watched a walkthrough of it and I was hooked. This is way old but I gotta reply anyway...
      The whole “it could just be a movie” argument is kinda shit. The story is meh, but how it’s told is brilliant. Not only is the game about the relationship between Joel and Ellie, it’s between you and Ellie as you work with, talk with and fight with her building your relationship.
      Personally I think the gameplay is super fun and I’m addicted to the loop.
      Yea the puzzles are shit but I’m not much of a puzzle guy so don’t really care.
      You also said you understand why those immersion braking things are there, but the main point is it’s a video game. This sorta stuff happens in literally every game with npcs. Name one where it doesn’t... obviously the intent is to stop the gameplay from being frustrating by having an npc ruin everything and draw attention from zombies and people.
      Also the clickers can’t see you when you stand still, that’s like the first tactic for dealing with em..?

    -No real "survival" element, bullets are plenty and you're not striving for resources

    -Full of zombie related clichés (oh MAN is the real enemy, oh it just happens that THIS girl that you happened to run into by chance is the key to a cure, and because your daughter died it reminds you of her, not being an insensitive bastard but its been done a billion times before TLOU)

      tommapar88 You are SUPPOSED to feel like you don't have a choice in Spec Ops, that's the point. Remember the scene before the white phosphorous incident?
      Adams: We might not have a choice Walker.
      Lugo: There's ALWAYS a choice.
      Walker: No.... there's really not.
      The game is trying to both criticize other games in its genre for not providing clear context and choices, and criticize the player for putting up with that trend. The game, through dialogue and loading screens, INSISTS that the one and only choice that the player truly has is the decision to continue playing. The main writer even confirmed in an interview that putting down the controller and stopping is considered a canon ending. You, as the player, make the decision to move forward, despite clear and obvious evidence that things will only get worse.

      ***** I wasn't complaining about Spec Ops lack of choice in the story, I was complaining about it being a great story stuck in a generic third person shooter, with lack of choice of the gameplay kind, not in the story. And that's why I compared it to TLOU, because its a great story, with relatable characters and awesome presentation, but let's face it, gameplay wise it offers no innovation at all, and only two ways to do things: guns blazing or stealthily. And for the most parts they don't give you that choice (or it is an action sequence or a stealth one, much like in Spec Ops, but a little less forced)

    And he nicely sums up why the game's story isn't as good as people say. When the setting implies that humans who don't want to murder everyone else for fun are the exception rather than the rule, the story is doing something wrong.
    I also don't get why the Fireflies had to be given all those extra villainous moments. The audience is supposed to see Joel choosing Ellie over the rest of humanity as a bad thing but the Fireflies aren't given any real humanizing moments.

      @@usul573 Yes. Joel is deciding Ellie's life is more important that spreading immunity to the zombie spores to the rest of humanity. That is the intent behind the climax of the game.
      As for the Fireflies, they knock out Joel when he's resuscitating a nearly drowned Ellie. They move straight to dissecting Ellie after a few tests, which is a really dumb move since it would ruin the chance for further testing. What they were doing would destroy a cure rather than spread it. Rather than thank Joel they antagonize him for no reason, giving him no pay and throwing him out with no weapons to die, and most of them wanted to kill him. Ethan in particular is written as a jerk for no particularly good reason. That is without the details about how their attacks on army bases lead to them getting overrun by bandits and zombies. The Fireflies are supposed to be sympathetic villains but they are given moments of hostility that kill any sympathy for them because they just come off as a bunch of idiots who destroy everything they touch.
      As Yahtzee nicely put it, Naughty Dog isn't good at writing humanized villains.
      The sheer number of human enemies you run into implies that they want to kill you for fun. Almost everyone where you go you run into more marauders who want to kill Joel and Ellie for no particularly good reason. This is something that doesn't gel with the game's attempt to create a realistic zombie apocalypse where it goes to such pains to so living in a post apocalyptic world wouldn't be fun or glamorous. Except it also does what the post apocalyptic settings that don't try to ground themselves do, like Fallout and Fist of the North Star, and have the post apocalyptic world populated by humans will kill people one sight for reason other than because they feel like it.
      I really don't see what the big deal with cannibals is when almost everyone you run into the game tries to kill you for no good reason.

      @@dragonstormx I never saw it that way. Joel is not deciding Ellie's life is more important, more to Joel, the whole rest of the world can go to hell as long as he has his baby girl, which is also how TLOU1 starts. He's doing it for himself, not so much because he's decided her life is more important or anything. They knock out Joel because he is potentially dangerous and they don't know him and they view him as a threat. I never saw that the game implies they are trying to kill you for fun, it's to take everything you have so they can survive, including potentially eating you. You say the audience is supposed to see it as a bad thing, but no, the game makes no ultimate judgments, and some people supported Joel 100%, and many questioned how much the vaccine would help.

      @@usul573 Situations where the audience is supposed to not make judgements are intended to come off as morally grey but the case with Joel and the Fireflies leaving nobody worth sympathizing with. Joel decided the rest of the world can go to hell, so why should I give a damn about him? I didn't care when I heard he died in the sequel because felt he deserved it (I still saw killing a lead character like that as a dumb idea but I didn't care about Joel). I have seen people who don't side with him that instance. And I have I heard about people who think that given the game painting such a bleak picture of humanity that they think the rest of humanity deserves to die in which case the game is doing something wrong.
      The Fireflies don't bother trying to use reason, they resort to violence. That's all they do, they resort to violence at anyone they disagree with. These are the people who claim they would burn the world down and allow democracy to rise form the ashes. The game doesn't bother trying to explain how they are even going to distribute the immunity, because they are a bunch of idiots who can't. They game is trying to be clever by setting up a morally gray situation after you mow down so many human enemies, but know you face a bunch of villains trying to save the world. Except the Fireflies can't save the world, and the game does a terrible job humanizing them since they resolve everything with violence, on top which they are downright cruel.
      Joel is a selfish piece of trash and the Fireflies are complete idiots who are too dumb to think about the consequences of their actions. There is nobody worth rooting for in that conflict.
      People desperate to survive do not throw themselves at something that is mowing them down left and right, they run and hide to avoid being killed. As Yathzee pointed out the human enemies had no sense of self preservation. Likewise humans who are desperate to survive do not attack people on sight like we see in the game. This game doesn't understand human behavior and think a collapse of society turns everyone into a murderer. Crises don't cause humans to start killing each other en mass, resorting to violence like that goes against our basic survival instincts. In order to live, humans in a crisis focus more on banding together rather than killing things on sight. The idiots who act that way would die really fast and the people who survive would be the ones who focus on banding together and getting every able bodied person they can find. Despite its attempts, this post apocalyptic world isn't realistic.
      In any case the game doesn't bother humanizing the generic human enemies who attack you anyways. They are just disposable cannon fodder who exist to serve as enemies.

The immersion, the realism, the characterization, the storytelling, the presentation, all phenomenal. The gameplay is very good too IMO (even though some disagree), but I felt that it was tense, cinematic, and fit the story very well. Anything too over-the-top like something from Dead Rising wouldn't fit this game. Instead, the stealth, tactical strategic play, and the mature themes were very fitting to me. It also helps that the story was so good and the characters so realistic and likable, so the gameplay felt more purposeful. There wasn't anything innovative or groundbreaking with the gameplay, which is admittedly slightly disappointing, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I also thought multiplayer was surprisingly good, especially since I thought it would be another cheap, tacked on multi. But it was actually quite fun, reminded me a lot of Gears of War, just not as good. I give this game a 10/10.
    This game isn't perfect, of course. A 10/10 doesn't mean that, it means the game provided a good enough experience to that you feel that it is worthy of that status. There are some AI bugs I heard (personally didn't experience any), and the gameplay and the multi could have been better, but that wasn't but enough in any measure take away from the overall experience and immersion for me. And many feel the same way, and that's a testament to how powerful and effective the game's story and characters are.
    If you say that it's overrated compared to the many who say "it's the GOAT", then I get you. It's not the greatest, obviously. But is it the best of the year? Yes. One of the best of the generation? Yes. One of the greatest ever? Depends if you're talking Top 100 or Top 10. It's nowhere near top 10, but it's in my top 100, arguably top 50.
    You can say "Oh look at all these fanboys who say this game is perfect. What a bunch of idiots". But did you perhaps consider that it's THEIR opinion, and the experience was perfect to THEM. It may not have been for you, but it was for them.
    At the end of the day, like it or not, The Last of Us is still the most award winning game in history and one of the most universally acclaimed games of all time. Now whether that means anything to you or not is subjective, but hey, nowadays most things are opinions anyways.
    Cheers.

  • @whatthebeardoin3160
    @whatthebeardoin3160 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I did actually really like this game. I found the gameplay enjoyable and challenging enough on harder difficulty settings, in addition to the characters feeling incredibly human and relatable on multiple levels, even ones you only know for a short time. Joel is a well fleshed out protagonist, but ultimately makes bad choices, but very human ones you can understand without forgiving or condemning. Ellie feels like an actual kid, and the animations feel very natural and lifelike, which I really enjoy. There's good humor, good life, genuine sadness and darkness when necessary, and the ending is rather fitting as well, really brings home what kind of person Joel truly is; A Dad, who doesn't care about the world, he cares about his daughter, and that's excellent conveyance of character, especially in an industry who doesn't do half as much work. This review is older now, but I find the game still holds up. There is an element of fun to playing the game, and the dialogue is just nice to listen to. It's rare a game has genuinely thoughtful characters on a console release, especially on a game about zombies with cover-based shooting. But that's the thing I take from this... it all managed to work, and the fact we get so angry and act like people who liked it are somehow "overrating" something that put genuine heart and effort into a work makes me feel like we're becoming too cynical. Stop and enjoy the nice things once in awhile. It doesn't all have to be indie titles with pixel art and titles that make no sense, sometimes it can be an artful console experience with unassuming gameplay and a fantastic story.

      @NotAFakeName1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Cole Lansburry I was with you til the end. I will tell someone who claims this game is one of the best games ever made that they are overrating it. The gameplay is incredibly dull and boring, very linear and slow paced. It isn't scary, so it isn't survival horror, and it's too slow to provide good action. As a story, the pacing is bad for the first half, delivering a "serial" or "episodic" feeling, where characters waltz in for no reason because they immediately fuck off like they were the sidekick of the week. Admittedly, it does pick up in the latter half and become better paced and more interesting, but as a whole the story isn't so brilliant that it carries this game above the position of a 7 or 8 out of 10.

    • @NoNameC68
      @NoNameC68 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I disagree. I've had no issues with the pacing and I feel the story stands up to even some of the best movies out there. The plot isn't anything unique, but the way in which they told the story was incredibly well done. They made the story feel real. I like to compare the brilliant death scene of Sarah with that of Io in Clash of the Titans, because they skillfully mixed fiction and reality together into something that's quite convincing.
      A lot of people rag on the gameplay, and I'll admit that the gameplay itself would be mediocre without the story holding it up. But then again, I also find that people who dislike the game because of the gameplay also tend to be people who don't really care too much about the story in video games to begin with.
      It's all just my opinion but it explains why the game gets the praise that it does.

    • @NotAFakeName1
      @NotAFakeName1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Randomdeath41 Gaming'n'Stuff It's hard to say because it's so subjective. I mean, if we compare to film for a moment, let's talk about two of the greatest movies ever made going by critical consensus. Citizen Kane and 2001: A Space Oddyssey. Well, I've seen people complain about 2001s pacing being too slow, and claim the story in Citizen Kane is boring. To many people something like Chrono Trigger is one of the best games ever made. To me, it's average with just other Square Enix titles, much less all JRPGs or video games as a whole. A good game, just not one that's particularly brilliant.

    I have a theory that the game's popularity is due to it being enjoyed by a lot of people who don't play games an awful lot, as well as those who play games with most of their free time. This slightly more casual gamer now has something to talk about with their more 'hardcore' buddy. The mechanics are straight forward, no stamina management or stat building and the story is dark enough to be 'for grown ups'. Together this means the game has a broad appeal. Casuals like the 'playing a movie' angle and hardcore gamers like the fact that outsiders are taking their hobby seriously and will defend that bridge righteously =D

      I can absolutely not agree more. You hear people saying the TLoU 1 is one of the best games ever when it came out, but when a game like God of War(if you can’t tell by my username and profile pic I love that game) I didn’t hear anything about it when it first came out and why? Because it’s gameplay is meant for people who actually play games.
      I like Naughty Dog as a company that doesn’t try to milk as much money as possible like other companies like EA, Ubisoft, and Activision but Naughty Dog just make games with no stimulating gameplay, but stories that aren’t very offensive.
      But when TLoU 2 has the slightest bit of a nuanced story. The whole fucking balance is thrown out of whack.

For me that movie was the best movie ever, clearly a masterpiece work of art... except it wasn't. The days passed, and little by little the hype faded. I started thinking about the movie, its characters and motivations, the results of their actions, the plot holes, and all of a sudden it was not that flawless anymore. I'm glad there is someone on the internet who isn't sloppily kissing this game's bum. It's getting kind of old hearing everyone talk about how phenomenal this game is when in reality it's just really good. It's not a masterpiece by any means. I mean, it's not original, (Zombie apocalypse and all that. And don't talk to me about the fact that the virus is fungus-based, they're still zombies.) It doesn't have the best gameplay, (It's not terrible gameplay by any stretch of the imagination, but it doesn't do anything new.) and most characters are not particularly interesting.
    So while it's not bad, it doesn't deserve to get the GOTY award, especially not when you've got a game like Bioshock Infinite floating around. That game did EVERYTHING right, IMO. The gameplay is varied, fast paced, and fun. The story is superb, aided by the fact that the setting is so original and fascinating. The entire experience keeps you guessing and is far more imaginative. BI is far more creative, which I feel puts it above the cliche-ridden The Last of Us.
    (And seriously, who does the title "The Last of Us" refer to? The amount of living people in this game is crazy. And why are there such humungous bandit camps everywhere? You'd think the band of murderous psychopaths would be a little more exclusive.)

      Mia Cat Well, that depends. Do you care what tone the game has? Because if not, then I'd check out the Deadrising series (2 preferably). They're campy, colorful, and friggin hilarious. Ever see a man in a speedo with a colorful Halloween mask that spells "child molester" try and act serious and dramatic in a cutscene?
      Let's see... The TellTale Walkding Dead game is pretty phenomenal. If you value stories in games more than anything else then I'd definitely recommend all seasons of that game.
      If you're into ball-crushing realism that chews you up and spits you out and then steps on you with high heels, then that's a pretty disgusting fetish. But if you like really hard games, Day Z is the closest thing we've got to a realistic zombie apocalypse simulator. Be warned, everyone in that game WILL kill you on sight.
      Resident Evil 4 is technically a zombie game, I suppose. It's been called one of the greatest games of all time, and while I don't quite agree with that, it is a very good game. Especially when you get the infinite ammo tommy gun and go on a catharsis spree and get revenge on all the bloody pricks that annihilated you during your first run through the game.
      Red Dead Redemption has some DLC titled Undead Nightmare, which has got to be the greatest DLC pack I've ever downloaded. But that's a very opinionated sort of thing. It's got massive amounts of zombies, plenty of side quests and such, and everything else we all love about Red Dead. Plus, it's only like 10 bucks (if you have Red Dead Redemption already, of course).

    • @0HereGoesNothing
      @0HereGoesNothing 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Deadrising was fun but I disliked the time limits.. no one likes to be rushed. I need to play walking dead.. and may dable in resident evil 4. Day z just sounds like a thunderstorm of online players that are massive shits (I'm assuming it's like gta online but possibly worse).
      Undead nightmare was fun, infact red dead was awesome.
      But still even looking at these games they just... don't give me hardly any feels. I mean before then L4D was my fav just because it was SO fun.. The last of us is just like a film and I think that's why a lot of maybe hard core gamers are like humph.

      Last of Us was way too short to truly explore the good mechanics in it.
      It also didn't give you any kind of choice (I wasn't expecting it to be like a Walking Dead game with constant plot-deciding choices but something closer to a Bethesda style game would be awesome).
      Another thing that really sucked about the Last of Us is that you realise that simply sneaking past all the zombies without trying to kill them is always more effective than trying to stealthily take them out one by one or going Rambo on them. I wouldn't mind this so much, but sneaking past them without harming them was so easy that even on the hardest difficulty it didn't offer any reasonable challenge.

    I think Yahtzee's definition of the term "Murder" is rather loose; there's a world of difference between taking an innocent life unprovoked or strictly for your own benefit and killing the demonstrably homicidal sociopaths currently in the process of violently attacking a twelve year old girl.
    Granted, Joel's actions at the end of the game are selfish AT BEST, but if you're telling me that there is NOBODY on earth for whom you would even consider doing the same, even if only for a moment, then you are either full of shit or have gone your entire life without experiencing love.
    And Joel isn't a modern day human living in a country developed enough to have internet access; he isn't an American from 2016 who has never been in a life threatening situation, experienced real loss, or come face to face with genuine cruelty.
    Joel lives in the equivalent of a warzone, his species is going extinct and his first formative experience in the new world was his only child bleeding to death in his arms. It's a wonder that he's even still capable of empathy.

The gameplay is honestly terrible. The absurd amounts of human enemies you kill is absurd. I love the last of us, I also like zero punctuation, I like this video EVEN THOUGH it criticises the last of us. It was a funny video and it made valid points. Believe it or not but not all fans of the last of us can't take criticism. So whenever someone doesn't like something that shines a light on some of the last of us's flaws that doesn't mean they're just "fanboys" that can't take criticism. Look up a video called "Everything wrong with the Last of Us" it is a perfect example of a shit video that criticises the last of us and all of it's fans are paradoxically avoiding all criticism against the video and pinning it on butt hurt fan boys that they themselves hypocritically claim "can't take criticism".
    What I'm saying is although to some the last of us is bullet proof and beyond any legitimate criticism, and I'm not saying this is not a problem. But equally to some all criticism of the last of us is also bullet proof and beyond legitimate criticism. Some times arguments against some things are flawed themselves.
