The Knack was extremely underrated in the long term. They came out of the gate swinging with this song which was so popular that people got sick of them. The freshman album this was in was spectacular! There were numerous labels who tried to sign them initially. Unfortunately, the popularity of this song was ultimately the demise of them as it put them in the one hit wonder mindset. They had a resurgence in the 90's with it being a standout in the movie Reality Bites. This gave them momentum to put out a new album (Zoom) which in my eyes was their best. I had the honor of seeing them live and they sounded like their studio cuts. I was told that their first album was cut in one take! Unheard of! RIP Doug Fieger (lead singer)

I didn't know that about the one take, that's amazing. I think every song on that album is so solid and there are some really fine gems on there. They have a Buddy Holly cover as well which is great. I love the drumming on Your Number Or Your Name. It's just so tight and driving and perfect for the song. Lucinda is a killer cake on a slow Bo Diddley beat, and Maybe Tonight has one of the most beautiful bridges I have ever heard in that kind of music.

Damn , that song will never age. A true masterpiece , and the solo is so genious. Damn Sharona, what had you done to those guys?😂
All time classic and beloved song. The intro building is , so genious. First drums rythm, Bruce Gary does his thing, after the electric bass guitar goes into with a little electric guit glimpse on the edge chords , then riff and to the end that vocal pleasure. Love the song. Is a great paradigm of music building.

This song came out when I was a junior in high school and it is the perfect music for that adolescent age, it really is. There's no way you haven't heard this song before because it was so popular, Not only was it played at clubs and people danced to it, it was on the radio constantly and that album which is absolutely killer all the way through, Get The Knack, sold really well and it has been used in movies and commercials and just about everything you can imagine. And for being so hit-oriented and overplayed, it has what is truly a killer guitar solo in it.
Every song on that album is really amazing and they even do their own take on a Buddy Holly song. Each song is a gem in its own way. Good Girls Don't is what concludes the album and it's just this bouncy catchy pop rock thing, which includes harmonica in it as well, but they did have to make a radio friendly version because the album version had a few lines in it here and there which are absolutely nothing in today's world, but back then they had to do a radio friendly version. I think one of the lines is something like "and there's a teenage sadness that you know you can't erase, till she's sitting on your face!"
Oh yeah, and their frontman Doug died way too early. RIP.

When this was out we always would try to get it at the school dances. If we had the younger teachers or the older ones that just sat out in the hallway we could usually get it played at the dance. Any of the middle age teachers or the older teachers who listened to the words wouldn’t allow it.

Great reaction! Fun song. One of the most notable uses of the song in a movie was in the 1994 comedy "Reality Bites," where it was played during a scene where the characters dance around in a convenience store.
The song has also been used in commercials for products such as car insurance, beer, and electronics.
Additionally, "My Sharona" has been featured in TV shows like "The Simpsons," "The Office," and "Stranger Things."

  • @Bikebrh

This was the biggest hit from the year it came out, and was an excellent album. Unfortunately, they suffered a HUGE backlash from Deejays, music writers, and aging rock fans who essentially bullied them out of the business.
They thought that the album cover was disrespectful to the Beatles (The band was posed in an homage to the "Meet The Beatles" cover), and they were at the leading edge of the "skinny tie" New Wave movement just starting in California, and the old heads hated that too.
Sharona is Sharona Alperin, who was Doug Feiger's girlfriend at the time, she is now a successful real estate agent in Los Angeles. She has always said that one of the great things about the song is that now people know how to pronounce her name right.

  • @mayberrygary25
    @mayberrygary25 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

Sharona was Doug Fieger's (lead singer) girlfriend; she was on the 45rpm record cover. They lived together for a few years, then broke up. Sharona is/was a real estate agent in California and is still around. Doug sadly passed away from cancer about 8 years ago. (I'm told, Sharona came to visit him before he died). Most of the songs they played were written by Doug and the lead guitarist Berton Averre. They also played a lot of Buddy Holly and Beatles songs with their own slant to them. The lyrics to this song were "cleaned up" a bit.
They were THE band of the early 80s !!!!!
Trivia: Doug's brother was Dr. Kavorkian's lawyer.

This song came out in the late 70s, pre-dating MTV. I would guess this video was pre-recorded for a musical-variety show, a d then used on MTV as the video for the song. This song, along with another song of theirs, "Good Girls Don't", were suppose to be written as the view of a typical horny high school aged boy. "My Sharona" was popular enough in its dY that Weird Al Yankovic did a parody of it, "My Bologna"! There was another parody, "Ayatolla", done back then, too.
    Great reaction!

Fu*king excellent pick, girlfriend. That was one of the first records that I ever paid for with my own money. A friend and I caught a trolly into town to the record store in my hometown of Gatlinburg Tennessee. We had just graduated the Eighth Grade and were due to be Freshman in G.P.H.S. that fall. The place was in the Mountain Mall on the strip and was called The Rhythm Section. We must've played this album a thousand times. Still love these guys. I know Doug Feiger has passed. My bud passed, too. Still.. this sound is triggering lots of good memories. Teenage angst and lots of lifetime firsts. First real girl. First real kiss. Holding hands was still something special. I can't put into words just what this makes me feel.. So glad you picked it. Thanks for the super cool reaction. Shoutout from this old, longhaired, hippy dude in East Tennessee. Keep-a-Rocking. When My Sharona was released, The Knack's record company "groomed" them as "The next Beatles." Their subsequent follow-up albums didn't meet expectations, eventually leading to 1982 break-up. They reformed in 1986, but the original drummer died 2006 & lead singer 2010. FYI....Sharona was an actual person & was the model on the 45 single picture sleeve

I saw The Knack as the backing band for Robbie Krieger, guitarist for The Doors. Stevie Ray Vaughan opened the show. No one knew who he was at the time. It was 83 and SRV's first album hadn't been released yet. Sharona Alperin was only 17 years old when she met The Knack's 25 year old singer and guitarist Doug Fieger at the clothing store where she worked at the time. He fell in love with her immediately, and soon wrote “My Sharona” about her. Sadly, Doug Feiger died of cancer in 2010. They married different people. Sharona lives in LA and is a real estate agent.

The Album Cover for their first album was hilarious. It had that, 'I'm kinda a perv,' vibe to it. (On purpose of course)

You can google Sharona to see what she looks like, she was on the album cover. Sharona Alperin is a real person this singer was engaged to at one time.

Classic, fantastic song that unleashes the pigeon head-bob in all of us! Brit was doing the pigeon head-bob within 5 seconds! 😆
