  • First off, I want to apologize for the amount of times I say, “basically” and “you know” during this video where I attempt to elaborate on yesterday’s video I posted of my brief, unpleasant experiences with the security staff at Graceland. Hope this clarifies everything. Thanks for watching and stay safe.

I am a pretty new Elvis fan and I was privileged to go to Graceland last June and had a wonderful experience. Everyone was very nice and helpful. My tour guide was so fun and knowledgeable. I had a lot of questions and she seemed to love that. So sorry you didn't have a good experience. I agree with you on all the trophies, suits and history could take months to go thru to even get an inkling of how loved and talented this man was. I hope to go back again. I am blown away with his talent but more with his giving. What a person to admire. Even Paul McCartney, when he went thru Graceland said he had more trophies than all the rest of them put together. R.I.P Elvis 💕👑💕

Alot of the staff hate their jobs and care nothing about Elvis so it trickles down to us (The fans). Its a shame. Graceland needs to be ran COMPLETELY by fans. Could you imagine the fun that could be had there if so. Let the fans TCB!!!

I think you now have people who run "Elvis" who only see a means to a bottom line and don't understand Elvis, nor do they understand his relationship with his fans. If they understood any of that they would not belittle the customer/fan.

Elvis would turn in his grave and would be very angry by what’s going on...and it’s all about money now. Disgusting. 😔 Elvis was a very kind and generous person and if they cannot represent him...they must be fired immediately. It’s that simple. Elvis would. He would not have it. 😐 If I could contact the family (but I’m a nobody), I would do it myself but I don’t know how to contact them. 👑♥️

Hi Ed. I really enjoy your videos. I had a similar experience when I went about five years ago. I remember the staff barking at multiple groups of people, and being impatient with the elderly going down the stairs. I would compare it to basic training in the military. I did the tour with the audio, but I just kept my headphones off and tried to focus on admiring the short time in Graceland. It was a similar atmosphere at the guesthouse. I would recommend for fans to visit Graceland than go to Sun studios for a better, positive experience. I also would recommend the Studio B tour in Nashville, that was probably my favorite attraction during my Tennessee trip.

Hi Ed, my name is Gino from Montreal, Canada. I've been watching your videos for a while now and find you do a great job describing all of your Elvis collection. I sympathize with you Ed on your recent negative experience at the gates of Graceland. I also had a negative experience in 2017 at the same gate. I suggest that you reach out to Angie Marchese, Vice President of archives and exhibits at EPE. She's currently on LinkedIn and seems like a very nice person. The people who are running this exhibit need to be aware of the type of toxic staff they have at the gate. Just food for thought. Keep up the good work in keeping Elvis' legacy alive. Cheers, Gino

I have never been to Graceland yet and I Surely may not visit if you get disrespectful treatment. Maybe Memphis Tourism needs to know about how Graceland Staff is to the visitors. Priscilla needs to get rid of the bad and replace with Terrific and Helpful Staff, and Polite Staff.

Elvis would have hated this. This is Priscilla mismanaging Graceland, and Elvis`s legacy. They give her too much credit for keeping Elvis`s legacy alive. Vernon used to allow fans into Graceland when he was alive, and that practice continued after he died in 1979. It wasn`t an original idea of Priscilla to open Graceland to the fans. The only difference is that she came up with the idea to charge people for coming. She even redecorated Graceland from the 1977 look, back to the interior design it used to have when she was married to Elvis. The museum look is not what Graceland looked like when he died. She is a greedy woman, and she has not taken care of Elvis`s family. She threw Elvis`s cousin Billy Smith out of Graceland, and even fired him from his job at Graceland. Billy was there was Elvis died, and spent the last night Elvis was alive with him. He was very close to Elvis, and i`m sure Elvis would have wanted him to be taken care of by the estate. Im not surprised that she has hired shit people, on minimum wage that hates their job. It`s all about the buck.

Hello Ed I saw the Spa Guy video. The security was rude to the Spa Guy too. I think they see Elvis fans as a job, and not trained to be nice to Elvis fans. The security guard did not have to swear at the Spa guy, especially at the Candle light vigil. They should have been nicer and treat fans with more respect. They should have told them where it was ok to park at the candle light vigil. Because there were no signs to park anywhere. They should have been nicer to you too.

Your dead right man, Elvis would be absolutely pissed about them treating his fans like this,he used to go down to the gates and mingle and meet his adoring fans who he respected and knew because of them he was very wealthy so he would randomly repay them ... this is what E.P.E now days needs to address because everything you are saying is right.

Suppose have 1 heavy for every 1 to 3 security guards. They usually don't say a word. The others project we are here for you to help you, really care and sensitive to general public. What happened to the good ol Southern Charm in saying "Good Morning".
Contrast to 1998 me and my ex stayed and hour past closing with the awesome guard telling us all kinds of stories. Sorry you had to go through that.

I’ve loved Elvis since the 1960s, but I would never visit Graceland, as now it’s just a money making attraction, all built on the back of one of the most generous men whom ever existed. I don't see anything about these anniversaries that resembles Elvis or his legacy. Elvis was generous, humble, and grateful. He found more joy and pleasure in giving than receiving. Elvis music speaks for itself but the biggest miss of continuing his legacy is his generosity. There is obviously nobody involved with Graceland that was ever dirt poor to understand the joy of giving or the joy and happiness it brought Elvis. He'd be giving away anniversary jewelry and cars on milestones.

Hi Ed, Great video as always. We visited Memphis in 2018 and stayed at the guesthouse. We loved every minute of our time there. That said, when we visited Graceland, there were three security staff in the hallway by the stairs that looked totally disinterested. To work at such a place you should at least be approachable/civil to visitors. The exhibition centre across the street was superb and I ended up spending $300 in the entertainer exhibition shop, much to my wife’s amusement. I can recommend going into Memphis and in particular visiting Sun Records and Lansky’s. Though if you’re travelling from Lanskys to Sun get a cab, as its one hell of a long walk. The only negative from our trip was Beale Street. During the day it’s fine, but around 5pm a lot of homeless people were begging for money to the point of being aggressive and intimidating. It was at that point we decided to go back to the hotel.
We were planning on visiting next year, but COVID 19 has spoiled our plans.
Looking forward to your next video.
    Stay safe,
    Lee

Ed, it would be useful to have your comments shown to EPE. I would think your feelings are shared by countless others. Security staff who are not welcoming and stupid rules are not conducive to a happy and memorable experience. It's partly why I've not been to Graceland because of the dos and don'ts. Unfortunately Graceland is in the hands who don't think in Elvis' way. That's not to say fans should run riot, but be flexible and make a judgement when fans are taking a few photos or filming for their souvenirs.
I agree totally with you on their lacking communication. We have security working with us sometime and they seem to be real lame-brains.

  • @jmf2471

My experience at the complex was very similar with exception. The ticket staff was very pleasant as well as the guard by the exit rail outside. The women at the info counter in the Guesthouse and our van driver (Chris) very friendly along with the wait staff in the restaurants all very friendly. about the third of the staff looked bored and no people skills. That wouldn’t fly at Disneyworld for sure. They are competing with companies like that and figure if Disney can charge large fees, than we can and people will pay it. On the other hand, this is not a federally funded museum, it probably pays an exorbitant amount of money in insurance considering the value of the items. And some fans do try and bend the rules, jump fences, sneak into areas they shouldn’t & while some mean no harm, It is disrespectful. I’m sure some guards could tell stories from their perspective. I mean a guy just recently hoped the little fence and took photos of himself right over Elvis grave. That’s lack of respect. But an acknowledgment or a good morning reply should be standard and EPEshould take full responsibility in training their staff. And as much as Elvis didn’t like his guys being rude to fans, he also despised disrespect to his staff.

Ed, I have always had problems with Graceland etc., with the Name, Image, Likeness. Since we all know that Elvis and Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, etc. are all deceased, then the name, image, and likeness are out there in Public Domain. Even when the actor/actress or Singer/Dancer/Entertainer are alive, there is no ownership of a Name, Image, Likeness. And since we are all into the current state of affairs with our past history, then by making a deceased entertainer with the name, image, and/or likeness, that is just enslaving the former artist into a form of slavery all for profit and nothing at all. I personally think that the Name Image Likeness should be abolished. Because we can all take all the images off the internet without a charge. And we can use them in our own business, etc.. Graceland has always ever since they opened, has always been "UPPITY AND SNOOTY." Even back in 1985/86 the first and second time I visited there. The "Non Elvis Owned shops -those were the nicest people, but the ones who worked for and at Graceland were not the nicest and friendliest people to deal with. JUST MY THOUGHTS.

Graceland is now more about the money than about Elvis but like any business you have to entice people to use your services or frequent your business by being accommodating. A smile costs nothing and leaves a positive, lasting impression. I remember when all the employees seemed to love their jobs and talking about Elvis and his home. Not so much anymore!

There’s no excuse for being rude. Unfortunately it’s no longer about the fans. It’s only about money. I will also say that I think it comes from the top. The leadership obviously could not care any less if security and staff is respectful to the paying guest that visit Graceland.

I have a magazine about a British Elvis fan club tour to Graceland around 1979: It was for a David Frost TV special. He makes mention of the ’friendly’ security guards: probably the same people 😂 I wonder why you can't video. I remember when I was there 30 years ago they were concerned about flash photography especially with the clothing which was fair enough but I can't see the harm filming outside.

Good manners cost nothing! We all know how polite Elvis was so I'm sure he'd be disgusted by the guards attitudes.
Marty Lacker wasn't a Priscilla fan, below he answered an Elvis fan's question on his website, and it seems Marty was right about Priscilla. EPE's just want to bleed Elvis's fans dry 😳
    Marty's reply to a fan....
Regarding the wedding , I didn't want to see that wedding happen and neither did he. Five minutes before the ceremony he told me he didn't want to go thru with it and I told him it was too late unless he wanted to leave her at the alter - which would have resulted in her father suing him for breach of promise as he threatened to do if he didn't marry her.
I have always known that all Priscilla wanted was the name and money.
She's a cold hearted greedy, two faced bitch.
Needless to say, I wasn't thrilled to be standing there however I was honored that he asked me to be 'Best Man' and then added Joe months later at the urging of Parker and Priscilla.
    Marty
