Aloha. Sooooo enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing. Question: Once you fold into thirds and cut, what is the length of the strands? Also do you use all of one skirt to make the hip band?
Aloha! Thanks for sharing your culture and knowledge! My question now is... to add feathers to this and fancy it up more, how is that normally done?? Like the long rooster feathers for example. Glue feathers to the fringe?? Or does it get sewn somehow?
Glue is a no no. Sew. Some even use wire, but sew. I dunno how to do it personally tho. Some both glue and sow. But I guess as long as nobody can see the glue it’s fine...
moré (tahitian term) It's the inner bark of the hau (Hawaiian term) tree The fabric is just leftover scrap fabric. I try to keep the color of the fabric same or close to the color of the moré.

Thank for shared this video! I wonder if you have any other video showing how to start the hip band?
I have one that is not as thick. Can you please show me how to brush/comb it out to thicken it?
Can you show how to start it from beginning please.
Can you start one from beginning
Where did you order the grass skirt to cut?
Thank you for sharing but how do you add the feathers in the middle pls?
Where do you get your raffia
That’s moré. It’s hau, not raffia. I got it from Aloha Hula Supply
Do you know how to make the hau rosettes? Please
What type of material are you using for this? Can you buy at a craft store? Can you use Raffia? Thanks
i don't know if you ever got an answer, but this is raffia!
raffia is called more in Tahitian and hau in Hawaiian :) all the same thing!
Can you use the grass skirt instead of that?

please from where did you get the moré?
I think if you can't find moré you can use rafia. It just might be harder
What string did you use?
R Corn It's just leftover fabric of some sort. Usually an old bed sheet that we just cut up.
Awesome thanks
what kind of material did u use?
moré (tahitian term)
