I love that Mazda gave it standard AWD, and I really like the lighting upgrade, which makes it look even more upscale. That said, there are few more "air balls" for me. The updated bumper up front makes it look older than the 2021, IMO. The expanse of black plastic seem to date the vehicle. I also think Mazda could eliminate a few of the trims. Preferred and Turbo should be rolled into the Premium Plus, with the Carbon trim still being able to get the turbo since it also allows the beautiful red interior. Finally, your test drive proves why Mazda needs to ditch the 6 spd. It harms both performance and fuel economy of the base engine, and does not allow the turbo to shine. A 7 or 8 spd DCT would do wonders for the "zoom-zoom' brand. Mazda needs to seriously roll out a new gen. I hope they make a small RWD version based on their upcoming architecture.

They need to refresh the interior to be consistent with the current design language on other models. And I wonder why the driver-side mirror still doesn't have auto-dimming. They added it for the CX-30 this year.
yea but that's only on the top trim CX-30. Also if you look at the interior design language of the new CX-50, it looks fairly consistent to this except the infotainment looks further into the dash like on the CX-30.

Hello from the U.S! For a $1,200, I'd recommend going for the newest option because it will be that different in resale value unless you plan on keeping it for a really long time
@@CarConfections I do not sell the car I own until its life is completely over, and in Saudi Arabia we offer the same equipment without the standard four-wheel drive.
The lights on the previous years look better. The fronts with the long line running in front of and behind the circular light looks better and as he mentioned you get fog light in the older model. The rear lights look terrible the way they stick out, like the CR-V. The wheels are more ugly. The all silver looks way better. Mazda is simply following styling trends of other manufacturers as the general human psychology is they want to be like the rest of the herd (look the lights are more like what they look like on the BMWs! I want lights that look like that!) At least Mazda didn't introduce flat "cement" paint colors, both "cement" paint colors and black wheels (both ugly styling trends that for some reason people like) will be out of style in a couple years. Also, Mazda claims (not mentioned in this video) they improved the seats in the 2022 but from the looks of it and reports from people that had previous years and sat in a 2022 any changes were extremely subtle in these already mediocre seats (love this car, but go sit in a Volvo to see what well designed seats feel like.) The main benefit of the 2022 is the suspension tuning to be a bit less harsh while not sacrificing handling inching it a little closer (but still a little behind) the handling prowess of BMW/Audi/etc.
I am from Saudi Arabia. We have 2021 at a price that is $1,200 less than 2022 at the moment, with exactly the same equipment as the standard package that I want to buy. Do you advise me to pay for 22 or is it not worth it and save for 21 if there is no difference?
@@o2p2a35 It really comes down to whether you conisder $1,200 is (a) a small amount of money (b) a medium amount of money or (c) a large amount of money. :) $1,200 may be different to someone making $50K a year versus someone making $100K a year. Let's assume (b) a medium amount of money given your are buying around a $30K car. I would get the 2022 for $1,200 more mainly because they tuned the suspension to be a little less harsh without compromising handing. Essentially they made it a little closer to how a BMW or Audi drives where the handling is superb without being too harsh (although those brands still have an edge over Mazda, Mazda is getting pretty close.) The other changes would just be small bonuses (like slightly better seats.) Also if you were getting the trim level that has fenders the same color as the car, that is a pretty nice looking upgrade from 2021. But I'd say the slightly improved suspension tuning for a better ride is worth the $1,200 alone.
Mazda has a tendency to screw up redesigns, especially half-cycle ones. The lights on the previous version were much, much better. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I don’t like Mazda take away the fog lights I think it look cooler with it on so for me no Mazda CX-5 2022! I will go back 2021 models with fog lights or cx50 maybe 🤔
Do you know if you are able to add a digital speed number on the speed gauge customizations or if you’re confined to only having the typical lined speed gauge? If it is available, do you know if it varies by trim level?
The highest trims have a digital display on the windshield and digital cluster. I have the 22 Carbon Edition. It didn't come with it. Although, it is pretty loaded. My friend thought I paid at least 40k.
Please start reviewing base models, most of the ppl would lease or finance base models not premiums. Terrible vehicle, 2,5 makes a lot of noise, road noise, terrible MPG, 6 speed auto trans. small front seats, small driver space (reduce space between your food and gas pedal with brick pedal-this is serious safety issue) , front arm rest way behind incl. cup holders, ac controls are way down and unsafe to control the ac when you driving, side mirrors vibrate with 70 mph, if you have premium pack there is TWO fuel indicators next to each other lol, heated steering is only 1/4 of it, line keep assist doesn't work 90% of the time in the Citi or suburbans driving, terible on long drive, there is good things: great automated head lights (if equipped) automated wipers, heads up display (if I equipped) blin spot monitoring, ventilated front seats (if equipped) I wouldn't recommend this vehicle, for that money there is another better options on the market.
Well, hardly an upgrade to my 2019 CX5. The wheel design sux big time for me but one can just buy different ones. I'll wait for something more interesting.
Mazda cx5 for 2022 does not have wireless Apple CarPlay. You have to plug your lightning cable to car USB causing wear to your plug on your phone. Ever time you get into your car you have to plug in. So much for the advantage of having wireless charging. You still have to plug in. 2021 had wireless CarPlay but they had problems do they removed it in 2022. Instead of fixing the problem they went backwards and removed. Come on Mazda get with technology. This is disappointing. Please come up with a fix and do an update to the 2022’s so there is wireless CarPlay.
Yikes. This is supposed to be a “premium” brand? But no touch screen, no pano roof, no fully digital gauge cluster, and a small cabin for its class? I just did the research on the equivalent trim level of the 2022 Mazda CX-5, and that would be the turbo signature AWD, which starts at least $1000 MORE than my Tucson. I get WAY more value, such as better MPG because mine is a hybrid, I get equivalent horsepower (226hp) because I have two engines pushing out lots of torque (electric and gas), plus 10 year warranty, 3 years free maintenance, more tech and luxury features, such as a live camera view that turns on when I use my left or right turn signals, a button on my key fob that allows me to move my car forward or backward out of tight parking spots in case someone parks too close to my driver’s side door, more bold styling such as the LEDs that blend into the grille, the mustang-like LED brake lights and brake light bar. I even have an NFC key card that I can use to unlock/lock, and drive my car in case I don’t want to use my key fob. Plus tons of more features. What happened to the fog lights? I use those all the time after it rains in my area... serious fog.
Also, Mazda claims (not mentioned in this video) they improved the seats in the 2022 but from the looks of it and reports from people that had previous years and sat in a 2022 any changes were extremely subtle in these already mediocre seats (love this car, but go sit in a Volvo to see what well designed seats feel like.)
The main benefit of the 2022 is the suspension tuning to be a bit less harsh while not sacrificing handling inching it a little closer (but still a little behind) the handling prowess of BMW/Audi/etc.
Mazda needs to get rid of the prop rod I can’t stand it
Do you know if you are able to add a digital speed number on the speed gauge customizations or if you’re confined to only having the typical lined speed gauge? If it is available, do you know if it varies by trim level?
The highest trims have a digital display on the windshield and digital cluster. I have the 22 Carbon Edition. It didn't come with it. Although, it is pretty loaded. My friend thought I paid at least 40k.
@@victorandrade7940 Still loving the car so far? I’m about to trade in my 21 Sonata for one because my engine is already going at 6,000 miles 😒
Please could you tell the difference between 2022 and 2021 cx5 ?
That's basically the subject of this video 🤔
Lol she just reads the title but not watching the video..
Why is there a poodle on his lap?
Lexington KY?? REPRESENTTT
Hahaha yep!
Please come up with a fix and do an update to the 2022’s so there is wireless CarPlay.
no pano roof? 🤦🏾♂️
Upper trims have pano option. Not good in hot climates. In Arizona, vehicle gets way too hot.
What's up with this guy and his coupons?
The CX-5 screen impedes vision...one reason to not buy cx-5...bad location...
You wait till 2023
The wheel design is horrible.
As a cx5 owner, the infotainment is hot garbage. Hard pass on any mazda products until they give us a touchscreen.
Yikes. This is supposed to be a “premium” brand? But no touch screen, no pano roof, no fully digital gauge cluster, and a small cabin for its class? No thanks, I spent LESS on the 2022 redesigned Tucson Hybrid and it is very fast and nimble, has way more tech and luxurious features, and better warranty and value. Mazda needs to wake up and actually compete.
Hyundai? Better hope it doesn't catch on fire...lmao...
@@imdone1967 It won’t. I have a 2022. All of those issues have been addressed by now. I’m just glad I don’t have an outdated tiny interior and paid more for it,
@@eBikify lmao...
Is that why they just recalled almost 500k vehicles for that reason?
You can have your Hyundai , I'll stick with the 2nd highest reliability company, Mazda.
You can have all that unnecessary electronic crap....
@@eBikify and I payed 25k for my 2021 Mazda CX5 new , what did your Hyundai cost ya? 😆
@@imdone1967 Again. Did this happen to any very recent models, in the masses? No. I will repeat, the issue has been resolved. ALL brands have issues, even Toyota. Ppl just like to hate.
I paid $37500 for my 2022 Tucson hybrid limited AWD.
I feel bad for ppl who sleep on Hyundai’s latest vehicles. They’re killing it. Can’t get better for the money honestly.
No Smile Meter whatsoever 😕
I think they got rid of it. I haven’t seen it on several newer reviews….
Gas suuuuuuuucks
6 year old vehicle.. 😬
Not even considering a Mazda as long as they continue to put that terrible 6 speed in every model. That acceleration felt so 2010.
So what are you considering?
